I love the viola. If it weren't for alto clef and smaller rep, I bet many more people would choose it. The sound has that amazing cantabile quality present in the upper range of the cello, but without the "scratchiness", if you know what I mean. Gorgeous playing, sir! I was wondering - which of the three (horn, violin, viola) do you consider your primary instrument? Are you studying all three at Curtis?
Yes, I suppose so. Honestly the alto clef and the smaller rep are two of the many things that attracted me to the viola, I love the idea of doing something different or unpopular. Viola is truly wonderful, it has it's own unique voice no other instrument can replicate. I actually majored in horn at Curtis (I graduated in May and am no longer there now). Violin is the instrument I've played by far the longest though, but got burnt out with it in high school, and I played viola through middle school as a secondary instrument. But when I picked up the horn in high school, I loved it and went on to pursue it as my main instrument, until I unexpectedly fell deeply in love with both violin and viola again a year and a half ago. So now I'm actually a violin performance major at Temple University (Master's degree) while considering myself an equal player of all three instruments, and I've never been happier😊.
Beautiful playing & interpretation 👏
