  • Simple fix for a Bosch dishwasher that runs but leaves water in tub basin

I have a different model Bosch, its drainage is laid out differently, but your video prompted me to really look closely down there. Lo and behold, the access piece was out of position and a small clump of string and hair was snagged in the gap. It was just enough to hang up the pump every time it tried to start up. I cleaned it out, snapped the access piece fully into place and it's working like a charm. Thank you!

Thank you for your help. The little white plastic impeller cover had fallen off. I had no idea what it was until I watched your video. Replaced it and the dishwasher worked again! Thank you. That (so far) seems to have saved us calling out an engineer or even buying a new machine!!

Short story this worked for me. Here is the long story... I looked at various websites and most indicated an inlet valve problem which I replaced but nothing. Did not have any error codes even after running a diagnostic. I was then thinking it was a circulation pump motor issue which is about $400 new and the headache of doing it myself. Was this close to buying another dishwasher yesterday but then I stumbled upon this video. I let the water run after disengaging the hose leading to the tub as in the video. But there was no debris running out. Maybe it just needed to be open. So happy that my beloved model is up and running....fingers crossed.

This worked for me! Our 5 year old dishwasher left standing water. We saw this video and we ended up vacuuming both the pipes and pulled solid gunk that was blocking the pipes! Thank you so much for this! 👍

Thank you. My impeller was clear, but I found a dish chip in water return. I was able to clear it and can now hear water draining properly under the sink. You just save me a ton of money.

My problem nor my washer were exactly like yours, yet similar enough. This video led me to the right area and I ended up being able to drain the line and fix the problem. I hope all these positive comments boost this video to the place it deserves. Many thanks! Time to fix was under an hour and I'm sure this is a common problem.

Thank you Craig Smith, and all the people who post fixes like this with clear video and commentary! My blockage seemed to be between the washer and the sink, but I couldn't haven't gotten there and tested it without your help!

Thank you for the video! My Bosch has been nothing but a pain in my butt after about a year after purchasing it. I’ve pain a “specialty” plumber twice who just said it was the screen which I replaced 2 times and still had the same issue and error code. Thank GOD for you awesome folks who shared your experience and saved me hundreds of dollars❤️❤️❤️

This video was comprehensive and very well done. You absolutely saved me a technician visit. There was definitely a clog in the plastic piece next to the hose you pointed out in your video. I wouldn’t have even known where to look for the drain hose it had it not been for this video. Thank you again for the great work in recording this for our use.

The piece of plastic that covers the check valve needs to be in to create suction to drain. Found an olive pit jamming the impeller. Still wouldn't drain till I figured that out. Great vid.

Tried this and it worked perfectly - found a shard of glass in the pipe after pumping it out and used needle nose pliers to grab it out. Ran the dishwasher again and it finally drains. Thanks so much.

I've followed yours and another youtube video and could get the problem fixed. Though I could not find any in the drain pipe but near the impeller I found a small hardened plastic piece, probably broken from the pressure cooker handle. Kudos! and Thanks! Appreciate your time for making such a video

Thank you so much for this informative video. My dishwasher problem wasn't exactly this problem but this video helped me to find it.
I just share my experience here. After doing what is explained in this video I removed the hose that is connected to the back of dishwasher and found out up to there is OK too. then I blow to that hose that is disconnected and found out it is clogged. The other side of the hose is connected to the sink drain pipe I disconnected that end too and cleaned the connection. Everything is working now.

Thank you for this posting, I had an intermittent problem my Bosch overflowing water on the floor which I couldn't find the reason. Seeing you popping the hose from the pump and finding the piece of glass encouraged me to try the same and behold a piece of a plate shot out into my bucked. Holding my breath but so far, it is looking good.

Thank you. I found a lemon seed and piece of chicken wish bone, very small but prevented the propeller from moving. My dish machine is 17 years old, I’m waiting for the new replacement to be delivered.

I think this is my next move - I checked the propeller the first time and it seemed slightly stuck till I got it to spin - it drained well through two cycles but the 3rd one I did this ol morning didn’t drain at the end of the cycle again. Thank you!

THANK you very much for the video! Don't forget to buy and replace the rubber seal that he showed. Although it looked OK - it might have shrunk already due to heat and years of use. I replaced mine - and now its like brand new again. Drains OK every time. The OEM rubber replacement part cost me less than $10 on eBay.

Great Video! I too found a piece of glass, but it had jammed the little pump impeller from turning under the cover that you described which sits under the filter screen. I only had to turn the impeller backwards to dislodge the glass and pull it out with tweezers. Up and running now.

Firstly thanks for this video. It let me fix mine without having to remove the unit.
    What I did:
    1. Set it on a cleaning cycle as per normal.
    2. When it fails to drain, switch off the washer but do not reset.
    3. Do NOT drain the water manually. You want to remove the screw and pull up the housing that covers the impeller.
    4. Manually turn the impeller with your hand. I turned it only enough to free the impeller
    5. Put back the housing and screw in
    6. Switch on the washer. It should continue the cycle from where it was - i.e. when it was trying to drain the water. In my case it managed to pump out the blockage.
I'd try that approach first, and if that fails, remove and do what's in the video.

IMPORTANT! The first thing you should do is try a hard start after you clean the filter. Press the start button for 5 seconds and you will hear the dishwasher drain. Bosch SilencePlus50 DBA. This fixed all my problems.

Thanks this was helpful and I will add a comment that may help someone else. I had good flow from the hose shown here but my blockage was from the hose from the machine to the sink drain. There was gunk stuck right at the fitting where mine narrowed down at the drain pipe connection so that it wasnt fully draining. Hope this helps

Mine doesn’t have the release trigger to activate the pump... I just hooked the shop vac up and shlurped all the water out along with som serious food boogers. Wife decided that the 9 yr old could load the dishwasher without supervision. Not good. Nothing scraped into the trash hence the boogers and the fibrous wet wipe chunks that the grinder didn’t get 100% shredded. Lesson learned. Yes I did make Mom empty the shop vac and clean the floor cause once I found out what the real cause was, I stopped being careful.

Removing the tube as instructed didn't work for me. But using the red "lever" to turn on and off the drain pump several times appears to have removed the drain pipe blockage between the dishwasher and the sink drain. Now the only question is: whose turn is it to load the dishwasher? Thanks for posting the video.
