You guys make me smile. I just turned 70, and strongly because of you, Carl, I ordered a pair of Nick's boots (made to order Overlanders, should get them anytime now). I hope I live long enough to break them in...LOL. BTW, many cowboy boots have had double pull on loops for many decades, but not hidden inside of course.
I have a heaviest duty horsehide jacket from aeroleathers. It's hard leather but tough as old boots and £750 with belt. It's the best jacket and even better than the old double zip Lewis leathers I got 40 years ago. It was stolen.
As long as you’re buying something in a classic style that won’t go out of fashion and will last a long time, buying quality is probably worth it- if you wear it enough and have already set aside money for your old age, your kids, a house, etc. If I’m only going to use a tool a few times, I’ll get the Home Depot or Harbor Freight brand, not Dewalt.
Definitely agreed. I just had this conversation about Snap On tool boxes versus Harbor Freight. When I’m using it all day, every day, I’ll get the Snap On. For the weekend warrior, a base level Harbor Freight is just fine. Though I’ve heard good things about their US General line.
Very interesting convo....You are so right Albert, when you mentioned the difference between receiving a freebie from somewhere/someone versus laying down your own hard earned cash...I reckon your level of appreciation for an article is far greater, not to mention how powerful it is to make an expensive considered purchase for yourself as opposed to being given it. Carl also does a brilliant job as host by allowing his guests to talk, only interjecting where it adds to the convo or sharing his own experiences with a certain item.
Great video, guys. Your banter is very enjoyable. I gotta say, getting into higher end clothing has been an exercise in frustration for me. I have spent a lot of money on boots I don’t like, I have bought a number of leather jackets and vests that don’t really work for me, and the prospect of spending a few hundred per piece for more stuff I won’t wear has burned me out to a large degree. I do love my Schott Storm, which I waited 3 months for. the sleeves are a little long but I love it. I am glad for that. I am trying to put together a fresh wardrobe for a 50-something who has mostly worn t-shirts and cargo shorts casually, and high end suits professionally, in a world where no one wears suits and I don’t want to dress like a preppie. The main thing for me is comfort and functionality. And honestly, a lot of clothes out there are lacking in one or both.
Love this podcast Carl! Being a beginner in this space it's great learning from the both of you and hearing your thoughts. I'm actually heading to Japan later this year and plan on purchasing a couple items while there. This video was very helpful, but I definitely have more research to do! Thanks again, keep it up 👍
Luckily I'm glad I'm a very minimalistic person who buys quality I have one pair of Nick's one pair of good jeans basically one of everything I need so that I don't get too much clutter and replace as they wear out
I love this dude and I love getting to see people who have made enough money to afford this kind of clothing. I would love for you two to go to these shops you keep mentioning and let us experience the shops and the people that run them.
Note that the Clinch boots are also hand welted---so let's add hours more in labor in comparison to those perfectly nice Wescos. Is that kind of labor and design worth more than twice cost? As you've said time and again, it's subjective---what you like and what you can afford.
My mother told me when I was a kid "Blue and green should never be seen unless there's something inbetween." but I think that applies to bright primary colors. Olive and navy is okay.
Love these conversations with the both of you, please, more and more! As for quality, cost and why, hmm, here are my thoughts for what they are worth. For me over the years the equation comes to this. The more you invest your passion and interest in a particular subject the more important becomes the quality of that subject. If you have a passion for philosophy then the more you learn about the subject the more you desire to seek out the highest quality information and authors on that subject with which to base and improve your knowledge of the subject. It’s like you learn to cut out the dross to get to the meat and bones of it all and when you do that you not only save time and energy as you simply will not waste those things on the lowest form any more, why on earth would you when you know there are better, more reliable and sustainable answers. It is the same with “things” if you have a passion and deep seated interest then that can only be fueled and satisfied by seeking out the very best as the very best is the end game and you then even if it costs more actually save money and time and energy by not spending it on things you know simply won’t satisfy your knowledge and depth of commitment you have invested, does that make any sense or am I just rambling?🤓
Hey Carl! I've been looking for some great hats for different seasons. I love your styling and I think a great video would be your best picks for your wardrobe! Love the content and will continue binging your videos.
Loved the video and the banter. For me the problem is two fold. 1 I want the best that I can get for my price range for the item. The second actually wearing / using the product because I spent more than I normally would. So I don't want to tear it up. Awesome video as always.
Love what you guys talked about at the end most of all. I had that problem of seeing new things and having to buy them. Very recently I am trying to give it a day, week, or month then realizing I didn’t need it and I have more money 😂 great video Carl!!!
I listened to the podcast a while back and I’m glad I got to watch this video for more of the visual stuff, like for the clinch boots and the McCoys jacket :)
Speaking as someone that runs a group of 62,500+ members of the dapper community, I can definitely tell that you know the average type. I have to say that a slim tapered jeans does NOT look great with a sport coat. Tailoring has a much fuller silhoutte on top and therefore really requires a straight or at most slim-straight pair to balance it on the bottom.
Great video with great advice. I’m so on the fence about buying a $168 blanket shirt from Outerknown. Don’t need it at all but the pictures coupled with the marketing really has me wanting one. Good advice about taking a deep breath. Maybe I’ll wait until my birthday 😃
Just my 2 cents, I bought one and did not like the city they use. It’s a thicker cotton thread in a looser weave and feels thick/heavy but isn’t the warmest. I personally prefer a much tighter weave fabric with a smoother surface. Also the light blue fabric on the inside of the collar doesn’t match a lot of their shirt colors and can ruin the look when unbuttoned IMO.
That’s actually a 4’ slider which I set to about 2 minutes from side to side. I figured it was more interesting than a static shot and it looks hilarious when you play it in fast motion! 😂
@@CarlMurawski Cheers. It was interesting. I thought I was going a bit mad to begin with. Then when I skipped back to re-listen to a bit it became very obvious!
What brand of engineer boots would you recommend for riding motorcycles? I have pairs of Wesco, White’s, and Lofgrens. While I like the Lofgrens the most for day to day, it seems like the rebuild options with Wesco & White’s would be better for the shifter chewing through the left boot. I currently use a pair of Chippewa engineer boots for riding, but they are running out of life.
@@JoeyLevenson unfortunately Red Wing no longer offers engineer boots new. I snagged a pair of 2268s on eBay a while back, but they ended up being too tight. I appreciate the input. Unfortunately sponsorships are the only way I can afford to do some of the bigger comparisons and reviews. RUclips pays about $3 per 1,000 views.
