@codyfarrias7239 I forget which model we went with. We gave the Gen Y team our specs and they told us which one to get. If I were you, I would call them and see which one they recommend for you.
Thank you Wayward Waggs for sharing about the EXECUTIVE! Glad you're enjoying the product. We've recently re-innovated our coupler on the EXECUTIVE, now called the SnapLatch Coupler, for easier hookup and enhanced safety.
I have a Gen Y hitch that Gen Y custom made for me. It's 5" shorter in height than their stock model. This allows me to level out my rv for towing. I have a flatbed, so chains are a non-issue because I can just reach in and connect them. It's only been installed for about 300 miles, but, so far, no issues. And, I HAVE MY BED BACK! WOOHOO!
We also have the GenY and love it! We finally got the truck bed back! We had a video ready to go on this too. lol. Maybe we will push it out a few weeks. lol. Nice job guys! - Mike and Shelley
I just bought a short bed Ram and have been fretting over what hitch to get when we move up to a 5th wheel. This video just answered a ton of questions for me. Thanks!
We have a Gen-Y on our 2022 GD Solitude 38 ft built end of April 2022 and got a new frame re-design for 2023. Our 5th wheel had a frame redesign that went into effect for the 2023 model. GD told dealership only gooseneck that was covered under warranty was the Gen-Y since it had the bolt design that matched the new frame design for front. We love it and tow with a 2021 F450 DW diesel. We have parked it 90 angle. We have so much bed space and easy to hitch up.
Just bought a Gen-Y love it. I had a BW companion awesome hitch, but I love the Gen-Y. Also for anyone that pulls gooseneck trailers, they already know about hooking chains up and lining up the ball.
Thanks for the video. We have the Pullrite 24K SuperGlide hitch in our truck and I think I want to go with the GenY. I am tired of the bouncing and chucking we get from it. Being able to hook up in different angles will help too.
New Horizons installed my GenY I had shipped and installed it before I picked up my Majestic . Love the room in the bed of my 450 when pulling our 5thwheel. I also put white stripes on my Gen Y to make it easier to line up when hitching. With an 8 foot bed you can really turn sharp if needed.
@@WaywardWaggs I also put a white piece of tape on the top center edge of my tailgate so when I’m backing up I can line up with tape on hitch. When I get close I open tailgate and usually I’m pretty much lined up for the rest of the way.
Cool! I have an 8' bed, so that took care of some of the issues you all had to deal with. I switched to a Gen Y when I was a young man of 71 and did it myself. (Use its own leverage and fulcrum in your favor if you do it yourself.) I did have to use an adaptor plate(s) from Gen Y because of the width difference in my trailer to the capture plate (king pin). The hardest part was getting the fifth-wheel saddle out. I had/have an invert-a-ball so when I am not towing my 5th wheel, I just invert the ball, drop it in its keeper and have a clean flat bed in my pick up. It is so nice. And, like you, the grease is gone!! 🙂. We have towed from NW South Dakota to Orlando Florida, back up to South Dakota, then to San Francisco, up the coast to Florence, Oregon, then wound our way to Glacier National Park, then back home to South Dakota over a ten month period and not one hiccup. I do have to hoist the front end of the trailer pretty high to clear my pickup bed since my ball is right at the bed and the Gen Y is pretty long and low from the trailer. Still love it way better than the old fifth wheel and pin. Thanks for the video and sure looking forward to you hooking up and dropping off video.
Great job Leslie for guiding Dustin really well so he doesn’t hit the Rv while hooking up the hitch. I’m glad it works. I’m skis glad you can get the hitch at a rally. Nice they put it in for you. It does look heavy. It looks nice too! Great video Dustin and Leslie. Thank you for the video!

Many great points! Grease all over is a good one. We had a B&W it worked great but as all other hitches to many moving parts. This one seems a lot more as you stated less maintenance. And the room in the bed of the truck is a major plus. A lot of room for a additional fuel tank.😀 Thanks for sharing your experience with this hitch. Stay safe out there.👏👏🤗❤️
I agree with everything you said about the Gen-Y. I have a fix for making the hitching easier. I took our halo view side markers and instead of putting them on the rig, I used one in the bed of the truck. The camera will rotate almost a full 90 degrees. I mounted one to the bed looking at the ball. I ran a trailer wire to the 4 way in the bed and hooked it to the camera. Now I can see when Im over the ball. Still have an issue getting centered on it, but im usually close the first time. 100% would not trade the Gen-Y for anything else. The ride is way better.
Great video you two. We're glad we have the 8 foot bed and don't have to deal with a slider. Are Lippert air ride has been flawless for over 3 years, but would consider a Gen Y Thanks for the video
We had the Gen-Y installed on our 35’ 2023 Eclipse Attitude when we bought it. We’ve logged over 9000 miles with it and love it! Most of our camping is boondocking and we take our trailer where most won’t go. Being a gooseneck, you just need to watch for the tilt to be sure the front cap doesn’t hit the bed. I’m considering getting a camera for the bed so I can see the ball when hooking up. I currently have a system that works pretty well. I cut a tennis ball in half and attached an arrow to it. I slip the open end of the ball over the tow ball and align it so the arrow is standing straight. Then back in keeping the center of the hitch that I can see in the center of my rear, middle window until I see the arrow tilt toward the cab. Once this is done a few times, you learn when to stop.
I just found your video, very pleased with how y’all have done explaining on your hitch. I just ordered mine the other day should be here in a few days, I also spoke with Jason from Gen-Y , by talking to him, I found out that frame on my rv was a Rino and he told me just which one that I needed. So everybody should make sure of what they need before buying, can’t wait to hear more information from y’all on hooking up and unhooking. 👍😊
We have that one own our Riverstone 42fskg. Had it installed at their place in Nappanee In. A year and a half ago. Love that we got the bed space back in our F450. The downside is you have to get in the bed to hook and unhook the chains and breakaway cable. Also lining it up you have to be more precise to hookup.
We used to have a superglide years ago. A very well built hitch but as you mentioned there were too many cons to it. If I remember correctly you had only 7 degrees either direction from being straight for hookup. The only downside of the ball adapter is its going to put it well behind the rear axle therefore adding weight to it vs the recommended above or forward of the axle. Maybe not enough to cause problems but something to consider.
I have 2 comments. If you stay over night and don't want to unhitch - Place a rounded chock(camper levelers on Amazon) under each truck front wheel and roll forward and bring the front of your truck up a few inches. Very easy! #2. I purchase4d a Bluetooth camera from amazon and place it in my bed aiming at the ball. That way you know exactly when to stop. Once, I am hooked up, I store it in my truck. Great video!
I just installed a Pullrite hitch and I want to correct one statement on your video. You are not suppose to use grease on that hitch. It is stated in the owners manual. All you use is WD40 on the plate, and the top and inside of the slide rails. Using grease can cause that hitch to malfunction. One of the reasons I chose the Pullrite, no grease. I do agree with the lighter weight and getting back space in your truck bed! I look forward to more videos on how everything goes with your new setup.
I couldn't wait to get rid of the PullRite precisely for the reasons you mentioned. Once, I had to back my coach out of the campsite with no REAL connection. Then I could get in straight enough to actually hook up. We now have an Andersen and couldn't be happier. As for the capture plate, our dealer didn't bother to reinstall the capture plate and we drove over 1100 miles without it (yes, I was a newbie). We had to find one while in Kansas City and it was a PITA.
Great seeing the fallen heroes recognized and remembered. May God bring Peace the families and understanding we will someday see them again. Jesus paid the ultimate price giving us a path to Heaven. We are all just passing through while here.
What about for added stress on the the frame and over head bed area of the RV or fifth wheel? Lippert frames are failing due to stress cracking as you may know? Thinking about the transfer of weight from the king pin to the trailer you talked about?
Thank you for the review. I noticed the hitch in some of your videos and was hoping you would do this. I was wondering how this hitch would work with a Ram MegaCab, I have a 3500 Dually MegaCab and don’t want to spend the money on this set up if it was going to be real tight on turns. Close to 90 degrees would work for me. I also have the PullRite auto slider and would like to keep my bed empty and also noticed the moving pivot point when backing, it throws me off most of the time….
We were nervous about the turning radius but we haven't had any issues so far. We have been able to back into every spot without worrying about a cab strike.
Just getting caught up I totally agree with all the pros that you talked about, and I have even read good reviews and seen other channels endorse it. I'm sure they have done all the necessary testing & research. But coming from the transportation industry in my prior job, I just have a real problem raping my head around the fact that You can put 16 to 25 k on a single little ball in the bed of a truck...but that's my issue Safe travel....and great review
Good point but if you think about it, farmers and ranchers have been doing it for a long time with gooseneck hay trailers and horse trailers. I'm not sure how it functions properly either. If the RV ever passes us on the freeway, we'll start panicking. 🤣
I'm thinking of making the switch from my B&W Companion to the Gen Y. I like your pros/cons and wonder what the bed of your truck look like on travel day? Will you have or do you have a video showing pros/cons of what you can put in your bed towing? Thanks for the informative videos, and we also love your fun ones too!!
I think our collab video from last month shows what it looks like. We have 2 inflatable kayaks, life jackets, and generator in the back of the truck though. And still have plenty of room back there 😊
I couldn't find it on Gen Y website but here is a link on Tow Universe. www.towuniverse.com/gen-y-hitch-auto-latch-gooseneck-coupler-lock-infinite-rule-security-gh-5-8lock-trailer-hitch-coupler-lock/
We got a gen Y hitch for our last rig to see if it would help smooth out the ride in the truck. It’s a gooseneck. We traded in that rv but put the old hitch back on it and kept the gen Y hitch. Now the new rig is about 26,000 lbs and the gen Y hitch is rated for 30,000. Our B&W fifth wheel hitch is only rated for 25,000 lbs. we’ve been debating on what to do. Do we sell the B&W and get a Kurt rated for 30,000 or put the gen Y hitch on. The only thing I’m worried about is that “they” say that a gooseneck can hurt the rv. Since it’s such a heavy rv, I’m afraid. But after watching this, I’m now leaning toward the gen Y.
Have there been any differences in driving and handling with moving the weight 6" back. That is my fear. I also have the pullrite and would love to get my bed back. Contemplating putting a hoist in my garage to lift it out.
Thanks for the video. How much did it raise the front of the RV! What was your height before and after installing the Gen-Y. We have little room to spare in our RV shed. Thank you.
We didn't measure before but the spec sheet on a new 340RL says it is 13' 5". They probably account for worst case scenario depending on which hitch the buyer uses.
So I had my neighbor pull in, he has a 2023 redwood with a Gen y hitch on his fifth wheel just like yours except he had a hot shot driver tow his fifth wheel, the hotshot driver pulled in with his tailgate smashed till liverines and you could see when they were unloading the redwood the amount of flex from the tongue weight it just seemed like this hitch cannot withstand any heavier fifth wheel. I honestly after seeing that would not buy one I have an Anderson hitch and it's done me good for the last 5 years however the only one I'd probably buy right now is the reese goose box
Hello. I just found your channel. Great stuff. We've just purchased a 340RL and I'm planning on switching over to a Gen-Y hitch as well. You said that you got the 5.5k version. I was thinking that the 4.5k version would be the best for a 340. What made you pick the 5.5k? Also, have you been happy with the 340 length? We originally wanted a 310, but couldn't pass up a good deal on a used 340. We're worried about getting it into tighter spots. Thanks!
5.5k is what Gen Y recommend for our RV so we went with it. We had a 35 ft. Montana 5th wheel which was a good size but we like the extra space (especially in the bathroom) in the 340RL. The extra 3 feet doesn't make it any more difficult to get in spaces. We have managed well so far.
We love our Alliance Valor 40v13 and have the Gen-Y Executive hitch. Are you going to the Pac Northwest Alliance Rally in Canyonville Oregon this July??
@@WaywardWaggs OK... I have the same truck, same sliding hitch and have been curious about the Gen Y. Cab clearance is a big concern for me. I have one poked out back window on my score card (before the slider). Guess I got pretty comfortable pulling for 20 years with my old truck with an 8' box!
@@Gopher7 We have had the GenY for over 8 months now and have never even come close to a cab strike. We have the adaptor from GenY that moves the ball back six inches. That helps also.
how far is your oem gooseball center from your cab in iches? I want to get a Gen Y but seems so tight even with offset. my gmc is 38" from center to cab, curious what yours is.
Hey guys Just wondering why you could not hook up the fifth wheel at an angle l have a B&W turnover with the fifth wheel. I can hook up at a 45 or 90 degree. Just wondering 😊
We can now with the Gen Y hitch. We couldn't with the Superglide hitch because the capture plate has to be lined up pretty straight. The manufacturer recommends not hooking up at great than a 7 degree angle.
This is a great video but may not be totally correct about transferring the weight to the 5th wheel. The Curt Roto Box on the Brinkley weighs in at 115lbs. This hitch may weigh in at 175 lbs so I transfered 60lbs to the RV, but now you do not need a 200 to 250 lb slide hitch in the truck bed if you have a short bed. The long bed folks or ones with Anderson hitch are about break even with total weight as the still have weight in the 5th wheel box and the truck bed. Your payload seen by the truck is not going to care.
This is the email; I received a few weeks ago addressing that very question. "Good Morning, Thank you for reaching out! We are not approved by Lippert at this time, we actually met with Lippert just a few weeks ago and are working on getting approval here shortly. We have over 11,000 units on the road today and have never experienced any frame issues whatsoever. With the torsion flex built into the unit it would actually help take stress away from the frame rather then add stress onto the frame. We also recommend you take a look into the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act which basically states that a manufacture CAN NOT VOID a warranty just because you put an aftermarket part on their product. IF there was ever an issue the manufacture would have to prove without a doubt that it was our product that caused that specific failure! Through all of our research and customer feedback we have found that if anything our product does not add stress to the frame, it takes it away! Please let us know if you have any further questions and thank you for choosing GEN-Y! "
Ah Man...I was hoping you had a bit more footage from the Rally (other than Leslie dancing in the bed of the truck), when you were trying to record part of this video and the grounds crew kept messing with you with some loud beeping noises. We were sooooo close to getting the Gen Y for our 340RL at the Rally, but went with the MorRyde 20k Rubber Pin Box instead. (also installed for FREE at the Rally!!) :)
You can hook up a 5th wheel on a 90° angle if you need to. I have over 32 years of driving and have done it many times. But I like my goose neck on my 310RL. As for easier to hook up, 5th wheels are way easier
That’s a cool hitch, the biggest advantage is not having a 200 pound hitch in the back of the truck,, we have a B&H companion and can hitch and unhitch at crazy angles. Time to get a big boy long bed dually. The other bummer is having the chains, that’s a pain, don’t the chains bother you? Larry
How is camper frame fill it self with this hitch, brake point is a lot lower. Is someone check with manufacturer if installation of this hitch avoid warranty on frame?
I pull gooseneck trailers with my truck almost everyday, I really don't understand why campers come with fith wheels instead of gooseneck. Anyone know?
@@WaywardWaggs lol We thought you may have cut something out. My wife says you and I can never hang out together because it would not be pretty🤣🤣🤣 I say Life is too short not to laugh Safe travels and happy RVing
Not the case with all Gen-y hitches, they have messed me up twice and I had to pay restocking fee return shipping fee and a custom design fee for which I did not see anything that was custom and still did not work. FYI I think they just charged the custom fee so they could add no returns on custom hitches nothing was custom on hitch. I give them exactly what tongue weight was and first one flex down so much hit bed second one does not flex at all and is as ruff as ride as the factory I replaced with, my wife says this gen-y hitch rides even more ruff than the factory I took off so not everybody has had the same experience with gen-y hitch. I am sure they make some good hitches but not in my case.

What about for added stress on the the frame and over head bed area of the RV or fifth wheel? Lippert frames are failing due to stress cracking as you may know? Thinking about the transfer of weight from the king pin to the trailer you talked about?
We haven't had an issue yet. Most people who are having issues are in Grand Designs.
Love my Gen-Y! Best mod I’ve ever done. Is that hitch lock you have on it?
Yes. It is a bit bulky but we like the security of having a lock on it.
Just getting caught up
I totally agree with all the pros that you talked about, and I have even read good reviews and seen other channels endorse it.
I'm sure they have done all the necessary testing & research.
But coming from the transportation industry in my prior job, I just have a real problem raping my head around the fact that
You can put 16 to 25 k on a single little ball in the bed of a truck...but that's my issue
Safe travel....and great review
Good point but if you think about it, farmers and ranchers have been doing it for a long time with gooseneck hay trailers and horse trailers. I'm not sure how it functions properly either. If the RV ever passes us on the freeway, we'll start panicking. 🤣
Use the reflection on the cap lower to guide yourself to the ball... easy with practice
great information, Thank you
I'm thinking of making the switch from my B&W Companion to the Gen Y.
And still have plenty of room back there 😊
@@WaywardWaggs I will watch it again!! Thank you
Do you happen to have a part number for the hitch lock? We have the gen-y and really like it. Thanks Jeff
I couldn't find it on Gen Y website but here is a link on Tow Universe. www.towuniverse.com/gen-y-hitch-auto-latch-gooseneck-coupler-lock-infinite-rule-security-gh-5-8lock-trailer-hitch-coupler-lock/
@@WaywardWaggs Thank you for the information. Enjoy your new home!
We haven't had any issues so far. We'll let you know how it goes as we put more miles on it.
Cool hitch!👍🏼😎
Have there been any differences in driving and handling with moving the weight 6" back. That is my fear. I also have the pullrite and would love to get my bed back. Contemplating putting a hoist in my garage to lift it out.
We have not had any issues with the ball being back 6 inches. The handling is great and no chucking.
Thanks for the video. How much did it raise the front of the RV! What was your height before and after installing the Gen-Y. We have little room to spare in our RV shed. Thank you.
It only raised it a little and only when hitched up. We are at 13' 4" when hitched up.
@@WaywardWaggs Do you know what your height was before you put this on? Curious how much it raised it in inches. Thanks
@@WaywardWaggs It was the bathroom that convinced my wife that the 340 would be okay :).
We love our Alliance Valor 40v13 and have the Gen-Y Executive hitch.
Are you going to the Pac Northwest Alliance Rally in Canyonville Oregon this July??
Unfortunately no- we will be in Alabama for our granddaughters first birthday 😊
Nice, good job.
How do u like the solar install? Pretty nice setup for sure. Now gen y. U guys rock
The solar install is awesome. We have used it a fee tines now and are getting more comfortable with it.
Hi - how long is your bed? Is it 6’4” ? Thx
Hey folks…. Good information here. One question. Do you have a 6.5’ box with the mega cab, or the 5.5’ box like some 1/2 tons do?
We have the 6.5 box with the mega cab.
Hi Dustin and Leslie. Did GenY at the rally address the frame warranty issue with Lippert?
We didn't talk to Gen Y about that issue. We are not sure if the Gen Y helps with that issue or not. We have not had the issue so we didn't ask.
how far is your oem gooseball center from your cab in iches? I want to get a Gen Y but seems so tight even with offset. my gmc is 38" from center to cab, curious what yours is.
Sorry for the delay - we've been moving. It's 40 inches 😊
@@WaywardWaggs wow 2 in more then mine. Ouch looks like a auto slide for me
Hey guys
Just wondering why you could not hook up the fifth wheel at an angle l have a B&W turnover with the fifth wheel. I can hook up at a 45 or 90 degree. Just wondering 😊
We can now with the Gen Y hitch. We couldn't with the Superglide hitch because the capture plate has to be lined up pretty straight. The manufacturer recommends not hooking up at great than a 7 degree angle.
Good video
This is a great video but may not be totally correct about transferring the weight to the 5th wheel. The Curt Roto Box on the Brinkley weighs in at 115lbs. This hitch may weigh in at 175 lbs so I transfered 60lbs to the RV, but now you do not need a 200 to 250 lb slide hitch in the truck bed if you have a short bed. The long bed folks or ones with Anderson hitch are about break even with total weight as the still have weight in the 5th wheel box and the truck bed. Your payload seen by the truck is not going to care.
how hard was it to swap from the RV dealer provided 5th wheel standard hitch to this one?
We bought it at the Alliance Rally and Gen Y installed it for us. It is definitely not a one person job.
Does Lippert (the frame/chassis maker) recognize this hitch as far as frame warranty?
Yes. As far as I know, the only one Lipert won't back is the Andersen hitch.
This is the email; I received a few weeks ago addressing that very question.
"Good Morning,
Thank you for reaching out!
Ya. The beeping was just too overpowering. We couldn't use any of it with audio.
You can hook up a 5th wheel on a 90° angle if you need to. I have over 32 years of driving and have done it many times. But I like my goose neck on my 310RL. As for easier to hook up, 5th wheels are way easier
Yes, you can do 90° angles - we couldn't because we had a short bed truck. So 80°-85° was about all we could do.
Larry
No. The chains don't bother us at all. We like having a single rear wheel truck. It is easier yo navigate and park when we are unhitched.
How is camper frame fill it self with this hitch, brake point is a lot lower. Is someone check with manufacturer if installation of this hitch avoid warranty on frame?
There are no known warranty issues with this hitch that we know of.
I pull gooseneck trailers with my truck almost everyday, I really don't understand why campers come with fith wheels instead of gooseneck. Anyone know?
Some are starting to use Gen Y at the factory now but not very many.
How does this compare to the Reese Goose Box?
We have never had the Reese so we can't do a good comparison.
The Reese goose Box only goes to 20,000 lbs. And you have to fill the air bag up.
Dustin Can’t believe you past the opportunity to make a joke about lubing your ball 🤣🤣🤣
🤣 I did but it was very inappropriate so I had to cut it.
@@WaywardWaggs lol
We thought you may have cut something out.
My wife says you and I can never hang out together because it would not be pretty🤣🤣🤣
I say Life is too short not to laugh
Safe travels and happy RVing
In that case, we definitely need to hang out.
Is your bed length 6’ 4”
Yes
One con you missed was having to use safety chains
We don't really see that as a con. It is not an inconvenience for us. I am tall enough to hook them up without crawling into the truck bed.
Thats nowhere near 80 degrees in you parking lot test. Looks much closer to 50 to me!
Must have been the camera angle.
👍🇺🇲
All these issues and band aids can be avoided with one simple thing. An 8ft bed. lol.
Just run a lube plate no grease 🤦
Lube plate is not compatible with the Pull Rite slider hitch because of the capture plate.
Hi - how long is your bed? Is it 6’4” ? Thx
Yes. It is the short bed.
