The show was never really about Elena and the two brothers vying for her affection. It was about the bond of Damon and Stefan's brotherly relationship. I'm a guy and the scene where Stefan and Damon are reunited after leaving Bonnie in Kai's Purgatory brought tears to my eyes.
I'm also a guy with a girlfriend who introduced me to the show lol. I thought it would be boring, but I ended up binge watching it and it is one of my all time favorite shows along with The Originals.
One of the reasons I actually liked that Nina left after season 6 it did make more about the brothers, though I wasn't a fan of how much crap Damon got in Season 7 when he came back after his 3 year sleep.
the saddest face and moment in the show was in 8x01!when Damon climbed he hasn't forgiven him!😭😭he didn't mean what he said but Stefan was really heartbroken😭😭😭especially when he was talking to Bonnie after that!
that's why i loved the vampire diaries because of the Salvatore brothers, I kinda hated elena tho, but i loved the Salvatore brother's relationship, they fight like dogs but in the end of the day they would give up their lives for each other, same like my relationship with my brother, we fight but at the end of the day we would give our life for each other, I loved tvd show because of the Salvatore brother relationship where big brother is kind of badass, doesn't care that much while younger brother cared a lot, same like my relationship with my brother, me being the bigger brother i dont really like to care that much idgaf about anything, sort of being badass, i don't care what my parents say but my younger brother cares a lot, tries to keep me in line, same like tvd show that's why i loved this show
no offence but THIS is the reason tvd got so good (imo) after nina left, the most intriguing and beautiful story has always been DEFAN for me..such a beautiful history, complex emotional problems, and brotherly love
The last season was one of the best in my opinion cause nina wasn’t in it :) it put more of a focus on the brotherhood of Stefan and Damon and that will always be one of the best if not the best relationship in any tv show I’ve watched
Id choose Stelena. Stefan and Damon will save each other over anyone, So why need be team defan? they are brother's with problems, but who hasn't problems? I never got that defan thingy, it's ridiculously stupid. I understand that their struggle through the show was a big part, of course, but at times i didn't believe in their brotherly love, but in the end, it's all good, but still why need to be a team for that....... good to know that there are people outside the internet watching the show and have a complete unbiased and honest view of the show and what it is and what it taught.

Was Damon ever a parental figure in Stefan's life? Its an afterthought of another thing, but after watching the seasons in few months, I got the feeling that Damon acts a lot as a Big Brother to any and all characters at some point. Other then the self-destructing tendencies, temper issues and often bad luck, Damon seems like the most 'safe' character due to how fiercely protective he is. And I would argue that it is not JUST about Stefan and Elena for many seasons. Damon seems to have/had a soft spot for Liz, Caroline, Jeremy, Bonnie, Alaric, Enzo... Though clearly his baby bro comes infront of everything. With the flash back not so long ago, and all the talk about babies, the question kind of got in my head.
Yes he was, he always protected Stefan from his dads abuse. And he also protects all the others. When Alaric died Damon was the like the babysitter for all the kids. He even says that too Alaric that he left him in charge. He is fiercely protective of Stefan and Elena though and now Bonnie. :)
This is one of the best and the most admirable Defan videos i have ever seen. Seriously, words can't even describe this masterpiece of yours. You just summed up a huge part of the Salvatore brothers' history in almost 5 minutes. This is a very big achievement and congrats for that! I loved that you showed how strong their bond is and how much they love each other. Because at the end of the day, _Damon and Stefan have only each other_. This is so powerful. Sibling love conquers all other feelings. I literally love how much these two care about each other even though they don't always show it. I love these two. I love them so much and their bond might be cracked but it is never broken. They need each other more than they think. I love them. I love this.

I love the Salvatore brothers. When siblings are portrayed on tv I love to see how they act and if it's accurate to a typical sibling relationship. That's why I love watching Damon and Stefan. I love how you can see how visibly happy Stefan was when he met up with Damon again in 1912 and the 40s. I love how Damon says he will be there with Stefan until he doesn't need him anymore. I love how in some scenes you can see Stefan just looking up at Damon and smiling. They may not be the perfect pair of brothers but they would die for each other and that's what I love most about them.

This video just goes to show that The Vampire Diaries isn't just about vampires. It is about Stefan and Damon and their relationship. It's about how much they might fight but in the end, they would die for each other and they care for each other in a way stronger than any other feeling. That is what this amazing show is truly about. The bond of famliy.
I started watching these series just 2 weeks ago and I realized that I have been travelling to work with my two collegues for a year, and who are not only Damon and Stefan look alikes, but even their character matches more than looks. It's just unbelievable coincidence.
I love how even after everything, EVERYTHING Damon has done to Stefan, Stefan still loved Damon more than Elena. Stefan moved on from Elena after they broke up but Stefan could never move on from Damon
I think this is the most important message in Tvd. That family is so important. No matter what Stefan and Damon would always die for each other . Even if they hate each other they still love each other. Family is so much stronger than any ship like Stelena or Delena etc. I love them both so much and I cry so damn hard everytime i see this scene in 6×05 when Damon comes back.
I can't help but keep coming back to this video. I love it so much. As much as I love Stelena (I mean I started watching the show when I was 18 when it first came out and I was hopeless romantic), I think Damon and Stefan's relationship was far more superior. I honestly think that's what the show was about. Damon learning to forgive Stefan, and Stefan learning to stop feeling guilty/loathing himself for it. The development from start to end was beautiful. The fact that the last scene in the show was Damon reuniting with Stefan. It says a lot. That love was genuine and amazingly written.
This is SO epic. ;) WOW. This is so impressive. I vidded Damon&Stefan once but it was years ago and every season includes so much new epic stuff for these brothers... so it was so nice to be reminded of a lot of that.

The show has its flaws but the entire story of the Salvatore Brothers is absolutely phenomenal almost 200 years of history and they did a perfect job of showing their ups and downs through all that time and that under all the horrible things they've done to one another they have always loved each other .....

Yea he was. I believe Damon was 22-24 and Stefan was a HS kid when they turned. At one point he did protect him from Giuseppe.

I love the Salvatore brothers. When siblings are portrayed on tv I love to see how they act and if it's accurate to a typical sibling relationship. That's why I love watching Damon and Stefan. I love how you can see how visibly happy Stefan was when he met up with Damon again in 1912 and the 40s. I love how Damon says he will be there with Stefan until he doesn't need him anymore. I love how in some scenes you can see Stefan just looking up at Damon and smiling. They may not be the perfect pair of brothers but they would die for each other and that's what I love most about them.

I started watching these series just 2 weeks ago and I realized that I have been travelling to work with my two collegues for a year, and who are not only Damon and Stefan look alikes, but even their character matches more than looks. It's just unbelievable coincidence.
I love how even after everything, EVERYTHING Damon has done to Stefan, Stefan still loved Damon more than Elena. Stefan moved on from Elena after they broke up but Stefan could never move on from Damon

I can't help but keep coming back to this video. I love it so much. As much as I love Stelena (I mean I started watching the show when I was 18 when it first came out and I was hopeless romantic), I think Damon and Stefan's relationship was far more superior. I honestly think that's what the show was about. Damon learning to forgive Stefan, and Stefan learning to stop feeling guilty/loathing himself for it. The development from start to end was beautiful. The fact that the last scene in the show was Damon reuniting with Stefan. It says a lot. That love was genuine and amazingly written.

The show has its flaws but the entire story of the Salvatore Brothers is absolutely phenomenal almost 200 years of history and they did a perfect job of showing their ups and downs through all that time and that under all the horrible things they've done to one another they have always loved each other .....
