@@walkerfharris what makes you think a sport bike power band and race bike ergonomics is good for a beginner who has never touched a bike? An r6 is basically a street legal track bike. I'm not saying no beginner can do it, but it makes it way harder to learn your fundamentals and younger riders tend to not have the best discipline.
H2 seems like the best choice for beginner. A little expensive for average customer but worth every penny.

As far as non-heritage bikes, 500-650 cc range is so much fun for so many reasons. They can be light and torquey as hell with a high compression 2cyl or surprisingly high-reving, fast and flickable as a 4 or 3 cylinder. They can be made into off-road, street, naked, sport, or whatever.
I love getting on my smaller bikes because they are just fun!
There's Almost no bikes in the 400-600 range anymore... though there's lots of bike in the 650 class

I just bought the CB-1000R Black edition at the end of 2021 and before that I had the CBR-650R and I honestly have zero complaints about the 650.... it does everything you ask it to and I'd highly recommend it to anyone absolutely awesome bike you got and it will serve you very well I can confirm. Also the CB-650R is an amazing 1st bike that you won't outgrow in 6 months

I bought the iron 1200 for my first bike almost two years ago and I still enjoy it. I do want to add a street glide or road glide to my collection mainly for interstate travel and comfort, but my 1200 is perfect for me to commute to work and weekend rides on country roads and such. I thought about a street bike, but I feel comfortable riding slow and loud. Time to time, I'll ride a little adventurous dangerously and get it a little pass 70 mph baby! Yes sir I will
My friend had a cbr650f and i had a GSX650F (my first bike) they are both great! acceleration and top speed we’re practically the same but it was great since we had kinda the same bike except the Suzuki being heavier. I totally agree that the inline 4 made it easy at low rpm and as you progress you start to use higher rpm power
Bought a 2002 SV650s last summer as my first motorcycle. I love the low end torque and the riding position. Perfect bike for myself. It is carburetored but haven't had any issues with it other than losing some power on high altitude mountain twisties.
I have one too. I love it. Wish I had EFI though.
I got an 05 last summer. Not sure how different the FI compares to carburation but it's been a fun bike.

Great choice as beginner bike. This was my first bike when I started riding in 2008…a 2002 SV650S. Enjoy this gem 💎. It does everything right and it’s not overwhelming for a new rider imo.
Just so people know if you want an RS660 but only have an A2 license they sell an A2 version with a 94HP engine rather than the 100HP engine. This way you can legally have it restricted. If you live in the UK / EU just ask your local Aprilia dealer and they will get one shipped out to you for no extra cost. It will be restricted already from the factory and with most other bikes you have to pay to have it restricted with a kit afterwards.

You guys have restrictions for power? I’m about to take my MSF course in America to waiver my DMV test and afterwards I could immediately hop onto a liter bike if I wanted to. Obviously I won’t I’ll most likely get a Ninja 400 lol.

It's annoying but sure is a great system to have. I'll be getting my first bike now and if hadn't lived in the EU, I'm pretty sure I would've gotten something a bit too powerful. I will still be getting the most powerful bike I can get, but atleast it's a CBR650R and not an R6.😅
I started on an Cbr600rr last year. I put around 6,000 miles on it in one season & fell in love. I was able to get away with starting on a super sport bc I have self control & you are really only breaking the law if you are revving the hell out of the thing. I’m so glad I didn’t settle for a v twin or a Cbr 650r because the fully faired in-line 4 has been something I have always wanted. I personally wouldn’t say settle for something you don’t 100% want. I think as long as you have self control than you can easily get away with starting on a Cbr 600rr. I can’t say the same about the other 600cc class bikes though bc I haven’t ridden them. I hopped right on the Cbr for a test drive right out of the msf class & had no problems at all. I ride a 2008 Cbr 600rr btw.
was thinking about getting a cbr600 for my first bike or a gsxr 600. i just love the technology the cbr’s come with. honda is always a great choice as well. you commenting this makes me want it even more lol !!
How is the comfort? I was thinking about getting the 650r for my first bike. I need it to be comfortable good on gas but cheap on insurance.
@@ChevyCorvetteZ the comfort does get better over time but the riding position is pretty far forward so you gotta get used to it. I got my bike when I was 21 and comprehensive insurance through State Farm was like 40 bucks a month for me. My Cbr probably gets around 35 ish mpg but I do ride it pretty hard now lol. The Cbr 650r is a great choice too man & I’m sure the riding position is better on it at least.
Started out on a '19 SV650 last year and put 12K miles on it within 3 months. I love it and will be riding it for a few more years before I upgrade. Not because I'm not ready, but I love the SV.
For cruiser boys, I would recommend the Indian Scout 60. Awesome looks, easy to handle and instead of growing out, you can add a new exhaust system, air filter and dyno command that will bring the power up big time.
It holds its value well too

Surprisingly the 650r is extremely popular. My local Honda dealers are always saying they sell out immediately every time they get a shipment.
Before I bought my MT-07, I considered getting a 650R, and it was sold an hour after I left to think about it.
It was probably for the best.
I bought a 2012 VStrom, 68 HP, okay off-road, plenty of on road performance, vtwin roar…
Love it.
After riding a Honda moped for a couple years in southern Italy, I moved to Las Vegas (because even I thought a moped was unsafe in that town - dangerous drivers) and bought a used Honda CM-450. Saw its twin in a shop a couple years ago and wanted to walk over and pet it. 10,000 miles a year on that bike for 3 years, ranging from San Diego to Dixie National Forest in Utah, from Death Valley to North Pole AZ. Rode back up to the Nevada Sierras last September and it was more beautiful than I remembered. A bike is what you make of it. The only time it lacked power was when I turned a corner on I-15 diectly into a 70 MPH sand storm.

at 46 decided to buy a motorcycle, started with the Ninja650 , for starters I think it looks really great, better than the other presented bikes, cheaper than the CBR or the R7, still providing enough HP and torque to be fun and can get you to 200KMH without a problem (we are talking about bikes for new riders) , it is light enough to be easily maneuvered in tight traffic, easy and cheap to maintain. and even with the basic suspension it still provide a very good platform for beginners, at least it was like that for me

As a owner of the older CBR650f the platform is good as a commuter and can be fun in the twisties if you don’t mind throwing around that pig, I’ve owned mine for 5 years and I’d keep it and get a second motorcycle for off road riding.

The CBR is obviously the most powerful motorcycle I’ve owned, if you want a sport bike you can commute on that is the one. 😀

I have 2 sons, one that lacks finesse and I recommended an FZ07 for him. He's had it since launch and it's been perfect for him. My other son is lean and extremely agile, I found a broke FZ8 for him and it's going to be a track bike. Bikes should be suited to ones skill level. A twin cylinder 3/4 liter has a nice torque curve and is a bike that one doesn't immediately outgrow. A 3/4 liter 4 cylinder is a high revving monster and can't be compared to a twin. Choose a bike that suits your skill level and try to buy your first bike used.
My first bike I got back in August is a H-D Iron 1200 and I’m loving it. I still want to make a few modifications to it, but I’m getting there lol. I always have fun when I ride that bike on the open country roads.

The difference between starter bikes in each countries is so huge, here in Brazil since there are more varieties of low cc bikes a motorcycle like the ninja 400 isn't seen as much of a starter bike and the MT-07 especially wouldn't be recommend for beginners, but like I said..each country has its "tempo"

Same here in the Philippines bro, we usually have 150cc bikes. And the minimum cc that can be taken up on tollways is about 400cc lol, so 400cc bikes are considered big bikes lmao...

Here in India, 100cc bike are most selling bike😂 these are like you daily bikes, the layman's bikes. And ktm 390s are considered superbikes! Only like top 1% rich people of the country can afford those 400cc 😂
Literally bought a 2018 CBR650F as my first bike. It's is the perfect amount of power for what he said, a responsible enough rider. Quick enough you won't get bored in a year like you will buying a 250/300 cc.
why u have to get bored on 300cc bike ??? its just your opinion ... i see a loot of drivers riding 300cc for a 3-4years and they still not bored of it .... it has enough power for overtaking or cruising on highway ...its nimble in the city its a lot of fun rev those little things .... it is always about personal preferences ... some people doesnt get bored riding small bikes ... and some people get bored in one year on 650cc or more .... for someone is even 900cc or so small bike ...u cant say everyone get bored of something in a year ... u dont know that ... and the selling factor proves that too ... and one more fact ... people withh 1000cc bikes are buing small 300-500cc bikes for fun and using those small cc bikes over the big ones .
@@marekbabik2791 I don't think it scales as well as going from small cc to medium cc and then to liter bikes. Also your opinion. You can have fun on almost any bike if you really want to. I've heard more people bored on small bikes graduating to mid size bike than I've heard saying 'ive been happy on my 300cc for years'.
Gonna get the street twin as my first bike this summer. Been eyeing it since it’s reveal back in 2016. But yeah I’m hyped! Probably one of the best stock exhaust ever.
I think the Ninja 400 is probably the best on this list, simply because of its price and the reliability you get with Kawasaki.
Yeah it’s not the fastest but you can abuse the hell out of it and it’ll keep going.
You can wind it out pretty good and learn some techniques or take it to the track and push it to the limit.
You can rip the fairings off if you want, through some 30/70 tires on it and see how you do off-road.
It’s engine is a masochist for punishment and the bike just asks for more.
Though i believe you'd outgrow the ninja 400 too fast. It is actually pretty fun to ride. I've ridden an older model once and it was surprisingly fun. Weird clutch, kinda aggressive seated position (at least more that you'd imagine it to be), and not the best suspension but pretty fun though. It's a real weekend toy.
I have the previous model, the Ninja 300. Still riding it even after about 45.000km and it's still going strong as day one, no issues every. Of course properly maintained.
I'm getting a new RS660 currently as second bike but honestly, the Ninja 300 is so much fun, incredibly smooth and so sick with all the exhaust pops (Akrapovic slip on, no dB eater), I'll never sell the bike.
I've test driven the Ninja 400 when it came out, too. It's just like the 300 with a bit more torque, I imagine it will last just as good if not even longer.
If anyone thinks such a bike is quickly out of fun, they have never tried one of the little ones properly. I'm still quite away from truly pushing the bike to its real limits (not my personal limits)

If you pick the CBR650R like me, you must think of its weight~ 210kg, made it the most heaviest beginner bike. I bough mine in March this year, got my full license in 3 months from Learner. Dropped my bikes 5 times when turning right.
Low speed turning on CBR650R is really not comfortable at all.
A ninja 400 would be the most comfortable for beginners, but the bike gave me a Plastic feeling. I ordered it and I canceled it in 3 days, then changing my mind buying the CBR650R because of the Look. Look sick!
Absolutely love my ninja 400. Have thousands of miles under my belt at this point, other much faster bikes, but getting on the ninja 400 is always a wonderful time.
did you have any problems with the clutch?
@tall kid it has recently started slipping high speed, a little under 2k miles but I've abused it to be honest. Probably doing stock clutch fibers with heavier duty springs soon

@tall kid 2021 in my eyes with the slipper it lasted long enough to get me used to streetbike clutch and by the time they go out I'm at least ready for a more aggressive engagement and don't really need the slip anymore. Cheap fix as well
I bought my first street bike ever. Ended up with the 21 SV650 cause I wanted a mid-sized bike instead of trading up later, also it's literally the only mid bike they had.... it's Hawaii don't expect a massive market for street bikes. I wish they had the CBR650 cause of the street look but I'm feeling good about the apparent reliability of the SV... and #4 on my Papa Yams list isn't too bad either. Love u Papa ❤️

My 1st was a Harley 1200c 100th anniv custom sportster that was slightly modded. Then had a Daytona 675. So had best of both worlds. Traded both those in and got a custom dyna wide glide. After moving to tx and selling that wide glide i now have a R6 which is friggin awesome. Next yr will be a slightly used RS660.

Im 46, 245lb gym rat. Its important to ride comfortably. Liter bike is to big still. Dayton 765 may be the best fit. Even after a full knee replacement.

I agree with the Honda 650 cbr. That is what I ride. nice liner power band. I started on a Suzuki gs 500 after only 1-2 months of riding I bought a 2014 Honda cbr 650. I instantly became a better rider. and pretty much learned to ride on it. So technically not my first bike it is the bike I really learned on and grew on. and am planning to keep it for at least 1 more year!
This brings me back to 2017 Yam.... Love it.

@@embo_fk8396 I would say if you're going from a dirt bike to street bike, youll feel the difference, but it was not an issue for me. I never had issues with turns or anything like that. Sure I've dropped it a few times, but that was simply not knowing how to manuver a bike. I know how to now, and I would say the cbr650r is an absolute beauty, especially how nice it sounds with my motified pipe.
I'm returning to riding this year amd my ninja250 is getting built into a track bike and will be buying a z400, sv650 or mt07 soon for my street bike. Thanks for the great video papa!

I got a 2018 SV650 as my first real bike after passing my license and I’m beyond happy with it.
I can vouch for the Iron 1200, it's my first street bike & I absolutely love it. I've done basic mods and it fuckin rips! Worth every penny IMO.
Of the bikes you listed, assuming we are talking only beginners for who more powerful bikes are appropriate, I would have to say the SV would make the most sense for most people to start on. M07 would be OK if they put a normal handle bar on the thing in the last revision. The original bend was really wonky and not ergonomic.

Started riding recently first bike 2012 street Triple 675r a lot of fun just keeping the rpm’s low for now.
Lol. I started on a M8 powered Softail. A bit heavy for a beginner according to the experts, unpowered can’t corner according to the sport bike crowd. I absolutely love it. If I found an envelope stuffed with small unmarked bills I’d upgrade to 145hp/145 ftlb or so and widen my grin.
my first bike is Honda Grand Astrea 1995 or you can say c100. Very modest 100 cc bike with carburetor technology. This was for me to learn properly how to maintain bike!
It’s good to get a fact at the end every once in a while. I will add one thing to your video, every bike manufacturer, model and sometimes trim feels different to sit and ride on - if your uncomfortable, you ain’t gonna have a good time .

Seriously considering pulling the trigger on an RS660 so I can take a rider course and be ride ready when it gets delivered close to the beginning of spring......and leave all the nannies maxed out for a few months of course. I live in a quiet neighborhood (well until I put an Miiv exhaust on it 🤣🤣🤣) with a cul-de-sac so some slow speed practicing will be what I do for the first few days
You're right about the Ninja 400 being a great little bike but that's relative as when compared to the thirty year old ZXR400L it's crap, the ZXR had a tested 62bhp at the rear wheel and ran the standing quarter in 12 seconds dead.
This was fantastic. I'd love to see the same format for "intermediate" or "2nd" bikes.

I've never heard of this channel and as a long time CBR500R rider (bought in 2013), I felt slapped in the face right off the bat. However, he's right. Love my 500 but had the Ninja 400 been available back in 2013 I would have gotten it instead. Meanwhile, I'm looking to upgrade and one of the bikes I'm considering is #1 on his list. So I feel redeemed. I think I might have to sub to this channel. Great video 👍
I was lucky to have a family member with a Ninja 250 laying around that I could learn on. I would have a hard time recommending for someone to spend money on a beginner bike though. bought a used CBR650F with less than 300 miles for my first bike. Absolute sweet bike and treats me good.

Sweet! I'm 32 years old and finally and strongly considering getting a motorcycle and the 650R was on my list.
My first bike was a 2021 MT-07, about 2 months later, boom I'm hopping on a Hayabusa (no turbo). It's the ultimate beginner bike, you just have to watch the throttle, the weight, turn radius, insurance, and gas mileage. Also be prepared to spend a fortune on tires and tickets. But those aren't negatives, they're just spicy positives. The only bike that's better is a TW200!

@@GrimGamingTTV I have gotten a ticket in the mail before from running on the 07. Was doing wheelies then I ran, though I got away just to get a ticket a few days later in the mailbox, so much fun lol. Plus it's so much easier to get out of a ticket. Tell the officer to rev the bike, some don't want to but some do it for shits and giggles. Once they do it, tell them "see how easily it revs, this bike has alot of power, I wasn't trying to speed" (or something similar but make it sound genuine). You'll most likely get a verbal/written warning.
Which Hayabusa exactly? And is that hayabusa for beginners? I plan to get the Kawasaki ninja 400 the one Yammie mentioned first

I have a 23 sv650 & the 75hrsprs with a power commander is definitely enough to get rowdy in a controlled way. As a beginner/intermediate rider. 👍
My beginner bike, was Rupp Sprint, mini bike, in 71. Start small, or not. It was all I could afford. Went to a superbike 2 yrs later.

Bought a 2022 ZX25R last month and I think it is a great starter bike for someone who loves tracks. 250cc but 4 cylinders so it ditches out more HP than the 400 and has a slightly higher max speed than the 400. Basically a 250cc version of the ZX10R
The ZX25R would definitely be my choice if it was sold where I live,it's by far the most fun little bike.
thats only for the asian market, in the USA and Europe there is no such bike. Maybe the new ZX4RR is a good alternative
Cbr650r actually makes 84hp at wheel. It's still a great bike I own!
My first bike was a Kawasaki ZX6R - 636, could not be happier with it. 110ish HP is plenty & if you respect it - you'll be fine. :D
(Its a 636a, & in a few months it'll be 20 Years old, im not stupid enaugh to buy a brand new bike as a beginner. :b)
So I’ve watched several of your beginner bike videos and had a question. I’ve been riding a Harley Fatboy 88 cubic inch for several years now, but have been itching to grab a sport bike. Obviously I know it’s a different type of power band and style and all that, but with me already having riding experience what beginner bike would you recommend? 600cc, 1000cc, etc.?

I'm looking at the ninja 650 for my first bike. More affordable than an R7, good ergonomics for me, good speeds to learn at and grow with, etc.
Yammie thanks for video looks great and spot on I was thinking for used bike 🏍 which I think should be in your list KTM 690 73 bhp naked version it’s not the SMC r Supermoto will you consider this and recommend this for beginners ? KTM have stopped making this 690 naked version since 2019 as I’m currently riding KTM 125 on my CBT going for 390 duke is not different from 125cc 690 will be more fun right ? Thank once again
Im learning on a 84 Honda VF1100S and just like the CBR 650R mine makes all the power in the uper rpm band and so i comfortably am learning the bike without killing myself and at 125hp&75ftlb no less.
If you’re looking for a first bike and are looking at Mt07’s but are worried about suspension, don’t. I have one and it’s my first bike, and I think it’s fine. But I haven’t ridden anything else to compare it to. I can still keep up with dudes on 600 and 1000cc bikes around the twistys so I don’t see a problem.
My first bike is a 2004 R6 lol. I have a lot of fun with it and love it.

The definition of beginner motorcycle varies from country to country. Here in India beginner bike simply means 125cc, 150cc or 200cc. You have tons of good options from great brands like Indigenous brand such as Hero, TVS, Bajaj.. Japanese Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Austrian KTM. And of course 600-800cc is not beginner level. That's mid range. If you really want to know your bike from every angle then start from a low cc and low bhp bike.
What’s your thought on a 6’ 5” 235 pound guy fitment on a lowered 2007 zx6r ? I feel comfortable on the bike and love it but not sure if I have the bear on a tricycle look .
6'5" and the zx6 is lowered? That tall if you'd want to fix a "bear on a trike" look maybe return it to stock height. Otherwise I'd say roll with it.👍
