Nice video and I take my hat off to you: setting up the camera and going all the way back to get it so many times even though the hills were so hard. You get a gold star for that!
Hi Waddo, Great to hear from you! It was a long way up (in hours ;.) so we had some time to get a few shots in. Being with the three of us also helped us filming each other. Thanks and Tailwinds
Hi Eric! You must have had crazy mud encounters on your adventures too. There is nothing quite like being stuck in the mud. In hindsight we can say it was totally worth it but when your doing it 😬 Haha! Thanks and tailwinds!!
He Guys! It was a tough one and surely one of the most memorable 😄 Thanks for your encouragement! Nice to know we are not the only ones getting dirty 😉
Well done. I can say without a shadow of a doubt, none of you are quitters. Your stamina and endurance is amazing. Stay healthy. May God Bless that man who helped you. May he too be helped one day. 😊
Hi 😊 Thanks so much! It can be difficult sometimes we have to say and thoughts of quitting enter the mind. Raymond is such a genuine gentleman and an all around inspirational person. We feel blessed to have met him 🙏🏼
Thank you for your videos. In these times of semi confinement and uncertainties it is such a treat to be able to "travel" through your adventures. I am randomly seeing your recent postings as well as your old ones. One suggestion if I may: please, mention which country you are in at the beginning of each vlog so we can situate you better. I am partly through the "muddiest bike ride/crawl" I have seen and I still don't know where in the world you had to go through that. Thanks.
Oh I remember, when I have to go through the mud with my motorcycle :D 1:29 and muddy track up at 2:24, after I have passed it, I thought that it was a mistake to leave the main route.
Just came across your channel yesterday and I’m glad I stumbled upon it! Great adventures in tough conditions teaches you a lot about the human condition. I hope one day I can convince my husband to do this!
Hi Joy! You get to know yourself and a your partner a little beter ;.) Of course it is not about being tough all the time. It took quite some years before this came into a reality so keep marinating your husband with that thought 👍🏼 All the Best
Absolutely amazing guys, you sure have no idea what the day, has is store for you both, the effort and hard slog to get your bikes out of the, mud must of been demoralising, you are both having an adventure that's for sure.
Hi Mike! Great to hear from you. Demoralising is the right word, haha. It was tough and adventurous. Looking back we wouldn't want to have it any other way 😉
@@WheelstoWander No, I followed the normal route. The weather was dry almost the whole way. Not until after crossing the border near Sary Tash,. It then got snowy and muddy. But no where near the insane muddy condition you had. When I saw you crossing the stream, I think,"What is that?". I started riding at 6:30 in the morning. And arrived at the "bus stop" at about 11:00. And then three hours downhill to Qalai Khumb. It's one long hard climb.
What else can I say... You two are "BAD ASS". Keeping a positive mental attitude and losing the fenders in the mud will help. I would welcome the opportunity to host you through warm showers if you take a northern route through the USA. Tailwinds

This is a dream to travel on the bike full of all the important things I need in my life as a business owner I feel stuck and confused but this is so quickly gonna come into my life. Love it looking forward to following you on Patreon guys.
My worst time with my bike was in the mountains between Dominican republic and Haiti. From that moment on, I decided to stick on paved road only when I have my luggages on. That's what I've been doing ever since.
The same thing happened to me once I went on a freshly cut route during the rainy season on my bike . The front tire would not move a bit, it was like a brake and I would fall off if I give throttle to move forward. All I have to do was stop every few metres to clean the mud stuck inside the mudguards. I could see what it would be like pushing the bike with all your things on it. But you've done it👍
I thought you might have run into Heinz Stück, but then realized he is actually a 10 yr older than the cyclist you mentioned. Anyway, I love your videos, thanks a lot for sharing & I hope you enjoy the rest of your journey!
@@WheelstoWander I listened to an interview with him from back in 2018 and he still had plans to ride, but I don't know what he is up to now. He is an inspiration and I hope he is still on the road!
Hi Khaled! There is so much to like: Incredible views, wonderful people, unspoiled natural areas, solitude, etc. It's hard at times but the rewards are immense 👌🏼
Er was inderdaad een aardverschuiving geweest. Achteraf hadden we er makkelijk over heen gekund met wat sjouw werk. Veel makkelijker dan dit modderbad ;) Dank & Groet
This sounds crazy, but it worked for me: When you see that you are approaching some insane mud like you did at 3:43, smear your brake mechanisms (not the pads) and the insides of your racks and fender supports with petroleum jelly. When the mud was semi-dry, it just peeled right off. And you can buy petroleum jelly just about anywhere. Live the adventure. Godspeed.
Hi Rick! That is a crazy idea, I love it! We are going to try that with fixin' wax we made. I think that might work the same. If it doesn't we'll buy a jar of petroleum jelly 😉 Thanks, cool tip!

How do you guys make money to fund your Adventures cuz there awesome... And i would love to do this as well but always thought it impossible with out an income.
Hi Rob! We had some savings and worked for 1.5 years to save up for this adventure. Nowadays we also earn some money through our Patreon page and google advertisement. You don't need a lot of money to go on a bicycle tour (depending on the country and your style of traveling)... You could also look into documenting your trip and sharing tips & tricks online to sustain yourself when out on the road... it takes a little time and determination to really set something up but the work you put into it pays off in the long run.

Hi, me again (just left a comment on your previous episode, number 36), and now I just wanted to comment on something I had noticed already in the other videos but in this episode (37) it became clearer, namely in minute 1:00 as you are cycling... not sure if both of you do this, but it seems your seat is too low. For optimal efficiency, when you pedal all the way down, your knee should be almost fully stretched out (not quite all the way, but 90%?) but it seems you have a big angle there as you reach the end and are coming back up with the pedal. See what I mean? Just a thought/observation. I mean, usually the problem with this (low position on the seat) is that your knees end up searching for an "escape" space, and that is away from the bike, so you develop knee problems. Someday I hope to do the Pamir Highway, too... wish I had a partner like you guys!
Hi Ignacio! We didn't have any problems with our position (knee/back) though sometimes the screw of our saddle was a little loose and the saddle sank down. We mostly position our saddle so that our feet just touches the ground :-) Do you plan for a new big tour when the current situation of the world calms down?
So I'll add my little bit Ignacio. First of all, whatever works for you guys, works! Seat position is important though and could cause long term injuries. You've been biking for some time so chances are that all is good. The best (which I can't afford) is to get a custom built bike. There is lots to look at. However, if you are buying a standard size from the store you can examine the stem and the saddle height. Touching the ground should have nothing to do with it...unless you want a bike where your feet touch the ground and you are more worried about touching the ground than pedaling. On my bikes, I can touch the ground with the end of my toes but I am in a very vulnerable position with little or no balance. I learned that to test saddle height, you should put your heels on the pedals and then pedal. Your hips should not swoop down to pedal at the bottom of the stroke. There should be the slightest of kinks in the leg. A micro kink that permits your hips to remain on the saddle with dipping from one side to another. Once that is established, you go to a regular position on the pedal with the ball of your foot centered on the pedal.
I wondered how long it would take for the wet blanket to show up. Funny how you'll go to a theater and pay to see a movie, but if some little guy goes to no little expense with camera gear, editing time, computer connections and creative content, for some reason, you think that he should beg you to enjoy it for free. Nobody is twisting anybody's arm to be a patron. You've probably got the first nickel you ever got your hands on. Live well, Your Highness.
Mud is one of the greatest nemesis on our bike tour! Any tips to avoid getting stuck, reduce the buildup and cleaning the bikes are welcome? Thanks!
exactly
Trim the mudguards to be closest at the 'leading edge' relative to the tyres revolution, to avoid the wedging affect of the mud ;)
Ha, one more that doesn't like mud 😉
For sure have big gaps ' it will eventually build up ' probably clean regularly 'and do longer videos ' i here that helps the most lol .
better without mudguards!
