Nice review! I just got this hub about 2weeks ago and it is an improvement over the Hub mini. The IR blaster range is MUCH better as I have several things I control with remote functions. I just had to program the new Hub2 with the remotes and it works much more reliably. It's a little pricey but worth the upgrade if your using IR routines as I do. All my other switchbot devices showed right up with no issues.
Home assistant does support matter, so it will be interesting to see what it can see and control. I haven't got round to testing that yet, but it should at least have some functionality as time goes on!

I got excited by "light switch", thinking this was something that could replace my Hueeeerrghhh dimmers covering my traditional light switches. The idea that every lighy switch in every room could be a local hub for humidity/temperature and be a hub for devices in that room is something I would really go for...
Thanks for the entertaining and useful vids! Looks like an interesting product, wish I would have viewed this while the discount was active, but it was inexpensive enough as is. I did use your affiliate link and ordered a few other things I needed, so I hope that helps ya out. Please keep up the amazing work!

Update : Just received my Hub 2 and Hubitat C8 pro. After about 3 hours of setting up everything and veryfying that all works as intended, I am happy to say the Matter pairing of the hub in Hubitat was a breathe. All my Switchbot things were created : Humidifier, Blind Tilts, Meters and so on. I dont use any Bots as they are very bizare to me. But anyway, I finally emptied my Smart Things hub of everything, unplugged it and threw it back in a drawer, where it belongs ! I now have only Hubitat and Mrs A integration with it, and everything works just great, with the automations power of Hubitat ! Took me a few months and quiet some trial and errors, but now I can finally say I DO have an automated home ! Thanks to you, to Brian and a few others for showing me all these good things !
Matter-capable hub, IR-capable, Temp & Humidity-sensing... Oh, and it's a light switch: Very nice. I'm definitely in for the whole video. I really like seeing some of the "extra" sensors cooked into products like this. That way I don't need some dedicated thermometer, hygrometer, or (really important here) light sensor. Housing the thermometer/hygrometer in the cable is a really good touch, getting it away from the hub. You only have to be careful to leave it out in the open so it's not sitting next to a radiator or some such. "Matter problems": This seems to be _the_ recurring theme with Matter at present, as constant as the mantra that they'll undoubtedly get that fixed eventually. I love being an unpaid beta-tester. It's good that you can work around them, but I'm really getting tired of hearing how not-yet-ready Matter is. (That's not to say "Don't tell me." Please continue to inform us about these issues.) Delay in scene activation: That's unfortunate. One of the big sale-points of Matter is local control for fast response. 3 seconds isn't fast. Once again, a great review of a compelling product. Thanks. See you next week.
So if i have a switchbot bluetooth temp/humidity sensor, can i trigger animations/scenes/routines with it via switchbot hub 2 & homekit? or just the local temp/humidity readings from the Hub 2’s cable?

You could plug an flirc adapter into the USB port of the xgimi and use an old tv remote to control the flirc to turn the projector on, and then train the Switchbot hub with the old TV remote
No word of a lie, this thought occurred whilst we were out there and although I'm pretty sure I can't write any worthwhile amount of this holiday off I had a lengthy discussion with Neesha about starting a second channel that was a travel show where we would go to posh restaraunts and review super posh food as a pair of complete dullards. Hej Paul. Do you know if there’s a way to IR devices like BenQ projectors which are needed to have pressed twice in order to turn them off by the same one off button? It would be nice ti make an automation or a scene to turn off a projector and roll blinds up after watching a film (of course if the hub can handle IR double press off button to shut projector down). I know it’s possible on BroadLink by coding it on homebridge and all but I hopefully wish this hub could make it much easier. And yes you’re right. I’m exposed to HomeKit ecosystem and since matter is in play…. Is it possible with the IR control for turning projector off?
If your devices are capable of HDMI-CEC then you could have the projector turn on and off when the signal disappears. I do exactly this... The Nvidia shield is turned off with the remote, and the projector automatically turns off. Can't remember if I enabled this on the projector, the nvidia shield or both. The nvidia shield isn't designed to turn off using Infrared either BUT, you can add an FLIRC USB infrared receiver to the nvidia shield and program any old infrared remote to turn it on and off. If your projector is android TV then you might be able to plug the flirc into the projector and control it with any inrmfrared remote too! I used to have an flirc plugged into my projector, and was able to control it with an old TV remote I had kicking around. I only moved away from this because I wanted the nvidia shield to act as my android box.
I assumed you would be able to, but I've just tried it and can't see it as a trigger. 🤔 Which makes no sense to me because Alexa does discover it using the Alexa skill and can tell you the temperature under devices, so god knows why amazon haven't them allowed us to make routines off the back of those temperatures! 🤷

Hey Paul, I’m still using broadlink light switches, do you have any hubs to recommend controlling them other than the broadlink branded ones? Much appreciated!
I THINK the home assistant integration would do it. Definitely worth looking into as the other broadlink stuff I'm using (WiFi plug sockets) is controlled locally through home assistant and works really well!
would be a lot better if it was a Dual band so i wouldnt have to fight to grt the 2.4ghz, before long there may not be a 2.4 anymore the way things are going🤔
My only complaint with the hub 2 is the price….takes deep breath….it’s more expensive than the Hue Hub 😱. Sure it has lots more features but if this hub is to replace the mini, it’s vastly overpriced. If there is to be a mini 2 with matter but none of the other bells and whistles (IR excluded) at a better price that’s fine. It’s a lovely device but if this is to be the main hub, someone got carried away with themselves.

@@paulhibbert Heath Robinson as in cobbled together from bits and pieces of junk and other items an elaborate process for a simple idea is going a bit far, it's a smart looking piece of kit and likely one day soon it will be perfected and much wanted. I predict one day all buildings will have light switches, no no I'm serious. And doors will have handles, some of them anyway. But windows are just a fantasy. 🗣️ " I HAVE SPOKEN !!! "
Not trying to be offensive, just offering an opinion - I'm a long time watcher (one of the few to defend you on the hubitat forums back in the day!) and this feels more like an advert than a review. The only definitive in this was the physical form factor, most of the rest of your commentary seemed to consist of this will be great when it's out of beta. Sadly, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's been burned by companies releasing things that are never actually finished. Matter isn't fully supported, homekit lacks some fairly important functionality (no blame, don't care which side the problem is) and there are other issues mentioned. Dunno, just seems like a bad move to me to offer something so compromised for review before the final release is ready. Eh. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy. Time was a beta test was for solving problems, not monitoring complaints and fixing whatever caused the biggest fan outrage in the retail sector 😂
You must be joking? Because I offered my honest opinion about the current limitations it sounded like an advert?? What adverts have you ever watched that offered up a products limitations?
I totally agree with you. I also got a bunch of product from Switchbot included the hub2 to review but the hub has been full of SOOO many issues that I can't bring my self to make a video about it yet -doesnt work with smartthings hub even though my hub keeps wanting to pair, the hub keeps forgetting my wif and I have to ckeep reconnecting it everyday. I certainly won't recommend it to anyone as of right now. Same with the Aqara G4 door - it is soo bugy and unusable and I am wondering if my unit are just outright bad.
It's like a fully paid review. I think matter itself do not support IR yet so no surprise, but beside that it's also crap. Delay excludes it as smart button, because to be switch it would need to have relay and connect AC wires. It's chunky to be only temp/hum sensor. Sorry but looks like useless device, no room for any hope to use this in home assistant. But from other side vid is entertaining.
This"useless device" has an infrared blaster, a temperature and humidity sensor, a light sensor, and two buttons on it. It connects a huge range of Switchbot Bluetooth products to Alexa, Google Home, Ifttt and Siri shortcuts and is a game changer to anyone currently using the Switchbot ecosystem as their primary trigger for routines. The matter functionality is a bonus that makes it future proof.

OMG! I totally thought it was just me. I have recreated my wifi on so many wifi ap for the past 2 weeks getting the damn. hub to stay connected.
@@TyDaSpace Have read that changing the channel from smart to channel 6 on the router has had success for some people 👍🏼
@@alanmarshall101 I just switched mine to 6. I'll let you know how it holds up
@TyDa Space - fingers crossed
@@alanmarshall101 it didn’t work. I’m in contact with support. I created a deducted 2.4Ghz with WPA2 only and on the 6 channel. No dice.
The only bad thing is that the light sensor won't show Un Google home or Alexa
Hey Paul, I’m still using broadlink light switches, do you have any hubs to recommend controlling them other than the broadlink branded ones? Much appreciated!
I THINK the home assistant integration would do it. Definitely worth looking into as the other broadlink stuff I'm using (WiFi plug sockets) is controlled locally through home assistant and works really well!
Now we call remote controls "Switches"?
would be a lot better if it was a Dual band so i wouldnt have to fight to grt the 2.4ghz, before long there may not be a 2.4 anymore the way things are going🤔
8:18 i've done that lol. haha 😂.
It hurt me more than it hurt Google! 🤣
Thx. Priced too high even with such features.
I use an RM mini to control my air-conditioning. I just tell it it's a TV.
Your videos remind me of Kenny Everett.
😂 haha 8:14 was on point!
I genuinely injuslred my hand! I had to go tell Neesha that I'd given myself a boo boo. 🤣
For your information Paul, my genitals are not matter or homekit compatible. They can only be turned on by Alexa. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Wait that doesn’t sound right. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Mine extend to all 3. 😬
@@paulhibbert Show off, are your goolies google compatible? 😂🤣😂🤣
You need to do matter compatible marital toys (dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, iron, cooker, hoover, etc, etc, etc). 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Did I bate you in, did I bate the master, did I master the master ba…………………………………………😂🤣😂🤣
Please, they're called googlies. 🤣

Hygrometer aka υγρόμετρο. Greek word meaning moisture sensor.
While I'm disappointed we weren't baited... Which I suppose I atleast am every time I watch this... Anyway...
I just wanted to say that I appreciate everything you put in your videos, and when I say everything, I'm specifically referring to the little mess ups and the witty commentary on those moments. If your videos didn't include all those little moments and little characters, I don't think I'd be as much of a fan.
I love your thought process and your content, keep on doing it cause you're fucking awesome. It's like seeing how I think in a video without any of the effort. 🥰 Have a great weekend!
Edit: 😑 Your Darth Vader is much more like CP30... 😅
I like this a lot though it's too expensive for me to justify.
Still waiting for my flic..
You leave me laughing every time.
Home Assistant!
Nice :)
Device Limits Matter!
🤣
Alright... I have hubs of all sorts, and they all are useless. Is the the hub To rule them all? Is this the ecosystem that I need and is future proof?🎉
This hub is amazing but it is still very ecosystem specific unfortunately. Home assistant is the only answer to get everything together and even then it will still involve probably keeping SOME of the hubs
One year later and Switchbot still has terrible lag time.
I feel attacked @0:23!!! * UNSUBSCRIBE * 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can turn the light on in the future?! This way I’ll always be first
You're always first In my eyes, I've heard lots of ladies say you always come first too. Not sure what they mean by that? 😘 Xxx

Egad. 41 you look older. 😁
WANT!
FYI, This video fixes broken genitals. Not the SwitchBot hub, exactly, more the Bezos impression.
Let's be clear, this is an American unit so you are beta testing it, not beetah testing it.
Could do without all the embellishments
Yes, Paul, yes! The master!
... Of bait.
Hmmm another vid where you forget "in every video from now on I'll discuss Home Assistant compatibility". Buck up otherwise Mr Socky will be wanting 'a stern word' with you
Well I've got to admit I'm not sold on this switchbot device. You can put lipstick on a pig , but it doesn't make it pretty, it's still a pig . I enjoy your videos, and look forward to them. But I see this device as a pig one to avoid. I got to admit switchbot devices are a bit Heath Robinson and over priced
I have no idea what you mean. 🤔 You mean physically unattractive??
@@paulhibbert
Heath Robinson as in cobbled together from bits and pieces of junk and other items an elaborate process for a simple idea is going a bit far, it's a smart looking piece of kit and likely one day soon it will be perfected and much wanted. I like the infra red blaster it saves on WiFi plugs. Which Hue are £30 and upwards.
A light switch... How new.
I think it's a little bit more than that 🤔
@@paulhibberthaha yeah it is for sure. I was just being a dick 😘
1000% Agreed! You took the words right out of my mouth. And yes I’m old and Grumpy.
Darth3-PO
wish people would stop using that Iphone ding. bloody annoying
this switch is sick
@paulhibbert can this be used as a replacement for a Broadlink Mini?
Yes! I've just tested it for you by adding an air conditioner to the Switchbot app and it appears as a device in Alexa using the Alexa skill. 😁
I was very disappointed in this video. I was not bated by the master...
Your long suffering, out of your league, wife must hate you constantly recording bits of crap for us. We love it of course, but poor her.
