    Great clear video as always! I’d didn’t see the point of replacing the cowl until you showed the before and after pics. It seems that bmw could have just used that M3 type cowl in the beginning on all models, allowing easier access to plugs etc.

    Anyone can hack up a stock part and bolt it back on. Takes a real craftsman to go to work to make the money to buy and install a part designed and built for the chassis. That’s called “doing right by the car”. Great video and job. Looks much better than a “budget build”. I’ll be doing this to my ‘11e93 “is” soon. I’ve got 2 M3’s and a 335is in the stable so yes, my philosophy is rather expensive. But hey, you only live once! FYI $777 shipped to my door with 4 filters & gasket. Anyone want my old stuff to hack up and put on their car?

    Why are u so damn perfect if I was a millionaire I'd fly you over to service my bmws 👌, it's actually a Nice weight reduction too, I have done something that you haven't I have modified my front bumper and grill to allow airflow to make contact at all lines of the intercooler and slightly bend down the front bumper so it's quite a significant different in airflow to the intercooler, for example the Oem one receives no airflow to the bottom 3 rows and the addition of the mesh breaking up the air it's dropped my Oem intercooler by 5degc average on a pull as those plastic fins are quite thick with an aftermarket cooler damage would be minimal and I think it could be a great mod to explore IMO

    Burger Motorsports has cowl filters that mount right to the fresh air intake ports for $59 deleting the factory cowls. Maybe a more modest option with similar effect.

    • @DigitalDissident
      @DigitalDissident 3 года назад

      Deleting the cowls lets water get in. The lip of the cowl goes up to the hood acting like a water barrier. Go to a car wash then open ur hood, there will be water in on the cowl but not the engine

      Almost 700$ in parts? What’s wrong with cowl delete? With BMS cabin filters installed?? Way cheaper and same upgrade. Only thing is you may want to leave the bottom part of the cowl in and cut out the section that the M3 leaves out. Then re-install weather stripping so you can still cover the DME and brake reservoir. This upgrade is way way too expensive for the benefit. I love your diy’s because they are done CORRECTLY, but this one is just too much money for the little upgrade. Still loved the DIY though.

      Its nice to have that accessible but I agree on being expensive, that's crazy, it take 15 min max to get the oem cowl out. 3 or 4 times a year max. That's like new front and rear bumpers, or coilovers

    Did you have a bonnet/ hood open warning when driving? I did as the profile of the underside of the M3 bonnet/ hood is different and the micro switch may not indicate that the bonnet/ hood is closed. I got around this issue by using a zip tie on the micro switch to hold the pin down, as if the bonnet/ hood is open l cannot see where I’m going due to the extremely large piece of metal obscuring my view, so no need for the warning light on the instrument panel haha. We call the hood a bonnet on this side of the pond, JIC no one has worked it out. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
