    Instead of corn starch, or corn flour, you can use arrowroot starch or tapioca starch in its place… I actually like it better with the arrowroot starch… I use vinegar for the preservative and glycerin instead of a lotion….

    I made this recipe about a year ago and made some models. I'm amazed at how easy it is to work with. Cook longer to get rid of moisture if you want less soft clay.

      Can I ask about how long it takes to dry? Is it less durable than air clay sold in craft stores?

      @@endrawandresetn1250 I'd say about a day but it depends on the thickness. I've only ever used Das clay and this one. This one is nice to work with however it can dry with cracks depending on what you're doing with it. All of the small things I've made dried smooth and perfect but the one large thing I made had cracking. Mind you I'm not an expert om clay. I'm new to it and could be doing something wrong. Hit or miss. I'd say it's the best homemade recipe.

      To clarify, are you talking about making the clay itself a different color prior to letting it dry? Or do you mean letting it dry and then painting it afterwards? For the first option, you’ll just want to mix in a little bit of food coloring while you’re making it. For the second option, yes acrylic paint should be fine to decorate it once it’s completely dry.

If you wanna store the clay, I suggest to substitute it with vinegar and store the clay in the refrigerator to prevent it from molding

      You could add any genuine essential oil like Lavender, Eucalyptus or Rosemary (a few drops per batch); also some people add lemon juice or vinegar to inhibit mold growth. Someone else used salt. There seems to be quite a few solutions available. The essential oils have to be real, natural ones, not synthetics.

    • @AriamaAhram
      @AriamaAhram Год назад +1

      @@Kayenne54 Lemon juice and vinegar are not preservatives. They have water in them, and water invites the growth of unwanted - anything. Salt; but has to be quite a lot, can inhibit rot but - the dough has to be dehydrated. Any form of the dough in a soft, damp state will be prone to rot, unless you have a legitimate preservative ingredient (like those used in the food and cosmetic industries)or A LOT of salt. Children’s Play-Doh uses salt, which is why the dough is notoriously salty, if you’ve ever played with it then accidentally touch your lips or mouth or something you then ate, and noticed it was salty-tasting.

    • @Kayenne54
      @Kayenne54 Год назад

      @@AriamaAhram Lemon juice and vinegar provide an environment which inhibits the growth. Essential oils, (most of them) are anti-fungal, antibacterial, anti-viral and antiseptic - at least the ones most commonly available like Lavender Essential Oil, Eucalyptus, and Lemon oil. Cinnamon and clove are strongly anti-bacterial; best to use in a diffuser, though Clove oil can be dabbed onto infected gums on adults - first aid until one can get to a dentist, some of whom still use Clove oil based products. Vinegar is used as a preservative in pickling, I think. Would depend on the strength of the vinegar how effective. Lemonade was originally made to help expel internal parasites, rather than as a soft drink as it now is. The bitter principle in the skins...Citric acid was originally produced from lemons and does in fact inhibit fungal growth...now arrived at by other means.

      Yeah thats true. the brand that I use in indonesia called FOX. Maybe you can find a similar wood glue/ PVa glue. But elmers should work too, because my glue is sometimes too thick so I have to add a little bit water. It's all about adjusting until you get the right clay consistency. Sometimes the air humidity also makes a difference. If you feel that the clay with elmers is too sticky you can add more cornstarch.

      I always used the clay up before it become bad, so I don't really know.. but if you use vinegar I suggest you to store the clay in the refrigerator

    Do you have to use natrium benzoat? I can’t say I’ve seen it here in uk

    • @angelcraftart9086

      It is a preservative to prevent the clay from molding. You can use vinegar and salt insread

  • @someone-fh4mt

    My clay has the perfect consistency but somehow it is way too soft to work with. It is impossible to make sculptures etc., what should I do to make it firmer? Should I add more cornflour?? 😢

    • @angelcraftart9086
      @angelcraftart9086  3 года назад +1

      Natrium benzoat is a preservative so the clay will not getting molds. Titanium dioxide is a white opaque colour. You can not use titanium dioxide, but the resault after the clay dries will be more translucent.

    • @angelcraftart9086
      @angelcraftart9086  3 года назад +2

      I think it will be strong enough.. but if you you want to have a 1.5 mm outcome you have to make it thicker because this clay shrink after it dries up to 20%

    I see further down in comments that you mention when dried, the material is still flexible? How would you successfully model, for example, a figurine of a horse with flying tail, and keep the mane or tail from losing its shape or form (drooping or slumping?), or even the neck? Could this mix be adjusted to be firmer without causing cracking?

    • @angelcraftart9086
      @angelcraftart9086  2 года назад +3

      It is not that flexible. Only on thinner parts and only so flexible that it will bend once you put a little force on it. Too much force will still break it
