Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks Liam and Phil, with great sights and sounds from a splendid variety of locations on the SVR. The 8F was a real bonus and it was very good to see the 'near miss' from both sides of the track. Kind regards, Bob.
As religious watchers of your videos, just have to tell you the sound is superb. We feel as though we are right there with you watching the scenes being filmed. Great job.
Blue engine, red and cream coaches - lovely. Plus the added dead weight of that diesel made her work harder than she will at the Gala. I do like the slightly harder exhaust sound from the single chimney!
looks nice but can you GWR fans tell why they are right hand drive when the signals are on the left of the tracks surely it would not have been imposible to put a leaver on the left, even if it had to be bent a bit
Most fireman are right handed therefore it is ergonomically more sensible for the fireman to be on the left of the footplate. Signals were not always placed on the left but when they were it didn't matter too much as 1. it was just as much of the fireman's duty to watch for the signals as the driver's. In fact that was part of their learning the road. The drivers who had learned the road knew where the signals were anyway and he and the fire man would watch out for them as they approached. 3. From 1906 onwards the GWR had an automatic train control system that gave an audible and visual indication of the state of the signal ahead and applied the train brakes automatically if the crew failed to acknowledge a signal at danger indication. This greatly relieved the pressure on the footplate crew although they still were expected to keep a close watch on signals. Of course, no matter what side of the footplate the signals would be on, they would be on the opposite side when the loco was running in reverse as was common not only in tank engines but also on freight tender engines.@@tomskupham
Excellent video. Nice noise from both the King and the 8F, we look forward to making our first ever visit the SVR for this gala Keep up the good work Regards, Michael
What a sight! This is the first thing of any consequence I've looked at today - it's only 9am here on the eastern side of Australia - but that blue King is beautiful!!! I am SO looking forward to seeing GWR engines "in the flesh" in August!!! :D
That’s one way of putting it.....’painted an unnatural colour’. I’ve frequently commented in the past about its current appearance.Does anyone know when it’s going to be returned to its proper colour?
that's the second time for the king to visit here jake because 6024 king Edward l was the first king to visit and now its her sister 6023 king Edward ll
The left hand cylinder seems to be losing rather a lot of steam, but sounding very good. Couple of terrific shots climbing up the bank through Eardington.
++AndreiTupolev++ Certainly the first clip would suggest a significant leak from the left cylinder. Later on not so much though. Dragging a dirty diesel around was all part of the trials no doubt and probably caused the slipping seen and heard in the first clip.
Wonderful footage of both locos Liam! I'm not what may be called "A dyed in the wool GWR fan" , so maybe I'm not qualified to give an opinion on a King class loco, but here goes: Although I'm a great admirer of the GWR system, and a huge fan of 5043 in particular and Castles in general, I've not been convinced that the Kings come up to the normal GWR standard of performance. However, this performance by 6023 is quite outstanding and the best I've seen on a video. The bark from the exhaust is amazing and the reduced chimney height really enhances the looks and sleek lines of the loco. It's just a pity that it's return to the main line has been delayed yet again, but once it's let loose on the network, look out for some sparkling performances! Great work Liam, don't need to tell you to keep up the good work! Best wishes. Ken
Got so carried away with King, l almost forgot 48151, duh! A great performance from her and a credit to the team behind her. Great to sée her back on the network again! Cheers. Ken
complimenti cari per il video meraviglioso molto bella la ripresa video del bellissimo convoglio grazie di cuore un mio caro saluto dalla sicilia giuseppe
Brilliant!! I guess running at 25-35mph gets round the doubel red route restriction especially over Vitcoria bridge? Hammer blow would be lower I s'pose. keep up the good work. I wish I could get the four cylinders on my 3.5"g tuned as 6023.
Kings have a double red route availability. During their working days they would not have been allowed on the Severn Valley line. Why are they allowed nowadays where they would have previously been banned?
She's in gauge, just about ! With the railway being now private it changes everything, I can imagine how strange it would be to see a King on the SVR in steam day's !
Wonderful coverage of these two events Liam, the King still doesn't sound right to my ears, but that may be due to the modifications they've done on her. It's about time that Didcot sorted this important loco out, before it will be too late....Regards....Bob
It is too late. I predict you'll never see a King in action on the mainline again. Magnificent video Liam, but testimony to a complete Didcot balls up.
That king in blue looked amazing

that's the great western bark

8F - beautiful side lit hint of sunlight on the exhaust plume give great contrast - terrific!
Such a marvelous steam locomotive,I love it!
Excellent video. Nice noise from both the King and the 8F, we look forward to making our first ever visit the SVR for this gala
Keep up the good work

An absolutely beautiful steam loco and a wonderful train. Excellent video.
Congratulations to all involved. It was great to see again.

The King is magnificent, just as I remember seeing them in the 50's and early sixties. Even though she is painted an un-natural colour.

Another top production with great sound
Great video. I know its probably the camera angle but at 4:03 the buffer beam looks very close to the platform edge. Super footage.
Great video Liam, you've captured the King well. Regards Jake.
that's the second time for the king to visit here jake because 6024 king Edward l was the first king to visit and now its her sister 6023 king Edward ll
BR6023 KE2, the blue king, looking great with high sided tender. On visit from Didcot RC.
Magnificent! Made me smile! Cheers John
Great Video, Truly remarkable pieces of filming...Regards Tom
Very enjoyable as ever ... Thank you Liam 👍🏼😀🚂

Fantastic video and brilliant locations well done.
at least we will have king in the mix for a while
Just Brilliant to watch, Thank you both
You cant help but love a King.....fantastic machines...better in green though.
matto2801 blue is better in my opinion, but great to hear
Pure great western power gonna love buying my gala tickets tomorrow I just wanna come see this beauty!'

Beautiful looking locomotive and passenger cars! Here in the US we seem to have a hard time keeping our trains from derailing!
Great shots!
complimenti cari per il video meraviglioso molto bella la ripresa video del bellissimo convoglio grazie di cuore un mio caro saluto dalla sicilia giuseppe
Great videos, The King looks at its best in BR (Royal) Blue livery, did like the way the 153 kick up a small snow storm at the end
I prefer green (either GWR or BR), but a bit of variety does no harm.
Wouldn't a smaller blast pipe affect performance?
Great! Very atmospheric.

keep up the good work. I wish I could get the four cylinders on my 3.5"g tuned as 6023.
Very nice Liam cheers Steve ..
Wonderful footage, still working as hard as it was designed for. Just one point, what camera were you using, really good quality HD
Loved it lads.
Very nice video and sound. Very big thumb up :)
First time she’s truly been let loose in this certificate? Amazing!
Superb coverage of these test runs. She sounds great.
Christopher Searle wsa
Brilliant
Ought to re-name her "King Charles ! " -Certainly had a bit "chopped off" up top ! Going very well though..(unlike KC 1 ! )
Bearing in mind what happened to Edward II, I'm sure there must be some jokes about red-hot pokers somewhere ...
Love it great video Liam. Richard
Excelente video!!
Amazing
Not the most favourable conditions for running but she seems to be doing well!
What 8f is that

7 coaches and a lump of pig iron would not have been a test for a king
great video
Nice one man 😁

Why "unlikely never to see mainline duties again" please?
I went there before.
once a king always a king once a nights enough!!!!
Fantastic loco, dreadful colour !!
it's the ww2 when there were ready to avacuate the children
fantastic
