- How to properly sun fade your clothing, and get a beautiful wash.
Idk why it's defaulting to 480p, so change it to 1080 :)
instagram @williambilliams ... deleted my other socials, cuz social media is big trash
Thanks man, I was already on my fifth year of following the old mans aging tutorial when I found this instead
😭 old man would be happy to hear that
why do you need a tutorial to remember how to put something in the sun
Can you post of the link of the old man’s video?
😂 bravo that got me
If using bleach make sure to use hydrogen peroxide to neutralize the bleach I bleach my hoodies in 1/3 water 2/3 bleach and let them sit in the moisture for an hour then set it soak in hydrogen peroxide 1cup per gallon and I’ll let it sit there for another hour then let it sit outside and let the weather do it’s thing and it does a great job and softens the clothing too, also if you are looking to dye the clothing! You should buy soda ash and mix 2 cups of soda ash per gallon and after you’ve soaked your garment in hydrogen peroxide leave it in the soda ash water for 30 min it raises the ph in the clothing so dye adheres to it and the color stays vibrant!!! Happy experimenting guys these measurements are all subjective play with it to mess around with what you want!!!
I had an authentically worn black baseball cap with authentic tears and motor oil on it. it turned brown after years of wear. I lost it on a boat down in FL and I was so upset. just trying to replace what was lost.
bought another one and the difference was astounding. I've been leaving it in the bed of my truck while at work lol. thanks for this 🤙🏻
Ooo, leaving it in the truck bed is great idea.. Perfect spot to leave it subjected to the elements
I caught a nasa hat bottom fishing a lake in Georgia while on vacation and I'm from Florida, where nasa is. Ended up losing the hat somewhere in florida. Damn it
Literally looked this up a few months ago and no good videos. THANK YOU OG
Glad I could help 🙏🏻
Keeping it real man! Need more people doing this naturally
Completely agree
All I've done is wear them. I've not "shopped" for myself in 10 years since becoming a widower dad of 3 month-old twins but for shoes and a couple of shirts. Just Friday I really felt I NEEDED clothes. Most everything is sun faded. I've found "hanging clothes on the line" before work on a hot Indiana day and getting rained on at night...and left for another sunny day leaves a perfect line of contrast. Just call me "Janus".
Thanks man, I live in Florida got a brand new denim jacket it’s hot and rains every day just gonna nail it to my fence and come back in like 6 months
u get it
Have you tried adding salt to the water? I imagine that would not only speed up the process but give a simulated sweat thing. Idk im gonna try this though. Great video.
Thats interesting, I haven't tried that.. but I'll try it out with the next batch of clothes I put out there and see what difference it makes...Thinking about it, i'd imagine it could have a really cool affect on the clothes. Thanks for the comment :)
I’m about 1 month in on this with a black t shirt. I started to add salt and baking soda to my boiled water towards the last week and I found that it accelerated the fade (I threw boiling water every other 2 days or so ymmv)
@@pengski2007 how much salt and baking soda have u been using? I'm about to try this too
@@2gifts I honestly just nuke the shirt with handfuls of salt and baking soda. Once I see the boiling water get pretty murky I ease up. Salt and baking soda are pretty cheap anyway. Keep in mind that its gonna make the surrounding surface chalky when you throw it on the shirt but you can always rinse it down with a hose
Came back to confirm the baking soda and salt worked like a charm, I got a nice fade on one side of the hoodie in like 3 days, whole thing was good to go in a week 🙏
There is a product called "Sun-in" it is a hair spray that gently bleaches your hair while youre in the sun. I've never tried this but you COULD mix it into some boiling water, fully soak the clothes, then sun soak. I am not a fan of using regular bleach because its too unnatural looking. But Sun-In could help sped up a more natural look.
Yea that interesting, i'm going to check it out
@cool name No I haven't, but I did start putting salt in the water and it has definitely sped up the process.. going to make an update vid real soon
@@williambilliams how mjuch salt/also I have a gap hoodie with zipper and what should I do so the zipper doesnt rust
@@childih722 I don't think there's any avoiding tht. Unless you possibly spray your whole metal zipper liner with a clear coat spray.
@@williambilliams "real soon"
post more vids on vintage treating. you got some style, you got some good humor, keep going with the content man. watching this high made me laugh my balls off at a few moments
Appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻 I got more comin for you
Ahhhh, the _'Sandals & Boiling Water Special'_ _😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏_
I make handmade wood furniture in ny and my clothes look like this in 2-3 years. I retire them, wash paint off and wear them for street wear. Carhartts are my favorite to fade.
Watched this. Loved it. Wish you made more videos, I miss when RUclipsrs used to be real and genuine, and didnt sound like a damn infomercial or like someone who just got a job at a call center. Hope all is going well for you. For what its worth, I gave you a sub. 🤝🙏🏻
i have been collecting vintage since 2015 with my dad and have a handful of banger graphic shirts that don’t have a fade at all. you inspired me to try this. i couldn’t find fuck all on this topic and you’ve brought the best info. keep making vids please
i would do it on actual vintage clothes :( maybe just cheap shirts you find
That spider web of thread is called mending :) little sewn in reinforcement because either the material was thinning out or it had a hole
Thx for the knowledge :)
diet to fit in to clothes. I busted out laughing because it was unexpected lol good shit man!!!
🤝 Preciate u Thomas
I actually like this dude and A lot of RUclipsrs make me cringe. Dude this video is about to take some of my big man pieces to the next level and my vintage biz game through the roof thanks
I fuck with how genuine you’re, subbed
I would love to try this but I live in Portland Oregon and won’t see the sun again for another 5-6 months :)
I left my tee shirt on the dash of my car in the summer and faded lovely with the sun streaming through 😊
5:23 is so true. Good work on experimenting on the sun fades. Keep up the good content on these garments.
Glad you agree lmao, and thanks :)
I laid out a couple t-shirts in the pool here in AZ and got the same effect. I call it Sky-Dye. 😀
Bro ty. Only good guide on this site. Also your style is fuckin sick. Keep posting.
I appreciate you, definitely gonna be posting more frequently.
2:29 - I felt that - Fire. My buddy had a Ramones Tee that looked like it had been in the back of a car window for months/years. Could be tight to experiment with how the shirt is exposed to direct sunlight.
u should post more bro, love ur personality, most based yter known to man
I’m workin on it, I appreciate the love.. especially coming from someone with a Mikey pfp 🤝
I just found you, I’m so surprised you don’t have more subs. You’re funny and put out good vids. Good shit bro
I appreciate you 🤝
Do u have anymore videos on this and updated methods to accelerate the process. I really enjoy this content!!
“leave it on the side of the road” 😂 noted.
I honestly impressed myself with that idea
kapital bought its own sun, thats why they goated
I forgot about that fact
Nice job ...also was waiting for a "fu@!" while pouring boing water wearing slides.
One more splash and that was comin
best video on here thanks for this bro this was a huge help
Keep on going broski you gon make it big 💯
Preciate that, means alot fr
Off topic but the sneakers in the background 😍😍😍😍
super sick video bru, did the kapital sweater ever end up fitting?
Thanks, I try it under the sun in Japan !
Love to hear it.
Does the color light grey fade ? I heard the color grey doesnt fade
Ur style is sick bro. Dank ass video bruh. No cap
Preciate that bruv
God bless you for making this video.🖤
me thinking you were going to say it takes a full 24 hours of sun light but instead you said 2 months lmaooo. How do I speed this up? I want to sun fade garments for my clothing brand.
I am a shopkeeper...I put a particular T shirt with coverage on display...after a week a particular portion of the clothes got faded from sunlight...just like 90% remains the same which was covered and the remaining 10% which was open got faded. How can I fix it ?? Please help
Use a uv film to cover the window.
That Kapital jawn is sooooo dope
Excellent video, I felt like I was sitting down and having a convo about distressed clothing
love to hear it :)
Sarcasm on 10
Gassin me up
Cool content! Did you leave the clothing outside when it rained during the 2 months?
Yea I did... I figured the more exposure to natural elements, the better.
Did you notice any shrinkage in the clothing? Thanks!
another idea: find a homeless man & exchange clothes. Jokes aside thx for the tip
Can you do this if you dye a shirt /hoodie and then do the boiling water method with out the dye fading?
Wow this is awesome ! Love this 💯
Thank you sir
You came across just when I’m reading Harry Potter ‘,’b I like your content by the way
Yes, I roleplay as Harry Potter.
8:00 IM DIFFERENT AND QUIRKY! LOOK AT MY BIG BOOK!
Shmunky wunky is quirked up rn
I tie dyed my sweatshirt and sun faded it,can’t wait to see how it’s gonna turn out
Lmk how it turns out
How was it??
How did it turn out?
i think that sweatshirt turned into a monster and killed amirul amin
@@oskar658seems likely at this point
Damn, your subscriber count makes me upset. You're legit funny as fuck just not caring to be formal. It's funny hahaha. Subbed!
Formalities are boring.. Preciate u :)
This is awesome. Can you try doing one aging carhart pants or overalls?
For the pt.2
Or just wear them for what they’re intended to be used for, Derek.
Thats hella risky lmao, carhartts arent cheap. But im going to do this experiment with denim, it has similiar properties to duck so lets see.
Reply to this comment if youd like me to update you
whats the science behind this? is it the uv rays that do this to the garment?
The realest DIY lol thanks man
Preciate that 🤝
What happens if you don't add the water? wouldn't the sun still fade the clothes the same?
I assume the water and other ingredients is what speeds up the process, natural aging takes a long time
Dope video bro i wanna see more of ur content
Got more comin, just trying to get better at editing
How long does the sun bleach last?
Could this work with traditional oilskin material?
Thanks maestro - i wonder if hanging the clothing on a line would be workable? This would make the fade more uniform
bro the shirt ur wearing is perfect.. what brand is that?
I'll check when I get home, some raggedy button up that's been worn daily for quite some time
Could you do a update video on them man? would be so dope and hope more vids are coming
recording it this weekend, hopefully will be up by sunday :)
Did you just abandon it or did you take it in if it rained
Wrst voice evr
bro thats love frfr
@@williambilliams 🤮
I’ve thought about using my pool water and soaking stuff in it then leaving it out in the sun... since it’s just chlorine and not bleach, hopefully it just slightly fades it and give it a natural looking fade and not super cringe like straight bleach lol. You’ve kinda inspired me to make a video about it maybe
You should definitely try it out, I was thinking about doing that aswell honestly. You could do it like an hour after the chlorine is put in the pool so the chemical is fresh, but still gets diluted enough.. make a vid and lmk!
How did it go?
Thx man you are a goat
🤝
what's the point of making the water boil? would it be sufficient to just soak the clothing? I'm thinking of doing a "millenial pink" adidas hat which i bought. I want to get it to that super faded pink color from where it is now.
The heat expands the fabric and makes it more easily permeable.. it would still probably work with just soaking in salt water, but the heat definitely helps
bro how many days did you put on sunlight?
im wondering how can i achieve the same look in a place when its sunny like 30% of the year, i thought about spraying some water with 5 or 10% bleach and leaving it for a few days, also do you think that uv lamp could help me achieve the same effect as the sun exposure?
DUDEEEE I have a UV lamp and am gonna try this.. the bleach would work a bit, but itll be hard to replicate the natural fade..
@@williambilliams lmk if it works!
I just did this but now it’s full of bugs how can i get them out
step 1: book the first flight out of rainy England
How can I dye my blue blue uniform without getting my patches colored also.?
cover the patches
cool ass video, cool ass dude, cool ass style!
Cool ass comment 😎🤝
yooo great info great vibes more like this pls
Got more coming, preciate you
Thank you broski, good vid very helpful

I know I’m 2 years late to this video but do you know if there are any effects on embroidered logos when doing this?
It may lighted the thread of the embroidery, but shouldn’t affect the structural integrity of the embroidery.. depending on the thread used, may cause splitting especially if cheap thread was used
So I live in a place where it rains a lot.. I don’t mind leaving it out in the sun but I assume I shouldn’t let it get rained on constantly. Is it bad if I have bring it inside every time there’s a storm?
I don’t think it’s a bad move, but just to to keep the way you lay out the item as a constant. Like try to keep it in the same positioning when you take it inside and put it back out. My perspective with leaving it outside 24/7 is that it will just age and weather the clothing more and more, which is really what I was going for. The more natural damage in any way, the better imo.
what if its winter? its currently -20c outside rn the water gonna just freeze right away lmao
Nice I’m gonna try it
i hope you post more often
Great videos dude
ima need more videos from you boss
Your ig story brought me here lol
They comin 🤝
"Boiling sweat" he.he
Have you done this with hats?
would the garment shrink because of the hot water?
Mine didn't shrink much at all, but it depends on how often you use it. If the garment is already well worn/washed/dried there should be very minimal shrinkage if at all.
Basically expose your clothes to a skin-cancer amount of sun!
Bro do you know how to un-sun fade a black sweater??
you need to re dye it black
Thanks, It made my repro Vietnam uniform look really good
Love to hear it 🤝
Dope video man
I read the disclaimer and I’m curious did you garments shirk?
very slightly. The more you use the boiling/hot water the more the garment has a chance of shrinking, but the amount it can shrink typically maxes out.
I don't have a boat, do I need to get one or can I do this process without one?
Definitely don’t need a boat.. I think a tractor or forklift would be the best tbh
How long do you usually keep a garment outside?
This piece was outside for around 2-3 months.. but after about a month in direct sunlight you’ll start to see results. Just try to keep the garment in the same position in regards to the way the sun hits it
@@williambilliams Thanks
Shit inspired me, I got some old work clothes I’m gonna do this to. Do they ever get mildewy smelling or is that really not an issue?
Wasn't an issue at all, though now that I think about it seems odd. Surprisingly, having animals shit on the clothes was probably the worst part.. Have some lizard dookie stains on my jeanscrazy enough.
U r fucking hilarious, the boiling water in slides, then you climb up on an aluminum boat 🤣
thats how i do shit 🤠
when do you flip it to get the back done? like halfway or do you go another couple months?
I flipped the items either once a week or once every other week for the most part.. The only items I left on one side for 1+ month was a pair of jeans and a super thick chore coat.. Going to update soon going more into this
@@williambilliams thanks
Thanks for the method
gettn faded
can it be used on pants with Thin material?
Yea the thinner the material the less time it takes to produce a fade.. going to be putting up an update going over this next weekend
Very superior bra
Dude.. FIRE. Did you add bleach to the boiling water on that red sweatshirt? It's all so awesome.
What is your Instagram, I think your shits dope
Aye I appreciate that, it's @williambilliams
