There is no doubt about it. He was paid millions and essentially stole it without a ski mask and a gun. Clemson fans kept making excuses for him until they realized what sensible college football fans knew : he can't make big time throws. He just has a great frame and subpar mobility. He should retire or switch positions. But, his playing career is over because he didn't take the game seriously and wanted to bail the moment things got too tough.

Also as an osu fan, it is pretty hard to watch his play at fsu but, sad to say, a lot of the same mistakes he’s making now are the same ones he made all last year. It was fine at osu with a great running game, great o-line, and generally poor pac-12 defenses, but life after that was always gonna be much worse. I’ll always root for a beav but part of me thinks he should’ve just stuck it out in corvo where he could’ve been “the guy” while simultaneously not have to do too much

However, I guess to that point, he definitely did not have these early struggles when he first started at osu. He played pretty strongly all the way up till the UW and UO games actually, and he didn’t look terrible in those two games either. I think the overall situation at fsu is just worse than it was at osu, even if they technically have the better roster. He went from a small market, non-CFP contending, dark horse pac-12 team to a nationally-recognized team that was expected to dominate its conference and make the playoffs with ease.

He hasn't been able to seemingly adjust his game to the next level in college football. Not able to go up against or play just as good with the other top quarterbacks who were able to adjust their games to college level. That's just the harsh reality in any sport. It's a hard pill to swallow. By all means he can try to keep on improving at FSU, but bruh, he doesn't have that much time left if he wants to keep play in the NFL. Dumb statement by a video poster who knows nothing about football.
FYI - a college QB doesn't necessarily have to put up "big numbers" to get drafted in the NFL, AND they can come from ANY school - just ask Josh Allen. In order to get drafted in the NFL a QB needs to know how to make big plays, run an offense, and make things happen on the field. The perfect example of a QB who "made plays" but didn't really have big numbers is Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill was a great multi-position athlete who only played 2 seasons of QB in college, but had decent numbers and made things happen on the field. He went on to have an excellent NFL career and made a lot of money.

Fascinating story and video. As a Beaver fan I watched him pretty closely last year. He wasn't horrible he was ok sometimes pretty good but, he didn't handle pressure real well and I don't just mean pass rushing pressure. In our Washington game we were 8 and 2 coming into the game and he missed two or three really crucial passes early in the first quarter and we just couldn't recover Against the ultimate national champion runner up. They were open looks that he just didn't throw good balls on. The game was on national TV HerbStreit and Fowler were calling the game and I just kind of shrugged my shoulders like I don't get it. So honestly, I think he's just not that great with pressure(pass rush or mental) at this point I do think staying at Oregon State would have been way better for him. More time in a system that's way more friendly to him. It's very difficult to be a quarterback you need a lot of things in your favor but at this point he's not quite a good enough thrower mentally. I think he could be a serviceable quarterback in time but he needs a system that really fits him In an atmosphere with less pressure. Florida State was not the answer that's for sure.

If you would’ve watched that 2020 Clemson @ Notre Dame you would’ve thought he was gonna be a beast. One of the better regular season games of recent memory.

Feels like there are guys like this every single year. As a WVU fan, I remember watching J.T. Daniels. Kedon Slovis is another name I think of too.

Spencer Rattler got in his way because of his attitude, Caleb Williams pretty much pushed him out of Oklahoma, and finished at Carolina. That being said, I liked watching Spencer and with an attitude change and development he can definitely snag the starting job from Carr soon at the Saints. His athleticism, strong arm, Mahommes like style is intriguing. DJ is on his third team already and has started at all of them. He hasn’t made them better and anytime they’ve won it’s almost in spite of him. He’s 2nd string at worst but a game manager at best. I just haven’t seen enough for this kid to be a starting college QB.

Can you do a story on QB Diego Pavia NMSU/Vanderbilt. He gives me Johnny Football Manziel vibes, but without the off field drama. He just wins. Thank you!

FL State basically shows they have ZERO HEART after that snub out of the playoff last year.
They had so many opt out, and so many just have ZERO interest or intention anymore.
Basically... that one hit to their expectations KILLED that team... This shows a MASSIVE coaching problem. The KIDS should be taught better, led better, and able to bounce back better.

Why did he leave Oregon State?

The coaching staff left and a lot of other players. Also Oregon State didn’t have much of a plan when the pac 12 was collapsing

@ahhhttoooddgg9711 At this rate he will be lucky to get a call from a UFL team. He had great potential but now what does the future hold for him? Also, Dillon Gabriel went from UCF to OU and now at Oregon and the alleged experts are now saying he will be top QB prospect in 25. My guess Gabriel is will have a different outcome than DJ. Also, look at Max Johnson (son of Brad) and he got injured really bad in his frist start at UNC. Johnson went from LSU to A&M and now UNC. 3 QB's who have transfered three times and two look like they are done.

Difficult to feel bad for transfers in the Wild West if the portal/NIL era. Regulation needs to come very soon

FSU faced a Boston College team that has a better coach in O'Brien who built up their OL and DL. Can't win being dominated in the trenches.

Dj is overrated. dj made the classic blunder of “it’s better to be thought of as an idiot, then to prove that you are an idiot.”

I’m a Beavs fan. He should’ve stayed here. Even with the team being worse, he would’ve been a lifetime hero in Corvallis for staying when everyone left. His transfer to FSU was a loss for everyone involved.

I feel bad for DJU. Oregon State was left behind after the PAC-12 dissolution forcing him to find a third home. On top of that, Kyle and other receivers drop his passes that could have led to touchdowns and, both the O-line and D-lines are horrible. DJU is the dark side of realignment. For every Cam Ward, who is also on his third school (Incarnate Word - Washington State - Miami), there is a DJU.
