So authentic. Dom and Billy are goofy and singing one minute, then they read that someone else lost a loved animal and immediately showed empathy. They quickly adopted a validating tone and physical stance. This is why these guys are special.
I am a day late listening for the first time and BOOM! Billy and Dom answered my question! Thank you so much boys! It has been a few weeks since Flynn died and having Billy and Dom talk about him made me smile so much.
I woke up this morning to find my pet opossum died, and put this on to stop myself from crying and your question made me absolutely lose it and sob like a baby. But their response was absolutely what I needed to hear, so thank you for asking it. And I hope the memories of Flynn are becoming less painful.

For the last few days I've been revisiting my favourite metal bands (including Blind Guardian) so I was so excited when I heard Hansi's voice. Whoever send that suggestion is a genius
As a USA Southern Californian dragonfruit grower, grocery store ones might be good about 5-10% of the time. They don't ripen in sweetness off the cactus, but do ripen in color.
Often picked too early to taste more like a beet/kiwi than a grape/strawberry.
See if you can find some fresh local ones!
The really spiky yellow (mostly peru / columbia in origin but grown all over at this point) will be the sweetest, then a lot of the pinks (red pink green outside with pink flesh inside), then the reds (more red green outside with darker red inside), purples are also a deep red but originate slightly different locations.
There are hundreds nearing thousand confirmed varieties with probably about 10 seen around the world.

That Lord of the Rings song is from 1990... more than TEN YEARS before the movie came out! Blind Guardian has MANY songs based on Tolkien's work. Their most famous album is actually called "Nightfall in Middle Earth" and features songs inspired by the Silmarillion.

I very much enjoyed your trying to pronounce Connecticut (say Con-NET-i-cut), Billy. I used to live there. My land lord would often end a statement with "Do you know what I mean?" but what he would say is "D'ye noi mean?" I've heard that Dragon Fruit is quite delicious, but I've never seen it at the grocers. I've enjoyed watching the Friendship Onion, though I have to admit, I always watch them late (dunno why). Also, Billy, for your "handy geography", you'd find Connecticut along your index finger., or between there and the next one.

I've always loved animals since I was a kid but my family tended to only have cats and I had a few rodents (hamsters, rats, and the like) growing up so, though I always liked dogs, I never had my own dog and was amused at how the kind of person who described themself as a "Dog Person" seemed so attached to their pet and had such a close relationship. Fast forward a couple of decades and I adopted my first dog on a whim, a yellow lab puppy whom I named Matilda because I'd randomly heard the traditional Australian folk song "Waltzing Matilda" earlier that day. It's been 11 years since then and these days I've no illusions of not a "Dog Person" and I'm amused at how ignorant I was back then because I honestly simply didn't know the kind of bond you could develop with a dog. Elderly Matilda is napping next to my feet as I write this while my mutt Dogmeat is taking advantage of the fact that I'm in my office to nap on my bed. My 25 year old self would have said that having two big dogs living inside and letting them sleep on your furniture, especially your bed, is just gross. I'm sad for 25 year old me and what he was missing by not having dogs in his life. So yeah, I totally get grieving for a pet that recently passed away.

Oh man I wasn’t ready for this episode. I woke up this morning to my pet opossum dead next to the couch he and I always cuddle together on. I put this on to stop me from crying since I haven’t stopped since four this morning. I had a nice little break and then right in the middle they brought up pet death and I bawled. I out right sobbed. Thanks to Billy and Dom for giving me a break from crying and also reminding me my boy is always with me as long as I remember him.

My husband’s first ever cat was 23 years old when she died. He was devastated of course, so I decided to paint a picture of her. It’s a close up of her face, and I managed to get her bright and curious expression down. We hung it in the living room, so every day we see her, and it feels like she’s still part of our lives.

Growing up, my parents mostly got larger older dogs, 3-4 year olds with a 7 year lifespan, but when we started reaching the High school age, got a couple young ones. One of which was a German shepherd boxer mix that was up for adoption as a police dog flunkie (too nice) that made it to 17 years old, and my Fiancee had one Christmas puppy that made it to 18. Both were put down in the last 2 years. It was never easy to say goodbye, specially when they'd been part of our families for more of our lives than not, but it's all about the time you spent with them and memories made, personal growth achieved, and whatnot, innit? Also, finding the next dog in your life and bringing them in is always a solid cure for the sadness that follows. Our current pup is a hoot.
My sympathies to Melissa, it's so hard losing our lovely friends. There's comfort in memory, and while the sadness never goes, it becomes warmer and gentler. There are a handful of pets who are long lived, but it's the other end of the spectrum. My grandmother's grandmother had a sulphur crested cockatoo. It lived to 104. Outlived my great great grandmother, who was the only person it loved. Used to swear at everyone else. I have a photo somewhere of my grandmother, her aunts, her grandmother and the cockatoo.
