Yeah, this was a bad choice of a first impression. Try Pursuit of Vikings or Twilight of the Thunder God. It did inspire a pretty fascinating diacussion, though. Don't give up on Amon guys!
In my opinion not the best song to start with for Amon Amarth. Very cool to see that you guys can listen to this, keep an open mind and try to be as objective as possible. Try Deceiver of the Gods or Twilight of the Thunder God. Both are way more clean/crisp. Embrace of the Endless Ocean is also a great song and a personal favorite of mine. And as always, please do Stargazer by Rainbow.
That was the song that introduced me to amon amarth haha i wouldn't say its one of my favorites but its a song i love cause it was the one that introduced me to an awesome band
Same! My thought was at least the German version of this song would have been better because the production quality is so much higher, but Pursuit definitely should have been number one.
Yo, people need to stop recommending the worst possible entry point songs to get into a particular band. This is ridiculous. I was an Amon Amarth fan for a while before I ever heard this song. If this had been the first song I heard of theirs I wouldn't have gotten into them.
Exactly. Granted, the first time I listened to Amon Amarth was when the first album came out. So, this song actually made me a fan... But I would not suggest this for people who are not even metalheads, who wants to check the band out.
Cody Clarke My thoughts exactly. This has happened a few times already (the one that stand out to me was Exodus- Toxic Waltz... not only dated, but no real content...terrible choice for initial exposure IMO). In this case, probably should’ve chosen something off of Jomsviking for their first listen and they would’ve been more into it.
Ancient sign of coming storm, pursuit of Vikings, ruins to my memory, cry of the blackbirds, dragons flight across the waves and so many other songs they could have gone with. Personally Fate of Norms and With Odin on our side are my top two Amon Amarth albums, nothing but bangers
Wow, why would they pick this one. I mean Twilight of the Thunder God I think would have been everyone's universal choice. Or I mean even one of their other big hits (In Pursuit of Vikings etc). One of the notable differences between this and say Twilight of the Thunder Gods is the production quality and the quality of the vocals. Its still death metal vocals but its...cleaner? The growls are less jagged if that makes any sense. Its a shame cause they are an awesome band, they need to give them another shot for sure. Its promising that they didn't hate it though...
Amon Amarth is a huge influence on the Metal genre. I agree with many others on here that this is a very peculiar choice of a song though... They are one of those bands that had a rough start until they really crafted their sound. This is from their very first professional album, back in 1997. If you give them another shot, and I think you should, do the classic "Twilight of the Thunder God", or the single from their newest album, "First Kill".
Charles Lizana I agree with you man, i love this guys, but they have a baf choice of the songs, since pursuit of vikings amon amarth just fucking rules!
I don't really listen to Anon Amarth much any more but id agree that their sound has developed a lot since this song. The vocals were pretty harsh compared to now.
As a die hard AA fan, I can't agree with you ^^ AA until Faith of Norns (Maybe also With Oden on our side) was incredible then they started to repeat themselves unfortunately... since they sell huge load of CD and Merch since Versus The World, their production got better and better.... but you can't say that quite all songs of The Avenger, The Crusher and Vs the world are not classic ones! Then, still as a diehard AA fan that saw them 11 times live, you can't say that they had huge influence in Metal. Fredrik Andersson's first band "A Canorous Quintet" changed Melodic Death Metal back in the 90s but nope, not AA. They only do what they love at a great level! PS: You just gave me envy to listen to The Avenger + The Crusher :D
I'm a huge fan of amon amarth, i love all their work, the first band that i listened to all of the discography, faith of norns was when they discovered what the band really is today, it's not repeating it's discovering their sound, but i love it all since the first one
I was really excited to see a video of you guys doing Amon Amarth in my feed, but once the song started and Johan's growls came in even I was thrown off by it. This isn't really the best introduction to the band since Johan's growls are so much more crisp and clean sounding now and the production to their later material is much much better. If you guys end up giving Amon Amarth another try I suggest the songs Runes To My Memory (my personal favorite), Guardians Of Asgaard, or Cry Of The Black Birds.
Yeahh.. just listen to the early stuff of any band, the signature sound which they had or developed over the last 90% of their career is mainstream bullshit. :P
Amon Amarth's early stuff is a lot more abrasive but glad you guys gave this a listen, their 2006 - present stuff has much better production and clearer vocals (Twilight of the Thunder God and Valhalla Awaits Me would be better songs to check out in the future). "Viking metal" is a debatable term but Amon Amarth doesn't really classify, the most accurate definition would be combining mid-paced black metal with folkier melodies and choirs, atmospheric keyboards, and traditional folk singing (along with harsh vocals of course). Hammerheart by Bathory is considered the first viking metal album. Hope you guys can listen to Roots of the Mountain by Enslaved! (Some of their earlier stuff would be considered viking metal too!)
I Don’t understand why this keeps happening. Why suggest a 20 year old, under-produced option? These guys aren’t elitists that only like old songs that sound like they were recorded in the garage. They never dig it. Why lead them this way? It’s not the way to grab folks of their background. Just stop.
Fangalatic I’m not. I stand by it 100%. You missed the point, which wasn’t to say the song is bad. Just that it wasn’t polished enough for these guys to dig it.
Fangalatic You miss his point so hard that you actually give him a perfect example for his statement. It's not about if the song is good or not, it's if it's suited for someone who is getting into metal in 2018. To us it's epic because of it's history, but that's not a factor for someone who doesn't know the band or its legacy
Lol Fangalatic you are literally a prime example of what Shameful was arguing... Compared to their more recent albums, it is not produced as well, regardless if its a masterpiece, and that's a fact. It would probably be better to suggest to these guys, who are just dabbling in metal, something more approachable. Also so much judgement from you for a simple valid point. I feel like you should be ashamed of YOUR comment!
i *love* amon amarth, but this is not the song i would pick to introduce them, i would pick way of vikings, or first kill, or twilight of the thunder god. the vocals on this album are not well produced, it's old. it's not a knock on amon amarth, this is like, their first album, 100 dollar budget kind of stuff.
how much money do you think good studio's give bands on their first recording? you realize that amon amarth had to pay for their studio time right. you don't get a signed deal before recording an album. 100 dollars is hyperbole, but it was not a well produced album.
What the fuck there are literally 30 other songs that are way better then way of vikings or first kill. That entire album was utter garbage and doesnt come close to Surtur Rising or twilight of thunder god.
Fangalatic you're coming on a little strong on your responses to this. OP wasn't talking about a literal situation, it was a broken down explanation for someone who isn't familiar with production of metal albums early on in a bands lifetime. I agree with the original sentiment, amon amarth are best taken from a new album angle then work your way back to their more abrasive/underground sounds.
OMG who the hell is telling you to pick this song??? I really wish you guys would ask me before listening to metal. lolol...please listen to Cry of the BlackBirds or Runes to my Memory.... both are off WIth Odin on our SIde. Victorious march is off their first album , they havent even found their stride yet at least for a few more albums. OWELL....
Its their best song in my opinion...I love how the line "Charge your horses across the filed!!!" goes along with the double bass and guitars...its like you can feel the horses charging across the filed just like he says! Fukin love that shit!
When I saw the video I was like "oh boi they did some Amon Amarth can't wait to see that" but then I saw that it was an old song and I thought "f*ck, they will hate it... Dirty production and screaming vocals"... It almost looks like this song was recommended by someone who hates Amon Amarth and wanted to make sure that they will be disgusted for life with this band... If you guys want to give a second chance to the mighty Amon Amarth, I would suggest something more recent (2008 - today)
Exactly, it's almost always the case with the more extreme genres, the older the record the shittier the sound, except with the black metal - their sound is always shitty (intentionally badly produced).
Haha yeah, this is a super weird choice to recommend someone if they want to get into Amon Amarth. Should absolutely start with Twilight of the Thunder God, or something from With Oden on Our Side
Mechanical Cat It maybe is but I guess what a long time metalhead likes is not the same what they would like. I would recommend the bands and the songs of that bands that have the most groove, that are catchy, that are newer (good production quality) and with good lyrics because that's what they like.
I went and saw amon amarth live the lead singer shouted me out and gave me tons of stuff for knowing there new stuff word for word and being the only black guy there
How did you pick this particular song??? Twilight of the Thunder God, In pursuit of Vikings, with Oden by our side!!! Any one of these.....just awesome!
You guys have to watch the documentary "Metal: A Headbangers Journey", there is a metal flow chart that discusses the genres :) also..its an amazing film
Woah guys!!!!!! You totally picked the wrong song from these guys. You should take a look at either "Twilight of the Thunder God" or "Guardians of Asgard". Trust ME!!!!
Great band... but as stated by Elite Hunter88 definitely the wrong song to start off with. I would lean more to Cry of the Blackbirds. It's got a great riff throughout and really draws you into the Viking Metal that is Amon Amarth.
Gotta add my voice to the crowd calling for a different Amon Amarth song reaction. My choice would be Twilight of the Thundergod. It’s more epic, more melodic, the vocals improve. I used to feel bad that I haven’t gone back to older Amon Amarth but now not so much. It’s like they haven’t fully developed their sound yet. Their last few albums have been great though
Amon amarth - cry of the black birds or twilight of the thunder god ...... this song is old & production & vocals weren't mature yet for this band, so i knew you guys would say this song is bad lol
@YaBoiSquiggle They just did amon amarth, they have done opeth, they have done mastadon, they are ready. Everyone keeps saying "they are not ready for Death" when they have listened to way more harsh vocals. Death has way more melody, poetry for lyrics, and complexity than pretty much any other band they have done reactions to(maybe with the exception of the tool songs). Anything before the Human era would be out of their taste for metal, basing that opinion on watching almost all of their metal reaction videos. That being said, I really think they would appreciate and or really enjoy pretty much any album from Human and on.
Yea man, Crystal Mountain, Sacred Serenity, Zero Tolerance, Trapped In A Corner, Overactive Imagination, ITP, Lack Of Comprehension or Suicide Machine. Any of those for me.
It's not the harshness of Death that I think would throw them off, its the jazzy unpredictability. TSoP was the first Death album I ever heard and it took me ages for my ears to adjust to it because it just seemed so all over the place; Death can sound very incoherent and even random to a first time listener. To me, Crystal Mountain represents all aspects of Death very well, without being too much. It was the first Death song that I 'got' on my first listen, I thought it was the best thing I'd ever heard and was ultimately what got me into the band.
Amon Amarth has been one of my favorite bands for a few years now but I feel like you should’ve tried something a bit more recent so you guys could get into it a bit more. A few songs to try for a second chance (if you decide to do them again) are: Twilight of the Thunder God The Pursuit of Viking Deciever of the Gods First Kill And a personal favorite of mine: No Fear for the Setting Sun This band was the one that got me more into the growling and more harsh vocals. Took me a little bit at first but I eventually got into it. And maybe if you give them another shot you guys might be able to get more into them! Also react to Ghost! :)
Absolutely love George’s take on metal. Getting lost in the music and the image painted by the lyrics is essential to the journey of every metalhead. So awesome to watch you guys grow in music up to this point.
Fangalatic This song is great it's just not the best song to start people off on a band, -- especially guys who aren't into growls yet. I feel like one of their newer, melodic anthems would have been a much better choice.
The real problem is you chose an Amon Amarth song from their first album. While I personally still think it's great, it's nothing in terms of production /sound quality compared to their more recent stuff. You NEED to give these guys a second chance with more recent stuff. I highly recommend "Twilight of the Thunder God". Another great choice would be "Cry of the Black Birds". Both songs so much better than this, it's not even close in my opinion. Please don't give up on this great band! As usual though, I love your honest review. Massive respect. :)
Valhalla Awaits or Thousand Years Of Opression are 2 of the best Amon Amarth songs in my opinion, but those guys have so much great stuff that its really hard to pick the best song :) But i just personally like the message in the lyrics of Thousand Years Of Opression
Wouldnt be my first choice for Amon Amarth song to play for someone who never listened to them, would love to see reaction on Twilight of the Thunder God, Deciever of Gods, Asator or Guardians of Asgaard, great video nevertheless
You got it! And I love you for that! I know I'm late, but f**k it. Most of my live I've been late. And still here I am. Keep up the shit you do. Big love hugs from Germany.
Love the fact that they chose Amon Amarth, but for the simple fact that these guys are not metal heads, this was the worse possible song to choose. I would have went with Death in Fire or Thousand Years of Oppression (best song they have written) for a introduction song. Whoever requested this song to them needs to be open hand smacked in the mouth.
Opeth - The Drapery Falls Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize Riverside - Egoist Hedonist / Left Out Gojira - The Gift of Guilt Death - Scavenger of Human Sorrow
Hey guys, just discovered you! I am in aboslute awe of how far you go to be as objective as possible, It's hard to balance objectivity with what people ask you to listen to, and as hard as it is, you guy do so with class.... watching your video reactions has helped me rediscover some of my first reactions to metal music both vicariously and retro-actively. keep it up!
I love Amon Amarth but this is a weak choice for a first song. Johan's vocals have improved a lot since this. Try something newer like Twilight of the Thunder God or First Kill
i think easiest one for them would be gods of war arise the one i started with ... but if we are talking sick riff and i think they are allready able to handle such things gfiven they liked gojira etc... would be cry of the black birds
I think I speak for pretty much everyone here: could you please react to a different Amon Amarth song that actually shows how good they are (pretty much anything off With Oden on Our Side, Twilight of the Thunder God, Father of the Wolf, First Kill, etc) instead of judging them on how they sounded in their earlier years when they hadn't found their sound yet. Also, no Amon Amarth aren't Viking metal, they are a melodic death metal band that does songs about Vikings, Norse Mythology and ancient Norse culture. Viking refers to a profession and is actually a verb not a noun (as in to go Viking) not all Norse people were Vikings and not all Vikings were Norse
Chris Thorley, I agree except please remove father of the wolf and first kill from your suggestions, what the hell is wrong with you? I'm not one of these elitists that thinks "only the old shit or you suck". But father of the wolf is probably the worst, most basic boring song on that album, and the first kill certainly isn't the best on that album either and that album as a whole already isn't very good.
Love you guys! You should give the band Death a try, if you do definitely recommend the song "Spirit Crusher". I personally think you would love them, every one of their drummers have been incredible but on this album in particular he goes absolutely nuts. Think you would definitely appreciate George 👍That being said every other aspect of the band is phenomenal as well, guitar players are nuts, singer also plays guitar and he's absolutely nuts, bass player is on fire and it's just the perfect combination of badass riffs and break downs that I think you guys would love. Keep up what you do, love watching you guys!
You guys are amazing! The open-mindedness that the two of you go into these songs with is beyond what most people would be able to muster up. Hats off to the two of you. Great channel.
Twilight of the thundergod would have been a better song to react to since its a bit easier to get into not to mention it has a really kick ass solo. Personally that song was the song that really got me into the more hardcore genres of metal.
Good band, terrible choice of song imo. If you give them a second chance, do Twilight of the Thunder God. Also, hopefully you can get to Blind Guardian soon since I've seen it requested a good bit, but please do a poll for song choice with them. They have like 30 years of song library almost, so there's a lot to choose from.
Because most known ones are most known for a reason and are good songs to introduce to non metal heads (or people who are recently getting into metal).
Yeah, who are the idiots demanding Victorious March? WTF? Why not... DEATH IN FIRE ?!?!?!?!?!?!? Death in Fire is THE go-to choice when you want to show someone what Amon Amarth is about. That song is basically the "Viking party anthem"... First you drink a lot while listening to Death in Fire, then you bash each other's heads in, then you drink some more, until the sun comes up.
This just shows how fucking reduced you are lol. Every noob listens to these songs cuz they are the most popular. Why tf no one ever mentions stuff like Hermond's Ride To Hell or As Long As The Ravens Fly? Because some of you fakeasses pretend to love a band while only listening to the hits lol. Plus Victorious March is fucking stellar.
If you do another Amon Amarth song, I would highly suggest “Embrace the Endless Ocean.” It is a little slower in pacing, but it’s SO EPIC! One of my favorite closing tracks on an album, of all time.
this was probably the worst introduction song to amon amarth, though it happens to be a favorite of mine, its not a song for someone new to amon. this album was their first obviously, but the production wasnt near as good, and johan was still finding his voice. ryan, george..you guys need to do something different from this band...maybe something from twilight of the thunder god, or something that era to now
I agree. When I saw this was their next reaction I was like uhhhh this is a long one. A bit older (though my fav album as well), not as fine tuned, not as crisp as today. Give them another try with something from Vs the World or With Oden by Our Side
HOPE YOU SEE THIS!!! Found this channel yesterday and no joke spent the next 4 HOURS STRAIGHT watching every video I could (especially the logic one's cuz he's my favorite artist and has been since 2012) Most reaction channels pretty much just watch/listen to the video/song and say some bullshit you guys add so much more and I love the in depth analysis of every line. Keep doing you awesome channel with 2 awesome dudes! Also a suggestion I think at the end of every video you guys should suggest to us a song or an artist to check out so we can hear some of the stuff you guys listen to. Also since you guys are now logic fans you should react to common logic one of my favs another good one is young jedi and to absolutely melt over lyricism check out his 2013 XXL Freestyle and cypher no doubt you guys will really enjoy! Much love guys keep killin it!
You guys are fucking fire! In all sincerity, thanks for using this platform to open people’s ears to stuff they never would have come across. True props fellas. Would love to have you guys review Between The Buried and Me... pretty sure they’ll sit pretty on the playlist. 🤘
If you really want to learn a bit about metal, may I suggest Metal: A Headbangers Journey. Real good watch, it really will show you the different genres out there and there is much more to it since the filming.
So glad you guys listened to Amon Amarth! Please do another one of their songs... I recommend "first kill," "twilight of the thunder god," or "the hero." Also. How many sub-genres of metal are there? As many as there are metal bands....
Also, Johan Hegg has the best stage banter ever: "I want you all to sing along with the next one! It doesn't matter if you don't know the words, it's death metal!".
Amon Amarth is one of my favorite bands, but just from seeing the title of the video I knew you guys weren't gonna like this song that much, because this is a terrible recommendation for an introduction to the band, as any material from their first album would have been. Amon Amarth is an absolute powerhouse of modern metal, but they had a very rough start before they really found their sound. If you guys are willing to give this band a second chance with material from their more recent albums, I'd probably recommend War of the Gods (from Surtur Rising), Varyags of Miklagaard (from Twilight of the Thunder God) or Under Siege (from Deceiver of the Gods) I really appreciate how even if you didn't like the song that much you tried to fin things to like about it, that's one of the things I like the most about you two.
I agree - I do dig Amon Amarth's older stuff, but for new listeners I'd recommend newer stuff from the band. Like "The Way of Vikings", "Destroyer of The Universe", or "Shapeshifter"
Victorious March is easily one of their better songs, but it suffers from being quite old, and the "basement recording studio" they used isn't exactly representative of good sound (today).
There's something primal about this song that draws me. When I'm harvesting firewood from the forest hauling logs over my shoulder back to the truck and the suck is strong - I'll put the Amon Amarth into the earbuds to get me through. I think to myself how long have we been doing this same archaic process though human history. Whether it's death and destruction or chopping firewood, Amon is a connection to that reality still lingering in our DNA. btw, Warriors of the North is my latest Amon kick
Oh man.... im the biggest Amon Amarth fan and when i saw youre doing this song i thought whaaa? This song... is good but for advanced AA fans not really as a first impression.
I've been suggesting Amon Amarth forever, I'm so upset that someone suggested 1998 Amon Amarth that sounds like a demo, they honestly have by far the best production quality of any present day band along with still making the best/most true to their style of music Who the hell suggested this song lol I love the song but purely because I love the band, this isn't an introduction to the band... really hope they do another reaction to a a song off of anything from with oden on our side and on Also Johan sounds nothing like this anymore:(
Too each their own i guess, I love the album but I definitely don't think it's their best For me personally Jomsviking is their best album Imma sucker for a concept album Also Johan sounds powerful but not clear and the drums don't cut through the mix on this album
I'm with you Brian. I didn't care for the production values of some of their early work. I think this is another time they just picked the wrong track for the 1st go around.
TesseracT - Of Matter (live at sphere studios) Voyager - Hyperventilating Twelve Foot Ninja - Coming For You Periphery - The Bad Thing Northlane - Quantum Flux Architects - These Colours Don't Run
Did you guys ever react to Death? You should totally start out with "Without Judgement"! -A "growl"(ish) vocal, but properly pronunciation; CHECK -Surprising/interesting songwriting and structure; CHECK -Top level instrumental performance (especially guitar); CHECK -Drums loud and clear / not buried in the mix; CHECK -Possibly mind blowing moment in the song; CHECK -Variety (aggression as well as beautiful harmonies); CHECK It'll be more worthwhile than the majority of bands with growled vocals you have heard so far, I can promise you that!
Respect how much effort and respect you put into your reactions, regardless of if you're feeling it or not. Truly analytical and open-minded. I may have said it before, but would love to see you react to some Shawn James!
This song wasn't a good first choice for Amon Amarth. "Runes to my Memory", "Twilight of the Thunder God" or "The Pursuit of Vikings" would have been better.
As much as I love Amon Amarth this really isn't the best song for someone new to Amon Amarth. (Or death metal in general) I'd recommend anything from the latest album Jomsviking, Raise your horns, One thousand burning arrows, Wanderer, etc.
A couple things. Love your videos, guys. Keep it up! I subscribe. It is so great to see non-metalheads (but open minded folks) try out metal, even the heavier stuff! Side note, Viking metal is a subset of Black Metal that quit signing about Satan and started signing about paganism and Viking lore, in a nutshell. This is melodic death metal (melodeath or MDM is common nickname) with the theme always about Vikings. Second, as a metalhead, I do like the occasional hip-hop, but a bit more rare in what really grabs me. I need advice on stuff that is groovy, jammy, where the rapper/lyricist isn't about 'spitting lyrics' so much as flowing to a great beat. Help me out. Only thing I know I loved was old Tribe Called Quest (I'm in my 40's) and De La Sould.
Who the hell suggests this stuff?!? Such an awesome band and they give these guys the worst song possible for the first impression...youtube metalhead, why you do this???
Yeah, this was fucked up! I don't know why this was even suggested, and how they came to choose this song, so confusing. I know they will like Amon Amarth if they just hear one of their newer more melodic songs!!
Alleyezonjimz indeed man, they've got so many good, melodic, anthemic songs in the last 10 years, and also good and clear sounding songs...also some videos like the one for "father of the wolf" are worth checking...
I don't know if they polled what song to do or not. I can only assume they didn't because I can't ever see why this song would even get suggested by one person with how many htrat song choices there are for this band.
Not even close to the best Amon Amarth song to start with. It's an earlier song of theirs and their later albums are amazing. The production and progression as well as melody just gets better and better and you shouldn't give up on them. They have so much epic shit you would definitely be more into. One of the top metal bands around without a doubt.
only gojira gig i found close to you guys is in mexico just south of san diago, in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico on the 28th of april. It says it'll take you 5 n a half hours to drive there. After seeing how enthusiastic you guys are about them, I'd say it's worth the drive . Only came across you guys last night and have probably watched nearly 15/20 of your videos. Real open mindedness, proper respect that. I've seen alot of comments saying similar things, but you've reminded me and brought back that feeling and excitment for why i fiirst fell in love with these band's in the first place. Nice one guys Lemme know if you decide to go to that gig
Ah, but they dress like Vikings, all their songs are about Vikings, all their music videos are about Vikings, they sometimes have Viking battles on-stage, their name comes from lord of the rings, and they've even made a skit, claiming that they are Viking metal.
Yup. Saying that this is "Viking metal" is like saying that Nile is "Pre Alexander Ancient Egyptian metal" and that Ex Deo are "Roman Rebuplic/Empire metal".
Amon Amarth - Twilight of The Thunder God
Deceiver Of The Gods would have been perfect, react to that video.
Yeah, I would have had them do Raise Your Horns
Amon Amarth "The Pursuit of Vikings", might have been a better choice for a 1st song.
Twilight of the Thunder God would have been perfect.
yeah but still the 2nd best choice hehe
Also, I’m thinking Twilight Of The Thunder God might have been the first Amon Amarth track for these guys?
Agree
Yeah, fully agreed. Twilight of the Thunder God or maybe Guardians of Asgard.
Yes totally.
jar yes dood absolutely they should have done that track first. It’s way more accessible
@@jessel3621 Hey it sings your praises.
Yo, people need to stop recommending the worst possible entry point songs to get into a particular band. This is ridiculous. I was an Amon Amarth fan for a while before I ever heard this song. If this had been the first song I heard of theirs I wouldn't have gotten into them.
Totally agree on Nightwish, I love them too and Nemo has to be it for sure.
Cody Clarke Couldn't have said it any better! So damn frustrating
How were you an amon amarth fan long before hearing this? One of their best, a classic. That's embaraasing.
Guys, instead of recommending the deep cuts, try to generally start them off with the hits lol shoulda listened to Twilight of the Thunder God
I woulda gone with Death in Fire imo
Ancient sign of coming storm, pursuit of Vikings, ruins to my memory, cry of the blackbirds, dragons flight across the waves and so many other songs they could have gone with.
Personally Fate of Norms and With Odin on our side are my top two Amon Amarth albums, nothing but bangers
Agreed!!! Raise Your Horns would have been a better first visit to Amon Amarth
Vs the world and later albums should be a bit easier to get into, but thats just my thoughts
Twilight of the thunder god-Amon Amarth
Joshua Olveda this!!!
Oh please no....
love that song
Fury of a divine amon amarth
Not a fan
Wow, why would they pick this one. I mean Twilight of the Thunder God I think would have been everyone's universal choice. Or I mean even one of their other big hits (In Pursuit of Vikings etc). One of the notable differences between this and say Twilight of the Thunder Gods is the production quality and the quality of the vocals. Its still death metal vocals but its...cleaner? The growls are less jagged if that makes any sense.
Its a shame cause they are an awesome band, they need to give them another shot for sure. Its promising that they didn't hate it though...
thank you! who the hell recommends songs? im fully on board with any song from Twilight
Out of all the Amon Amarth songs they picked this 😆
Andres Luna I think Valhal Awaits or Deciever of the Gods would have been awesome, especially the video for Deciever.
For the stab wounds in our back!
My thought exactly. Why, Vegas. Why.
@@starr0401 because they are morons
@@andrearabar3252 wow, you're a salty little shit huh?
Nope. It has always been Johan! ;)
Okay Muck
They could of picked a better song. I would say tattered banner and bloody flags, slaves of fear, death in fire, thousand years of oppression.
100% agree. Weird introduction to Amon Amarth.
perceptiblepain tbabf is one of their best!
Buckeyes Bengals Reds hell yeah, my favorite song.
Should have done Twightlight of the Thunder God, it's so much better
This x1000! "Twilight of the Thunder God" is honestly one of the few Amon Amarth songs I listen to on a regular basis.
James this is way better. Classic true amon amarth. With raw passion. Not the commercial stuff
Fucking mainstream poser.
About half of the album Surtur rising sounds better to me than twilight of the thundergod
Yeahh.. just listen to the early stuff of any band, the signature sound which they had or developed over the last 90% of their career is mainstream bullshit.
Just stop.
Exactly.
Fangalatic I’m not. I stand by it 100%. You missed the point, which wasn’t to say the song is bad. Just that it wasn’t polished enough for these guys to dig it.
Fangalatic You’re fun. Let’s be friends.
Asator!!!
Honestly I would have them listen to bastards of a lying breed as their first song
OWELL....
FallofSeraphs or „under the northern star“
Cry of the Black Birds is probably be the best song to intro people into Amon Amarth.
Nykut7 totally agree, saw Amon and got super excited, was hoping for something like Twilight of the Thunder God
Exactly, it's almost always the case with the more extreme genres, the older the record the shittier the sound, except with the black metal - their sound is always shitty (intentionally badly produced).
No this song is fucking awesome.
I went and saw amon amarth live the lead singer shouted me out and gave me tons of stuff for knowing there new stuff word for word and being the only black guy there
That sucks.
I want to be black too :(
You know they condone
The Sons Of Odin.
Which are racist at there core.
Well actual vikings were racists as well.
But most races were back then
@@chrishanson8496 I've never heard them condoning or supporting them and Google gave me no results. Care to share where you saw that?
GUARDIAAAANS
GUARDIANS OF AAAASGAAAAAARD \m/
Guardians of Asgaard would be a great second introduction to Amon Amarth, check it out! ^^
Is this a new Marvel phase 4 movie? If it isn't, it definitely should be.
Hell yeah! I would recommend a great theme song I know =)
I second this! Anything from twilight of the thunder god.
Yup!!! A good intro for AA.
I'm curious why this was the first Amon Amarth song that you guys listened to rather than any of their hits.
How did you pick this particular song??? Twilight of the Thunder God, In pursuit of Vikings, with Oden by our side!!! Any one of these.....just awesome!
Djairo Merino seriously, I didn't see anybody recommend this track at all, and I've been pushing for amon amarth and voting up comments!
LakeVermilionDreams , any other song would have been better for a first time listen...How about Tattered Banners Bloody flags?
@@cobracommander3529 This might be my favorite AA song. Well worth a reaction, or something off Berserker like Raven's Flight or Fafner's Gold.
You guys have to watch the documentary "Metal: A Headbangers Journey", there is a metal flow chart that discusses the genres :) also..its an amazing film
Amazing documentary loved it
@zachsperry8102 the follow up "Global Metal" is equally amazing!
Woah guys!!!!!! You totally picked the wrong song from these guys. You should take a look at either "Twilight of the Thunder God" or "Guardians of Asgard". Trust ME!!!!
Elite Hunter88 I second this.
Definitely
Awwww good choices mate!!
You don't seem to get what these guys are into. You need to start out with easier stuff
Death - Symbolic. Or Kreator - Enemy of God. Keep up the great work guys
Death - Crystal Mountain! Or anything from Symbolic or The sound of perseverance.
pepepito3000 Trapped In A Corner or ANYTHING from Individual Thought Patterns!!
Second Crystal Mountain, I think the other Death songs might be a bit much first time
@YaBoiSquiggle They just did amon amarth, they have done opeth, they have done mastadon, they are ready.
I don't understand why they would pick this song amon amarth have certainly got better with age
killallsuvivors well they couldn't get any worse
My thoughts exactly. This album is like 20 years old
Twilight of a Thunder god or Deciever of the gods are perfect songs to start with
idk, its way down on the first page of yt searching 'amon amarth', besides this video
people who aren't AA fans apparently
Amon Amarth has been one of my favorite bands for a few years now but I feel like you should’ve tried something a bit more recent so you guys could get into it a bit more.
A few songs to try for a second chance (if you decide to do them again) are:
Twilight of the Thunder God
The Pursuit of Viking
Deciever of the Gods
First Kill
And a personal favorite of mine:
No Fear for the Setting Sun
This band was the one that got me more into the growling and more harsh vocals. Took me a little bit at first but I eventually got into it. And maybe if you give them another shot you guys might be able to get more into them!
Also react to Ghost! :)
Robert Vaccarini honestly, anything from Fate of Norns would have been better than this. But I absolutely agree about Pursuit of Vikings.
Maybe Guardians of Asgaard
Fate of Norns itself would have been a better intro. They would have really liked the drums on that track.
Absolutely love George’s take on metal. Getting lost in the music and the image painted by the lyrics is essential to the journey of every metalhead. So awesome to watch you guys grow in music up to this point.
Of all the GOOD Amarth's tracks, someone got them to pick the shittiest one of them all. Great.... Just fucking great.
There are much better songs. This album had bad recording quality
Fangalatic This song is great it's just not the best song to start people off on a band, -- especially guys who aren't into growls yet. I feel like one of their newer, melodic anthems would have been a much better choice.
Might be a classic song, but their new stuff is just far better.
Gozew StuffNThings
You are a pleb newer Amon is kinda cringy along with alot of their middle school fans.
Death-Flesh and the Power it Holds!!!!
By far the best Death song. Spirit crusher is also a good choice albeit not as popular.
Spirit Crusher is THE most popular song on that album...
One of my favorites. Pull the plug is my favorite, but flesh and the power it holds is a close second
It's about god damn time to hear them react to this masterpiece.
Sleep - Dragonaut
Smooth metal that will make you feel like a badass listening to it. I think you guys will like this one.
Arch enemy- nemesis
The real problem is you chose an Amon Amarth song from their first album. While I personally still think it's great, it's nothing in terms of production /sound quality compared to their more recent stuff. You NEED to give these guys a second chance with more recent stuff. I highly recommend "Twilight of the Thunder God". Another great choice would be "Cry of the Black Birds". Both songs so much better than this, it's not even close in my opinion. Please don't give up on this great band!
As usual though, I love your honest review. Massive respect. :)
+1 for cry of the black birds! Add Valhalla Awaits to that list, too!
Valhalla Awaits or Thousand Years Of Opression are 2 of the best Amon Amarth songs in my opinion, but those guys have so much great stuff that its really hard to pick the best song :) But i just personally like the message in the lyrics of Thousand Years Of Opression
The Grudge By tool!!!!!!
Judith by a Perfect Circle!!!!!!!
This is like equivalent to listening to "Rocka Rolla" as your first introduction to Judas Priest.
Well, better than Turbo.
Opeth - The Drapery Falls
Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize
Riverside - Egoist Hedonist / Left Out
Gojira - The Gift of Guilt
Death - Scavenger of Human Sorrow
Daniel Domínguez Agree that "Scavenger Of Human Sorrow" or "Bite The Pain" would be the way to go.
Anything from Symbolic or the Sound of Perseverance
Hey guys, just discovered you! I am in aboslute awe of how far you go to be as objective as possible, It's hard to balance objectivity with what people ask you to listen to, and as hard as it is, you guy do so with class.... watching your video reactions has helped me rediscover some of my first reactions to metal music both vicariously and retro-actively. keep it up!
I love Amon Amarth but this is a weak choice for a first song. Johan's vocals have improved a lot since this. Try something newer like Twilight of the Thunder God or First Kill
I just left a comment recommending the same two songs! I think those would be the best two choices to introduce someone to Amon Amarth!
Hey now, this is a very strong choice.
They're melodic death metal, but Vikings is the theme.
except viking metal is literally extreme metal (usually black metal but death metal too) with viking themes, so they are viking metal.
Actually... Death - Symbolic (anything of that album) is as good as it gets!
And the genre is Technical Death Metal if you are wondering...
Bad Amon Amarth song choice. I started with War of the Gods and been hooked for several years now
I started with An Ancient Sign Of Coming Storm and was hooked.
I started with Twilight of the Thunder God and I got hooked on it big time
I think Twilight of the Thunder God or Runes to My Memory would be a far better choice to react to.
i think easiest one for them would be gods of war arise the one i started with ... but if we are talking sick riff and i think they are allready able to handle such things gfiven they liked gojira etc... would be cry of the black birds
Guardians of Asgaard is the choice for you guys. Gotta give it a go
I am a big fan of Amon Amarth, but this song ain't the one you want to begin with. Start with Twilight of the Thunder God
My thoughts exactly.
This is absolutely the best song to start with from them.
Have to agree, their early stuff is a bit more of an acquired taste and isn't representative of their sound now.
Chris Thorley how about none of the mainstream Shit?
Yeah all Norse weren’t vikings but all Vikings were Norse
Chris Thorley, I agree except please remove father of the wolf and first kill from your suggestions, what the hell is wrong with you? I'm not one of these elitists that thinks "only the old shit or you suck". But father of the wolf is probably the worst, most basic boring song on that album, and the first kill certainly isn't the best on that album either and that album as a whole already isn't very good.
Why? After hearing one AA song, you know them all. #nooffence :D
How about some Thyrfing instead?
IskarJalak fully agree! Also Under Siege is a tank of a song.
Or cry of the blackbird
Under the North Star would be more accessible to them.
Came to post exactly this.
War of the gods!!
Check out Twilight of the Thunder Gods! I'm glad you guys checked them out :)
Twilight of The Thunder God by Amon Amarth.
That's my favorite one
Should've done Deciever of the gods or Twilight of the thundergod.
Or Pursuit of Vikings. Cry of Black Birds.
Lisa Smith Yes, those songs are great also 👍🏻🤘🏻
Jimppa T why the most known ones
Stuff like Valhalla awaits me or friends of the sun cross !!
Because most known ones are most known for a reason and are good songs to introduce to non metal heads (or people who are recently getting into metal).
Why that song tho
*Twilight of the thunder god
*Deceiver of the gods
Way better...with the videos is more epic \m/
Jesse Rosado asator!!
"Twillight of the Thunder God" would be good too, though.
Jesse Rosado this is there best song imo. It's their classic stuff. All that later stuff is nah for me.
Amon Amarth the pursuit of vikings
Betrayer of the Gods or As Loke Falls are both great songs to react to.
I think Twilight of the Thunder God would be what they should react to.
John Janczy
really any song from that album lol
Blind Guardian - Mirror Mirror, Valhalla, Bard's Song! Live performances are almost required!
👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
THIS
YES. YES. YES. YES!!!!!!!
Yesss. I'm really looking forward to how these guys will react to some power metal
absolutely!
That's what I said a day ago!
Also, the Metal Archives. You can look up any metal band and have all of their information, genre, lyrics, band members, anything.
An excellent resource!
Not a real good watch! A good watch for a "beginner", I'll give you that.
rob black with an honest review of it. I'd also like to see them in the Jamie Jasta Podcast
Try "Twilight of the Thunder God". This song ("Victorious March") is not the best song to start off with for Amon Amarth.
You might be right. I like Amon Amarth but this song is not their best.
So glad you guys listened to Amon Amarth! Please do another one of their songs... I recommend "first kill," "twilight of the thunder god," or "the hero."
Also. How many sub-genres of metal are there? As many as there are metal bands....
Also, Johan Hegg has the best stage banter ever:
"I want you all to sing along with the next one!
If you guys are willing to give this band a second chance with material from their more recent albums, I'd probably recommend War of the Gods (from Surtur Rising), Varyags of Miklagaard (from Twilight of the Thunder God) or Under Siege (from Deceiver of the Gods)
I really appreciate how even if you didn't like the song that much you tried to fin things to like about it, that's one of the things I like the most about you two.
Death - Crystal Mountain
Manny Espinosa Amen to that
I've added myself to this request many times Symbolic never gets old.
If they don't do Death this will all be for nothing ='(
One of the 1st songs I learned all the way through on guitar.
Yeah I came here looking for this. Now that they are listening to more non-clean vocal stuff, I think they're ready haha.
Death-Crystal Mountain!!!!!
Fuck yeah
THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT SONG TO START AMON AMARTH! TRY THE PURSUIT OF VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!
He was making a joke ;)
Then yours was lacking a punchline :(
%100 agree
I agree - I do dig Amon Amarth's older stuff, but for new listeners I'd recommend newer stuff from the band. Like "The Way of Vikings", "Destroyer of The Universe", or "Shapeshifter"
yeah. I was excited to see them react to Amon amarth, but I too felt this wasn't the best to start with.
I was waiting forever and didn't even know yall did amon amarth!
STRAIGHT UP
VRS THE WORLD!
Death > Symbolic
Chaos Rex YES
yes.........!!!
Ghost - cirice (music video)
Wtf really? Could have picked a better Amon Amarth song.
Victorious March is a great song dude.
Tyler no doubts about that but it's maybe not the best song for a first impression
Victorious March is easily one of their better songs, but it suffers from being quite old, and the "basement recording studio" they used isn't exactly representative of good sound (today).
These riffs are fucking orgasmic m8
Destroyer of Worlds or something should be a beginners intro to Amon Amarth. These guys like more melodic and traditionally pop rhythm, so yeah...
This song... is good but for advanced AA fans not really as a first impression.
i know right? I think the twitter people headbanged a little too hard on this pick >.>
There are about 666 different sub-genres of metal, for your information.
Too many to count
I've been suggesting Amon Amarth forever, I'm so upset that someone suggested 1998 Amon Amarth that sounds like a demo, they honestly have by far the best production quality of any present day band along with still making the best/most true to their style of music
Who the hell suggested this song lol I love the song but purely because I love the band, this isn't an introduction to the band... really hope they do another reaction to a a song off of anything from with oden on our side and on
Also Johan sounds nothing like this anymore:(
Brian McAlpine right? I almost didn't recognize him! it's amazing to see how far the band has come tho
Too each their own i guess, I love the album but I definitely don't think it's their best
For me personally Jomsviking is their best album
Imma sucker for a concept album
Also Johan sounds powerful but not clear and the drums don't cut through the mix on this album
Have you ever watched this channel before? If so you should know why I think the production on this album was terrible for them to listen to
I'm with you Brian. I didn't care for the production values of some of their early work. I think this is another time they just picked the wrong track for the 1st go around.
Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds
TesseracT - Of Matter (live at sphere studios)
Voyager - Hyperventilating
Twelve Foot Ninja - Coming For You
Periphery - The Bad Thing
Northlane - Quantum Flux
Architects - These Colours Don't Run

-Surprising/interesting songwriting and structure; CHECK
-Top level instrumental performance (especially guitar); CHECK

It'll be more worthwhile than the majority of bands with growled vocals you have heard so far, I can promise you that!
MetalForTheMasses always thought that was the perfect song all around.
Of all Amon Amarth's songs, why this one?! It makes no sense
Yeah, who the fuck thought this was a good idea?
Really not the best intro to Amon
Pursuit of Vikings!
I must agree. not a good song to start with at all.
This is like the worst possible intro to Amon Amarth song ;w;
Twilight of the Thunder God!
Death - Crystal Mountain (please!)
Hell yes
Yeah! Death!
MrJoshItIs Try Jurassic 5
Queensryche "Eyes Of A Stranger". You guys will love it!
jeff lacefield yes yes yes yes yes
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!
Check out PROTEST THE HERO!! Listen/watch their official video to the song "Mist", or "C'est La Vie"!
Who the hell suggests this stuff?!? Such an awesome band and they give these guys the worst song possible for the first impression...youtube metalhead, why you do this???
Yeah, this was fucked up! I don't know why this was even suggested, and how they came to choose this song, so confusing. I know they will like Amon Amarth if they just hear one of their newer more melodic songs!!
seriously, how did they pick this song of all of them?
Alleyezonjimz indeed man, they've got so many good, melodic, anthemic songs in the last 10 years, and also good and clear sounding songs...also some videos like the one for "father of the wolf" are worth checking...
Song what get me to Amon was Valkyries ride. Then I heard Death in fire and that was it.... awesome band.
I don't know if they polled what song to do or not. I can only assume they didn't because I can't ever see why this song would even get suggested by one person with how many htrat song choices there are for this band.
Wow guys i love the effort you do to feel other's people feels by songs, i try to do it a lot on daily basis
Should have been Twilight of the Thunder God
This was not the Amon Amarth song to listen to first. :(
only gojira gig i found close to you guys is in mexico just south of san diago, in Tijuana,
Baja California, Mexico on the 28th of april.
Nice one guys
Lemme know if you decide to go to that gig
they need second chance with Twilight of the Thunder God. And they are melodic death metal band, not viking. Their lyrics are viking and music is MDM
Yeah!
Ah, but they dress like Vikings, all their songs are about Vikings, all their music videos are about Vikings, they sometimes have Viking battles on-stage, their name comes from lord of the rings, and they've even made a skit, claiming that they are Viking metal.
Daniel James It doesn't make them viking metal. They are melodic death metal. There is a big difference in sound
It's true, but idea of their music and sound is MDM.
Yup. Saying that this is "Viking metal" is like saying that Nile is "Pre Alexander Ancient Egyptian metal" and that Ex Deo are "Roman Rebuplic/Empire metal".
Death - crystal mountain
Ghost - Cirice
Definitely need to do some Ghost!
Cirice or Square Hammer...stupid question but are you the kicker for the Broncos? Same name so just asking.
Djairo Merino ahaha no I wish
I met Amon Amarth at the Trocadera in Philly. They are cool dudes, very down to earth
