Paul I’ve recently imported a bond bridge from the states. I can now control all my RF items like somfy roller shades, fireplace, electric gates etc making all dumb to smart with Alexa / google or Siri. Pretty cool stuff
@@LeePorte Never mind the cat, imagine if that thing finds it way into the washing machine! It will be the only time I'm praying a device doesn't have an IP rating.
I bought the original cube couple years ago, but never found any use for it... I'm maybe old fashioned, but for me it's better just to have 6 buttons with single press/double press... I don't fancy remembering which move does what :)
We solved this for our kids by labelling each side with stickers and implementing a “help” feature where the echo device in the room will remind you of the gestures for the given side when you shake the cube.
Excellent little device. Enjoyed the video and the outtakes as always. You never disappoint. All the best for the New Year Paul and Neesha. Stay safe and warm.
the only big difference from the old one is that the tap action needs to be done by tapping the cube to a flat surface but the new on can trigger tap action by just tapping the cube it self. other than thread/matter support, the new cube doesnt differ much with the old one. maybe the older is going to a bit cheaper now. as for alexa and homekit support, the new cube is the obvious choice here, but if your going to pair it with home assistant even the old one can trigger alexa/homekit automation/scenes.
Have to admit the Aqara stuff is awesome, having bought so much stuff Paul has mentioned (zemismart hub’s, conbee sticks, switchbot button robots etc etc) I finally decided to switch to Aqara with their light switches (thanks again Paul! - the missus hates you lol) and am now selling up all my other things as being Paul’s no.1 Apple HomeKit fanboy - I use HomeKit only!! I’m sure this is why he specifically mentions if it works with HomeKit… for me 😍 Anyway, have a great new year everyone - looking forward to hopefully getting the Aqara FP1 in the Uk in 2023
Got mine two days ago and I can't stop thinking of ways to use it! So many things! I found it while researching but if anyone sees this and had the same problem I did, when you get it added to Home Assistant if it does not have all the conditions available (sides, slides, twists, knocks, socks, rocks, blocks and co....ooler things) hit the pairing button next to the battery five times. I did everything you could think of, found that in a forum and it immediately 'unlocked' everything in Home Assistant. Except the battery... Still can't get it to return battery percentage.
This looks amazing! The only issue I have is remembering all the different states of the cube I configure to perform a routine. Seems to be something that will make my life harder NOT easier.
So I have the original cube but using it with zibgee2mqtt and the cube itself is quite aware of what side it's on etc, in fact it remembers what side it came from and also has detection for turn, slide so for anyone not invested in the alexa/cloud nonsense the older model might well be a good value pickup right now.
Id actually be quite interested to see the resulting payloads from both devices side by side because it does rather sound like the actual difference is in the app rather than the device, add that to the lottery list to investigate :D
There’s small battery powered Bluetooth thermal printers by Phomemo that print little waterproof(ish) self-adhesive labels that would be perfect for this. I use one (Q31) for button labels on scene switchers and the like. £25 on Amazon at the time of writing.
@@HicSvntDracones sometimes it’s quicker to push a button than say “alexa turn on this thing” and sometimes you don’t want to use your mouth hole like if your partner is asleep next to you.
Really considering this cube, but a couple questions... 1) Is there any advantage to the M2 hub over the E1 USB stick hub? (Only want to use with alexa routines, no use for IR) 2) Looked like rotate also worked in scene mode, so could it dim non aqara lights through alexa... such as govee or hue 🤢)? Thanks
Amazingly clever device. Don't think I'll be carrying it around from room to room though that would be tantamount to just using the switch on the wall etc. Clever solution for problems that don't exist I'm afraid
I use it with ZHA and it works great! We just got two of the older cube models for our kids this Christmas and the kids love them! Each face of the cube is dedicated to a different device / function, so they can control their light switch (on / off), lamp (on/ off, brightness, colour), fan (on / off), Echo Dot (play / pause, volume, next track), TV (on / off, volume), and use it as a general purpose media / skill / scene selector across their devices.
What you haven't said is that a Zigbee Gateway and Home Assistant can make all of the different activation motions available, even with the original Cube. At about $4 less then the Pro, Home Assistant geeks (yeah, you have to be pretty fluent in HA to program this) can get all the functionality of the new cube, in both modes, and even more besides.
I wonder if it's because this video is sponsored by them, they might have made it a condition that Paul does not to show it in Home Assistant as they don't officially support it..... that and they want you to buy a hub
I don't get it. If it supports matter, why does it need a hub? Should smart things or a modern echo dot, etc all work as a hub? If not, what is the point of matter support?

Hi Paul. Happy New Year, qq - the E1 negates the need for the M2 or M1 as a smart home hub, simple plug in the E1 configure it and form there any zigbee 3.0 device can be added? Of course those where the implementation of the protocol is the same „standard“

Yes, some. Not all the more esoteric functions are available outside the Aqara app. For some strange reason Aqara only enable their app to do/sense certan things. A bit like HA being able to set the light colour/brilliancd on the Aqara M1S hub but not command it to make a sound (same sound limitation on the G3 Hub) when used with HA or Home.
I think when I move I'll get one for the spare room, with custom stickers, so guests can operate things without speaking to Siri. I'm moving a couple of hours away so will have guests stay more often than here. My Mum will probably be my most frequent guest and she really doesn't want to talk to Siri. She thinks what I'm doing is hilarious, but doesn't want to interact with it. I was planning to get a wireless switch but the cube would be much more fun.

How well built is this thing? One of my first thoughts was using it as a literal dice for games and such.. could it be dropped and rolled onto a carpet for example?
Good videos!. I have the old version working with the xiaomi Mi home hub, this new version will also work with that hub?, or now only with the hub of Aqara?, thanks!
Stu was actually uncorking a bottle of 16yr old Lagavulin single malt whisky, the absolute king of whiskys. (I know he was drinking wine, but he is also a whisky fan 🙂)
How did you know what I bought myself for Christmas? You're always right on time. And you saved me, it didn't occur to me that the numbers were off by one, now it works! But what are these mythical Aqara light bulbs that you're talking about? I see them on AliExpress, but are they not available in the US? I don't even see them in the Aqara app to add.
Hello - Love your videos. Did you try to integrate the Aqara Cube T1 Pro (actual model) into home assistant using zigbee2mqtt? Without the aqara hub? I am not able to install it and only get error messages when i try to pair it. I use the sonoff USB Pro which i flashed with the lates version of ZIGBEE2MQTT. Everything seems to work except the aqara Cube. Other aqara products like sensors etc. work fine. Please let me know. Chris
Was really hoping the first gen cube was going to sit on my coffee table, and do all this. But it just ended up in a box under the bed. Guess it just wasn't there yet. Time to upgrade.
hey hi, thanks for your content, I was wondering if you could update the video about the unofficial YT skill for Echo DOT¿? apparently it isn't working anymore due to heroku new limitations
Hi Paul, I may just have to unsubscribe to see more of Stu. 😂 Great video! Loved seeing Will Smith and Kevin Hart getting repeatedly slapped to the rhythm of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. I almost fell off my stool on the Virgin Scarlet Lady. Happy New Year to you and your lovely wife! PS Did you know that “innuendo” is the Italian word for “suppository”? 😂
I might have to finally pull the trigger and grab one of these.... And then see what kind of chaos I can cause with this on Home Assistant and Alexa. Because I'm a home automation Bond villain.
Thanks for the cool video. I can’t find the Aqara home for EU skill in Alexa. Only the Aqara for US servers is shown, which is why Aqara and Alexa do not work together in Europe. How did you manage to enable the skill?
If you're using the US locale for Alexa then you just need to re-set up the Aqara app using the US locale. If you sign out of the Aqara app then when you go to sign in again you'll find you can change locale at the top right of the screen
Have kitbashed a smartlife/hubitat zigbee temperature/humidity sensor. Take one WiFi smartlife t/h/l sensor with screen and a zigbee t/h sensor without screen and attach the second to the first - and done. There is a slight difference in reading, but the ex smartlife zigbee sensor is surprisingly more accurate.. If I was more skilled I'd combine them in the same case... And pull power from the USB for both.
Fantastic idea, but unfortunately not something I could ever use, as we have (several) cats. And I'd hate to think what kind of chaos would be caused by this cube being batted around the desk, floor and stairs by a bored kitty.
Great vid as usual, Paul. My issue with this would be remembering which action does what. Even after a couple of years, my wife doesn't always get the voice command syntax right, so gets annoyed. I can't imagine what things she will do by doing some action incorrectly, and say, setting the oven to 250 (Gas Mark 6 in old money) when she meant to open the blinds.
We solved this for our kids by labelling each side with stickers and implementing a “help” feature where the echo device in the room will remind you of the gestures for the given side when you shake the cube.
Paul, I'm being a bit dumb here. I'm not sure what I am looking for re: "AQARA ZIGBEE 3.0 HUB" Everything appears to require this wonderful device, but I can't find one on Amazon. I use smart Life and also Alexa currently for my home automation.
Bought v1, ended up using node-red to listen to the zigbee events, parsing it out to get more events. Ended up using rfid tags as a far simpler solution rather then keeping track of the cube. I would bump the queue from time, making rfid tags that I can scan a better solution for myself. I wander what the raw zigbee events look like for the pro version or if the selling point of pro is the app and integrations such as matter. The cube is a fun mini party trick, though the novelty wore off quickly for me. Still recommend if your curious about it, though starting with only buying one would be good so you know if it meets your needs before getting a second one.
*** PLEASE ANSWER *** The Aqara Cube T1 Pro can now control Alexa Routine and is a Matter Device. Since, now Alexa supports Matter Compatible devices. Is it possible to connect the Cube with Alexa and Control Alexa Routines WITHOUT HAVING THE AQARA HUB. Or the hub is still required and mandatory??
As far as I understand it the cube is still using zigbee. The hub will actually have matter, but Aqara have confirmed that this cube will have the relevant firmware to communicate with matter products via the hub. That's how I understand it anyway. So yes, the hub is still required.
Happy New year to you and your family. Thank you for all the content you both made over the years. I've seen you grow, and I really like the way you approach everything with humor. I saw you have a Homey (Pro nowadays), is there an reason you shun this device? As it can do a whole bunch of things since Advanced Flows was added last year. It can measure up to a lot other competitors. I'm really looking forward on your opinion of this device. PS, English is not my primary language, excuse the bad grammar.
I know you are sponsored by Aqara, viewers would like know, does it work with Tuya/Smart life, as the app looks the same and it's ZigBee 3. Probably, Aqara would sell more device's, if they knew they where compatible with the biggest smart manufacturers Tuya.
I like this but wish it was cheaper. Aqara would have sold a ton along with devices. Thank you Paul, and Happy New Year to you, the Mrs, and Mr. Socky. Also, successfully subscribed to Stu's Reviews. l kid. But seriously. I kid, I'm subbed to both of you. I also feel there's a Hellraiser cube joke missing here.
Interesting... Hope the tech has other applications... Seems like a super optional fun gadget that will have limited sales.... Or am I missing something? But I guess if you can flip to a numbered side and dial that specific device (light, curtain) then ... Maybe that's when it gets useful.... To control blinds and lights and stuff with the dial feature

Love Aqara and will be using them heavily in my new smart home. This gadget is cool and all ... but WHY ?? 🙂 I can't really think of a solid solid killer use case. So if I program all the faces to turn stuff ON, I should really program half of the sides to turn stuff OFF right ?? besides that, anything not stuck to a wall is gonna get lost in my house. I'm happy to hear from people who've found an awesome use case for this thing other than being "nerdy cool". 🙂

Pro tip: do not confuse for fidget spinner. I mistakenly did this last week and we still haven't found all of the cat or the robovac.
Happy new year Paul. Look forward to seeing all your crazy vids this year
How well built is this thing?
One of my first thoughts was using it as a literal dice for games and such.. could it be dropped and rolled onto a carpet for example?
Good videos!. I have the old version working with the xiaomi Mi home hub, this new version will also work with that hub?, or now only with the hub of Aqara?, thanks!
Stu was actually uncorking a bottle of 16yr old Lagavulin single malt whisky, the absolute king of whiskys. (I know he was drinking wine, but he is also a whisky fan 🙂)
I’ve mentioned this on Brian’s channel before but you could program this to make some sort of interactive game
Oh thanks Paul, needed summat to spend all these Christmas amazon vouchers on 😁hope you and Neesha have a grest new year buddy 🍾🍷🍺🍻
You are obsessed with these toys. Like, utterly, madly, insane.
Chris
Loved the review, already purchased mine thru your link!
I wish Aqara H1 wall light switches could trigger Alexa routines. Apparently Amazon have blocked that for some reason.
Happy New Year Paul!
if that falls from the table, or from a stair, you'll get a house doomed, and a free song by Billy Idol: "rebel yell" :D
I seen these happen on other group. They said, their cat play this thing and make the house play on/off the light like disco party 😂
Toss the cube down the stairs and you have a rave going on 😂
Looks good, Paul
Thank you Paul.
Hi Paul,
I may just have to unsubscribe to see more of Stu.
Great new review of a sweet little gadget for the New Year!
Seems like a super fun gimmick. Can just imagine the chaos my kids or cats could cause tho. Not to mention me reminding what does what 🤣
I might have to finally pull the trigger and grab one of these....
Interesting product. I love Aqara and have loads of their blind motors.
Nice was starting to think your room was just a greenscreen image. You proved me wrong.
How do you get this into Home assistant? I already have a Aqara E1 hub that works but the cube doesn´t show up like the rest of the Aqara contacts
Sorry what?🤯
I love Aqara I just did my new house almost all Aqara stuff
What does it do when you flush it down the loo. Maybe they could put 9 coloured stickers on each side of it.
Did you not hear him say, to get stickers printed and gave a link to where you can get it done.
Put images on the cube
We solved this for our kids by labelling each side with stickers and implementing a “help” feature where the echo device in the room will remind you of the gestures for the given side when you shake the cube.
@@MichaelTrites you are a genius they need to implement the help feature into the cube itself
@@MichaelTrites What a great idea!
Geo-fencing would be a good think to add, so it can do different things in different rooms.
Paul, I'm being a bit dumb here. I'm not sure what I am looking for re: "AQARA ZIGBEE 3.0 HUB" Everything appears to require this wonderful device, but I can't find one on Amazon. I use smart Life and also Alexa currently for my home automation.
If you want a hub then buy an Aqara device with a built-in hub such as the Aqara 2K Security Indoor Camera Hub G3 or a the Aqara Smart Hub E1
Is that you singing in the song that plays in the first auto??
I've had this for years I love AQARA products great system
You're f*****g crazy...and i love it 🙈🙉🙊
Is that a mini Orange amp? Is it the Terror?
So how long until some starts building dice games using it?
@Paul Hibbert, Thank you for the response, I get it :-|
Paired with my alexa app successfully, but it has added 6 devices all called "cube T1 Pro".
No idea which trigger is which! Super annoying.
Hmm, so a smart die? What happens if you roll it?
Would certainly make board game night a different experience!
@@MichaelTrites thanks for clarification. Does more than I realized
@@l0gic23 I know Paul only highlighted the capabilities when using the Aqara hub and Alexa, but with Home Assistant, the options are pretty limitless.

Is this like that Broadlink Bluetooth switch that would trigger Alexa routines, which it didn’t and you apologised for. Hopefully you have tested in before recommending it this time
