Bruce being amazing, as always. First song I ever heard from them was Run To The Hills. It's the stories that hooked me in decades ago and Bruce just wrote another epic story. Love it.

Interesting view of Eddie, I'd always considered him to be the 'hero', even if that meant him suffering some contextual torture, madness, ancient Egyptian worship, etc, etc.
Steve Harris has always been one of the worlds greatest metal song writers and he has been ably assisted by Bruce Dickinson and the guys for so many years, producing the musical accompaniment to my life... thank you!

Dude, I'm glad you got all the imagery. I've always felt Eddie was the "great reset". I've always taken that to be Eddie's presence and purpose. The great watcher, warning us of what might happen if we don't change our ways, and now the world reached the end, and he hit the reset button.
Also, in the first scene where you stop to talk about the horsemen and their bikes, you missed that there was a crashed Ed Force One in the background. I wonder if it was a tease by Bruce as to what the next one will be since the last one was a 747 and the crashed plane was a 777. Can't wait for the tour for this album. It's gonna be epic.

Kind of surprised that OldSkuleNerd didn't make a reference to the movie Heavy Metal (1981), as this video would have fit in that movie without a ripple. Awesome video both the imagery and the song.
They even said in some interview that the video was supposed to be like an homage to that movie. Which is why they got some pros to make it.

I think at the end Eddie offers humanity another chance, offering the apple, and of course, humanity falls back into their same old usual ways.
There is a massive amount of Iron Maiden reference in the video if you pay attention to it, as the green roman numbers on the back of the car that Eddie is driving "DCLXVI" that is "666" some tombestone earlier in the video says "No Prayer for the dying", the corpse infront of the tombstone is from the album "The Final Frontier", the crashed airplane in the background that you paused at is Flight 666 from the Book of souls tour. and so on... there is A LOT of those references in the video.

The stage guy when the band was first starting made a paper mache head as a stage prop. He was named " The Head". Because of the prop guys major cockney accent, it came across as "Ed". Eddie was born.

This is a man who lived the 80's. Oh those heady days. Taking shortcut's to school through the woods and finding that 'hustler' or 'penthouse' lying torn and forgotten on the ground (it was never a Playboy...I guess they really did keep them for the 'articles''?). My initiation in to anatomy. And Maiden and Metallica and Megadeth and SOD was my initiation in to music that didn't suck.
For every 80's kid who had to beg their video store 'buddy' to loan them "Heavy Metal'....this music video is a love letter to us and all the old school kids who dreamed of a music video this cool....but MTV would never play it.

you mean "occult" Most bands use it as a way to shock the system... do I believe some may mean it? sure but personal religious choices are personal.... I don't want other people telling me what I can and Cannot put my faith in so I dont do it to others..... We all make our own personal choices... and we carry them into eternity right?

Dude, I was the same growing up in the 90s. Hiding my maiden stash etc, and I always went for records cos the cover was bigger hahaha. But definitely I prefer records over anything else. We didn't have a cd/ tape player in my house. We had records. And I love them more than anything.

Mmm I resemble your opening statement. I really dig this song. Strange as it seems the boys broke new ground on this. Bruce has a subdued crazy guy preaching on the corner thing going, and yeah the guitars are subtle but great. And oh yeah whoever made the video either watched the movie Heavy Metal a lot or helped make it. Oh yeah and great reaction even if you did give away your advanced age. And mine. Stop it damnit!

If you like the song itself, do yourself a favor, and get the actual audio of it to listen to. The audio mix on the video is atrocious thanks to the way videos get compressed. The actual audio has the vocals much more present, and not buried so deep in the mix.
Don't feel bad about dating yourself either. My first concert was Iron Maiden, on the Piece of Mind tour.
And the movie, Heavy Metal came out 2 years before that. Both were very influential during my formulative years. So this video is an amazing blending of the two for me.

Eddie for me represents the balance of life and society and he's the warning of what we will become should we destroy the balance. As we see in this video when the balance shifts too far he appears to set this right, but because Adam and Eve are pure that would upset the balance to the other side of the spectrum so he gives them their free will. Even tho he knows we will eventually be hit by the same corruption again we need to be left to make our own decisions.

Hatchet and sickle Eddie were the same one (Death), it's a reference to Killers as well as Dance of Death. You correctly identified Somewhere In Time and Powerslave Eddie, the last one is from Book of Souls where he's a tribal shaman of some kind.
