  • I have unlocked the secret to fading a new shirt to look older!
    You have seen it here first so please share!
    DIY how to fade a T-shirt and make it look vintage.
    Also...As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases!
    Here is all you need!
    Bleach amzn.to/2CdYQOw
    Bucket amzn.to/2XM3hHM
    PLEASE DO AT YOUR OWN RISK
    I did a lot of experiments to get this and ruined a few shirts (see video)
    Step by step instructions:
    1/8th cup of bleach.
    2.5 gallons hot water
    Mix 1/8th a cup of bleach with 2.5 gallons hot water, mix well with a stir stick.
    Set the washing machine to HOT on a normal small cycle.
    Turn on and let machine fill up with hot water.
    pore your water/bleach mix into the washing machine.
    When machine water stops, drop your shirt in and close the lid.
    Dry, then repeat this system 4 times!!! Or till you have the fade you want.
    I strongly recommend not using a shirt you like as some black shirts react differently, experiment on rags, shirts you don't care about.
    Let me know how it turned out in the comments below.

    Hey Donny, One thing to note is a lot of time the tee makers will over dye colors to make black... so could’ve previously been a red shirt or blue etc...Even 2 hanes shirts might come from 2 different dye lots... so when the bleach sets you’ll get different results... I’ve worked with numerous screenprinters who’ve run into this same problem when using discharge inks...

      I tried it that way and you totally can just a few tips would be to have a big container ( I used a plastic storage container) and fill it so it’s about a quarter full and pour bleach in it I did about a cup then completely mix the bleach and water and put the shirt in the most important thing is to keep stirring so the shirt can stay moving do that for about 15 minutes and you would be able to see your shirt lighten

    If I wanted to get more of a white/grey fade rather than a brown fade do I just use less bleach? Or should I do the salt water method? And also does it just depend on the shirt brand if I want to get more of that white/greyish fade? Thanks!

    • @dirtydonnyart
      @dirtydonnyart  3 года назад +3

      Brand is tricky, you'll have to try them out. I think the black die that is used to make black shirts on most brands only fades to brown but I could be mistaken. Salt is more for vintage feel than fade. I recommend to follow the instructions closely as that small amount of bleach with allot of water worked best for me. Hope that helps?

    Would this method work with colored shirts? I have a red shirt from 2002 and a red shirt from 2003. Not quiet vintage based on years according to “vintage experts” on Facebook and RUclips. But still 17-18 year old shirts. They’re already pretty faded but not as faded as I’d like do you think it would work or ruin them?

    • @dirtydonnyart

    What size load do you set you washing machine to? Small, med, or large? Not sure I want to fill my machine up full with water on a large load cycle, because that would probably dilute the solution too much.

    • @dirtydonnyart
      @dirtydonnyart  3 года назад +4

      Just a small cycle. The main thing is to not use too much bleach. This will let you got back for a second or even third go around to get the look you want. Too much bleach can blow out your shirt. Hope this was helpful.

    • @dirtydonnyart

      Usually screen printer use Plastisol inks or discharge that are both very strong. I haven't yet had a problem with the screen printed image. Thanks for writing! It's not a good idea. You run the risk of your shirt getting streaks. Part of the system idea is to have the solution constantly in motion so it doesn't have a chance to congregate. It's also important to not use too much bleach.This will give you the chance to slowly fade your shirt. If you use too much you run the risk of getting the shirt blown out like my Metallica shirt.

      Hey Michelle, thanks for writing. I'm really not sure. The idea is to mix the bleach with the water really well before you put your shirt in. I've never used a front loader so i can't say. I can't stress enough to try this out on a rag or shirt that holds no value you;)
