Potatoe jet does a fantastic job at filling his videos full of information in a very understable way. And make his videos interesting at every point to keep you watching. I'm used to to skipping straight to the action, but watching his videos are actually very interesting and educational if your into these kinds of tech
Potatoe Jet, here's the million dollar question... Do you prefer the Axis 3.5 upgrade OR the Avata 2, and would you do a comparison for us? Signed Austin Crawford
2 pointers... 1- swap the props for 3 bladed ones... throttle sits a little higher and is more comfortable. 2- stay away from flying near yourself with this! I'm talking from experience lol... its difficult to disarm in an emergency... it got stuck to my face and made a mess of me
On the Avata, how do you do that? Thats been my biggest complaint so far also, but i didnt know this.. I do like having that gimbal switch when i use it in Normal and Sport mode, does it only apply to M mode or for all the modes? Thanks!
I have 2 Avata’s, one with just the stock body and axis flying motor upgrade and the 2nd one with the full 3.5 axis motor conversion and both fly crazy nice. Be honest they both feel like completely different cine whoops and I can’t even consider them Avata’s anymore. But the 3.5 conversion is much more quiet then the stock even with the motor upgrade but battery drains faster while the other is very nimble but mad fast aswell. 3.5 conversion can pull out of dives with ease. Overall both upgrades are very much better
She said she ‘doesn’t mind it’ but never said she liked it. Such a nice way to put it. Then she said she loves you no matter what which is also adorable
I have an Avata and I have broken the prop guards once, and broken the downward sensor once.. So I've had to take it apart a few times and it wasn't bad to work on. I think I will probably try converting mine with this kit as well next time I break something on it. And yes, I think you should shave haha. I don't think it fits you.
I converted mine as soon as the kit came out and haven't regretted it for one second. That's the way DJI should have shipped the Avata in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if the "Avata 2" turns out to be very similar to the Axis Flying kit.
Love your videos! Just a quick tip. You can swap the arm/disarm for manual mode to the rocker switch and then you don’t have to worry about the weird double tap disarm. 8:18
I have been working with drones for years but I have only recently entered the FPV world. - I have an avata and a Nazgul Evoque 5". I would like to buy a cinelog 25 and a cinelog 35. I like this idea of modifying the avata because it would allow me to mount my gp12 or my OneRS on top of the drone... also eliminating the problem of the lack of power and stability it has. Considering that I want to invest in a new RC radio and increasingly enter the serious FPV world (studying betaflight etc...) I'm not sure However, I'm sure if it makes sense for me to spend money and time to make the Avata a perhaps 'unsuccessful' 3.5"... no longer even salable rather than buying a designed and tested drone like a geprc or betafpv...thanks for the video!!
Love this video! The best thing one can do to a DJI-drone: hack it and make a good flying quadcopter out of it! That's what you did. You took a chance, but definitely worth the hassle.
i have problems with mine where it constantly has the motor overloaded message and turns off after about 10 seconds. thoughts???? great video! also yes to the shave. i think there is a reason she told you to vote on it brotha
BRO DID THIS VIDEO FOR THE CULTURE, LOVE YOU POTATO JET I BEEN SO CURIOUS ON THIS TOPIC FOR A MINUTE AS AN AVATA OWNER & YOU ANSWERED ALMOST ALL MY QUESTIONS IN 1 VIDEO. Hands down one of my personal favorite videos you've made out of all the years I've been subscribed to you. Heck, I never comment on videos but this one I HAD to give you your flowers for all this effort! I just had 1 question - How does it fly with the motion controller indoors after the upgrade?!? Really curious as I use my Avata for real estate work!
Awesome video! What are the advantages of filming in 24Fps vs 30fps/60fps? Im just curious im new to video editing thats why i asked. I noticed that when i had the camera drones before the fov drones a few years back, they all had a 24fps mode and 30fps mode that was labeled HQ i think. So i used that, but i figured for faster drone shots of mountain diving or say freestyle flying. That you would want the extra fps of using 120fps/100fps? lol idk sometimes it doesnt make sense to me. On a game or sports you want your tv to have a better refresh rate for motion blur, it doesnt work the same when actually filming it? What resolution do you record at on the DJI Avata where im assuming youre not using an additional camera like a GoPro or something?
This video was so helpful, I now am definitely going to upgrade. I will say I have no experience with soldering and am wondering if there is any place online to send in my avata with the axis kit and pay to have it built. Is that possible? Thanks for the great video, love your stuff!!
I definitely like the switch more than the double tap but when I tested it, it only disarmed in manual mode. Problem is I often hit the position hold right before crashing to see if it can save my fall, but that also pulls me out of manual mode and my disarms stop working while it flops around everywhere. I think that switch would be incredible if it worked regardless of the mode.
Good to see you back. Love the EMOTION from your (soon to be?) wife! It added some real tension during that moment. It also made you more human / more accessible / relateable. All of that is good for your channel!
Well done buddy. I did this upgrade when axis flying made the motors.. FYI all i did was the motors Anne left everything else as is. It flies 100% Better. However you got me hungry for the bigger props. Yum yum give me some tang, tang, boogie bang... Lol. Let's Rock the house. Mikey
Been practicing in a simulator and will practice soldering soon! Think I should I wait for the rumored Avata 2 to come out or buy a used Avata at this point?
Buy a used one then - takes about 4 hours to do the motor upgrade but practice on some 9$ soldering kits before working on the AVATA - reaaaaally tricky and challenging even if you're tech savvy..
HI fellow potato! Are you going to do a video on iPhone and apple log and new accessories to help you film on your iPhone? Cause you are the one i would trust out of everyone on this site.
They dont use something like INAV that has the manual mode, but also uses Normal mode for the GPS hold mode, like the DJI Drones? That way when the video was lost, instead of disarming it you could of switched it to Stabilized mode and maybe it would have recovered. Either way it seems like on something big like that and also something expensive like that, you want some good safety fallbacks
I was excited about your sponsor but I have some yellow flags preventing me from trying it. So is Likd $15/month billed monthly after the trial or are they going to automatically for a year after the trial. The literally say nowhere and I read their entire terms page and ran it through chatgpt. If it's annual, it's way devious in the wording and the fact "annual" is listed nowhere. Also, there are dozens if not hundreds of reviews saying the music is not cleared automatically and that it has to be manually submitted and cleared... also that it's not always successful. So??
I've seen this video 4 times now, and the only thing I'm wondering now is if it performs better than the avata 2, could someone let me know, can't find any information about this...
Tad more complex - the avata doesn't have Angle Mode - which is also know as level mode in the liftoff simulator. Am hoping DJI pushes a firmware update allowing the avata to fly in Level Mode, all in all fun..
At this point with the time, voiding the warranty, etc, would you not be better just building a 3 inch cinewhoop? Yes you would lose a lot of the features, like position holding and return to home but wouldn’t a 3 inch cinewhoop be more repairable and maybe fly even better and just be more flexible for what you put on it?
I am not a flyer yet, nor had too much of experience with them flying buggers, purchased Avata a few days ago and still waiting for its arrival. I have a question though, could prop guard from stock drone be removed and bigger props then installed? :P Edit: ok so I see now where the problem may be, it will need to have different frame ( wider/longer ) to accomodate bigger proprs, that's a bummer :P I was also thinking of custom made antenna Yagi Uda style, I have knowledge and means to make them, and isntead of ripping off existing ones from Integra it would be enough to drill two or one hole to let coax pass trough. What would you think? 5 element yagi would or could have Gain od 8dBd (approx.)
3.5 Inch props are more efficient as long as you do not change the rpms like a freestyle acro pilot. Because it is more demanding to ramp that heavier props up.
Hey Gene, awesome video. What jibb system is that. Do you know the manufacturer? Caught my attention and I immediately knew it was a preferred option. Leave a link to the manufacturer if you can please🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have a trick for 24fps! Shoot in 50fps and set the shutter to 1/50th then in post confirm the footage to 48fps and drop onto a 24fps timeline. Definitely not the simplest and technically slows the footage down by 2fps but it’s not usually noticeable in drone footage. Let me know if it works for you!
Hi Gene, that is Kakoii dude! Have you considered GEPRC Cinelog 35 v2 with Tattu P-line 5.0 batteries? It’s bind and fly so you can fly straight out of the box!
Damn, DJI really should consider this for an Avata 2! Btw, why can an Avata fly like that for 15min with a 4s? 2400mah battery? My Cinelog35 only last 5 mins :(
That lickd ad is so good, that I just forget to skip it.

I got into FPV because of you and started with the Avata. I think I’ll be doing the kit. Love you. Merry Christmas!
Update: I upgraded and it's AWESOME!
You can set the 3 position switch that usually changes gimble angle, to be a killswitch.
yes, works perfectly
On the Avata, how do you do that? Thats been my biggest complaint so far also, but i didnt know this.. I do like having that gimbal switch when i use it in Normal and Sport mode, does it only apply to M mode or for all the modes?

I LOVED you left the music down there 5:10 so i can vibe while you fly, loved that detail
Now I've been rickrolled twice in the same video lmao

Any news on the avata 2?
But marketing said 3" is the new thing...
@@justinmunford2164 just first time taking apart the Avata
You were right.
Hey Gene, you can config the radio for a kill switch to disarm the avata. no double tap needed.
how?
Woah please tell me how.
i need to now too :c
Love your videos! Just a quick tip. You can swap the arm/disarm for manual mode to the rocker switch and then you don’t have to worry about the weird double tap disarm. 8:18
thank you for this. Going to do that tomorrow
the ad was genius - killer job lol

You can use the c2 Button for start und stopting the motors
This was quite the revelation... getting a Avata to actually fly like a FPV drone should, really impressive !
9:39 It is not actually the sensor, it's a layer of glass so it is probably repairable. But what hit that glass that far in the mount?
Given the height of the drone when it fell, probably the back of the lens.
If you are within GTA, in Ontario Canada, I know a guy who installed mine for a small fee. I definitely recommend the upgrade
There is a kill switch :) enable it in the settings where you push the stick in or out like you would arm it.
Best LickD ad in the game.
i have problems with mine where it constantly has the motor overloaded message and turns off after about 10 seconds. thoughts???? great video! also yes to the shave. i think there is a reason she told you to vote on it brotha
The Ad reads just get better and better
That’s awesome Gene. Hope you’re all well. Can’t wait to get back to LA in Jan 🎉
is the first time in my life that I don't skip an ad and even turn up the volume! Killer ad over there haha
Dreamy Dylan is the sponsorship we were all dreaming of! RIP #SonyFX6😰

The first thing I noticed was “boy, that thing has a lot of thick plastic parts! I bet that Potato Jet will just cut off all the protective pieces.”
I think you can remap the disarm switch to the 3 position switch that controls the camera. I did that for my Dji fpv drone. I don't double tap anymore
I definitely like the switch more than the double tap but when I tested it, it only disarmed in manual mode. HI fellow potato! Are you going to do a video on iPhone and apple log and new accessories to help you film on your iPhone? Cause you are the one i would trust out of everyone on this site.
In the setting you can switch the kill switch to the top button where you can arm and disarm the avata
Great mod. Looking for Avata's for coastal play in AK.
you can set the disarm on an every other switch so you dont have to double tap was the first thing i did on my standart avata :'D
They dont use something like INAV that has the manual mode, but also uses Normal mode for the GPS hold mode, like the DJI Drones? Ohhhh, i need this for my Avata !!!

I hope the Avata 2 comes with these features out of the box 😅
What you have on your goggles look sick! Do they help signal? if so where can I get some!?
Keep the wife happy and shave it! love the vids and advert was super professional. Keep it up!!
Yooo you can set Arm to the rocker switch on the Remote Controller 2! This also lets you take off in Acro!

you can program the avata to have a killswitch with the remote controller. you just have to add it under the settings in the goggles.
3.5 Inch props are more efficient as long as you do not change the rpms like a freestyle acro pilot. Because it is more demanding to ramp that heavier props up.
also, how the hell do you access the SD card now? lol
Is it because 30fps is the divisible native hz of 90% of monitors you watch videos on?
@Can you do the same for DJI FPV drone potato Would love to see it on a 5 or 6 inch carbon fiber frame

Just map arm disarm to the switch on the remote 2.
Appart from the mustache, the modification looks great and seems to work well I if you need to go further in aerobatics

Does this kit make it faster in sport and norm.mode also.ir just full manual
how do you work with fpv? 107 states you cannot use it
