Hey you two! Just found you on here- can't believe it, I made the same bike ride two years ago! Maps.me said it was a secondary road (which I suppose it is).. Had to camp just beyond the splinter bridge, luckily found a spring at the peak for water. Saw nobody! Was not as loaded as you, camping stuff and a guitar- no food. Not sure if I would recommend that route, but it was the best part of my Lao trip!
Hi Nealvagamundo. That's so cool! There was hardly a soul there when we drove through it as well. It was our best cycling stretch in Laos too. Would recommend it to anybody with enough resourcefulness and experience 👍🏼

Hey you guys I have to say you have my utmost admiration and deep respect. I have watched all 55 vlogs in 5 days and its been both epic and emotional. There were days there when it was so tough for you both it hurt me to watch but you were so positive and full of joy at the world. Having spent a lifetime travelling I know that it is a huge education and such a power for personal growth and change. I wish you both well, stay safe and I look forward to the next installment. Hi Paul, traveling is certainly a life changing experience, the best education you can get!? Did you document your journey somewhere? Thank you for the wonderful words! 🙏 All the Best, E&M
@@WheelstoWander Hi Guys - at 17 I made my 1st journey overland to Afghanistan, Nepal and India in 1969. I walked and hitchhiked and took local buses and trains for 18 months. I came into an inheritance on my return and studied tunnel engineering. Got my 1st job as an engineer in 1975 and have lived and worked until today building tunnels. I have worked on every continent except Antarctica, I have worked in 47 countries for anything from 6 months to 2 years, I have traveled to 94 countries in total. I am still travelling for 6 months a year and doing short contracts of 2 to 3 months to finance my travels. I spend the autumn each year at home in Catalunya about 160 kms south of Barcelona. For the most part I still backpack. At the end of each contract I tried to spend 2 to 3 months exploring the country I had just been working in. I stand by the "best" education statement - clearly you can get an education about a specific subject in a university for instance but there is not an educational establishment anywhere that can teach you about yourself, life, other cultures like traveling. Stay safe and stay well. Paul.
I just find this video and I stop at 4.30 and decided to go all the way to your first video. If you guys ever visit Bandung, Indonesia, I would be honor to ride a few kilometers to the next town with you guys..
So glad I found this channel, amazing travels and so inspiring! I was very ready to take a break from work and be a bike pilgrim on the Shikoku Henro in Japan; but Covid happened :( I'll get there once I can! I'm curious, Eric, did you get some of those "indestructible shoes" when you reached Thailand? I've been looking at the various versions available on aliexpress and wondering how they would be for biking. Thanks! Happy pedaling!
Hi Matt! We have been to Shikoku and it is magnificent :) If after Covid you are still planning to go we wish you a wonderful time there! Yes, I got a pair of those shoes. They are on the heavy side because of the steel toe but surprisingly flexible what makes walking feel more like a sneaker than a safety shoe. They held up nicely in the dry weather of South East Asia and had good grip on my flat pedals. For hiking I found them to be slippery on smooth surfaces and a bit tiring because of the weight.
@Wheels to Wander Question, if both of you can go back, are you guys still what to use the same bike or different bike? The reason I ask because I'm into road bike and MTB but now I want to get into touring. But still don't know should I get a gravel bike or adventure bike or touring bike. Thank you!

Also, what route did you take from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang? I came that way 1.5 weeks ago but was lucky to get a lift. The mountains in between must be grueling on a bicycle!?
Hi Fritz! Laos is one of our favourite countries for cycling. Stunning is the right word! How are you doing there during these times? We always wonder how it's like being stuck in South East Asia somewhere? We took the Vang Vieng, Kasi, Phou Khoun route to Luang Prabang. Perfect example why bikepacking is catching on .. those trails are perfect for bikepacking setup .. i did 2500 km of those trails even brought a packraft .. no way would i do that in panniers no fun
Yes we are also looking for a more lightweight setup, we love riding the small backroads! But with filming also comes carrying a lot of gear. We also like the convenience of regular panniers.
The feeling you described at 7:20 is called presence. You could check out Eckhard Tolle’s book “power of now” where he explains the beauty of living in a constant state of presence. Becoming conscious. I think you’d appreciate it. Your journey is incredible, wish you guys all the best!

If you pass Kedah State in Malaysia please contact me, Have a safe trip. Hasta Luego
Went through about 5 or 6 other laos cycling videos before finding u. Best ones so far. I would still get a bit more details on daily mileage, cost and logistics. Good vibe, great image, good pace. Really useful to plan my next trip in the area (i’ve done Vn in 2020.)
Thanks! We have a stabilised lens, try to pan and tilt as smooth as we can and than use some post processing software to stabilise it even more when needed.
Hey, great videos! Hope to get to do some cycling in Laos some day! I'm assuming this is not really time, so when were you two in Thailand/Laos? Wondering if we were there cycling at the same time.
Hi Eis Vogel, we used some bike shorts in the beginning but both found them very uncomfortable. A lot of sweating... We stopped using them and created a little callus instead ;-) We also both like to blend in and feel somewhat normal...
Hi Jason, we don't know about the exact weight and as Bandy says, the weight was certainly manageable. Quite some items that we carry are large in volume, not so much in weight. We also took a lot of electronics to be able to film & edit, and we enjoyed the few comfort items that we carried. That said, we would like to downgrade for our next adventure!
Have you tried pushing with one hand on the handlebar and the other holding the back of the seat? It can be easier that way on the very steep climbs on rough roads.

I was blown away by how big Vang Vieng is now. I cycled through there in 2004 and it was probably less than a quarter that size. Unreal.

Meeting local people, make friend with them.
Learn their culture.
Simply awesome! Watching this (and all your previous videos) always puts me in a state of pleasant contemplation. Thank you as always.
Thanks 😊 That is such a wonderful compliment!! All the Best! E&M
Oh it's like the peat in Ireland except they also burn the peat 8n the fire.
Big world, deep adventure, real touch indeed. Wow !!
🙏🌞
YOUR LIFE IS SO RICH...I THINK YOU ARE THE WEALTHIEST PEOPLE OF THIS PLANET!!!
The feeling you described at 7:20 is called presence. You could check out Eckhard Tolle’s book “power of now” where he explains the beauty of living in a constant state of presence. Becoming conscious. I think you’d appreciate it. Your journey is incredible, wish you guys all the best!
Thank you for recommending Eckhard's book! We know him for quite a while and somehow never came around to reading one of his works. Thanks and all the best for you too!
want to travel to Mongolia.
Would be great some day!!
" looks like it turns into a walking trip" well, thats what the name says: Wheels To Wander!
Almost 😉 Wander (English) = to roam, Wandern (German) = to walk
Can u do a video of how you pack your bike stuff for a flight ?

Hi Muhd! We are back home because of Covid. Great to hear you are thinking about your own bike trip! Gracias and All the Best, E&M
Went through about 5 or 6 other laos cycling videos before finding u. Best ones so far. I would still get a bit more details on daily mileage, cost and logistics. Good vibe, great image, good pace. Really useful to plan my next trip in the area (i’ve done Vn in 2020.)
Thanks, we will consider that 👍🏼 All the best, E&M
Welcome to my country

Welcome to my country
😊 Thanks
That looked exhausting!! The quality of your filming is better than the professionals!!! 👌
Thank you Craig 😊 It was one of the tougher days in the trip!
Maaaaan what a content. More subs for you guys. You deserve it.
Love it...what are you using to keep your bike footage stable?
Thanks! If you can visit Laos after Covid19, it is a great place for cycling 😊 This was in december last year! All the Best
Wheels to Wander oh okay we were there in January and February! Maybe we will cross paths one day when things are safe to cycle again.
You fell because you were filming in portrait! The Gods don't like portrait either ;@)
😂 That must be why!
gosh that bridge 7:25 each step full of presence
What Computer are you using on the Trip?
I think you are carrying way too much stuff .Bikes looks very heavy .But just my2 cents ....
We are a bit heavy Piotr ;.)
C'est formidable j ai beaucoup apprécié à bientôt merci beaucoup les images sont magnifiques merci beaucoup à bientôt
🙏
I never heard you guys talking about or mentioning bicycling clothes. Did it ever cross your minds or doesn't it matter?
Hi Eis Vogel, we used some bike shorts in the beginning but both found them very uncomfortable. A lot of sweating... We stopped using them and created a little callus instead ;-) We also both like to blend in and feel somewhat normal...
OMG! How many KG do you have on your bike?
Maybe try to cut half the weight off.
Or maybe you should allow them to carry what they feel they can. They have after all managed thus far...
@@WheelstoWander cool! Still great adventure!
Intéressant
Your videos are just amazing! Thanks so much for it you two are a big inspiration! Hope to hit soon road by myself again, are you still in EU?
Thanks Oliver 😊 We are back home at the moment... Would be great to be back out again! We hope you will be rolling a.s.a.p. ! All the Best, E&M
feminists should
and do what that woman
would have in our respect
Thank you!
Do you use slider with your camera?
Have you tried pushing with one hand on the handlebar and the other holding the back of the seat? It can be easier that way on the very steep climbs on rough roads.
We tried it and it is a good technique we sometimes use. Thanks for sharing nonetheless 😊
