As a Moto Guzzi owner, I fully agree with Yammie. A huge part of the reason I bought it was precisely the fact that it has a weird engine, shakes like it's 1950, and no one knows anything about the company (even though it's been around for over a century). But he should have picked on the electrical system, not the engine. The engine is bulletproof.

Years ago I rode BMW Airheads and enjoyed them very much but people assumed I was a rich yuppie (I'm a welder). I got out of riding while raising a family for several years. When I got back into it I found I needed the legs forward riding position of a cruiser so I got a Honda Shadow and other metric cruisers, and then was accused of being a poser wannabe. Now, after finding a nice deal on a clean Dyna I'm told that I'm playing dress up. You just can't win with some people. Ride your own bike and STFU!

My motorcycle, a 2005 Sportster 1200 Roadster, says "Hey, our service technician is here!"
I bought it new in 2005, and put 50,000 miles on it in the first 3 years. It currently has 82,000 miles on it. It replaced the 1982 GS850G that I'd had for many years.
The reason why the miles per year dropped off is because one of my clients hired me at the end of 2008 and the 500 mile days ended. The bike has done everything expected of it.

sv650 is dated, but that might be a good thing for a beginner. good ergonomics, good handling, it's got that rider assist to help from stalling. a beginner has to learn how to juggle multiple tasks with both legs and both hands. sv650 is perfect for someone to learn those things, and you won't outgrow it as quickly as a 300. definitely a bike to keep and pass down.

Having ridden the Meteor 350. I have to say that it's a very pleasant ride, comfortable, and has a slick gear change. Would I like to take one on a long trip on the freeway ? Absolutely not. It isn't fast enough for me. But for riding through town, and the odd trip on back roads. It's perfectly adequate. Why spend Harley money on something you are almost never going to take above 60mph anyway ? It's called a cruiser for a reason.

    • @KevinSmith-qi5yn

I bought one and except for the interstate, which I detest driving on anyway, I can go the speed limit anywhere else in style and comfort at 90-100 MPG for 4500 bucks and 70 bucks for year insurance. And my opportunities to kill myself are reduced by like 90% ( *made up stat* ) so its basically a no brainer. Also I'm old and I don't care.

    • @x-man5056
      @x-man5056 Год назад

Because a Harley can ride around town AND on the freeway? There is a lot of territory between Meteor 350 and almost any Harley. You look like a grown man. Get a 450 or larger. Triumph Bonneville's are significantly less than Harleys but still have some grunt to them. 900 and 1200 cc.

Here's a reply 2 years late. Test rode a Hunter 350 - it's shockingly better than the Meteor 350 even though the engine is the same. The tune and the exhaust are different and it's actually possible to accelerate in 5th gear. Also more confortable seat.

I did have a Suzuki Dr-Z 400 SM for about 5 years. And it did have aftermarket levers. But context is everything. In the US, I would definitely prefer a KTM. But I don't live in the US. I live in Kyoto, Japan. Here, traffic is congested AF. Even though I now ride a Yamaha MT-09 Tracer, I would still take my old DR-Z 400 in an A to B race anywhere in Kyoto. It was high, light, narrow, and had more than enough power in a tight traffic environment. It was a genuine urban assault vehicle. On an open road, my Tracer would flat smoke it. But I don't ride on open roads very often. Some days, I still miss the 400.

As an owner of both the new gen Z900 and the new gen MT 09,
The z900 is the better of the 2 imo.
Its smoother, sportier, has better build quality, and handles better. The only thing ill give the MT 09 over the z900 is its low end punch, and the separation of the power and TC modes. Other than that, ill take the Z any day.

This vid isn't about bikes, it's about identity - persona and self-image. You gotta admit, one of the biggest uses of motorcycles (especially in current American society) is as an accessory/prop to build an image. I assure you though, there's a minority of people out there who couldn't give a flying ƒµ¢≤ what anyone _else_ think their bike choice says about _them,_ and have no unresolved gender issues. So they're free to just buy whatever bike appeals to them.

Those bikes in good condition can't be found under 6k anywhere in the US.
Drz400sm is the true working class supermoto. Taking a ktm690 down and up stairs isn't as fun.
Pay 2x the price on a bike your going to drop isn't fun.
If your not dropping your super moto going off road, trying new things, driving on road, to the Beach, in mud, then you have the wrong bike.

Paying 2x the money to have the same fun on a less comfortable ride is the most poser thing ever, just to say ur on a euro bike and it's specs.
You could pike up a drz400sm in good condition around 6k and 1k in mods.
After taxes, fees, registration you would be at about 7.5k
That's a pretty penny of money but it's a good toy to use in mud, drop, lend to good friends, learn on, travel with.
Vs paying 2x the price at 14k never using it to it's full potential, not wanting to really use it because your still paying for it... idk it just doesn't make sense for most situations.

It's because they remember when motorcycles looked like motor cycles, not Transformers. All that body work on bikes (Ninja style) just gets in the way and adds weight. Fine for a race track, but impractical and, IMO, grandiose on the street (and ugly colors). Keep the Bonney, though imperfect also, they have stood the test of time and so have Harley's. I have a '22 Triumph Street Scrambler, and I'm on Medicare. Cheers.

@@cristianseminario7899 If you are talking about dresser/touring bikes, yes. If you are talking about crotch rockets, no. A fairing/windshield is nice. Practical. The body work for aero on Ninja type bikes is not needed on the street at all, it is purely cosmetic under 100mph. It may help you fantasize about being a real racer, but it is just way in the way to do even minor maintenance IMO. You don't have to be "practical' to enjoy your ride, if you just like the looks of the body work, go for it. But on the street at anywhere near speed limits, it's just extra cargo on the bike.
