    I recently started using the Texas Eye jigs and Z Man soft plastics and the action is amazing but my hookup ratio sucks. I know a lot of times it's croakers or spots or other tail biters and they're part of my frustration. But I've missed some really good bites with those hooks. I have the Snake Locks kind too, same issues. But regular jigs get snagged a lot and get lost more.

    • @SCFishTales
      @SCFishTales  Год назад +1

      That's odd to me. I'm not sponsored by them but I can tell you I rarely miss a bite on the texas eye. Are you leaving the hook embedded in the soft plastic? I don't do that like you would in fresh water.

    • @comfortablynumb9342
      @comfortablynumb9342 Год назад +1

      @@SCFishTales I think the fish that I miss are mostly tail biters so maybe it's not the hooks. But yesterday morning I had something screaming out drag and it just spit the hook. It had to be a redfish or striper, I was under the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel right near the land. It bit a Z Man shrimp on a Snake Locks hook. It was heartbreaking. I don't skin hook the baits like bass guys, those rigs are pretty weedless and I don't want to make it harder to hook fish.

      @@comfortablynumb9342 man, that stinks! Sorry the fish got away. Get back out there and get him!!!

      @@SCFishTales I literally just got home from fishin' again. I caught a little redfish on a chatterbait and Salt Strong Bomber in the Slam Shady color and some lizard fish. And again I had a bunch of bites from stuff I couldn't hook. But I think it's mostly lizard fish, spots and croakers and other tail biters with small mouths. Those big hooks just don't grab croakers and stuff like that unless you get lucky.
      Have you tried the Core Tackle Hover Rig? It's a hook for soft plastics that has the weight all inside the bait. They give your soft plastics a really cool and different action. They work great with a fluke or today I used a Z Man Diesel MinnowZ. It caught lizard fish and the weedless rigs didn't as well. Matt Stefan invented it for bass and I watch his RUclips channel. So I wanted to be one of the first to try his Hover Rigs in the saltwater. So far so good, I've caught trout and more lizard fish on it. I bet it will be deadly for flounder. I only ordered the 1/8 oz size and I really need 1/4. I've only tried them twice and caught fish both times. They have a little wire weedless guard that kinda works, but they're not perfect for grass flats but they work. I really like the action and the fact that you end up with a jig but no head. The hook sticks out like a jig but the weight is all hidden in the plastic. Check them out. And look at the Core Tackle Tush also, another very innovative way to fish soft plastics with the weight hidden.

      @@SCFishTales I think my rod is making a difference too. I think a stiffer longer pole would be better. I have a 5.5' light graphite rod that's great for Gulp and regular jig heads. The rest are Ugly Stiks and they're not sensitive enough and they flex wrong. They're fine for live bait and some lures but jigs and stuff like the Texas Eye jigs are too hard to feel. The little graphite rod is a little too flexible for those thicker hooks. So I believe if I get a better rod I'll do better with the weedless type rigs. I guess a bass worm rod would work. I was thinking about getting the Graphite Ugly Stik Inshore that's blue, or maybe the graphite red one. But I'm open to anything in the $100 range that's sensitive enough for light jigs and stiff enough for Texas Eyes and stuff like that.

    Kevin, as always really enjoy your videos as you give a lot of details on methods. I am curious as to what day of the year this is and how low the water temperature was? When it starts dropping below 55 and towards 50 I have a hard time finding them down here in Beaufort. Thank you!

    • @SCFishTales
      @SCFishTales  2 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words. This was a few weeks ago. Water temp was probably around 55 or so. When the water temp drops to under that they can be harder to find but when you do find them, you will catch a boat full.
