That's true. Many people getting their first 650 want something predictable and boring, not something that rips wheelies. To be honest, it takes twisty roads just as well as an SV or an MT07, it's only the engine that is a little boring. That makes all the difference.

Really well said, i owned one for 2 years, completely stock. The parallel twin has no character but is still fun, like an economy car with a sport pkg. Pop the clutch in 2nd or 3rd and you can wheelie all day. Easily cruises 70mph on the hwy. Great fuel mileage and comfortable ride so good for commuting. All said - the MT07 is a much much better buy.
@The Power Moves I've owned many bikes, the Z650 being one of the most boring but excellent as a first or second motorcycle for beginners and intermediates.
@@calvinnyala9580 no it wouldn't, that 250 is already pushing what it can do. You'd have to trade compression for boost. And your heat and metallurgical ceiling are really low. And a supercharger takes power from the engine to run. So you're trading power to run the supercharger to make maybe 5 extra wheel horsepower, which was maybe 15 hp but you lost 10 of those running the supercharger, on a 50 horsepower engine. Its literally a bad idea and that's why kawasaki or any motorcycle company won't supercharge a bike under 1000cc, and on the side they probably won't turbo anything smaller than a 600/650 because it has to provide more benefit than cost. Which it won't on a 300cc motor.
@@monkmoto1887 I don't think it'd suck 10hp running a supercharger - remember, it'd be a tiny unit. You're right about it pushing the engine though. I'm sure it could be done aftermarket but for them to offer a warranty on a stressed little engine...yeah, i don't think it would happen.

Considering the z650 for my first bike. I just want to cruise and have the available power to pass soundly on my twenty minute commute to work. It just seems like a really all around good choice for me.
Great second bike, I own a z650 but my brother owns a 2019 street triple RS. That bike is AMAZING I adore it so much but my brother doesn't want me to buy the same bike as him 🤣. Still searching for the perfect second bike 😅.
As a short rider with not a tonne of experience (this is my second season) I find the seat design and seat height to be very controllable and confidence inspiring and that’s in part why I like it so much. It’s a big upgrade from my old ninja 300 and it was very cheap and available. In my area if I wanted an Mt07 I have to pay a 500 dollar deposit and wait half a year to get it and that’s without ever having the opportunity to sit on it. So my decision to go with the z650 was in part due to convenience. My local kawi dealer had it in stock and would let me sit on it and it was cheap for the value (2021 model). That being said sometimes I wish I made the full jump to the z900
I think that where a motorcycle is tested has a huge impact on whether it is found to be exciting or boring. If you drove a Miata around Austin it would seem boring too. Its not the Dodge Hellcat of motorcycles for sure. Most of the favorable reports on the kawasakis with the 650 motor come out of Europe the UK or California where there are things like mountains or coast lines to ride. Exciting places for exceptional vehicle's like the Miata or a Z 650.
Have to say, i think that engine sounds amazing, intake sounds are my favourite sound of bikes. It's why I like kawasaki in general and the triumph triple
I've got one, and it really doesn't to be honest. It's OK, but compared with it's rivals the sound is a boring tak-tak-tak even with an exhaust. The intake is good, hides it a bit.
I get it, pops yam is a track rider and has a lot of experience. I have a '21 Z650 on deposit awaiting my bike course, their opinions on the bike make me question my choice. Truth of the matter is not only that z650 more than competent on the street its probably going to last 10x as long as a triumph trident. Also, unrelated, but spite can't ride to save his life, its embarrassing watching videos of him riding. And yammie isn't very good either riding backroads at 45mph in 1st gear at 7.500 rpm on an r1... and 90 percent of their audience doesn't ride... so with all that in mind id say that their opinions are pretty meaningless.

Not on the pro or semi pro level in competitions were kawi, yamaha, honda, or suzuki are participating.
I mean, moto America for example, championship rider Josh Herrin was on the podium or fighting for it all year 2019 on his factory suzuki. Now on a privateer bmw he can't keep up with privateer suzukis and yamahas, struggling to finish 10th, out of like 14-17 bikes. Similar story with the ducati team. They make sure to feature it every race. Theyre never competitive and all they mention is how they're "collecting data" meaning they can't win, they know it and so does everyone else so they won't even lie to you and pretend to be competitive
Your review is dead on. This is a “safe” choice. I agree the sportiness of the mt is better. The smooth ride of the cb650r is better. There is of course the sound. Sound is subjective and is affected by other considerations for me. As a 50 year old man with severe arthritis, the ride of the Honda is amazing, but the lower pitched sound of the kawi especially with stock exhaust protects my hearing as a guitarist. I’m a small-statured man with commuting and protecting my hearing for my first love in mind.
Oh please, it is very light and agile making it very beginner-friendly. 2021 model is awesome - better paint options, tyres, dash and headlight. Non of this unfortunately is available on mt07. I also considered Cbr650r, but cbr is fat and heavy, a would have dropped it first day.
I rode a Yamaha FZ6R, which is arguably even more boring than the Z650, for 30,000 miles. It's a pretty tame, even tempered motorcycle. I just recently upgraded to the FZ1 Gen. 2, which is just a beast of a motorcycle. Now I realized how effortless the FZ6R was and really appreciate the design of the bike. Everything on a "boring" bike is so easy, you forget the bike is there and you end up just enjoying the ride. With the FZ1, I feel like I'm controlling an animal to do my biding. It's a totally different, adrenaline pumping experience. Each has it's own merit, I think.
I agree with you Yammie, about how plain the Z650 is. I still own a 2019 Kawasaki Z650 that I bought in April 2019 and love it. The only thing that I don't like about my Z650 are the short gearing; at 36 mph, the manual recommends that you should be on 6th gear. I don't see Kawasaki having a problem dishing out money to develop a new engine though, lets not forget that Kawasaki is a conglomerate that have their hands on aerospace, building/structure, luxury cruise ships, and other engineering related fields; an example is the Kawasaki ZH2 which is claimed to be an all-in-house development and manufacturing with the assistance of their aerospace department (reference: Kawasaki USA RUclips Channel of their recent video press release of their 2021 model lineup that was release on 11/22/2020).
I’ve noticed, maybe because I own one, that the Versys 650 is the occasional punchline to your jokes. More recently you’ve said the Versys is the perfect commuter and the perfect balance of practicality. I’ve been subscribed for years and never seen one on your channel. Shmaybe you could get one and do a review. Even better, you could force Spite to live with it for a week. Just my thoughts.
aham. Under 4 seconds to 100km/s, so boring. Do you guys honestly not know what it feels like to sit on a motorcycle for the first time, and be able to do 4 seconds to 100km/s? Does that sound boring to a beginner? What are you guys smoking? I want some too.
It would be very kool if Kawasaki made an inline 4 stroker. They made ZX-4RR which is dope, but I think everyone wants torque, and I'm not aware of any torque dominant inline 4s.
Oh and could you make a motorcycle list for people heights, cause there is a range of bikes that can change a riders experience in certain height districts
I don’t know what you’re talking about dude. The torque on this bike is crazy, granted it starts to run out of steam at 65+ but down low there’s tons of fun to be had.
He didn't say that. He just said it was lacking the spark that competitors own. I've got one - he's totally right. I love the bike and it's never let me down, but it is boring compared with others. Now, on a twisty road it's just as fun but day-to-day on normal roads other bikes are more fun.
Can you please make an update video ? Of the 2023 and if you can.. the z900 2023 😊 awesome stuff bro ! I’m sure people would enjoy watching thanks!!!!!
The design is very neutral. Versatile. Let me explain. I have the Givi 3 piece luggage on this bike, it is my main mode of transportation. 75% city use, 25 % highway use. The parallel twin has smooth and adequate torque right where I need it. Each engine configuration has its pros and cons, the parallel twin suits my needs the best. It is light and very nimble with excellent brakes, which I love since I started learning moto gymkhana last year. Yes, the stock springs are light, I put heavier ones. Yes, it sounds like a lawnmower, but I don't care. As my riding skills have improved ( I have spent a lot of time practicing ), it is as I have gotten a new and improved bike. I have learned to extract more from the bike by such as proper gear changes, this is what I mean by a very neutral design. This bike improves more than the other bikes you mentioned if you concentrate on improving your skills. In my opinion this bike is a very thought out design. It is not a boring bike in my opinion, it is a bike that the rider has to extract the character. Maybe a blank page is the best analogy. Just my opinion. Thanks.
I agree with you, but it doesn't have character that comes out. It's a damn fine bike but it's boring. Love mine though, but a Camry doesn't become a Ferrari just because you throw it around a track
I have the cfmoto 650mt, which is basically the z650 engine, and older frame design. (The rumour is Cfmoto used the old Kawasaki molds, they look exactly the same). It's good, not great, it goes fast, not fast enough, it's fun, but not exciting. It's safe, just safe enough. It's really a beginners bike.
They’re really not that different, aside from the display. However, my take is basically the exact opposite. I ended up on the Kawi because I found the Honda boring, and the Yamaha uncomfortable. The Z650 is the most comfortable, made the best noise (to my ears), looks by far the best, has the best tech, had the nicest power curve, etc. And it was cheaper to top it off
Hello from a future. New rider here. I got a Z650RS ... BECAUSE it is boring. It is bike. Just bike. Well Kawasaki does have a 4 cylinder 636 engine they could slip in there to make it a bit more "fun". ;) Bike wouldn't be as cheap but wouldn't sound or feel as cheap either. I think most newer riders would love the bike the way it is, .. and it does look great even though it may seem boring to people that have ridden faster bikes.
I think Kawasaki made the 650 just to be a middle step up until you get to the godly Z900, cause lord knows going from an A2 license motorcycle like the z400 or any power restricted compliant motorcycle to the Z900 is asking for your coffin measurements. This is fine, not a whole lot of middle weight bikes out there you can afford to buy just to discard a few months/year for a bigger bike if that's your final goal.

I don’t know why is it boring) 2 days ago I got my license. Yesterday I bought 2022 model z650. This is my first bike. And I left the dealership late, drove at night 140 miles to home on freeway in the rain. Didn’t feel it is boring 😅
I love how there is like 50 videos bashing this bike, clearly it's much more fun than you admit it!
How can we make it more interesting?
Super... Charger
The one thing kawasaki has over everyone else
The another small kawa bike benefits best from a supercharger would be zx25r, that 250cc would be a blast once supercharged
It'll take at least 10 percent of that engines power to make anything appreciable with the supercharger, thats a given. So minimum 5 out of 50.
@@TheG60528XiJinPing It wouldn't be slower, it would have instant torque down low which is what these 4 cylinder screamers lack. It's the added price, weight and complexity that makes this type of thing unfeasible from a business perspective
I just went from a 1980 CB750F to a 2020 Z650. I am still beginner, only riding two years. The CB was getting difficult to keep alive. I think the Z650 was a good choice for me. I like it and think it's going to make a great stepping stone for later down the road. I ride mainly for commuting.
"allmost every car has a NA V6". really? most cars just have a boring NA i4
American delusions.
Pretty sure most new cars come with a turbo i-4 with a redline at 5000rpm.
I prefer having a boring NA i4 as a base model, NA V8 as the top end, and a i4 hybrid alternative to keep them tree huggers happy, and yes all in one model.
Look at Honda their main motor for a 4 banger that is beloved is the KA24 which produces raw hp... Mitsubishi 1gen 4g63t will put a built v8 to shame look at John Shepard’s awd eagle talon

Considering the z650 for my first bike. I just want to cruise and have the available power to pass soundly on my twenty minute commute to work. It just seems like a really all around good choice for me.

Still waiting for Yammie to hop on a z900
Yes. Can’t review a bike without riding it
Doubt he ever will, I'm waiting to see that one myself.
Funny how much some people value the exhaust and not how the motorcycle actually performs ;D
Looks better then it's competitors
Shes just a stylised commuter bike. And for commuting they are fantastic!
As opposed to the brum-brum-brum of something like the MT or SV haha
I love my Kawasaki Z650... I drive it almost everyday...
I cant get over how you pronounce kowaSACKee
I think he contradicts himself between this video and the kawasaki ninja 650, where he says to buy this bike over the mt07. Or am i wrong?
All the reviewers who say this bike is a boring bike are testing it on a straight line road, man wtf
I too have the 2020 model. The change it needs is an adjustable front suspension ! Yup, this guy's a Yamaha dude !
The only engine they can use without being called out on copying is a v3
Kawasaki is not worried about those squid beginner bikes you should talk about the discontinuation of the R6 due to euro 5 regs
I get it, pops yam is a track rider and has a lot of experience. I have a '21 Z650 on deposit awaiting my bike course, their opinions on the bike make me question my choice. But the bike seems relatively tame and safe enough for a beginner (Im in AUS so this bike is restricted) so fuckit, I'm still going for it.
Dont let his opinion deter you... i went from a cbr600rr to the z650 and love it. Yammie has always been biased against Lawi bikes. Watch Spite's take on this bikr
@@planetwally for sure! I'm still gonna get it.
Curious if you ever picked it up. I know restricted they are close to a Ninja 400 in power. I went from an N400 to the Z650 and it was a world of difference. When you get the restriction taken off I'm sure it'll be like a whole new bike.
@@Tashin32 I had the bike on deposit, supposedly was the last one in the warehouse in my state. "Making a good decision depositing now because the waiting list is over 3 months, you'll be able to pickup the bike as soon as you get your licence."
Got my leatners, go to pay for the bike in cash. And I get told the bike hasn't arrived onshore yet, I told em to get fucked. Went to a local kawi dealer, sat on a ninja 400 and fell for it. Bought it in black, 2 weeks wait.
Hindsight I made the right decision with the ninja 400, especially with the restricted 650s. Realistically the same power but I saved 4 grand.
Nah man, this isnt even critisism anymore. This is just hating on kawa. "I dont know why, but i miss something". Dude how can u say its boring? The sound is nice, the power is linear, its agile, looks sick and doesnt cost that much. I dont own it. But i have a buddy who does. This thing is fun to ride.
If its not a euro bike its not fun. He praises Agusta for simple design that hasn't changed. Then bashes the big 4 for doing the same.
What that guy said^ its trendy to like eurobikes and this is a hipster owned and operated channel.
@@monkmoto1887 They talk about all these fast euro bikes but how many moto gp wins do they have compared to the so called boring Honda and Yamaha. Revzilla had a video where a 2005 k5 Jixxer whooped the new Ducati with all it's tech. They then went to Ducati dealer and asked them whats wrong with the bike. Turns out the bike was fine it just wasn't a Japanese bike haha.
@@ZeroFallout1 not only that, but 6 years in a row wsbk has been dominated by kawasaki and they won't even give the zx10r the time of day in a review. I haven't seen a ducati, bmw, or mvagusta win any races at all within the last 5 years I can think of.
I just got a 2024 Z650 brand new yesterday. No regrets.
I can ride grom on twisties and have a blast, it’s really the rider imo
Yeah but the FZ6R has the inline4 sound.... the Kawa 650 twin is a borrrrrrring sound.
Love all the uploads
6th gear in 36 mph??? Kawa 650 likes to cruise at 5-6K rpm, you'd be at 2k rpm in 6th at 36 lol
for not liking this bike , they certainly make enough videos of it lol
I love the howl of mine cranking on the throttle..the more I ride it the more I appreciate it it's a solid ride

Yammie’s body count got me SHOOK
i'm sorry, but if you can't have fun on this bike then there is something wrong with your mindset.
True
He didn't say that. He just said it was lacking the spark that competitors own. I've got one - he's totally right. I love the bike and it's never let me down, but it is boring compared with others. Now, on a twisty road it's just as fun but day-to-day on normal roads other bikes are more fun.
They use them for races right? So must be not that bad. Price is also 👍 for what you get.
You mentioned the Versys 650. How do you feel about that bike, or the other two that share the engine, Ninja 650 and Vulcan S?

Hello, new subscriber here. Planning to buy z650.
Sad to see those tents under the bridge. At least it isn't 1/18 as bad as Seattle.
Would you say the same about the new z650 2020?
They’re really not that different, aside from the display. However, my take is basically the exact opposite. I ended up on the Kawi because I found the Honda boring, and the Yamaha uncomfortable. The Z650 is the most comfortable, made the best noise (to my ears), looks by far the best, has the best tech, had the nicest power curve, etc. And it was cheaper to top it off
@@jeffholland3979 also the head lamp got updated to an led headlamp, but your rite it's pretty much the same bike.
Hello from a future. New rider here. I got a Z650RS ... BECAUSE it is boring. It is bike. Just bike. I can focus on me and developing my riding and talent rather than having the bike's personality be central. I just wanted a bike. I got bike. Don't forget the ER roots of the Z650 and that twin. ER means Essential Riding. That's what it is ... a good bike. A solid 7/10 across all factors.

Remember that Yam also made a video on how the s1000rr was boring. So...
Not to mention the video about ALL Hondas are boring !
As a 40 yr old beginner rider I’m looking for a fun and comfortable commuter bike and I’m not interested in trying to kill myself for a cool RUclips video like I would have at 18-25. I’ve heard the Mt-07 is narrow and uncomfortable for big guys weighing 250lbs. So would this be enough bike or would a Z900 maybe be a better choice?
Would you recommend a z400 as a starter bike then jumping straight to the z900 which is a fantastic bike that is it’s own thing and much more interesting, or would you recommend something like an aprilia shiver 900?
Got the z650! Its light and fast! Its a keeper!
my very first time riding was a 2020 z650 i was on the interstate in two days going 100. the bike is just easy it gives you confidence but still lets u know when to chill
Its a GREAT bike!!! Perfect for the price and for people beginning to ride.
I love the look of this bike, and it looks like it has great ergonomics, but I haven't had the chance to sit on one. I don't mid the sound either. It definitely sounds better than my KLX300SM.
Air exhaust flash from Moore and the bikes a blast specially for a 1st bike
Well Kawasaki does have a 4 cylinder 636 engine they could slip in there to make it a bit more "fun". ;) Bike wouldn't be as cheap but wouldn't sound or feel as cheap either. I think most newer riders would love the bike the way it is, .. and it does look great even though it may seem boring to people that have ridden faster bikes.
Then it wouldn't work as a commuter bike with low down torque, and it wouldn't pass Euro 5
I ride a ninja 650 this thing wheelies too ezzzzz
I think Kawasaki made the 650 just to be a middle step up until you get to the godly Z900, cause lord knows going from an A2 license motorcycle like the z400 or any power restricted compliant motorcycle to the Z900 is asking for your coffin measurements. This is fine, not a whole lot of middle weight bikes out there you can afford to buy just to discard a few months/year for a bigger bike if that's your final goal.
Papa yams would you recommend this for a VERY FIRST bike? I learned a bit on a Ninja 250
