Also saw a video on Moore Mafia on the dyno of a 2017 ninja 650 with the Power Commander and it was leaning it out too much.
Hey my friend I think you should change the throttle tube on that bike. As for the power commander five I suggest that you take a second look at the airflow box to see if it needs to be opened up more because when you install it was because of the change of the muffler system. I think you’ll find that this will help one of the things I did with my son was installed the power map commander five as well as a autotune on the bike what a difference a day makes. Though his bike was a Yamaha FZ07
Question, who offers the best and most reliable ECU flash for the z650? What exhaust is best for the bike for ideal sound? The on off jerk with the throttle, who makes that and where to buy it?
ECU flash is the way to go with these bikes, stock PC5 maps are shit, PC5 is limited in functionality and you wont know for sure if the map is right. ECU flashing costs the same and is much more bespoke.
@@joeyg29jgjg Unlimited flashes of bad maps is not very helpful, you still have to go take it to a tuner to get a decent flash, at which point you might aswell just put it on your ECU in the first place
@@AntaresSQ01 bad maps? The 2wdw Z650 maps are absolutely spot on. Did you have a bad experience with your Z650 2wdw map or are you just talking about something you have no experience with?
@@luisdetomaso2224 Nah i didn't have a 2wdw map for a Z650, I've definitely had a bunch of maps for my 2011 Ninja 650 though (same engine) and PC5 maps don't even compare to a proper tune. If you haven't gotten a proper ECU flash you should and you'd be able to tell the difference too. Don't get me wrong PC5 maps are a step up from stock but if stock is a 2 on a scale of 1-10, PC5s are a 5 at best, custom tunes being 8-10 depending on how good the tuner is. I've tuned vehicles myself too as part of my automotive engineering course and even an identical engine with identical intakes and exhaust requires different fuelling to be perfect. generic PC5 maps just simply can't do this. As i said, step in the right direction, but why get a 5 when you can get a 10 for the same price.
@@AntaresSQ01 Joe and I are not talking about PC5 maps. The 2wdw map is a total ECU flash. It fixes all of the tuning issues with the stock bike and sets up the fueling for your new exhaust. These maps are developed on a dyno using multiple customer bikes so they are well tested and proven. I think we are all in agreement here that the Power Controller is a waste of cash because it is only a fuel mixture bandaid and does not address all of the nuances that can be fixed by a proper ECU remapping
I seeee!!! So if you use a Power Commander, there's no point to flashing the ECU? You're basically keeping a "backup" of the default settings, so when you remove the Power Commander you basically rollback to "default"? But i was watching a big Ninja 650 tune video, where they first used Power Commander, but then flashed the ECU instead, and gained like 20 extra horsepower at the highest rev range, that they did NOT gain via Power Commander.. So whats the deal here?
@@BrielleHater1224 Of course... I was being facetious...I’ve built two dynos and tuned numerous bikes with Power Commanders, Fuel Pacs, Race Tuners, etc, etc, etc... fixing the snatchie off idle fueling is pretty straight forward, even without a dyno.... they just don’t understand how..
Hey mate. I ride a Hayabusa and also a z650, we did a tune and couple other things to my z650 2021 model and we manage to hit 79.7 HP. Unsure as to why a lot of people can't make the same power. Guess it all comes down to the person Dyno tuning it.
I did my Mod1 test on a Z650 and the on-off throttle was a pain during the low speed control! I ended up doing a death claw on the throttle to have fine enough control to just about keep it open whilst slipping the clutch. This is where carbed bikes win out.
Y'all should try a "throttle tamer" grip tube. Apparently they help smooth out the throttle feel for cable actuated bikes. Given that they aren't very expensive, I have always wondered if they make a noticeable difference.
Try TuneEcu freeware instead. Spend the money on Dyno time instead! Made wonders with my Moto Morini. Flashing is also reversible, just save the old mapping. Then you can put it back if you want to. PCV is overpriced, almost a hoax.
I have a 2020 ninja 650 abs krt with the same power commander but there still hasn't been an aftermarket tune from the dynojet website yet and I've had it since October of 2020 and still no map what are my options?
The snatchy low speed / low throttle opening response on my 400 is my only real complaint. I also tried a 2019 Ninja 650 and it was similar but felt worse because of the extra torque. My previous bikes, including a fuel-injected FZ6R (completely stock) and a carbureted SV650S (full exhaust, K&N, and jet kit) were both MUCH smoother in cracking the throttle open, using maintenance throttle, holding a stead speed, etc. I've been considering one of the two or three companies that will reflash the ECU. Trouble is it seems like a lot of trouble.
I got an ecu tune on my tenere 700 to get rid of the snatchy throttle there and it worked in the higher revs but not so much on the lower revs. From what I understand, removing the O2 sensor fixes that once its tuned. Perhaps it would be the same for you?
Huge bummer that it didn't do anything to fix the choppy on/off throttle transitions. I've got a 2019 CB300R that I love, but the 1st gear on/off throttle is annoying AF - way choppier than the throttle on my Honda 919 which I used to think was choppy, until the CB300R! ...Oh well, guess I just gotta live with it.

Well in basically every bike you're gonna need at least a new exhaust to get rid of the stock one as they tend to be very restricted from factory due to regulations. After that it's good to tune the bike because the new exhaust affects the air fuel ratio.
Why have you guys ignored the booster plug? There are reviews all over RUclips where guys have done videos of the results of installing the booster plug on Kawasakis triumphs and probably others I'm not familiar with. The booster plug appears to take care of exactly what you wanted. It takes care of that acceleration deceleration problem that you're describing on that Kawasaki 650 and it does it on the triumphs as well and it cost an amazing $159. Guys can put them on in roughly an hour and that's mostly because of just having to take things like the gas tank off and if you've got a Versys, certain pieces of fairing also. Why not give it a try on your channel?

Not gonna lie that "Keep watching Yamie Noob" at the end is annoying as hell.
Respectfully disagree
I got my 2020 ninja 650 flashed by Moore Mafia. (Check out their YT). The difference was amazing and all the downs they say here in this video are all taken care of. The bike runs so much smoother and has way more kick to it. Its also way cheaper to do the flash than buying the Power Commander. Also saw a video on Moore Mafia on the dyno of a 2017 ninja 650 with the Power Commander and it was leaning it out too much.
What was the turn around time?
@@dblackviper2k3 you ship your ecm to them and they usually ship it back within the same day of receiving it or the next
How much difference did it make for you im stuck with a 650 and trying to get more power
what aftermarket exhaust did you put when you did ecu flash? I just ordered a black widow GP Round 230mm.
Yes, but a reflash from Moore mafia is only 225 bucks what did that cost
He's the man!
Yeah I mean they talk like they did a legit flash. All they did was send a map to the pc
Question, who offers the best and most reliable ECU flash for the z650? What exhaust is best for the bike for ideal sound? The on off jerk with the throttle, who makes that and where to buy it?
I LOVE THE BIKE AND I LOVE YOUR VIDEO IS AWESOME I REALY ENJOYED IT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
ECU flash is the way to go with these bikes, stock PC5 maps are shit, PC5 is limited in functionality and you wont know for sure if the map is right. ECU flashing costs the same and is much more bespoke.
And as far as 2wdw ecu flashes go after the initial purchase you can get unlimited flashes
Going pretty hard with the electro bangers in the montage lmao
the bass in that song is tooooo strong xd
So the map doesn’t let you modify the fueling off idle? Maybe a dyno tune??...if not, waste of money
You can make custom maps on power commanders. You can adjust fuel at any point of (rpm, engine load). He just probably doesn't know how to do it.
Isn't the music a bit too loud and/or annoying ? Speech seems relatively silent as well ...
It almost felt like they were yelling over the music but i know the musics in edit lol
Hey mate. I ride a Hayabusa and also a z650, we did a tune and couple other things to my z650 2021 model and we manage to hit 79.7 HP. Unsure as to why a lot of people can't make the same power. Guess it all comes down to the person Dyno tuning it.
ECU flash Dennis? I'm in the market for such things...
The on off throttle is due to the deceleration fuel cut. Only way to correct it is with a ecu flash
I put a Gixxer 250 ecu on my Harley and now it makes 150hp
I did my Mod1 test on a Z650 and the on-off throttle was a pain during the low speed control! I ended up doing a death claw on the throttle to have fine enough control to just about keep it open whilst slipping the clutch. This is where carbed bikes win out.
What is a death claw?
It's been a month since the 1275 install and no videos on it :( nor the street scrambler! I was excited to see that stuff....
this is exactly why you FLASH THE ECU. because you remove the ENGINE BRAKING from the stock ECU that's what is the jerky throttle. its decel cut
Exactly. These dudes mean well, but are clueless about tuning. I just hope nobody watching thinks this is the best way to set up a modern bike
@@luisdetomaso2224 I'm thinking of an ECU flash - just no idea which is the most reputable place to get one...
@@xelnjare3945 I would recommend Two Wheel Dynoworks. Years of experience and great service!
Y'all should try a "throttle tamer" grip tube. Apparently they help smooth out the throttle feel for cable actuated bikes. Given that they aren't very expensive, I have always wondered if they make a noticeable difference.
Practise is best way to get rid of that. He's not riding as much as he says.
@@jerryaduvall exactly. Just twist slower and smoother. Throttle control basics.
Would this also work on a ninja 650?
Try TuneEcu freeware instead. Spend the money on Dyno time instead! Made wonders with my Moto Morini. Flashing is also reversible, just save the old mapping. Then you can put it back if you want to. PCV is overpriced, almost a hoax.
I have a 2020 ninja 650 abs krt with the same power commander but there still hasn't been an aftermarket tune from the dynojet website yet and I've had it since October of 2020 and still no map what are my options?
Use the 2019 maps...ECU and fuel injection system are the same
Did they actually do a legit flash? Or just send a fuel map to the pc and act like they flashed it?
The snatchy low speed / low throttle opening response on my 400 is my only real complaint. I also tried a 2019 Ninja 650 and it was similar but felt worse because of the extra torque.
My previous bikes, including a fuel-injected FZ6R (completely stock) and a carbureted SV650S (full exhaust, K&N, and jet kit) were both MUCH smoother in cracking the throttle open, using maintenance throttle, holding a stead speed, etc.
I've been considering one of the two or three companies that will reflash the ECU. Trouble is it seems like a lot of trouble.
Wait... when did you guys do the exhaust?
Custom map, sorted.
ive got a 1999 sv650s naked converted, and it is ridiculously hurky jerky with the throttle response (fkn whiplash the neck). the 650 2 cylinder class bikes seem to not like being smooth, fun as fuck though
Wouldn't the jerky throttle depend on the map that's uploaded? I only ask because I've seen some maps made for my bike that are supposed to modify exactly that.
Yes. I installed a piggy back ECU much like the Power Commander and the bike is a LOT smoother at low speeds. The throttle was jerky a bit stock but with an exhaust it was downright irritating. I bought the Power Commander before I saw this video and I was so bummed out because I didn't need more power I got the Power Commander to make the bike a lot smoother which according to the video the PC doesn't do that. Thankfully just 2 seconds after the ECU was installed I found the bike so much smoother. Night and day difference. There is a power gain but you will be hard pressed to tell the difference in power but the smoothness is very much there. Another thing changed drastically is the engine braking has reduced almost 60%. Earlier you let go of the throttle and the bike would act like you dropped anchor as the engine breaking for a 650cc was quite brutal.
The heavy engine breaking did mean I could extend the life of my brake pads but I am very glad the engine braking has reduced. An ECU flash will work just as well but I was worried that if any problem occurs I would be hard pressed to tell if the ECU flash is causing the issue. With a Power Commander you can easily disable it to get back to the stock ECU.
Will this help if i got an aftermarket exhaust and now my bike is running lean due to decreased backpressure?
Booster plug baby!
So which 650 or so bike gives you a good on/off throttle feeling?
What octane gas should I use after I install the power commander and exhaust? The manual calls for regular gas for the stock bike
Does the Ninja650 2021/2022 has the same throttle jerkiness and boring feel as the Z650??
The 2014 Vulcan 650 I rode had the same snappy on/off throttle. Hate that shit. The 2019 Versys 650 however, wasn't bad if I'm remembering correctly. Why Kawi why?
that fast and furious reference was gold!!!
Nike bike mate. Ride safe always. Can you help me to decide which is best, better naked. Sv650,z650,mt-07 Interms of ride comfort and fuel consumption.thanks and appreciate mate
Nice bike.sorry for the letter
Fun fact No one is first yammie is always first
For on/off throttle problems remove lambda sensor and block the AIS/PAIR system.
I can’t remember if you’ve done it to this bike already but would a sprocket change do anything to smooth it out?
It ain't a super sport it's more chill "sport" tourer also not sure what i did with mine but i did get the on off throttle on my ninja 650 to be much smoother no jerkiness than whatever is going on with that z650?
It’s the same with the 650 too..for some reason they made their 650 so jerky for some reason
@@NinjaPleaseProduct that's just the engine almost all the 650 engines are like that. For a buttery smooth engine you would go for the zx-6r or any inline 4 but you sacrifice seating comfort
Throttle jerk on these 650 engines suck. Z650, Ninja 650, Ninja 650R, ER-6n. Mechanical throttle cables, springs etc. Some folks claim they added afew "washers" to get the play out of the throttle slack at the bottom cable adjuster, nearest the clutch.
I feel the regular 650 does the same on and off the throttle in 1 gear
Good video
Simply install a block off plate to smooth out the throttle response.
Wouldn't a dyno tune do the same thing?
@yammie noob just installed V&H full exhaust on 06 Suzuki blvd c50 and bought Dynojet power commander V, is it necessary to install it? I've had mixed answers.... thanks for video any opinions greatly appreciated
If you have a full system exhaust with an aftermarket air filter you should ideally use a Power Commander. However since its 2 months already I am guessing you went ahead and installed the ECU. How was your experience ?

@@jasonsanderson9385 Most new tyres need some time to settle in. At least a 100 miles. I haven't personally heard of these tyres though I believe they are meant for cruisers so can't tell you if they are very good or not.
Just Curious- Is there a single bike out there that you guys would feel DIDN’T need to be changed from stock? Do any of the motorcycle companies “ get it right” from the factory? I’m guessing you guys don’t think so….
The Z650 now has hidden henti in it hahahah
Reflash for herky jerky throttle you know, right.

You need that herky jerky to climb up mountains
I luv z 650 its the epitome of Japanese engineering
Yeah that's just Fancy electronic equivalent of a jet kit for carbs.... also from dyno jet
The z650 and Ninja 650 have had that issue since 2011 if not longer.
It sucks that they haven't done anything about it in 10 YEARS!

Where to buying bro 😎?
Hey yam, when do you think would be the best age to get a sports bike?
Now
13
I want one right now man. How can I convince my parents? I've tried everything. I'm 15
honestly its not about age, its about your backround with bikes, get a sport bike (600cc+) after you had 1-2 bikes before it so you know whats giong on, throttle control etc. but after your begginer bikes go for a 600, a 1000 will be way to much.
Just get Gixxer 250
