How To Remove Stuck Seatpost In Minutes With Slide Hammer
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 апр 2016
- I show how to remove a seized seatpost from a bike frame using a 10lb slide hammer. I borrowed the slide hammer from a local auto parts store after paying a deposit. Be sure to get a 10lb slide hammer as I don't think a 5lb slide hammer will deliver enough force. The aluminum seat post was likely frozen in the steel frame due to galvanic corrosion. I had been spraying it liberally with Kano Kroil penetrating oil. I manged to unstick the seatpost in just a couple minutes. You may need to connect the slide hammer to the seat post in a different manner. Possibly drilling a hole through the side of the seatpost and attaching a chain on each side with a bolt going through the post. Or whatever works for your situation. It only took a couple minutes for me to remove the seapost. Now I can repair the bike. Your results may vary.

23 wacks not bad💯✊🏾💥
Great method! No damage to the frame or any other parts. Big thumbs up for this one RJ.
Galvanic corrosion is real. But to utilise a slide hammer to overcome a seized seatpost is an idea that's simple once you're seen it done. It's thinking up the idea that's the difficult part and that is where you prove yourself again as not only a brilliant mechanic but one with original ideas, improvising a solution to a specific problem. Many thanks for a great presentation.
Those bike companies should be doing this for us while designing better seatposts or metallurgy.
This is one of the best methods I have seen! ... the main point being it saves a seat post and the frame with no damage, not even painting needed ... AND it's fast! :)
Great job, RJ!! That has to be one of the quickest seized seatpost removals ever.
I like it no heat, cold, vinegar, drain cleaner, acids, and all that other stuff
I noticed how your energy shot up. I do the same thing when I'm triumphant. That's why I like to repair things too. good job!
I've watched several of your stuck seat post methods, and by far this one is the best and the one I am going to try! Thank you. I own 6 family bikes, and I'm going to pull all of them, polish the holes and the stems, and put them back together with anti-seize. With proper preventive maintenance (PM) this can be prevented. Thanks again. - gus
I love how happy you are when you finish such a job. It almost makes me satisfied! Great job!
Hey RJ, this video really impresses me , i have to fight many stuck seat post in my 20 years turning wrenches and I never imagine such and ingenious way to do it. Thanks a lot for this video. two thumbs way up.
I would just like to say how grateful I am for this video, thank you very much. I had a well and truly stuck seatpost, I'd tried everything else (other than caustic soda) and was about to give up hope.
I had never even heard of a slide hammer until this video. I ordered one online, tried it and pop, out came the seatpost. Unbelievably simple but effective method.
Wow, just seeing this for the first time as I have the same problem on my bike! Never heard of a slide hammer until I watched your video! Thanks for sharing 😊
These kind of videos are extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing. its in my memory forever.
OMG 10 years ago, I had the same problem. I tried icing my seat post, heating my seat tube, prying open my seat tube opening w/ screwdriver and hammer, all kinds of lube-oil, light grease, WD40, etc. Nothing worked. I didn't try Draino or vicing my seat because I didn't want to destroy my saddle or destroy my frame's paint anymore. I ended up riding it as is. I didn't have that great tool or Kano Kroil penetrating oil. You are brilliant!!!!
Great Job! Ingenious solution to an all to common problem......Thank You!
this felt so satisfying !
Bhugeloo95 i know right 😂
Boogie nights
So satisfying
Just wanted to say THIS WORKS!! Had a stuck seatpost that nothing at all would move. So bought a slide hammer second hand off ebay for £12. Did exactly as in the video, and after a while it freed it. Thank you so much!
Which slide hammer because I am looking for eBay and I can’t see one with an attachment that looks like it will work for the seat post. If you can find it, could you let me copy the link?
EPIC CONCLUSION!! You're panting through your subscription plug. lol. And the moment it actually comes out.... most satisfying thing ever.
that must be very exhausting. love how you do lots of method to fix seized stems & seatposts. thx for sharing 👍🙏
Perseverance pays off!
Neat solution, I will bear it in mind if I ever have a stuck seat post. Thanks.
Slide hammers are great! Congrats on getting that post out! You owned it!
I had the answer to my problem. Thank you. Knowing about proper tools is important.
I have a stuck seat post on Burley Tandem,I am going to try this method.
Thanks for the informative video.
Brilliantly done. Useful and very entertaining.
This worked for me! Only had access to 5lb hammer so took about 20min of hard work, but it WORKED! Thank you!
How do you attach to the seat post?
After watching one of your videos where you had to destroy the seat post, it was nice to see this seat post come out without the need to drill, cut, or mutilate.
RJ, you never disappoint!
GREAT idea mate, thank you very much for sharing
I have never heard of a slide hammer. Fantastic idea.
The best of all solutions and no marring!
A W E S O M E. great thinking, and thank you for sharing. 10 THUMBS UP!!!!
Every time you start with 'Hey Viewers' I heard 'Hey Dears!'. Thanks for doing these videos - they are great!
I've had a few bikes with this issue. Seriously frustrating. Well done with this.
great job guy 👍
Great idea! Thanks for sharing it.
Love your work man.!
Wow look at all that rust, and it still popped out, great stuff.
Frickin great video as I have a seized thud buster seatpost in my Salsa Fargo.
Nailed it!...good idea RJ -
Your reaction at the end is the best thing I've seen all week
Just awesome. Brilliant!
Great video as always. 👍 I'm going to try out two of your methods on my steel frame BMX bike with an alu seatpost that is completely stuck tomorrow. First i'm gonna try this method with my slide hammer if that dosn't work i'm going to go for one of your other methods using my impact gun to get it loose.
Impressive! I had a stuck aluminum post in aluminum frame. The LBS could do whatever they deemed necessary. They drilled a hole in seat post, put long carriage bolt through. One guy held bolt, another turned the frame. Seat post did come out. 2 person job though
Love your work.
Great job .
This technique is very clever 👏👏👏👏
Good job 👍
You’re a legend!
Great video man!! Thank you
Good job!
Good job rj.. ☺
Very satisfying conclusion!:)
Nice work RJ
great going RJ, thanks for the tip/video am going to try and find on of those next time i need to :)
Going to give this a try thanks
RJ always Beats stuck posts.bin every posible way. Love seeing and Learning from It ☺
I love the challenge. Did you see my impact wrench vs seatpost video?
this also the reason I lightly grease the post of every bike I ever touch (excluding carbon) It's like my gift to humanity lol
You got it...well done😃😎i will keep it in mind!👍🏻
Awesome dude!
Man I"m so happy you managed to take this off! I can relate
Nice work!
I was thinking of doing that. You have shown me that it does work
So geht`s auch bei Backenzähnen! Super.
Best Method so far.
It worked for me thanks - after about 20 hits it unfroze and a pipe wrench twisted it out
Nice work thanks to share!!!
A great workout
great video thanks RJ!!!!!
Good job. You worked you back end off on that one. This would also possibly work on a stuck quill stem.
Love it!!!
That. Was. Awesome.
Damn cross-fit workouts are getting crazier every day 😅
Joking aside this video has been helpful for a buddy of mine with the same issue years after upload, so thank you very much!
I have two frames with this problem. The twist method did not work mainly because I was scared of putting too much pressure. This method will most likely not damage the alignment of the frame. I shall try this and see. Thanks for the idea.
Rust City! Nice creativity!
Who needs MC Hammer when you got RJ Hammer :) good work man
so happy for u right now
Well there is no argeument is there... RJ is 101% commited to the job and, the last video I watched on the tube trying to budge a stuck seat, they spent a edited 30 minutes failing. Thanks RJ.
Wow, that's a neat tool.
Love your videos thank you for sharing God Bless...
Nice job!
That was another success.
Nice work RJ. You've earned yourself a Pepsi :P
Good job.... I'll try it now....slide hammer....never heard of one
outstanding!
WoW! That's a good tip. For a minute there I was going to suggest to take it easy and have a Pepsi break...but "Bam" it came out. But keep those cases handy, you never know.
Also happened to me but in the aluminum frame and the carbon tube. I put wd40 between the tube and the aluminum frame (enough) to let it absorb and then fastening the frame and turning the seat it released. After taking off, I cleaned and re-lubricated both the carbon tube and inside the frame with wd40 and it was perfect. There was no need to cut or break anything.
This gives me hope
Now that is a gamechanger
The main task is to break the corrosive crud between frame and pillar. The vibration alone is probably part of the success and pull hammer effect deals with the extraction process. Must be the safest, least expensive, least destructive way to win out.
Good job! :)
Super!
U are very useful man
Legend!
That’s the best way I’ve ever seen it done 👍👍👍👍👍👍

beast mode!
I'm gonna try this
Impresionante!!!
nice tool...really
Oh nice! I may have to try this although I have a carbon fibre seat post into a 7005 aluminum frame and it’s literally welded in there but I’m going to try this.
that was awesome
