to get a more even colour use flat bins and add the dye before you put in the clothing. this way the dye spreads evenly through the water
you can try to rinse the tees in salt water, it will make the tees more soft. do it a couple times to reach your desired softness

to be fair, most black dye are blue pigment based! so its hard to get what you want unless you ran some test! this is the way!!

@@Praxicv2 I don’t know about salt water. you could leave it out in the sun for a month or so to sun bleach it, or you could use a sparing amount of rit color remover

I find that I have to leave items in the dye bath for an hour or more. Also!: you can put water back in the pan and put it on top of the item in the dye bath to keep it submerged. I’ve had great results dying pants, shirts and jackets.

You mentioned that after dying, they weren't as soft as they once were. As time went on and you washed them more, did they soften back up?
I want to do these earth tones on a graphic tee, but the problem is that it’s a pale yellow so I wonder how that will effect it.

Just happened to do this a couple weeks ago, RIT also makes dye packets for like 2.99 so buy Hanes blanks and you can get similar colors for super cheap
I'll try the powder dye next! that's a good idea to get the Hanes packs for the cheapest shirts.

Christian Seymour the dye is holding up! and I have. I’ve used red dirt to dye a shirt but it came out pinkish and didn’t look good on my skin tone so I gave it to my friend

If you live near the ocean just dip it in the water and don't rinse it and sit it in the sun and it will sun bleach it.
