Love how everyone that was so offended that FSU wanted to leave the ACC and told them to stop complaining are now silent because Clemson is doing the same thing.
Might be rivals on the field, but Clemson knows what happened to FSU was an indictment of the conference they are in. Clemson and FSU are united in this situation.

OK. I’ll pull the self-interested string. Currently, Notre Dame has a $100 million (estimated) exit fee if it joins any conference except the ACC for football. If FSU/Clemson leave (and others), does that negate that exit fee, and is ND fighting for this? I loathe the idea of ND joining a conference, but if the ACC falls apart, ND’s scheduling becomes a nightmare.

Probably not, especially when we keep hearing whispers of 48 teams in 2 conferences.

FSU's suit (& its purpose) is simply *not the same* as Clemson's.
FSU wants out of the ACC & will not accept anything less because of an emotional rage response they can't take back. That's fine.
It's simply not the same as a Clemson program that *the ACC has worked with as uniquely in all of sports* to do things like shatter the all-time record for seasons without a bye-week opponent (including this year where all teams have *at least* two bye-weeks, which is sincerely impressive) for just one example of the ACC working with Clemson in a way FSU deliberately did the opposite of throughout the entirety of the era.
Clemson *may* leave, or they may help change the future of multiple conferences outright (you know, *like they literally did the last time they said they were leaving the ACC* & instead renegotiated & found unprecedented success including multiple national championships & first-round draft picks). 💯

    1. Going back to last year with the Board of Trustees meeting with Michael Alford, it is abundantly clear that schools in the ACC are being paid significantly less than those institutions in the B1G and SEC. In order for Florida State to remain relevant in the ONLY sport that matters (it pays the bills for everything else), they need to get out of the conference immediately.
    2. Regions matter for the broadcasters only in protecting their turf. ESPN is SEC, Fox is B1G. Does ESPN want to give FOX any opportunities in expanding their college brand into the state of Florida?
    3. Just a guess, maybe the football teams take on different regions of the country during the season while sports like baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball, etc. would remain regional.

  • @PhilPhil240

If FSU was undefeated in the SEC with the same situation last year, they would be in the CFP. Clemson knows this, and is trying to avoid that from happening to them. ACC is disrespected every year as the "weakest conference" so no matter how they win and who they beat, it will always be overlooked by the outcomes of other conferences. Yes, they finally expanded so maybe it won't come down to how it happened last year, but it's still a thing nonetheless.

He is right. I don't care how close they are to each other. Can you imagine Alabama/Clemson regular season? or LSU FSU home and home in October? That would make the regular season more fun. And with teams able to lose a game or two and still get in the playoffs from the two big conferences, they could theoretically stop playing the directional Michigan teams for throwaway games in September and we could have watchable games each week. Week 2 right now and the week before rivalry week might as well be scrimmages in major conferences. I don't even sit down to watch those saturdays

Having grown up in the Seattle area I can tell you that the SEC and B1G do well in the state of Washington because it's not on cable TV and the Pac-12 is (was? I don't know what to say anymore).
TV ratings and numbers aren't a true representation of what the consumer wants altogether.
I now live in Utah and I want to watch the Seahawks but often there will be say 2 games on CBS in the afternoon, one is in Seattle against Arizona, both markets relatively close to Utah, but what does CBS play in Utah? Buffalo and New York. Is that really because Utah is full of raving AFC East fans? Uh, if they're here I don't know where they are. Most people here are devote NFC West fans, whether that be Arizona, San Francisco, or Seattle. Heck there's more Raiders fans here than east coast teams but what does regular TV offer in Utah? East Coast.
So, I don't always buy into the look at the ratings this matchup or this conference gets stuff, not because there's not some truth to it but there's a lot of football forced on people and the common sense study shows that most football fans will generally watch whatever football game is on if they can't get their team. Some watch nothing, but most watch what they have to watch.
At least this is my experience having lived in 6 different states ranging from the West Coast to the Mid-West.

Clemson is not to be taken seriously. They tried cutting sports while paying Dabo north of $10M per year, and couldn’t even get that right. The SEC can have them. Keep them the hell away from the Big 10 . . . or tell them to sponsor more sports.
