Hi Elliot, I am needing some advice. I am based in Australia and have been seeing a guy for approx 18 months, whose based in LA. I flew over three times last year, between 2 weeks-1 month duration. We met in Australia in 2019. He has been very hot and cold/indecisive about meeting up with me next the past 6 months (since december- my last month long trip where i felt he was emotionally distant for most of my trip and compared to my previous two trips, he wasn't putting in effort to take me out on dates, etc). I met all his close friends/family periodically throughout last year and it went well. A month ago I called to re-arrange a scheduled flight and he broke up with me. Told me he "is more focused on living a happier and healthier life, and I find the long distance tough". I told him not to contact me unless he changes his mind. Then, I find out he's spend the past 3.5 weeks isolating from friends and smoking weed. He has epilepsy and had a seizure the day prior (Monday 26th June, triggered by weed use). I messaged him to check in on him as i was worried, and he ended up calling me- he was upset/tearful, saying he is reducing and quitting. He expressed his love for me and said he is unsure if he made the right choice ending things... But since Tuesday I have not hear one word from him... We had a shared vision at one point that i'd move over in 2024/25 to live with him. We also spoke about marriage. He definitely has commitment issues that pre-date our relationship based on conversations we have had about his past relationships. What should I do as I love him vert much?...

I am just hoping with time to process things (and with sober clarity), he will come back to me.. in the coming weeks or months. Hi Elliot, I am needing some advice. I am based in Australia and have been seeing a guy for approx 18 months, whose based in LA. I flew over three times last year, between 2 weeks-1 month duration. We met in Australia in 2019. He has been very hot and cold/indecisive about meeting up with me next the past 6 months (since december- my last month long trip where i felt he was emotionally distant for most of my trip and compared to my previous two trips, he wasn't putting in effort to take me out on dates, etc). I met all his close friends/family periodically throughout last year and it went well. A month ago I called to re-arrange a scheduled flight and he broke up with me. Told me he "is more focused on living a happier and healthier life, and I find the long distance tough". I told him not to contact me unless he changes his mind. Then, I find out he's spend the past 3.5 weeks isolating from friends and smoking weed. He has epilepsy and had a seizure the day prior (Monday 26th June, triggered by weed use). I messaged him to check in on him as i was worried, and he ended up calling me- he was upset/tearful, saying he is reducing and quitting. He expressed his love for me and said he is unsure if he made the right choice ending things... But since Tuesday I have not hear one word from him... We had a shared vision at one point that i'd move over in 2024/25 to live with him. We also spoke about marriage. He definitely has commitment issues that pre-date our relationship based on conversations we have had about his past relationships. What should I do as I love him vert much?...

@@sirene7465 You're so right- he does need to grow up. He is 43 years old... I can't help who I love, you know?.. I am just hoping with time to process things (and with sober clarity), he will come back to me.. in the coming weeks or months. But we have to have a very frank conversation about our future and expectations for the relationship in the short term.. I hope it happens.. Time will tell.. I am optimistic at this stage (but am aware that as more time passes the less hopeful I will be).
