The Severn Valley Railway - Spring Steam Gala (2022)

- Sir Nigel Gresley was the star attraction at the Severn Valley Railway Spring Steam gala and we would be treated to a Black A4 on the Teaks (coaches) This was undoubtedly the highlight of the event and this was done justice given the amount of people that frequented the trains and the masses that soared to the lineside. While the A4 was the Star there was three other guests. There was a Southern S15 in the form of 506, which was courtesy of the Mid Hants Railway. This was backed up by last year's star engine 2999 Lady Of Legend. The new build Saint class returned and would once again put on a good show for all. The fourth guest was Saddle Tank 71516 Welsh Guardsman which was paired with the small home fleet locos for some fantastic double headed thrash. As mentioned above the homefleet are featured though not all.
Filming took place on the Thursday and half a day on Friday. We gave up filming early as we had a two day rover ticket and wanted to sample some of that sorely missed gala action that has been put hold due to the pandemic. The downside to travelling is I can't be at the lineside, so I decided to capture some evening scenes on my Samsung S21 camera phone for my personal enjoyment. These were captured at Bewdley and Arley after we finished travelling, usually I wouldn't dare showcase these as they rarely come out well but after playing them back on the big screen, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and the lack of shake in the video. While the phone camera audio is generally pretty awful, the magic of the modern day phone camera is rather good and I have included the scenes as an additional optional bonus. So I hope you find them watchable.
I hope you enjoy the action and a huge thanks to the Severn Valley Railway for hosting the event, we had three great days.

I was there on the Sunday; got hauled by all the guest locos. A superb gala. Top marks, SVR... and gold star! Excellent footage, and if you hadn't told us, I wouldn't have guessed the station footage was on your phone. The early evening light gave the shots great atmosphere.

This has to be for me the best SVR video I've yet seen. Most of these vantage points I've never seen or not from anywhere you took them. Thanks for sharing and I'd have definitely bought a ticket behind Sir Nigel, Lady of Legend, and the old Southern mogul. You obviously know this line very well, like Penny Steam knows the K&WVR.
Cracking footage of a lovely line. I just had Thursday & Friday down there, my first visit. A lovely part of the country, I’ll have to get back as soon as I can.

My wife and I were at the 2017 NYMR Spring steam festival with both Bittern and Sir Nigel, as well as Brittania. Not having been back on the NYMR since 1979 on a visit to the UK it was amazing. Cannot wait to get back to England to do this on the SVR!
This was the Severn Valley Railway steam Gala not the North York Moors Railway Gala, two different steam Railway's
@@peterwilliamallen1063 Yeah, I know, but giving the info regarding Sir Nigel on a different line, but similar timing. I mentioned both the NYMR and SVR, the latter which I have yet to visit.
The " Sir Nigel" type of engine established a speed record of her time on the London - Edinburgh western railway !
It's nice that phone cameras have gotten so good. Yeah, they won't do super-telephoto (yet) as well as a decent 4k camera, but that shot of the tanks heading into the sunset was spectacular.
The section shot with the S 21 looks very good!!

Looks like sir Nigel gresley is looks suitable with the LNER teaks
Why shouldn't it, the Streaks ran with these Teak type coaches in the 1930's and 1940's while operating for the LNER.
@@peterwilliamallen1063 yeah and on this occasion on the seven valley railway this is the first time in decades to see a LNER engine and the LNER teaks together
@@thebrummierailenthusiasts5329 There has been LNER / Eastern Locos visit the SVR more recent than that pulling the Teak Coaches, The Great Eastern Y class engine visited 1 year ago, Flying Scotsman and Tornado visited 5 years ago, Bittern visited 10 years ago and SNG 13 years ago all pulling the Teak Set at some time or other during their visit, plus Tornado is a regular visitor to the SVR

Remember, always film in portrait, when your subject moves so does your phone, up, down anywhere but on your subject, and try not to get things in focus!

Some really superb footage. I started uploading footage of steam engines a couple of months ago. I live in Kidderminster, can you recommend any good spots to record?
Foley Park/Rifle Range in Bewdley. Hampton Loade and Eardington Bank. Google any image of the stations along the line and that will help. Too many to list here

Why do some of The Engien hace their original Railway letra like The a4 has The LNER.
