    Gooseneck is on heavier trailers because the trailer can lean with out flexing the trailer frame,as in horse trailers and equipment trailers that go off road. On semi trailers the fifth wheel stays flat but the truck frame and suspension is designed to flex.

      The gooseneck is much easier on a pickup truck frame and suspension because it can pivot 360° a fifth wheel just back and forth, and we all know Campground roads can twist back and forth which makes it much easier on the camper and the truck with the gooseneck

    I just got a Gen Y. So far love it a lot. I had a BW companion. That was a awesome hitch as well. I just tow more with a gooseneck. So removing a 5th wheel hitch all the time sucks. Plus i got my bed back. I called Gen Y they help me pick the right hitch. Awesome customer service. Also E trailer did great as well.

    We bought our Alliance Valor 40v13 last December.
    We never even towed it off the lot without the Gen-Y Executive hitch.
    We Absolutely love it.
    I did a ton of research and realized this is the safest and easiest way to tow.
    We however opted for the B&W
    Ball kit for our Ram Truck.
    I put the chain anchors in the rear position. I can reach everything standing on the ground.
    The B&W Ball is nice with the handle so you don't have to get grease everywhere when removing 👍

    As far as warranty, may depend on manufacturer. I have verified with Brinkley about switching out on a Z model and they prefer the Gen-Y (it is standard on the G model - choice of pin or gooseneck) and believe they will be better for the chassis and frame long term. Since warranty goes through them, they have said it will obviously not void it even though it is a Lippert frame.

    We love our Gen-Y Gooseneck hitch. It is a rough ride for the first 600 miles or so. We have 7500 miles on the hitch and wouldn't trade it for anything. We got a tire step... it makes it a lot easier to connect the safety chains. The first step we ordered was 19" wide, it did not work well with our F450 19.5 rims. We got a 22 inch wide step and love it.

      That’s great! We have some friends that use the Anderson hitch too. It’s a great hitch! The only downside is that your back to the same space issue by having a big hitch in the bed of the truck. For us, that is really what pushed us over the edge. And it’s so nice to have that bed back!

  • @michaelthetrent
    @michaelthetrent Год назад +9

    I used my brothers truck to tow our 5th wheel home and instantly took off the king pin and put a Reese Goosebox on it.
    My big reason was I need my truck bed. I put a BW turnover hitch in it as it wasn't factory prepped and now all I have to do is flip the ball over and I get my bed back instead of having to remove a 200lbs hitch. The ride is also better, but that wasn't my primary reason. It's a little more difficult to hook up, but you get used to it.
    Not all states require the safety chains, but I bought mine from Reese and hook them up every time. Better safe than sorry.

  • @rui1863
    @rui1863 Год назад +3

    Another plus for the gooseneck is that it is a safer solution. I've seen many RUclips videos of trailers crushing the truck bed because a pull test was not performed when pulling away or having your arm ping between the trailer and truck bed because the trailer rolled off the hitch. It's very difficult to have that happen with gooseneck - it's either hitched up or it's not.

      Yes! Absolutely! That is such a great point. We believe this to be the safest solution as well and will always tow this way moving forward.

    • @freetoroam6606
      @freetoroam6606 11 месяцев назад +1

      NOT TRUE. That is why chains are required on goosenecks and not on 5th wheels. The failure rate of 5th wheels is very, very low compared to ball hookups. I'm not saying goosenecks are bad, I actually love them. But it is not "it's either hitched up or it's not". MANY people "high hitch" when using a ball set up. You must make sure the ball is seated properly and the hitch is not sitting on top of the ball. @@PawsForLove

      @@freetoroam6606 chains are required because of an old law. The Gooseball is much less likely to disconnect than a Kingpin! This is a fact! Trailers with Kingpins drop way more often Goose balls are almost "0" im retired now but I've towed/cleaned up every kind of accident you can imagine over 30 years! Fuel tankers , trailers , Fifth Wheel campers I've seen them all come apart or someone pulled the pin causing it. Not once did I get a Gooseneck failure of any kind! I've had trucks go off bridges while the gooseball was still holding strong! There are a lot of Myths out there that are not good Myths. And Money spent in some cases to prevent using them the manufacturer of the parts for the truck will lose a lot if people start using the ball some people already have in their truck .

    I went from an Andersen hitch on our previous 5th wheel trailer (Montana) to the Gen-Y on our new Brinkley. I really like the Gen-y for the extra bed space but dislike how close the tailgate gets to the trailer. Doing a little research and I saw that Gen-Y sells the "Goosepuck" that pushes the ball 5" back toward the tailgate of the truck. I think that extra distance will be huge when hitching up. I believe Gen Y also makes a 5" offset ball if you need more room between truck and trailer. Also do you find it more difficult to hitch up or getting things lined up properly? Or is it a two person job, or if you have a bed view camera how does it go? I know with my traditional fifth wheel as you know is fairly simple to hitch. It does look like an awesome hitch though.

    • @PawsForLove
      @PawsForLove  Год назад

      I believe they do as well! It was certainly an adjustment backing up, but it is now a one person job. It could go a little faster with 2 people. The reason is that the camera is good to line you up side-to-side, however it's hard to gauge your depth sometimes. After doing it a dozen times you definitely get a feel for where to stop though. I just do it myself now and it only takes about 5 minutes in total hooking up.

    To put the truth out there about Kingpin VS Gooseneck! Safety Chains are not used with Kingpins for a couple reasons 1. They can get caught in the work's of everything. 2 its not a Ball connection so the law says Not Required!
    On the Gooseneck 1. the chains are required only because of the laws just like Seatbelts are LAW. 2. once a Gooseneck is secured it separating is far less likely than a Kingpin. How many Semis or Kingpin Fifth wheel camper's have separated compared to A Gooseneck? Almost "0". You get out around farms and the Midwest The Gooseneck is used to pull extremely valuable LIVE cargo! I just pulled a 19k Fifth Wheel camper around the country with a 20k Reese Goosebox it was the Best decision I ever made! Rode nice was easier on the truck and trailer! Yes by law I had to connect chains not that big a inconvenience. I reversed them to make it easier to connect. And The Reese is the only Goosebox that doesn't void the warranty on the camper. And it has a Air ride built into it. Over 18k miles pulling with it through the Rockies and passes in Utah without any issues. Once the ball is locked in its in! No pull test needed to make sure its locked! People play games and pull the pin when parked with kingpins causing you to drop the trailer. Yes it happens in truck Stops especially. I can put a padlock on the Goosebox if i feel the need. Don't believe all The myths out there to decide, use the facts, common sense, no not all laws are written correctly some were broad that carry over to things like a gooseneck. Want to fix that law say something or live with it....

    Curious what options you have for changing the height to make your trailer level using this type hitch. I have the B&W 25K fifth wheel hutch and it has some adjustment up and down for height. I am curious if you had any issues when you switched over. Is your F350 4WD? I hear there are balls that are taller in case you are low in the front and need to raise the height

    • @PawsForLove
      @PawsForLove  Год назад

      This is a really good question! At the end of the day, the way to adjust height on this is to adjust which holes you're using in the pinbox. I feel that overall, I'd assume this will work on almost every truck and you'll have plenty of clearance between the bed and RV. Our F350 is 4WD. Personally, I'd really like to level our truck with the 2" spacer in the front, but it's hard to justify the expense!

      Great question, Mike! Yes, we did look at the Reese gooseneck. Ultimately, I didn’t want an airbag to maintain, which is what swayed us to Gen-Y. You are definitely correct about the Lippert frame warranty with Gen-Y though. When we spoke to Gen-Y about this, they had said that out of thousands of units, they haven’t had a single frame issue. For us, that was enough to trust it. However, it’s understandable if that’s a deal breaker and pushes you to the Reese.

    Greetings! I'm actually doing the very same research right now for our rig. I have to admit that my focus is not really on freeing up the bed of my truck, it's more around ease of hitching and smoothing out the ride. The question that I have, that I've not seen addressed anywhere, is how is the side to side flex? The up/down is handled by the torsion bars, but what about side to side? Thanks for the great video! It was very informative and good to see the ease of the switch out. Safe travels!

    • @PawsForLove
      @PawsForLove  2 года назад

      This is a GREAT question! Until you pointed out that it’s not been addressed anywhere, I hadn’t realized that. Such a great point! After reading your comment, I reached out to Jason at Gen-Y. He is the gentleman in the video that walks us through all the information. He first pointed out that when the fifth-wheel does move side to side, it will pivot on the ball, which means that it doesn’t technically compress the rubber (Torsion Flex) as much. But figuratively speaking, if the coupler was “solid mounted” on to something, and not on a ball or something that pivots, he assured me that there would be some “flex” to the rubber and would provide you with some level of benefit. Let me know if that answered your question or if there is anything else I could help with. - Sean

    • @sidx001
      @sidx001 2 года назад +1

      First, thank you so much for the reply! My question originates from thinking about what happens when I go offroad for some boondocking. There have been a couple of times that the drop off from the paved road to the side road had to be taken at a little bit of an angle. My Reese 5th wheel hitch pivots side to side which provides enough flex that I don’t worry much…I still take it nice and slow, but the flex is there. That’s why I was wondering about the gooseneck side to side flex. It makes sense that within the hitch to ball connection that there would be some give, just wasn’t sure how far that would go. I hope this makes sense! Thanks again for your reply, I’m looking forward to hearing about your overall impressions of the GenY hitch!

    Well... not knocking it, but i have a question to anyone: Are the benefits worth the hassle of climbing in and out of the bed for the safety chains?? Also, once you get under, if you put the gate up, don't get in a rush and frustrated because your ball isn't lined up and pull out.
