    This is by far my favorite series Carl M. produces despite never knowing who his guests are on each episode. But therein is the magic, to have a curated experience by experts of their fields. Of course, I do not believe I could ever justify paying $300+ for a shirt but it doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the quality of craft and production that go Into these products.

      $300 for a flannel is ridiculous and I used to work at REI where an Arteryx beanie is $75. $300 for jeans is a different story.

    I love my Iron heart jeans. The quality no matter the weight of the denim is just incredible. People have to try them and feel the fabric of iron hearts after you feel them you accept the price automatically.

    Great video and conversation. I’ve never had the pleasure to meet Carl in person but I’m friends with Albert. He is such a great chap! Full of energy and always positive. Living in Manhattan I have the same „issue“ as Albert regards limited space to store. Over the last decade I started to reduce my wardrobe living by two mantras: 1) less is more and 2) if you buy cheap, you buy twice. Now, every time I put on one of my Aero leather jackets, Ironheart denim jackets, Pikes Brothers shirts, etc. it’s a pleasure. It’s awesome to see stuff developing and becoming more beautiful over time. Other than with dress suits these things become nicer with wear and often I think it’s sad to see all these super nice guys and girls on Instagram with awesome outfits, but given how much selection they have, they will never explore the beauty of really breaking something in! More of this please!

    There is no such thing as standard sizing in clothes. It varies between brands, it varies between geographies, it also actually varies over time (as humans have got larger over the last 100 or so years, actual sizing v tag size has also got larger).
    That is why we advise you to measure something you already own. There is a link to "how we measure" on every product page. that and also a complete set of measurements for that specific product.

    • @lt3880
      @lt3880 11 месяцев назад

      most online stores are still not good enough. many dont measure the actual garments, they make a suggestions based on your body measurements and with no regard to how you might want to layer. they may only take a few measurements like chest and waist, not things like sleeve, shoulder or thighs. many dont explain in detail the difference in the cuts such as "relaxed, regular, slim, tapered" etc etc. I look at the size guides strictly every time I purchase online, and still send stuff back constantly. there is no comparison to trying things on at an actual store.

    The key thing about Iron Heart's cost is that they're not actually as expensive as they are, because a large portion of the price is because of them being sold outside of Japan. I think that Iron Heart flannels are like 200 bucks in Japan, which is obviously hella expensive but not totally the most expensive thing out there.
    Something I've found interesting is that there are domestic brands, like Freenote, that are charging Iron Heart or close to Iron Heart prices, including 300 dollar heavyweight flannels. I'd love to see their cost breakdown

    ***WARNING*** this video should probably come w a disclaimer. Iron Heart is a slippery slope for sure. You buy your first IH anything, saying, “that will be my only buy…I just want a taste/see what all the fuss is about”. Once on you begin breaking it in, you understand how completely flawless the garment is in every way… every following purchase from that point on becomes more and more justifiable.

    Great conversation! I think that the really important thing to think about here is that quality matters. Your personal preference and style matter and are important factors in expressing who you are fully and authentically. If being money conscious and thrift style is your thing, own it. If $300 flannels are what make you happy and you can afford it, then you shouldn't feel guilty about it. Do what makes you happy, and what speaks to you personally.

    What a coincidence! I JUST subscribed to your channel and was wondering why you didn't have more extensive coverage of Iron Heart. I'm a HUGE Iron Heart fan. I think I have upwards of 15 pieces from them. I also have repeat items ... just in case they discontinue any of them. For years, I wanted selvedge denim. But, as you know, selvedge denim always had a slim fit and were unbelievably tight. Their 888 selvedge jeans are the ONLY jeans that fit me well. I love this model of mid-rise/high-rise denim with roomy thighs. They're an excellent company with even better customer service, along with superior products.
    BTW, great channel and great coverage of items.

    Iron Heart is the king of shirts but I recently bought an Indigofera flanel shirt and wel that could be called a king as well. Difference between the two is that the IF has a nice nappi structure to it where the IH is clean and very constant. As far as jeans go, yes they cost a lot of money but expensive? No not that in my opinion because the quality is out of this world, I wear a pair of 555's (the tightest fit IH offers) in 18oz for over a year and the crutch is just recently about to blow out, not just yet but almost. Great conversation as always I would say. With one important lesson; for god sake buy the damn piece...!

    • @MrGreen-hx8lp
      @MrGreen-hx8lp 3 года назад +1

      Denim that lasts a year is quality? You got an odd sense of what quality clothing is. I have the 888 cut 21oz, the seam at the crotch started fraying a year in, and the crease in the cuffs was wearing through. I have carhartts 3 years old that has seen down in the dirt and cement work, and they’re holding up better. IH, imo, is clothing for rich hipsters.

    • @bobzuidema3560
      @bobzuidema3560 3 года назад

      @@MrGreen-hx8lp before this I whore Nudie Jeans and the crotch blew out after half a year and that happened in a massive way, this is just minor. I am talking about 365 days of actual wear. As far as style is concerned each to his own of course. For me IH is in an absolute other playing field than Carhartt, but that's just me of course

    • @MrGreen-hx8lp
      @MrGreen-hx8lp 3 года назад +1

      @@bobzuidema3560 Don’t get me wrong, I love IH denim. I really wanted to love my 888s, but after just under a year of light wear 1-2 days/week and it was already developing holes, I can’t justify spending another 350-400$ on that garbage. Again, the denim itself is great, but as far as durability it’s piss poor. Yeah, it breaks in and fades gloriously and all that, but all that doesn’t mean much to me if my 50$ carhartts can withstand 5x the abuse of IH.

    I am writing this comment from the Shinkansen train from Osaka back to Tokyo to fly home to the states. I visited Iron Heart’s direct retail shop in Osaka hours before I left to do some last minute shopping and was shocked by the price disparity. The Iron Heart UK guys drastically mark up the prices for western consumers and it has me questioning if Iron Heart truly is worth “every cent.” For instance, I picked up their cotton sateen field jacket, an ultra heavy flannel, and a pair of ultra heavy indigo black 634s for a little over $700. That much merchandise would have cost me close to $1500 back home. I love Iron Heart, but that price disparity has me questioning whether it really is worth it. In all seriousness, I don’t think I’ll be buying Iron Heart again unless im back in Japan. I feel fleeced at home now and it literally could be cheaper or on parity to fly and buy directly from the source. Japan has way better ramen anyway 😝

      Yeh I was very upset after spending quite a bit on their clothes a few years ago and finding out the UK guys are marking up to pay themselves. You can see the prices of their products on the Japanese RUclips channel. The founder goes over their releases and the price is show in yen. They do offer free shipping and actually give you your money back if you want to return a product. A lot of companies even here in the US aren’t doing that. The shirts are usually a good $100 cheaper. When the oiled N1 deck jacket was released it was literally half the price as sold on the UK site. I bought it. If you factor in plane tickets hotel cost and time flying to Japan to buy stuff wouldn’t be cheaper but I do have some military friends out there still….. but the iron heart shop is kind of far from Tokyo

      Very true but it’s hard to get the items and it’s a pay for accessibility. Otherwise I’m gonna fly to Osaka.

    I once thought pendleton weren't worth the 160 dollar price tag until I bought one... now I have 6, however I could not get behind a 350 dollar flannel shirt. Kudos to those that can afford them but I can't see the value in it. It's cotton not wool so if I gets wet, it's worthless until it dries
