    I’ve had my Gen 3 for 7 months now. LOVE IT. Can’t say enough good things about it. I have a F350 short bed and am using the Gen-Y Goosepuck 5” offset. Everything works great. I have to make a sharp turn at a grade and don’t have to worry about hitting the cab of the truck. As for the ride on the road, it is far better than the Andersen, Pullrite Super glide, and the Demco Autoslide. Had all 3 and all 3 bucked and chucked. Biggest advantage is an open bed and no heavy hitch to mess with. My wife even noticed the better ride we have with the Goosebox.

      Nice! Glad your loving it too. Just seems like a far support ride. I think so many traditionalist fifth wheel hitch user just don’t get it. Sounds like you got a nice setup. Appreciate you watching 👍🏼

    I bought my goosebox two years ago, I love it!! The only thing that scared me, when you’re out on those old two lane country roads, and the roads aren’t that great of shape and they lean, when I look in the mirror, it looks like the trailer was going to fall over, with a regular fifth wheel of the trailer moves with a truck, but I’ve gotten used to it, and I love it

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  Год назад +4

      Good deal. Yeah I like the fact that the trailer pivots and moves freely like that. Less stress on the truck I think vs a traditional fifth wheel hitch that doesn’t have that side to side play. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

    Great review and I agree with your points made about how to hook up and the way it tows. I'm towing with a Ram 3500 dually that also has rear air auto leveling so it rides REAL nice combined with the Goosebox! I use one of the telescoping wands with the yellow ball, but just stick it on the front of the offset ball (since I have a shortbed MegaCab). A piece of orange electrical tape on the center of the Goosebox gives me the line up reference and when the wand starts to tip forward, I'm good to drop it!
    LOVE having the bed clear when not towing! Hefting the big Pullrite Superglide out of the truck prior to this was NO fun! The offset ball works great and gives me the clearance I need when making a sharp turn!

    Been using mine with the B&W offset ball for 2 years and it is an ideal setup. Had the opportunity to pull 2 fifth wheels from CO to TX last month. 1 was my sons and I had to use his Andersen Ultimate and it was fine, no issues. 2 weeks later pulled my trailer (same size) over same route, but with my Goose box. The difference in ride quality was beyond a doubt better with the
    Reece. Those air bags really improve motion both lateral and horizontal. I do the same as shown here with the chain set up, except hooks on both ends. And now I only need one tennis ball device to hook up.

    I have the Goosebox on my toy hauler. On a toy hauler the airbag being adjustable was the main reason I chose it over a Gen-Y. With a toy hauler all the cargo weight is in the back (behind the axle), so the tongue weight will drastically change based on if Im empty or have a 2k UTV in it. The airbag allows me to easily adjust the tongue for a good ride regardless of load.

    • @WhyWait

    The problem with your air extension is you have bypassed the blow off valve. Big deal when you're towing with large altitude changes. A better ideas is to relocate the blow off valve to the rear with extension from bag to valve or just use an air chuck with an extended wand (i.e., semi air chuck).
    I've towed with both setup and always prefer goose. When the Goosebox was introduced, it was a no-brainer for our RV. When we got our Solitude, I put on a Gen2 before even leaving the dealer lot.

  • @stevegillespie6424
    @stevegillespie6424 Год назад

    I agree. I've had the 16K Goosebox on our 2016 KZ Durango 286BHD for almost 2 years now. Having never used a traditional king pin before this, I see no reason to even consider one. My truck (2014 Ram 6.7, 3500, 6.5ft bed, CC, SRW) has the OEM 5th wheel puck package, so the chain connections I use with the Curt ball system (#60618), are farther towards the rear, making that part not much of an issue to connect. I'm not an 80yr old, so getting in and out of the bed as needed, doesn't affect me. My air valve is on the side of the Goosebox, and can be reached easily using a Ridgid 18v compressor. Having the commonality between RV with Goosebox, and my 30ft GN trailer, was the highest priority to me, and it's fantastic so far. No large 5th wheel contraption in the bed to contend with.
    The Goosebox tows very smooth, tracks very nicely, doesn't buck at all. It just seems to float smoothly behind.
    The airbag is the biggest downfall to this setup in my opinion. Not for leaking or any malfunctions of the sort, but simply because it's extra parts and requirements for hook up, where I prefer/want a Keep It Simple Stupid kind of setup. That is my biggest complaint, just having the airbag system. But I deal with it. Over all it's been a great system, and something I recommend when asked about it.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  Год назад +1

      Definitely appreciate you sharing all of that. Good to hear reviews like this from other people. I too agree the airbag needs to be refined a little bit to make it a better easier system but still love the tow like you said. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼

    We have a B&W 25K and it has full side-to-side, front-to-back motion like a ball. As well as height adjustment. I’ve never towed with anything else, so I can’t say if it’s better or worse. Good video.
    The B&W offset ball doesn't work with factory round shaft GN systems. However, Gen-Y does make an adapter plate with an offset ball.
    While Lippert makes the vast majority of frames, they do not make ALL fifth wheel frames. Several manufacturers make their own frames in-house.

      Thank you, appreciate it. Yes I was looking into this and the manufacturers who make their own frames are far and few between and not very popular RVs. Great Review. I would live to see a review/comparison between the Reese Goose Box and the Gen Y goose neck pin box. Kinda like the idea of having no air bag to deal with on the Gen Y. I currently have a 25K B & W and it does a great job pulling my 44' Toyhauler even with the standard Lippert pin box but it is really heavy and takes up a lot of space in the bed of my F450.

I bought a trailer that has one of these and after repeatedly asking the dealer to have it removed and replace it to which I received endless resistance and sales pitches I made a decision to be a bit more open minded and try it. I run my trailer pretty frequently and I figured Id wait 15,000 miles to make a determination.

We've traveled from the east coast to the west coast and back again, including throught the deserts and mounains. It has performed well. Changing the safety chains to your set up is a great idea. Only thing I really dislike is that it is very difficult to hook up compared to a normal 5th wheel hitch. You can't see the ball in the bed so sometimes it takes several tries to get it lined up. Great think is its so easy to remove the ball from the bed compared to the 200lb 5th wheel hitch. You also have to make sure, SURE, that the hitch is locked on the ball. Its easy to have the trailer on the ball but not latched.

    • @stevegillespie6424

      Porbably would lose some space, due to the larger amount of box that rotates inside the bed, at a lower connection point then a traditional 5th wheel. How much exactly, you'd have to experiment.
      I have a 6.5ft bed Ram, and keep my generator and cooler in front of the Goosebox, under rear window of truck while traveling. Plenty of room. Cooler is 76QT Ozark Trail, and generator is Westinghouse IGen 4500 dual fuel. cooler and genny are about the same size. I dont keep anything behind or on the side of the Goosbox in the bed. I'm sure I could keep some lower profile items in there, I just normally don't.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  Год назад

      Yes, I think you would lose space. I did vs my Andersen. With the Andersen hitch it sat higher up and I could keep two tires near my tailgate. But now with the Reese it is a bigger box rotating around in the bed and requires the space to be empty. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps.
