  • Mostly advice for beginners but anyone can use it: imagine the oppinent’s reactions!
From out at Lake Windermere, the Canadian version, comes advice on using imagination in your solo training.
Don’t just practice your combos, but add in possible responses from your opponent! Work at stopping the sword where it might be parried.
The goal? Programming your brain you react and getting your muscles and tendons used to the impact of the moves. Then when you actually fight someone, you’ll be better prepared for dealing with opposition to your moves.

What I learn't in fencing as you step in to parry make one movement with a attack. At the same time , some times you can get lucky be bold.

Very good advice. Moves like the schielhau do that very well, or a zwerchau counter to a zwerchau. Be bold indeed, for it takes some daring to make work, but wow, when it works it is so satisfying!

Thanks, Jeff! Sometimes we just need to keep it simple and focused. Practice basics, fundamentals, essentials. Get those right and the rest fall into place!
