The silver ring collar on the first Supercharger handle indicates that Sam pulled up to an old V2 station that is incompatible with non-Teslas. Even if the car's nav system doesn't know, both the Ford Pass and Tesla apps know which V3 Superchargers are enabled for non-Teslas. Hopefully Ford's native nav system gets updated to show which Tesla stations to go to very soon.

Did you select the correct Supercharger station by either looking on the Ford map on your Mach-E or on the Tesla phone app? Not all V3 sites are opened to non-Teslas. You also need to download the update required for Plug and Charge on you Mach-E.
Tesla is not opening those V3 sites that are normally too busy so as to prevent waiting lines and frustrations between drivers.
