  • Yamaha Modx / Roland Fa / Korg Krome Sound Comparison
    My impressions:
    Ac. piano: 1 Roland 2 Yamaha 3 Korg (very bad)
    Rhodes: 1 Yamaha 2 Korg 3 Roland (very bad)
    Fm piano: 1 Yamaha. No way for others
    Clavi: 1 Yamaha 2 Korg 3 Roland (very bad)
    Hammond: 1 Yamaha (for simulated drowbars). Korg is quite usable either.
    Guitars: Roland wins, Yamaha however is quite good.
    Strings: Yamaha wins, Korg is quite good.
    Brass: Better on Yamaha, not so bad on Korg.
    Synth lead: Better on Yamaha, Korg is quite bad
    Synth: Good on all the 3 keyboards. I like the Roland pad most.
    Vocals: better on Yamaha
    Keybed: 1 Roland 2 Yamaha 3 Korg (very poor synth action)
    User interface: 1 Roland, Yamaha and Korg are quite similar.

    What a truly amazing video. you deserve much credit fin sir as you obviously went to so much trouble. All 3 boards are excellent. I already have the krome but would be happy with any of them. They are all of such a high standard these days. Finally..congrats on being such an outstanding player..you would be such an assett to any band

    I have a Korg Krome and I really love the realistic piano sounds and all of its capabilities. The only thing that sucks about it is the less durability on the road if you’re touring. You really need to invest in a better keyboard case because of the SD card. If that gets knocked out of place or if you need to get a brand new card you’re looking at 200 dollars just to fix the problem unless you do it yourself.

    Known fact. Yamaha will always win on the acoustic instruments, Roland will always win on the synths, but the Korg Kronos is a full blown sampler and can hold it's on with both. I know this is a Korg Krome, but I have a Kronos, Motif xs, and Roland fa 07. Comparisons are also hard when eq and effects are different. The Roland is the easiest to sequence and program and is more Daw friendly.

      Luca Longoni I know and understand, my comments are most directed to people comparing them as quality of sound by what we can percibe depending on devices. It’s all about personal taste. To me, Yamaha has the warm feeling, for those who love warm, Korg is more bold, and natural kind of analog, and Roland has a presence! Bright clear and well defined high sounds, ideal for Pop, And Rock, now, the real truth is... I love the three of them!

    Neither Krome nor the Modx features the same quality keybed that the Roland FA has. Unbeatable at this price segment (88k version), and even competitive compared directly with the top tier workstations in the market. The Modx sounds superbly well overall, being specially strong in the lead sounds, pads, strings... The Roland is stunning when it comes to pad, string and lead sounds, those pads are really spectacular. Piano sounds are great too but you gotta tweak them and modify certain parameters (Roland). Korg Krome is the worst option here, awful keybed, not particularly outstanding in any department and lacking character. The Roland FA got the edge here.

      That reasoning is exactly why I sold my Electro 6D. To me, all the elements that make Nord pianos so special wash out in the settings I play in. Usually a drummer, bass, another keyboard player, guitar, etc. I Have a YC73 now. Thinking about returning it for a FA07. I used to have the 06 and I miss it dearly. The APs, EPs, strings, synth (of course) and even the organs were fine for me. Granted all were tweaked to my liking and stored on the board. And the overall features are bananas. Lot of menu diving but that it's feature packed. I missed the layering/split capabilites for sure. In the end....Yamaha outdid themselves with the original motif line. The MODX and Montage don't compare. Hence why most of the guys I see with either of those boards are still dragging around laptops and running soft synths

    • @penponds
      @penponds Год назад

      That’s exactly why it’s better for a pianist playing solo or just practicing at home. It’s absolutely the closest to an acoustic piano by default. The others (as are many except for Kurzweil & Kawai) are all focused on the too-treble end to cut through a band. That’s why they sound much poorer in solo presentation.

    There different scales, and brands, for different purposes. The three giants on this industry. You can try any other combination from these brands. Beyond that, what I'm totally sure is that the display is instrumental on a quicker change of sounds & settings, and that weighted keys return the true feeling of playing a piano.

So I have put the Yamaha MODX6, Korg Krome 61 and cheapest of all, Roland Juno DS-61 on my shortlist. I didn't like the synth action of the Korg Krome 61 but that may have been a busted up store demo version. The Roland FA-08 lacks presence and punch. I should know...I own one! got it NEW for under a $1000. I'm still learning my way around it, but the owner's manual is really awful. The Yamaha sounds really full, and articulate! The Korg sounds good, but a bit bright for my taste. I also have a KORG M-50 that I hoped tp replace with the FA-08, as the KORG weight 20lbs more, but I played it yesterday, and I was stunned by how rich it sounded - especially Strings! I'll give the Roland some more time, and hopefully - it will prove to be worthy!

    Why use a 61 key Korg where you can't get as much bottoms as the other two bigger boards. Also, sounds like you're not using a sustain pedal with the Korg. Just my two cents.

    As far as pianos, the Yamaha and Korg are basiclly tied, (thanks to the Krome sharing the Kronos piano samples)... For everything else, the MODX beats out both the Krome and FA, thanks to it's several generations newer engine.
    That all said, it really doesn't matter - all 3 of these synths are "mid-range" boards, so soundwise they will never match up with the "Flagship" synths, (Kronos, Montage, ect.), but any one of them is more than good enough for the "average" player...

    • @briez1
      @briez1 2 года назад

      The MODX has the exact same sound engine as the Yamaha Flagship Montage. Meaning it sounds exactly the same. So yes It does match up strictly sound speaking. It has exactly the same presets and sounds.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 2 года назад +1

      @@briez1 Yes, but lots of people also complain about build quality and the keybeds on the mid-range and top of the line models so. Have to take it all into account.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 2 года назад

      @@briez1 And those assumed negatives often translate into their brains telling them that something sounds "different" than what it actually does. Years back that happened with the Korg Krome - I had conversations with a bunch of people who were positive the 88-key, with it's full hammer-action piano style keybed sounded better than the 61/73 key models, even though they were all the exact same keyboard internally.

    • @briez1
      @briez1 2 года назад

      Montage certainly has more controllers and stuff. Haven't tried the Keybed. I recently bought the MODX8 and am impressed with all it can do! Haven't tried any of the other ones. But it is cool you get Yamaha flagship sounds for less than half the price of the Yamaha flagship synth!

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 2 года назад +1

      @@briez1 You aren't wrong though that the Montage/MODX share the same engine, but synth-players are a weird animal. I've noticed the same with the Roland D-05 Boutique and the D-50, tons of people saying the full D-50 sounds "better", even though both are the exact same synth, just in different forms. Guess appearance does matter after all, just not how it should...

    Instead of buying multiple boards, just get a Kronos and you won't need anything else.
    But out of budget, I got an fao8 *open box to save money* because the keys feel the nicest, and the onboard sounds and sequencers work in a pinch, and the Integra content via axiom is pretty good. But if I need anything more specific, I'd just plug it into a daw. Even if you don't like the sounds that much, it still makes for an amazing midi controller.

      @@lucalongoni4766 good point. It is much easier to have multiple boards in many applications. They're all fantastic boards tbh. I think Roland make some of the nicest feeling keys.
