You’re clearly a super knowledgeable guy with a lot of experience , which means you know what to ask. You’re videos would benefit greatly from you asking the right questions instead of demonstrating you’re knowledge when you have the guy who actually designed the equipment right in front of you.

Thats like saying you would rather have the engineer come out and explain how to build a bridge rather than the iron workers who actually build the bridge. If i want to know how to draw the bridge I'll ask the engineer, if I want to know how the bridge works I'll ask the iron workers.

I talked my Dad into getting the second Gen. 20K goosebox when he bought his 2017 Primetime Sanibel 3917 with comes in at a GVW of 16K lbs. We have run the ranch hand adapter for 20 years on other fiver’s and always complained about the chucking and porpoising in the ride quality. First tow with the goosebox and we were sold made it a smooth tow and yes you still know a trailer is behind you. Honestly anything over 5K lbs you know is back there, but why not have a better experience and reduce fatigue by running innovative products like this and not void any warranties. People complain about the price but if you have a turn over set up you’re going to spend the same amount for a high quality fifth wheel setup with lower weight classification.

We didn't even take our 2021 cedar creek 38ebs off the lot until the 20k goose box was installed. We then traveled from south Louisiana to Denver the day the hitch was installed and it was worth every penny. Reese has a great product 👌

I replaced the pin box with a Gen2 GooseBox on a 2 axle Heartland Cyclone after watching your reviews. It's been on trips from Kansas to Arizona and New York on all kinds of roads. It hauls better than the original 5th wheel setup. I loved my B&W Companion hitch, but the convenience of instantly having the entire truck bed available whenever the trailer is disconnected can't be beat!

I bought my Gen 2 in 2019 based on your review and have no regrets. It's on my 2nd fifth wheel now and still performing like new. My air bag only requires a fill up in the beginning of the season and maybe a top off in late summer. If it needed to be replaced I would not hesitate buying the Gen 3. Thanks JD.

Used a 2nd gen for a couple years on my Jayco Eagle 355mbqs and loved it! Paid $1000 for it then. Just bought a new 2nd gen for a new Crossroads redwood 4150RD I’m buying and I’m installing and picking up next week. Paid $1600. Love the Reese goosebox and won’t tow my fifth wheel with anything else. $2500 for a 3rd gen on E-trailer seems to be a little crazy. Will use the second gen till and if the 3rd gen comes down in price.

I have a gen2 18k goosebox, I found it after watching this channel. I thoroughly enjoy it. My 2 issues are that my handle for the cable to release the jaws slips down the cable making it hard to reach at times, and secondly my air bag does not maintain pressure for more than about a week or so. But towing with it is very enjoyable.

Same here had to fill air bag often and it’s really hard to get to valve hooked up.
Also the stop on the cable was too high and it wouldn’t release the ball without me pulling the cable even further while trying to lift the trailer at the same time.

First off when my truck broke down one time the first eight people I called only had goosenecks, so that was a big plus, Then on my f-550 the frame was so rough I was worried about ripping apart the frame on the camper with the goose box second gen I went through some pretty rough transitions on the highway one that actually deflated the air spring in the goose box pretty well. And of course not only do I have plenty of room in the back of my trucks, I don't have to move a 200 lb hitch by hand when I need to use a truck, and my friends have my back if my truck breaks down again

Have had the 20k Gen 2 for just over a year. It works great and does decrease the chucking significantly. So much better than the original 5th wheel hitch. It tows our 37ft Toyhauler with no problem. I would like to have a remote air fill. But I still have to hook up the safety chains. So its no big deal. E-trailer had if for $1300 a year ago. Worth every penny. Great video

  • @duracell-joe
    @duracell-joe Год назад

I've been using my Gen2 18K Goosebox for about 2 years now and I can say the ride quality is so smooth you tend to forget you're even towing something. And being able to just unlatch the ball, wipe it off and throw it under the back seat and have the bed usable, is really the best benefit. Couple of small complaints: 1) the air valve is difficult to fill with because you not only have to attach the air hose but then it won't fill unless you press the valve assembly in; 2) the grease nipple on the underside of the latch bar got ripped off almost right away, since when you lift the trailer off the ball, the trailer tends to move a good amount to the side or front/back, so as soon as that hitch is free of the ball but barely above it, it moves and the nipple was torn off; 3) the hole for putting a lock through the latch lever is a bit small for a heavy duty padlock. Other than that, I really don't know why you don't see more of these out there - it's as if no one knows about towing with a true gooseball hitch, and the benefits are so great. Considering if you're new to towing and have to buy a 5th wheel hitch, that apparatus will cost you a good $500 or more, then why wouldn't you just spend a bit more and get one of these and then you won't have to remove that big frame from the bed of your truck when you're not towing and have to find a place to store it.
Edit: One drawback I think of putting the air valve on top of the Gen3 is that on my goosebox, I have a magnet-attached solar panel for keeping the batteries charged when in storage, so that would potentially cover the air valve.

I don't currently own a 5th wheel, but considering one.
The Reese hitch has always been an attractive option to the standard 5th wheel hitch in the bed. The standard hitch is fine if you don't mind not having use of the bed or having to remove the hitch anytime you want the bed of the truck clear.

Does Reese have any plans to introduce a Goosebox able to replace the Turning Point pin box? Gen Y has one but I prefer not voiding any Lippert warranty plus I like the air bag over the torsion style shock absorption.

Will this Goosebox work on a 2019 Ford F250 with the standard 6.75 foot bed length? I currently use the Pullrite sliding hitch to prevent and damage to truck/trailer when making sharp turns or reversing.

I actually have a question. I have the gen 2 and actively take the trailer offroad since it is a Genisis Supreme 37 CRXL. I am worried about the Gooseneck taking load of being pulled out if the truck and trailer get stuck. The tow rope I have does stretch 30 % to act like a bungee cord. Could this type of load be a problem or will it be OK? I absolutely love the Goosebox. I purchased it and had it installed before I even picked up my first fifth wheel.

12,000 miles on my Solitude this first year and the Gen 2 has been problematic. Drive a couple hundred miles over interstates and the bar is no longer visible in the sight hole and have to re-fill. Start/stop results in loud clanking regardless of whether I use a Curt or B&W ball. Disconnect results in loud metallic snapping noises when Goosebox clears the ball with trailer lurching back a good 4 inches despite being chocked and TV in park and E-brake on. Something is not right with this design or my pin box.

What is the amount of travel that can be accomplished with a remotely adjustable on board compressor? It would be nice to be able to adjust the height upward on the fly if you find yourself in an off camber turn to give additional side rail clearance, or downward to correct for tail drag.

Empty to full air bag is probably 2" or so. It does matter, when we're in a tight situation parking, I always air the box up all the way to get as much clearance as possible.

I will never see the point of these. I pull heavy trailers everyday, RV, Flatbed and dumps, all GN. I put king pin adapters on all my trailers and IMO is FAR superior to a GN. The ONLY argument for a GN ball is room in the bed. You lose VERY little with a 5th wheel hitch and modern hitch come right out and leave a clean bed. I usually just have my 100 Diesel tank in the bed and a few small items. Hookup and unhook with a 5th wheel is lightyears faster than a GN. If you switch between many trailers often as I do the differance becomes obvious and glaring.
