Do you recommend a good drone for beginner fpv pilots to practice with to learn manual?
You may want to check out OriginaldoBo and Mads Tech for explanation of the what is causing the issue. Also, I’ve experienced it but was able to prevent a crash by quickly hitting the brake button.
You’re exactly right. We’ve been having issues with flight controllers and prop guards since the days of the phantom 1. The cineloop is no different. Super small frame prop guards and under powered motors make it 100% ready for the flight controller to lose control past its tilt ratio threshold. And ladies and gentlemen you have a crash.
@@dronecamps the avata dose have like 200g on my cinewhops and like you said the battery position but still I don’t think a 600 dollar cinewhoop should fall outta the sky that easy.
ok - well that explains it, if the guards are removed and someone 3d printed a mount for the antenna so they are not dangling, I wonder if it would fly great or still have the tumble?
Justin. Excellent recap applying your knowledge and plethora of FPV experience regarding the Avata tumble issues others have reported. I think what is often overlooked that flyers as well as critics need to keep in mind, is that the Avata and DJI's first edition FPV are hybrid drones: cinematic, GPS and Bells and Whistles capable. They are not in the same class of FPV custom built drones that can perform bat sh_t crazy maneuvers you, Joshua Bardwell as well as others can do. When flyers try to make the Avata perform extreme acro and freestyle, that's when they crash and for all the reasons you mentioned in this RUclips video, which is excellent. I mainly do drone image photography with my first drone being the Phantom 1 which I still have and fly occasionally to keep the battery alive. Since 2013, I've accumulated a mini squadron of various DJI drones including the Matrice 30T and am 107 certified. Having watched a ton of drone RUclips videos over the years (including yours), it seems like there are two style of drone pilots: DJI types and FPV types. DJI's Avata and first edition FPV drone are hybrids. With 2700 Marine and Navy helo flight hours, I wouldn't expect to fly my last helo, a Sikorsky MH-53E like a Cobra..... If I did, I'd definitely crash and burn. Keep up the excellent RUclips videos! Semper Fly, Dave in Morro Bay.
Are you sure it's prop guard? If it were problematic for airflow would they use a tube on jet engines? I would have thought a venturi effect through propgurads would clean up the airflow if anything. Sounds more like the flight controller is getting overwhelmed no?
110% agree with everything said! Loving this CineWhoop but to many flying it like a true freestyle quad. It’s that simple. Most seem to crash 💥 in “manual mode” (max speed 60.39mph)…which is a huge jump from sports mode (max speed 31.31 mph) or slower yet normal mode (max speed 17.89 mph). Then add in “quick turns” and it’s a recipe for disaster. Personally, would not fly this quad in anything nearing 20mph or higher (even 15mph) starts to get sketchy. Again..nicely said! 😎👍
Been wondering what was happening to people. Personally I built my drone to fly acro so I'm really glad I went with a freestyle 5 inch. But I was genuinely curious about this and your explanation was great.
Never heard the term "tumble" in the FPV community before this video, at least for this definition. You are defining yaw/prop wash (at least in the terminology used by the FPV community).
I own the Avata and I have been flying mountains and doing cliff dives with it I have experienced a tumble with it during a cliff dive at the bottom of the dive when I started to make the transition from a verticle dive to a fairly gentle right turn while pulling out of the dive I experienced tumble fortunately the software update dji pushed to fix this issue saved my drone it switched from manual to normal mode stopping in a hover about 20 or 30 feet off the ground so in my case the new programming fix worked as designed I have also made the mistake of not paying attention to my flightpath and letting the mountain top get between me and the drone causing a total disconnect from the radio transmitter I thought for sure my drone was gone forever but I just waited like 20 seconds or so and I got back video feed and connection with the transmitter and was able to fly the drone back to me I have also experienced a wierd oscillation in the roll axis when flying straight in a slight dive a wierd side to side rocking motion but all in all it has performed flawlessly.
Justin, you da man! Thanks for the explanations to this phenomena. And I love Ken's term known as "WHACRO." To me it's basically all about having the right drone/kwad tool for the right job! Keep skoolin us Justin! 😉👍🏽
Thanks for this info! My Avata is due to be delivered as we speak, but now you've got me worried. I have flown both homebuilt and rtf cinewhoops and only use them as a flying camera in smaller spaces (low and slow). I never fly in acro mode. I have a DJI FPV drone and have enjoyed flying it through obstacle courses or forests, and for making videos of other RC planes (air to air video). If one never goes into "manual/acro" mode with the Avata, and never flies in over 10 mph winds, are they still going to experience the issues you talk about in this video? Thanks.
If you fly it like the fpv drone you will experience tumble you can fly it in acro/manual mode just don't turn aggressively and you should be fine I have experienced tumble with the avata 3 or 4 times by flying to aggressively in manual mode but in my case dji's tumble fix worked every time I probably only have about 20 flights or so under my belt with the Avata but I'm very pleased with its performance it could however use more powerful motors I think.
It can happen in any mode. Tumble phenomenon has factors of risk that start with : HIGH SPEED, ANGLE of TILT, WIND, and Flight Controller GYRO Threshold being maxxed out. Even a sudden gust of wind can make it tumble. This is a characteristic of virtually all cinewhoops we fly. Almost no cinewhoop does not have tumble. It's the nature of the design. DJI knows this but is trying to resolve it. I'm afraid a firmware update will help it by reducing gains. But it will be an issue as long as this drone flies.
@@dronecamps Hi Justin; I echo everyone’s comments regarding the great information, because I’m also in the process of getting one! It’s good to hear that DJI is aware of it and will be doing something about it! Cheers 🥂
Sam, DJI "Doing something about" well that will be questionable. Although ; I have huge faith in DJI. But for 5 years we have been testing these type of drones "cinewhoops" from scratch built ones to bind and fly. Not so far have not had this type of "tumble" somewhere in the flying it in acro mode. It can also happen in stability "N" mode and "S" modes. A firmware update may help "smooth" it out but you will lose some of the acro "manual mode" performance. This quad is better not flown in manual mode in my opinion. --- more Manual mode testing in the next video. - Subscribe and stay tuned my friend. - Kindly, Justin Davis.
@@dronecamps Hi Justin, Thanks for the quick reply and the detailed explanation. My intention is to fly in manual mode only in close proximity like any of my other quads and Normal for more cinematic shots and some indoors flying on a rainy day! @@samavella8831 Hey Sam, when people talk about flying indoors, most of them are doing some kind of real estate work. I don't think you'd really want to fly this big drone indoors, for fun. Just something to think about. Or maybe you live in a 20,000 square foot mansion with high ceilings. 🤷
I imagine that suffers a lot of prop-wash too, I'm not sure how feasible is to do sharp 180 degrees turns or dives with it but I bet it would end up into its airflow with that weight and likely crash
Encountered a brief glitch to the right myself in S mode and this was no wind problem for sure. I do not think you are right on the reason about what the Avata suffers from. I am pretty sure. This seems to be more a rare glitch of the flight stabilization software.
Great info. I was looking for better rates since I got the tumble when diving down which I am not used to on my standard FPV drones. BUT it´s actually the same challenge you have when diving with a BetaFPV 75 HD I realise after looking at the video.
great info Justin am enjoyin avata and yes evenn as a newbie fpv fllyer i have noticed not enoughh power in wind unless close too ground used to fly Pavo 30 hd before and learned pusher drones very stable but are definately for low flyin explorers and these crashers are well aware of this and passing bad info to new fpv flyers mostly for attention my guess
Damn, so that was the problem i have got the last time. I didn't crash my drone but i have got a "tumble " in a turn. I was turning very strong around a tree and the drone in a moment started tumbling and falling instantly, but somehow i was able to recover it and saved the crash...
Mine did almost same thing, in sport mode with the motion control. I was using head tracking and I was flying in a strait line and a bird flew by I turned my head real quick cuz a bird flew by. And it seemed like it rolled in mid air. DJI said was my fault
when doing whackro lol i can make the avata death roll on command on the throttle with hard left or right with pitch and yaw will do it every time takes about 5 to 10 feet to recover that said. In my opinion the center sensitivity is to hot makes and it worse iv found lowering the center sensitivity on roll to 130 pitch to 100 and yaw to 70 not only makes the quad much smother but has less tendency to death roll it still will tho. also don't fly with motion controller inside or under any thing like a parking garage it will do the drunken monkey and crash. i haver a great video of it doing just that on dji discord Thanks for this video please keep it coming!!!

A much needed explanation! Funny how it's all fun and games and when the drone crashes, it's the drone's fault
Great informative video Justin! New Sub here!💪
Wow so much info thanks! Just hit the subscribe button as you have so much info in your content. Thanks man!
man i got the avata as my first fpv drone, practiced in the simulator for over 10 hours, went and flew it in a field and it was like i never had done manual practice before. wrecked three times. went to youtube and found this video and jeez, I'm considering sending back this drone. Do you recommend a good drone for beginner fpv pilots to practice with to learn manual?
Thanks for the heads up on the cause of this ‘tumble’. Awesome 👍
Only one I see with a logical explanation as to why this is happening to Avata owners. Great video Camps!
Thanks! Yes logical. And with years of knowledge behind the facts!
@@dronecamps facts!! Hope you stay on top of this and keep posting video’s regarding Avata. Keep grinding brother!
You may want to check out OriginaldoBo and Mads Tech for explanation of the what is causing the issue.
Also, I’ve experienced it but was able to prevent a crash by quickly hitting the brake button.
Thanks!
Yw man
Thanks so much Justin. I have my Avatar on order. I really appreciate the honest info!
Please use my link bro!
What speed is slow or too fast?
Depends on the wind. And wind shear.
Nice job . tanks for the vidéo good info
Great information Justin and thank you 👍🤟🇺🇸🇵🇹
Always honest and useful information.
I started with a Phantom 1, many more DJI drones after that. I'm a good pilot but never flown FPV, is it worth it? Very interested.
Yes Absolutely fpv is the way my friend you will love it.
I’ve never experienced tumble on any of my cinewhops only time was with a bad fc
You’re not flying or turning fast enough.
@@dronecamps I can send you some dvr footage if want
@@dronecamps the avata dose have like 200g on my cinewhops and like you said the battery position but still I don’t think a 600 dollar cinewhoop should fall outta the sky that easy.
Hi , What the name of the cinewhoop that you grab on @6:52 ?
Thanks, mate; good to know stuff.
ok - well that explains it, if the guards are removed and someone 3d printed a mount for the antenna so they are not dangling, I wonder if it would fly great or still have the tumble?
Very honest and fair assessment if you ask me, but you didn't so I told you anyway.
Brothers in flight 🇺🇸 thanks for that heli comment it made me 🤣 so cool you were a heli pilot 👨✈️ I respect all military ☑️🇺🇸☑️🇺🇸
What’s the other drone you were showing that’s got the prop guards? Please drop in a reply… I’d love to get it.
Are you sure it's prop guard? If it were problematic for airflow would they use a tube on jet engines? I would have thought a venturi effect through propgurads would clean up the airflow if anything. Sounds more like the flight controller is getting overwhelmed no?
It’s a combination of both here. ☝🏻👍🏻
Ya, if you have flown cinewhoops you would know they have their niche where they fly well and when it's time to grab a freestyle rig.
Most haven’t.
Just quick question: Is it possible to tumble in sport mode with the motion controller? As I understand its possible in windy weather.
Yes it is possible
Drone,good morning! really perfect -=))
Been wondering what was happening to people. Personally I built my drone to fly acro so I'm really glad I went with a freestyle 5 inch. But I was genuinely curious about this and your explanation was great.
Makes Sense thanks for the info.

Great info!
If we change motors with Axis's motors, it's will be help it to not tremble ?
Axis is sending some for me to test. Stay tuned FC
@@dronecamps Oh ! I'm waiting your review
Never heard the term "tumble" in the FPV community before this video, at least for this definition. You are defining yaw/prop wash (at least in the terminology used by the FPV community).
I’m the fpv community we call it:
- Tumble
- Wash out
- Flip of death
- FC freak out
Good advice. 👍
Great advice, bud!
Great informative video....
i’ve been on the fence about that thing now i’m secured gonna stick to traditional cine whoops
Very good information has happened to me several times but I have been able to recover it.
HI
great advice, No M for me.
Thats why i still have it
Cheers
Thank you for the Truth Appreciate it much. Keeping it Real Deal
Justin, you da man! Thanks for the explanations to this phenomena. And I love Ken's term known as "WHACRO." To me it's basically all about having the right drone/kwad tool for the right job! Keep skoolin us Justin! 😉👍🏽
Nice video, and helpful to know. What was that other caged cinewhoop you showed at 6:54?
Wow, this explanation is in-depth and on point. Great job! 🔥💪
This is really informative.
I was freaking out and wanted to send it back. Seems it is normal behavior? Good to know
It’s just how this thing flies at times. Hope they can update soon
Good stuff 👍
Ive said it before this is why I wait to buy ..... great video thank you.
Avoid the shitty scammer saying you won. Lol. What a jerk!
so the Dji Fpv is better against tumbling
Yes
Im a total noob when it comes to cinawoops and FPV. How do i avoid this tumble? Havent had it yet but want to know what to avoid?
Best to avoid cliffs and windy days. Or hard turns over water. Fly safe!
@@dronecamps thanks bro. I appreciate the info. Totally sub'ed.
Good to know exactly avata made for ❤
Thanks for this info! Thanks.
Thanks! Well to your question ; it depends. So many factors. Honestly it can happen anywhere
If you fly it like the fpv drone you will experience tumble you can fly it in acro/manual mode just don't turn aggressively and you should be fine I have experienced tumble with the avata 3 or 4 times by flying to aggressively in manual mode but in my case dji's tumble fix worked every time I probably only have about 20 flights or so under my belt with the Avata but I'm very pleased with its performance it could however use more powerful motors I think.
with this tumble thing issue situation, is the issue when you fly it in manual mode only? or it can happen when you're flying in Sport or normal mode?
It can happen in any mode. Tumble phenomenon has factors of risk that start with : HIGH SPEED, ANGLE of TILT, WIND, and Flight Controller GYRO Threshold being maxxed out. Even a sudden gust of wind can make it tumble. This is a characteristic of virtually all cinewhoops we fly. Almost no cinewhoop does not have tumble. It's the nature of the design. DJI knows this but is trying to resolve it. I'm afraid a firmware update will help it by reducing gains. But it will be an issue as long as this drone flies.
@@dronecamps Hi Justin;
I echo everyone’s comments regarding the great information, because I’m also in the process of getting one!
It’s good to hear that DJI is aware of it and will be doing something about it!
Cheers 🥂
Sam, DJI "Doing something about" well that will be questionable.
Although ;
I have huge faith in DJI.

@@dronecamps Hi Justin,
Thanks for the quick reply and the detailed explanation.
My intention is to fly in manual mode only in close proximity like any of my other quads and Normal for more cinematic shots and some indoors flying on a rainy day!
I’m a subscriber to your channel and watch a lot of your videos, but mostly those related to FPV and GPS quads like the DJI ones.
All the best to you as well!
Thnx,
Sam
@@samavella8831 Hey Sam, when people talk about flying indoors, most of them are doing some kind of real estate work. I don't think you'd really want to fly this big drone indoors, for fun. Just something to think about.
Or maybe you live in a 20,000 square foot mansion with high ceilings. 🤷
And yes it doesnt perform well in wind , calm or a very slight breeze conditions are best.
Every drone has a limitation. This word needs to get out there. Know your drone before pushing it to the limit.
Bro. 😂
Good day for kite = Bad day for drone
Good info to known i just got the avata and it super fun but each drone there limitation that for sure
Great info. I was looking for better rates since I got the tumble when diving down which I am not used to on my standard FPV drones. BUT it´s actually the same challenge you have when diving with a BetaFPV 75 HD I realise after looking at the video.
Yep. Totally the same animal just larger and heavier. Some of the tinnier whoops have better power to weight ratio.
great info Justin am enjoyin avata and yes evenn as a newbie fpv fllyer i have noticed not enoughh power in wind unless close too ground used to fly Pavo 30 hd before and learned pusher drones very stable but are definately for low flyin explorers and these crashers are well aware of this and passing bad info to new fpv flyers mostly for attention my guess
Thank u for this
Damn, so that was the problem i have got the last time. I didn't crash my drone but i have got a "tumble " in a turn. I was turning very strong around a tree and the drone in a moment started tumbling and falling instantly, but somehow i was able to recover it and saved the crash...
Nice video 👍
Mine did almost same thing, in sport mode with the motion control. I was using head tracking and I was flying in a strait line and a bird flew by I turned my head real quick cuz a bird flew by. And it seemed like it rolled in mid air. DJI said was my fault
when doing whackro lol i can make the avata death roll on command on the throttle with hard left or right with pitch and yaw will do it every time takes about 5 to 10 feet to recover that said.
In my opinion the center sensitivity is to hot makes and it worse iv found lowering the center sensitivity on roll to 130 pitch to 100 and yaw to 70 not only makes the quad much smother but has less tendency to death roll it still will tho.
also don't fly with motion controller inside or under any thing like a parking garage it will do the drunken monkey and crash.
i haver a great video of it doing just that on dji discord
Thanks for this video please keep it coming!!!
I guess that the Avata is not a new version of the DJI FPV because, in my opinion, there is two totally different purpose then.
Excellent advice for someone (we won't mention names) who has never done a whoop of any kind and has been digging around about this one. I'll make sure to pass this on to me...ummmm...him.
😆😆😆😆😆
Man that totally makes sense
It unfortunately does :/
