Great explanation and tuning!
I've read that in Germany, Kawasaki dealer does de-tune to A2 license (similar to LAMS, restricted to 35 kW ~45 bhp) if you don't have A1 yet, and then can return to factory 68 bhp once you present your A1 (works with Vulcan S, Z650, Z650RS, and some other 650cc bikes). I was thinking in other countries official dealers can do the same.
Dave did a flash tune on my 2019 Ninja 650 (non LAMS version) to suit my full Akropovic system (no Db killer). Together with the Cortana quick shifter he installed, the bike was completely transformed. Can’t recommend Dave more highly👍🏼😀👏🏼🏍.
Quality vid mate
kspp makes some velocity stacks, the stock are soft rubber and close up at high rpm, you can see the power dips at higher rpm because of them
Is this the same on the 2023 model as well?
Thanks for that. My 17 felt faster than my 22. I didn't know about that throttle restriction
Thinking Of buying the Kawasaki z650rs and while I am happy to keep it in lams mode for a year or till I am used to riding more and the bike i di like the idea that they can be un-lams rather easy. Will any shop doing the ecu flash refuse if i have not got my open licence yet or the sort of thing they will not ask me to prove? Don't reply to that question if any legal issues might pop up over it though :) I'm happy to wait till I can get the open licence but with time and work it's easier to just stay on the restricted licence and open up the bikes power.
Are the Z650's restricted at factory? On the Kawasaki site I see that it shows a badge for A2, though it can be a category A bike. I baught one after doing my DAS, but it feels slugish for what a 650 should be... But it could also be that I have never had a bike before and don't know how it should feel power wise.
Just upgraded my licence, with removing the throttle screw it dosent need mapping correct ?
How much NM do we gain when we suppress the throttle limiter screw ?
Love your vids mate. Do you get the customer to sign a waiver when doing the de-restriction?
What happens if you don’t tune it after derestricting it?
So I cant do this myself ? I would need the computer software ?
@dynobike1999, where are you located ???
Hey man, on 2:00 you needed to put a piece of paper behind the torx so the camera's len could zoom it properly. ✌️
Great video 👍 does removing the screw from the throttle body on its own do anything for the bike?
Came here to ask the same thing mate
Yes the bike will run ok, just not to it's full potential because there are restrictions in the software.
What would pulling the baffle out after it has been tuned, with the baffle in, do? Just if you wanted some more noise one day? Im guessing a little loss of power
Don't know for sure without testing. The rule thumb is tune for what you intend to run
Don't do this until you're on a full license people. If you hurt someone and they figure out you've done this when you're a crying mess down at the police station...you're going to be in serious trouble...
No one would ever know. It adds maybe 10% to the total performance. LAMS is nonsense anyways.
@Some Guy urrrrr most lams 650 bikes are 50hp or less - de restricted they make 80-100hp . That's alot more than 10%
Having a full licence won't save you because derestricting the bike makes it unregistrable and uninsurable in Australia. If you injure another party or property your insurance company will be well within their rights to dismiss your claim and leave you on your own to fight any case brought against you. To make it legal you need to have the modifications certified through your states appropriate body [RMS in NSW] then have it reregistered as a non-lams bike. it's a very expensive exercise and simply not woirth the effort as you could just buy a better bike and still save money.
@someguy5035 noone would ever know except the crash teams that would inspect the bike and check for limiters. Sure, you might get away with it, til you crash and suddenly your insurance is void and you're in prison for an assortment of crimes.
@@tdunster2011not true at all. You can register and insure it as derestricted if you’ve got a full license
can you take out just the throttle plate and not the ecu one?
That screw design is known as "security torx."
Does this work for the Kawasaki versys 650L as well?
Yes it does
So I called my local Dyno to book having this done, and they said nah throttle restriction is enough… they made it sound like it was a waste so I left it… I’m just worried about you mentioning it will affect low speed handling, what do you mean by that?
What he means is that valves open and close for a reason. If it's fully open when it should be, it adds power that you want. If it's fully open when it shouldn't be, it adds power that you don't want.
I thought the 650L was just the restrictor screw + an ECU thing you unplug under the seat? Whats dis about the tuning?
That's for pre-2020 models, it switches or unlocks the map in the ECU. 2020+ comes with only a single mapping and no plug.
versys 650 also has this restriction?
Yes
@@Dynobike1992 No! Versys 650 is just the screw
What’s a zid 650
Can this be done for the z650rs as well? I think the engine is the same.
Did you find something?
@@er6ndriver670 not yet
I need the answer for this as well.
@@aperlia6603Yes, most probably. Its the same engine. It also works on a Kawasaki Ninja 650, so z650rs wouldnt be different… (just advice, not 100% sure).
what about a LAMS z650rs?
It's the same bike, but without fairings
@@Dynobike1992 cheers mate. Ill probably start with the throttle restriction first to see what that does and then make a decision from there. Other option is to keep it Lams for resale.
@@jace7541 howd you go de restricting your rs??
@@xXNeoNashXx I haven't touched it yet.
I thought they had 2 ecu maps and you only had to remove a certain plug. Is that true?
Did you find out if this was true
@@BenDover-oc7vl I think he was referring to the pre 2017 models. You had to remove the plug and also the throttle stop screw.
@@moreorlesdone1497 I believe you are correct. A gentleman I met asked me to test ride his ER-6L with the plug removed/ shorted and the plate screw removed. This would have been in the pre 17’ gen I believe.
And yes, his bike did feel a little bit quicker than my ninja 650. But not by much with his low tyres and minted chain 😂
Either way what you don't realize is that it's running to EU compliance and is restricted in the secondary throttle plate. The improvement is good but nothing like our tune
cool but on the Kawasaki website an unrestricted bike should output 68cv/hp. Why is not the case? are you using American horsepower ?
Power to the rear wheel vs at the crank. Advertised HP is almost always at the crank. You lose 20 to 30 HP from the crank to the rear wheel generally.
No we measure power and torque at the rear wheel. Manufacturers figures are not.
They use them same security bolts in jail to attach our stainless steel mirrors ect 😊
poor old ninja engines won't last long if they spend much time above 6000/7000 rpm...shes designed for cruussiinngg
those engines are bullet proof they will take what you give them all day on the track !!
Japanese engines bulletproof
