Speed at the end of 2nd part of the moose test (at the same point)-
Ford Focus 59 kmph
Ford Focus ST 68 kmph
Speed at the beginning of the 3rd part (at the same point)-
Ford Focus 48 kmph
Ford Focus ST 59 kmph
The regular focus understeers heavily in the 2nd straight of the moose test. That basically works like a 'brake' and slows down the car properly. The ST holds its speed better.
That's the reason why the regular Focus manages to enter the 3rd part so easily. The ST conserves so much speed that it cannot transition into the 3rd part as easily. The ST is not worse.
Edit- It may all be because of the road resurfacing that was done in between the test of the 2 cars.
More stuff- Time taken to go from end of 1st part to beginning of 2nd part are practically equal (2.3 or 2.4 seconds) for both cars. That is even though the normal car entered at 83 kmph and the hot version at 77 kmph.
Regular Focus test- ruclips.net/video/d_v9sy32Z5I/видео.html
Tanjim Bashar The entry speed in the second sector for the Focus is 70 km/h at best attempt (not 59 km/h).
At the entrance of the third sector the speed of the Focus is 48 km/h at best attempt. However, on the first attempt the speed of the Focus at the entrance to the third sector is 52 km/h.
Anyone can check this: ruclips.net/video/d_v9sy32Z5I/видео.html
The differences between Focus and Focus ST are probably mainly due to the condition of the asphalt and the ambient temperature.
@@4reich where did I write entry speed into 2nd sector is 59 kmph?
Edit: U may have miss read the comment. 59 kmph is the speed at the end of the 2nd scetor. I agree the change of asphalt maybe a part of the reason. I will edit the comment.
Thank you so much I was wondering about this!
Hell yeah!
Take as an ice on your heads, guys!
Most of you focus only on numbers. Resulf of 2018 Focus was really good, but not that legendary as you used to think in coments. I can tell you what happened here:
1)2018 Focus has a little, light engine.
2) Ford (still) can do a better suspension, than Mercedes or VW (at least, but I miss old Ford

Por favor , Opel Astra Maniobra de esquiva.
In contradiction to many, I am not surprised the ST performs less as the standard Focus.
Although the drivetrain is much more advanced than the 1.0, at the end of the day it's the weight that matters. That's why many hot-hatches - and thus the ST too - can't pair with the astonishing 83 kmph of the 1.0 (torsion beam). I drive the ST-line 1.5 - 182PS with multilink, but I am convinced it performs better than the real ST at the moose test, but the 1.0 will beat the 1.5

Interesting to see how much difference environment variables (very hot asphalt), different tire version, and much heavier front end due to the bigger engine, brakes etc (compared the 1.0 ecoboost with 83kph) can make in this test.

The regular focus understeers heavily in the 2nd straight of the moose test. That basically works like a 'brake' and slows down the car properly. The ST holds its speed better because it is the 'hot hatch'.
That's the reason why the regular Focus manages to enter the 3rd part so easily.
All this can be because the road was surfaced recently.
Check if you don't believe- ruclips.net/video/d_v9sy32Z5I/видео.html
@@tanjimbashar dunno about that, this one understeers heavily too, once you have understeer, the angle doesn't really matter- it slows down the car either way, with dynamic traction. The tires are a limiting factor here for sure, another car shipped with subpart rubber, either for cost savings or "better economy"
@@piciu256 ST understeers a lot less. The regular gets locked into a static udersteer. ST manages some grip at all times and keeps changing direction. The speed numbers speak for themselves. Remember, the entry speed of the regular car was also higher at 83 kmph than the ST's 77 kmph. Yet the regular slowed down so much more. In a sports car you don't want this sort of understeer that slows you down this much.
You forgot about the biggest difference. The old Focus ran on completely different tarmac. This one seems to be more slippy as shown by the results of previously tested FWD cars. Tires were the same in both tests: Michelin Pilot 4S and I don't think the weight difference is significant enough.

@@pokest225 ok cierto
Since everybody is complaining about the old Ford Focus test, go back to the video where they talk about their new tarmac. They make some important remarks there:
- the old tarmac was more abrasive and had an uneven surface which means more grip
- the new tarmac is more even and smooth which causes a lot of understeer which you can see at the exit of the second row
- differences in tire setup play a bigger role now than they did before so the difference between cars fitted with standard tires (e.g. Turanza) and performance tires (e.g. Michelin Pilot 4s) is even more substantial now
--> Conclusion: Stop comparing old vs. new tarmac tests and cars with performance tires vs. cars without. Both can't be compared. End of the story.
Can i get a job as cartester?
Why does the ST-Line do this better?
Probably because of the weight of the engine
3 cylinder engine is lighter than 4 pot
Oh it ride where it want with ESP

Ford really wanted to use the 3 pot but couldnt get the reliability required.
Imagine how bad this performs with the even heavier over the front axle torque converter auto.
@Milkman no, this is a 4pot. The ST sadly no longer has the legendary 5pot.
We want SEAT TOLEDO 2012-2018 ! ! !

Bridgestone tyres??
Description says Michelin, weird
Ps4s
@@alexvalentin4335 really? So it must be the tarmac and temperature then, those tires are pretty good.
Focus St Line 1.0 why better?
Way better!!! Managed 83 km/h ...
Only in this test, not in handling or grip.
Temperature, tires, wheels and I think most it's the weight of the engine. There is so many variables, it could be also different suspension... these test should be done in closed temperature-controlled environment. Also could be interesting if these test would be repeatet with some reference tires, so we could see if the stock tires are problem or not.
Since the track has new asphalt the grip is worse than before. I thought new asphalt have best grip but the results are there...
The new road surface is more slippery. It could also explain why the new Golf succeeded at only 69 km/h...
that is exactly why F1 tracks are choppy and broken...not really. smooth is always better than rough, grip is microscopic on tarmac, the new asphalt at this temperature is probably greasier.
The new road surface is more slippery than the old one, because the standard Focus succeeded this test at 83 km/h on the old road surface.
Doubt that, compare i30 with i30N.
Standard focus that they tested had also sport suspension but with 3cyl engine which is less heavy than st engine. That is the reason
@@lucianopavarotti4128 it's much more complicated than that, but yeah that's one of the important factors. This ST is like 150KG heavier than the 1.0.
The other big factor is how the ESC reacts. In sports cars they generally try to keep your speed during corners while in normal cars they try to kill speed as much as they can. If you check the 1.0 video ESC brakes the car very hard after the first corner, while in this video it doesn't.

(235/40 18" Kumho Ecsta ps31 ^^ )
I don't think it would make much of a difference because they put their foot off the pedal once they enter the first cone. Maybe more understeer because of the heavier nose.
strange. normal ford focus had better results. lots of cars lately show a big tendency to understeer (e.g. golf 8). must be something with the tires, maybe they are all fitted with eco/low grip/low rolling resistance tires to boost their fuel economy and get those EU guidline results?
EDIT: Maxim is probably right, look at the old tarmac: ruclips.net/video/d_v9sy32Z5I/видео.html the new one seems super smooth/ less grip.
that 'race mode' setting seems dangerous. car wasnt faster and the driver just lost control of it.
I think rather the ground (this newer asphalt) is too slick, this new asphalt gives too much worse results with many cars,no doubt.
This car has high performance sports tires. The other Ford Focus had a much smaller, much lighter engine, the weight balance makes a huge difference for understeer.
@@Mgoblagulkablong maxim is probably correct, new tarmac. look at the old test ruclips.net/video/d_v9sy32Z5I/видео.html
@@pr7638 there are plenty cars that did 75+ kph on the new tarmac, look at other vids
You need to analyse the first turn deeply as it's the source of the final result. If ESP is aggressive and uses breaks early and hard with the first move of the steering wheel this slows down the car more which allows to drive through the test nicely with lower speed. Sport cars with less aggressive ESP don't allow for high entry speed but will get better overall time of drive through the test. Also, when driving with a sport car you don't just steer with the steering wheel but use also breaks and throttle to move the weight of the car to improve grip of axles and rotate the car. So no surprise, sport cars are less secure when used by amature on normal roads.
Damn Ford didn’t pay this Channel for this time 😅

One day.... in the far future... In a far far away Galaxy... I'll concern about moose test results while choose a car.
Ok man, there are much more internet to come here to fk.
It gives a pretty good idea as to how a car behaves under extreme conditions, I'm not very concerned about this, but I surely wouldn't want a car that behaves really unpredictably.
Normal Ford Focus score better? Why do al sports cars perform so bad?
well i asked myself a similar question so i will explain what ive found. "Normal" Ford focus has its safety systems and suspension prepared for maximum safty and at a possible speed. Focus ST, and all other sport cars, is prepared for maxium performance and skills. ESP launches very late and probably the exit speed of Focus ST from this test would be bigger than normal Focus. To summarize: normal cars: all systems work in a very defensive way even if it means speed loss, Focus ST systems are very aggressive and work very late allowing to maintain higher speed. This is only my personal thoughts based on what ive found on the internet.
@@panhung exactly, sport esp has very late reactions, well except fiesta ST which is king of moose tests
weight balance, big difference in engine weight
Mgoblagulkablong i don’t think it has to do with weight balance, because BMW has a perfect 50/50 balance and has always a bad score
blabla62871 that sounds correct

Maybe efficient on a race track, but dangerous on open roads for average driver. Ford, what have you done ? You knew your subject before...
