Westerners often mistake Serbian / Slavic informal and often noisy banter as rudeness. I'm sure folks over in the economy were also having great time, in their own way. 😂
As a Serbian, I can confirm there have been instances of confusion. Last year I took my Brazilian husband to Serbia for the first time. At the airport, when a taxi driver asked us 35 eur to downtown Belgrade, my tone and speed of speech quickly took a not-so-agreeable turn and it was obvious to my husband I was arguing with the taxi driver. Another taxi driver eventually took us downtown for a more reasonable 20 eur. At some point, the taxi driver and I discussed street names and how they changed since my last visit. Once we exhausted the topic we both just stopped talking (rather abruptly now that I think about it, because there was nothing else left to say). In that moment of silence, my husband goes - is everything ok, did you argue again? Puzzled for a second by his question because I had already forgotten about the fact I argued at the airport, I ask him - what do you mean? And he says - what was it that you two argued about until a minute ago? It sounded like the argument you had at the airport. I chuckled and explained we just chatted about street names and everything was OK. This was our first trip to Serbia and he previously hadn't had the chance to hear my interactions in Serbian in various contexts to be able to tell the difference. 😅 It seems the cadence of a simple banter sometimes appears argumentative, although it is also true that we express agitation more readily. I don't know if they'd like to hear it, but I'd compare us to Spaniards and Italians. I haven't been to Portugal yet, but my husband has a few times and he says the Portuguese come across as rude to him. In Brazil, they are apparently much more happy-go-lucky, especially in hospitality. In Europe in general, hospitality is not always so... well... hospitable 😄
@DD we like the way it is .... No one said that they talk with passengers like with their friends, but Serbian ppl are in general way more polite and friendly then many others . When we speak between us - there is no barrier of coldness, or fake smiles (🤮) , or almost robotic behaviour like expected in some countries(🥴) ... Serbian ppl are ready to go way out of their way in order to help someone smt , ofc if they can - its friendliness, but its not rude anyhow About the way we talk - we are sometimes loud, we talk quick, emotional and we make a tons of jokes and noise. Like I said - that's the way we like it .
@DDtch6669 Dude was flying Business class. He never went to Economy - he told a story he allegedly heard from 'those who dared to go to Economy class'. Do you really think that people who were at Economy were sheeple without ability to object and all of them tolerated alleged rudeness for over 7 hours? Seriously? His remark after landing - that he's almost in Europe - should tell you all you need to know.
Nice to see you trying Air Serbia`s product again, this time in long haul. I hope you enjoyed some time in Belgrade as well, it`s worth visiting! Safe travels, greetings from Belgrade!
You must understand the Serbian culture. From the surface, they might appear cold and unfriendly but peel the onion and you will find a kind warm soul. I have been on the airline many times in both economy and business and cannot complain. Wonderful experience. Remember, the culture is honest and real. When they smile, they mean it!
There's no time to peel "someone's onions" - it's an airport. People paid to fly, and not to give someone therapy sessions. Professional behavior should be expected.
I've flown on AirSerbia multiple times long haul and in economy I have never had a bad experience, the crew were friendly and it was just an overall peaceful flight every single time with them.
I'm frequent flyer on AirSerbia (a bit of shame that you didn't show the livery of the plane) and they are growing to become the LOT of ex-yu region, good connectivity, almost 100 destinations, renewed fleet (no more laud atr72-200, as they got atr72-600s now) and the crew is absolutely amazing - 98% of the time. There are a few crew members that are usually grumpy, but that's what you get when you are expanding and hiring like crazy. Overall JU is in my opinion one of the best regional airlines, especially for me flying from Slovenia where we don't have a national carrier, they replaced Lufthansa as my go-to choice
@@milohrnic2023 air serbia rn is a BIG upgrade compared to JAT even in 2010,or even Air serbia 5 years ago New fleet, big network, good departure times and better crew

Hello Noel! It is nice seeing you fly on Air Serbia! In my opinion, they are pretty decent and they are growing each single day putting a lot of effort to improve. Many new routes have opened and many new planes joined its' fleet! Have a safe travel! :)
I'm not sure if you do all your own video editing/music stuff, but I just wanted to say that I love the addition of cooler music to your vids. It's not about geography- it's about arrogance. In their heads they think they are somehow better 🙄 ... But who cares .... Its just who they are ... BTW- Serbia is not even "Eastern Europe" , its Balkan and Balkan with three other peninsulas ( Italian and Iberian ) , we are all in South Europe...
I assume that Air Serbia is the reincarnation of JAT, the Yugoslavian airline,or part of it at least? It's claim to fame being the longest distance anyone's fallen to Earth 🌍 and survived without a parachute! It was over Czechoslovakia as I recall this happened.
yup Air Serbia is the exact same company as JAT, just different name :) Some of the older FA’s comes straight from the communist era, i’ve had a few of them 😅
I never had any issues with any cabin crew going from Canada to Serbia . Flew JAT , air Serbia , Lufthansa , air Canada , air transat etc . For me all airline crew are nice and respectful . I think air Serbia has the best food
I've flown Air Serbia many times. Never had an issue in economy. Best to pick the exit row. More leg room. I fly that route every other year. We have great pilots.
When most westerners say Europe they're really just thinking about Western Europe, like EU (but with addition of Albania and Georgia, who knows, and well, Greece). But I guess this is a similar debate to America vs USA. Undoubtedly Eastern and Western Europe are extremely different.
Bizarre!? AirSerbia crew is the top 5 crew worldwide. I used to travel 200 days per year (UA, Delta, Alaska Airlines, Swiss, Lufthansa, Turkish, Latam, AA, Quantas, Tahiti NUI…) and always had a great time with AirSerbia crew (economy class) ❤ last time I flew to NY with my dog (economy) and the crew was so sweet and supportive ❤️
Yes mate, very British except that he's taken his family over to the USA to live on a permanent basis so I think it fair to say that he's now become an expatriot? Shame really because that's caused me to change my regard for him now. I think it's horrible when people suddenly swap their allegencies.
I became an Air Serbia fan in September. They offer great Serbian wines on board. Even got my first Serbian language lessons on board “hvala!” Belgrade is under renovation. The weird thing about this is that the last 100 m to/from the terminal is going through a construction site. About dodgy taxis: no, the meter was on , and in a very fancy car. And +-20€ to city centre. At midnight.
Will you ever fly and review economy seats anymore? Majority of people don't fly first class. Be nice to see reviews that people would actually find helpful
In this case Noel had a look back in cattle class and reported back about the rude and harsh behaviour of cabin staff to economy passengers. Enough for us ordinary people to know that this is an airline to miss if at all possible.
I have flown with Air Serbia a few times on short haul flights within Europe. I find them to be quite ok. And transitting in Belgrade Airport is pleasant as well. Just be ware of the taxi drivers at the airport, as they are often a bunch of bandits. Air Serbia is certainly better than the old JAT that used to service belgrade Airport.
There'll be Air Serbia flight grate open in Chicago start in May 2023. I do round trip. I hope I can get connected flight to Air Serbia so I can go straight to Belgrade
A sign of how little this overseas Air Serbia route is used by anyone other than Serbians and Americans was the fact that the counter agent at JFK was puzzled with you having ESTA --- he apparently didn't even know what ESTA was. Serbians are not eligible for ESTA and need to have a consular visa to enter the U.S. Their Croatian, Slovene, and Hungarian neighbours ARE eligible for ESTA, though, and I would expect some of them to use an Air Serbia connection if the price was right, but apparently, not even they use it much.
@@cohen200, I know, and that's very strange, as Noel himself remarked in the video. There is no reason to demand a visa or equivalent when LEAVING the country, as the U.S. doesn't even have passport control on exit. Yet somehow they were demanding to know how the passenger had entered the country... But the point is, if they ask that at the Air Serbia counter to every non-American passenger who checks in, they should be totally familiar with ESTA, but somehow they weren't.
The only bizarre thing that I have noticed during the flight is that you would mix “Brandy” which is actually a moonshine with salad…. I must admit if I was one of the cabin crewmembers I would find that combination very odd and assume that alcoholism is behind it. How bizarre how bizarre
Why is it bizarre. To me it is more bizarre that you expect that somebody, who is trying this spirit for the first time would now a right combination. I also think it is even more bizarre that Serbians still roast a pig on a stick in 21 century when air-fryers are available 😉
My guess is that you needed to show your ESTA in case the aircraft needed to return to the US for some reason. Many years ago I had a flight Boston to Heathrow with Virgin. We were told the flight was not operating after we had boarded. We should have then gone through immigration again which would require the esta. We were actually wrongly shown back through to departures without going through immigration which caused issues when I next returned to the US....
@@007knick It wasn't too bad. Hey buddy, we can see you left the US (handed in the part of the immigration form you had to keep) and then left again the day after without handing in an immigration form.... How do you explain that? Well, Virgin managed to schedule a 747 pilot to fly my A340 back to the UK and then someone messed up and routed the passengers back into departures as if it was an internal flight. The interesting thing is as soon as I realised I was in the US without them knowing I hadn't left, I went directly to the border staff to let them know and they couldn't have cared less...
@@warrengibson7898 ESTA stands for 'Electronic System for Travel Authorization'. Citizens from nations including the United Kingdom need to apply for an ESTA before travelling the the USA. No ESTA = no entry. If you apply for an ESTA, it is valid for 5 years so for most of us from the UK who travel a lot this is really a trivial issue. Essentially, we need to prove we aren't a convicted criminal or terrorist. The check is to see if a (UK citizen) would be allowed back into the US if the plane needed to return. It really is nothing and for a UK citizen to be asked for their ESTA on departure from the US is a bit unusual.
I loved travelling with Air Serbia from LHR for work a couple of times out in Novi Sad! Glad I wasn't paying for it though as I remember it was a fair old chunk to fly with these guys even in Europe. It makes sense that the cabin crew is ex-Etihad as they still hold a minority stake in the airline with 80-odd percent being government owned - the new fleet being testament to Serbia's charge to be an EU member by 2025. Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade is also an interesting experience with a mini air museum in the departures terminal, your bags in the arrivals hall coming out the boot of a Fiat 500XL which are made in Kragujevac and still being the only airport i've travelled to where i've been on a plane during de-icing. Would love them to introduce more transatlantic routes not only JFK-BEG
Serbia will never be a member of the EU partially because 80% of Serbs is against and and partially because the EU and old enemies of Serbia won't let Serbia in. EU is toast, BRICS is the future.
What exactly was bizarre about your flight? You haven't shown us any of this alleged behaviour. Air Serbia is an incredible airline with the worlds best pilots. I've flown with them many times before and they have been nothing short of spectacular. Must be you!
'Back in Europe, well almost anyway, Eastern Europe at least'....nothing like telling all Eastern Europeans and the countries they come from, that they are not quite European, just Eastern European. Last time I checked you put a foot anywhere in Europe you are in it, or does your Europe only start at France, Germany, Italy and head West.
I liked when you were “ghetto” traveler , riding economy , but the more subscribers , the more business class trips you make and you are becoming like Nonstop Dan, and losing your edge. It would be so much fun if you could record you being shouted at in economy class. This is just more of the same that is already on RUclips.
Mere mortals like us don't have a zillion miles and, fly in economy. I agree with you and your assessment of Nonstop Dan, he's so full of it sometimes. At least Noel is more humble but, enough of featuring upgraded classes of service that most of us can't afford. We would like to make our own informed decisions when traveling cattle class.
They are all a bit samey - everyone shows you the toilet as if there's going to be something really different in there one day like an outside balcony! Noel repeats stuff loads and loads of times though so slow people like me can keep up (it's surely not lazy editing).
It should be "you can't deny that's a beautiful plane"....otherwise you are saying the plane isn't beautiful. There is no denying that I couldn't get this wrong unless I really didn't want to.
Type it with a colon and it's sort of fine. "You can't deny: 'That's not a beautiful plane.' " Good pickup, I didn't notice it. Multiple negatives that are supposed to cancel each other out but technically don't are quite common in spoken English. You won't never see me making that mistake.
Hi Noel, Regarding Terminal 1 at JFK this was actually the first of the "new" terminals built at JFK, it was launched in 1998, which isn't that long ago but it has aged horrendously. One of the worst features is security which is in a completely inadequate space that quickly gets brutally crowded and overwhelmed. Also, if your plane is a larger widebody parking at gates 1 to 3, does requires a tug to tow into the gate and this can often lead to epic delays as the ground experience at JFK is usually quite chaotic. But the days of the current Terminal 1 are numbered as it will be replaced by a new, much larger facility that will encompass the current Termninal 2 (which is the oldest terminal at JFK still in operation).
It looked like an excellent flight. The rude-sounding Economy crew might have been reacting to some rude passengers, which we know are more common nowadays.
My auntie was a air hostess in the 1970s for Jat airlines . She swapped shifts with another hostess . That plane exploded mid air . The air hostess aboard fell to earth in the tail of the plane and survived. I think my auntie must have had god watching over her that day
I enjoy when you pilot, but I enjoy seeing the different accomodations when you fly different airlines. I used to fly often, but no longer. I flew often between St Louis Mo & Ft Lauderdale, & when I lived in The Woodlands, I flew from George Busch on Contienental airlines on the small planes which only hold about 40 which I enjoyed. Flew to Aruba several times & on other vacations. My late hubby flew often & internationally & once worked outside of London for almost 3 weeks managing a supermarket remodel. I would not want to fly economy today on a crowded plane.
Ahhh, JFK. I worked for PanAm at the international terminal in the 80's. It was very clean all the time. Very different time back then. Most every airport and airline employees took their jobs seriously. Most every employee was friendly, helpful, and willing to smile. It was the norm. Even helping with asian flights luggage that used to be over a hundred pounds as PanAm was contracted for the ramp service with various asian airlines with no weight restrictions. The problem is with what NY has become as far as employees feeling they are inconvenienced by the travelers and the airports not holding a standard. The norm now is sterile service with an attitude. Jfk, Laguardia, and Newark are all the same, and it sucks. Never a pleasant airport experience. But let's face it, flying in, through and out of the US is just not fun. Flying middle east and south east Asia is an absolute joyous event.
A member of my family visited the US twice some years ago. He was warmly welcomed at his destination and made many friends during his time there. But the grim officiousness of the immigration officials who on one of the visits actually made him miss his domestic connection, determined him never to go there again. None of his relatives and friends ever want to go there either.
@@rais1953 Yeah, American airport officials like TSA and customs seem to hate their lives and hope to take it out on anyone they can. Wasn't always that way. We have a beautiful country with so much to see, but I don't know if the potential hassle is worth it anymore for foreigners. Hell, they are treating us citizens worse every year. The best treatment you get is by illegally crossing the border from Mexico. VIP treatment. So sad. Sorry they had to encounter problems. I apologize for my nation.

Modern air flight is wonderful but to be honest air flight has always been wondrous every step along the way. As a born and raised in New Yorker…..I love how the once mighty “gateway to the world” JFK can end up being such a cattle car dump, but it is, isn’t it. Wonder where all those billions and billions of dollars they spend on it have gone?
Ugh, I'm getting flashbacks on my trips through JFK this year - I got trapped there for nine hours as a flight continuously got delayed and delayed again - I would have left and gotten some nice food in that kind of time. It was absolutely chaos with delays and flight cancellations and people were starting to get stacked up at the gates as multiple departures collided. Not my favorite place.

Aeroflot does a decent product. Still does. Went in a B777-300 ER of theirs less than a month ago. For those curious, I have dear friends in Vladivostok, who are not to blame for the little war going on. Get used to the cuisine on offer, and all else is like any capable Western carrier.
I'm simply surprised that international flights are still on - wasn't there a big problem when Russia unilaterally took over planes owned by foreign leasing companies (ie literally stole them)?
It seems the cadence of a simple banter sometimes appears argumentative, although it is also true that we express agitation more readily.

@DD people who work on planes ??? what are you talking about ?
@DD we like the way it is ....
No one said that they talk with passengers like with their friends, but Serbian ppl are in general way more polite and friendly then many others . When we speak between us - there is no barrier of coldness, or fake smiles (🤮) , or almost robotic behaviour like expected in some countries(🥴) ... Serbian ppl are ready to go way out of their way in order to help someone smt , ofc if they can - its friendliness, but its not rude anyhow
About the way we talk - we are sometimes loud, we talk quick, emotional and we make a tons of jokes and noise.
Seriously? Noel, the best part of the video is to watch the majestic takeoff of the airplane. I highly recommend not speeding up that part.
Agreed. Speeding up the video and adding music is unusual for an Aviation channel.
Not true. Every time I fly, I see passengers from all over, specially Middle East and Asia?
@@cinoeye, most of which are not eligible for ESTA and also require a full consular visa.
@@goytabr But he wasn't entering the US; he was leaving.
That was odd, how international airport personnel doesn't even know what ESTA is. 🤔
The food looked really fresh!
@@alexbojanic7363 and in Rome they do it to(porchetta) ,so shut up!
That sounds like a nightmare, especially the US thinking you had done something wrong!
What does ESTA stand for?
@@warrengibson7898Electronic System for Travel Authorization
Flights to ORD start May 17. Tickets are already on sale. They want to commence one more TATL service later this year but its not sure which.
F the EU and their pseudo American corporate BULLDHIT I will be ashamed the day we sell out

I'd assume flying a stolen plane internationally wouldn't be aceptable except to the few countries so pally with Russia they wouldn't care?
@@KristopherNoronha Serbia is one of those. You could probably fly there from Belgrade.
@@rais1953 No. Aeroflot stopped all international services when the war started. Even to where they were still allowed to fly. Now they reinstated some international flights but they cant reach Serbia as they would need to fly over the EU aerospace to get here. The closest they go is IST.
@@miroslavmilosevic1040 After I wrote that I wondered about the route. Thanks for clarifying.
Air Serbia fly to Moscow and Sant Petersburg
10:22, thanks for the laugh lol. Once again a great flight review Noel :)
My pleasure!
