Rik Emmett, great singer, top 5 all around guitarist for several years, great writer, painter, teacher, gentleman and great showman. A true star unlike anything we have today.
Triumph was such a great live band and Rik Emmit is one of the best “talents” in rock history!!!
I was about 10 feet in front of the stage right in front of Rik.... Best performance of the US festival by far!
US Fest 1983. I was at this concert. Triumph definitely rocked. It was very hot outside and it was the largest concert for attendance in one day ever at this point. This was the heavy metal day, even though triumph wasn't considered heavy metal.
Driving up from the San Fernando Valley pulling over on the 10 freeway throwing the keg on the side of the road and hollering beer run. Five car loads of people running down the freeway to fill up their cups.😂😂😂😂😂😂 couldn’t do that shit today. What a great show.
I'm jealous. I heard Crue was there and maybe their first big concert. The line up would've been great to see. I'm jealous.
@@bretttodd6470 if I remember correctly they were the second band right after quiet riot and it actually was their first giant show that's when they really arrived, I grew up north of La in Ventura and we used to go down to Los Angeles and see them in the clubs. Judas priest and the scorpions really rocked. I had seen Ozzy and Van Halen play much better shows but it was still good times.
@@bretttodd6470 yes they were. Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen closed out the show. was one of the best concerts of my life just turned 17 the week before
@@Megadeth1921 I was 17 and about to turn 18 that November so we are right along the same time line. I had seen some of the acts do better concerts but it was a monumental show. I have seen iron maiden at the Long Beach arena when they were doing the live after death tour recording the album, that was definitely a time stamp in my life. I saw Ozzy on the Blizzard of ozz tour with the late great Randy Rhoads. I caught Pink Floyd on the Wall tour in Los Angeles. I feel very blessed to have grown up in that time.
No auto tune. No backing tracks. Three guys on borrowed equipment. Their gear didn’t show up for this performance so they had to borrow all the equipment ….😊
Recommend: Triumph. The song is Magic Power. Live at the US Festival 1983. 😊😊❤❤
I think she would have liked Magic Power better. They played it great at that show.
Triumph owned the US Festival.
because Roth was drunk and he has always sucked live
Suck it! @@pulsarlights2825
Quiet Riot and Judas Priest did….
@@djentyman4002 Bands like Triumph and Van Halen were considered "metal" by 1983 standards
I agree 100& Triumph ruled the US festival there were plenty of good performances but Triumph exceeded expectations in the heat.
He wrote this song for his aunt who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
If you could sing like that, you'd look confident, too. Rik is legendary - ALL TIME GREAT ROCK VOCALIST.
Their best...song...ever. It's an epic. "The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive...I do my Best to do my part". And many, many other uplifting, soulful lyrics in this amazing tune.
Canadian bands from the 80's were awesome!!
They actually formed in 1975.
And another 3 piece! 🇨🇦
Aldo Nova, Loverboy, Honeymoon Suite…
@@RaymondBCrisp and they were famous in the 80s
"Lay it on the Line" 💯🎙️🔥🔥
I love it when Reactors discover Triumph! They AMAZED the world live, on the radio and their albums, you'd think he had reached his high notes then moments later he goes higher...later, higher still. They came from Toronto around the same time as Rush and often were compared to each other because they're both power trios. They were referred to at the time as "the good guys of rock" for their positive lyrics and their 'regular guy' appearance. "Never Surrender", "World of Fantasy" and "Magic Power" were big hits led by Rik. "Tears in the Rain" was a fairly big hit sang by drummer Gil Moore and has a pretty good video featuring him but "When the Lights Go Down" is my personal favorite Gil Moore song. That one has great stereo effects in the studio version, I mean VERY COOL stereo effects!
Rik Emmit is one of most underated guitar players let alone his vocals. Seen them back in the day 4 times and they are amazing.
The US Festival- Hard Rock Day! Triumph songs almost always focus on the positive! No darkness with them! 3 man band, sometimes toured with a 4th. Rik Emmett is a highly under rated guitarist and his vocals were superb. Gil Moore on the drums and vocals as well awesome and finally Mike Levine on bass kept them on track! I was so lucky having to listen to their songs every day on the radio! Arguably Triumph has the best band that hot heavy metal day in 1983!
The USA wasn’t allowing Triumph in on the scene. They were HUGE in Canada but for some reason they couldn’t get a gig in the US if they paid them. Thanks to the rest of us that were huge fans early they could no longer be denied. They got the invitation to do this show and the rest is history. They blew every single band off the stage at the “US FESTIVAL”. One of the greatest rock shows of all time. I was lucky enough to see them in 1986. They took the top off Met Center!!!!!
Watch the entire concert. This their set is one of the greatest live performances of a rock band.
Awesome song! Another band from Canada you should check out is April wine, they had many good songs, like to rock,is one of their best songs
Triumph, a great band from Canada! A few of my favorites from them are "Magic Power", "Lay It On the Line", "American Girls", "Allied Forces"
One of most underrated Canadian bands ever!
He is a Super Nice Guy that can melt an audience!
From the 1983 Us Fest in California. They have more great music: "Never Surrender"
"Lay It On The Line"
"Follow Your Heart"
"Magic Power"
"Spellbound"
Yes friend, great playlist!
Love this band. I used to sing Magic power to my daughter from when she was a baby. She's not a baby anymore but it's one of her favorite songs.
I remember watching this live in a hotel in Chapel Hill, NC back in the day. What a great day of music.
Thanks for getting this favorite of mine on the channel
That was the US festival- San Bernadino, California in 1983
Sunday May 29, 1983 in the desert of San Bernardino California. I was fortunate enough to be one of 350,000+ metalhead rocking out. I was about 15 to 20 people from the front on the bass players side of the stage. I had just turned 17 the week before and had the time of my life. Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest,Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen closed out the night. It was a three day festival Saturday being new wave day and Monday being rock ‘n’ roll day. Neither of those crowds were anywhere near the size of Sunday heavy metal day. In my opinion.Triumph was the best band that day. Judas Priest had a great set but triumph was by far the best. I always love when people react to this show because it brings back some great memories. I was on a weeklong high, partying like crazy. The best of times. I always enjoy your reactions to the music I grew up with.👏👏👏👏🤙🤙🤙🤙🤘🤘🤘🤘
This performance was at the 1983 US Festival in California hosted by one of the original owners and inventors of Apple Computers. Triumph was virtually unknown in the US when they came to the show. After the show they had stolen the headlines. The whole performance by Triumph at the show is worth watching but notable songs you should also hear are 'Magic Power' and 'Lay it on the Line' to me these three songs are better live at this show than on their albums. Rik Emmett the singer and guitar player nailed his vocals, but all three of them are masters of their instruments and can sing amazing backups and lead vocals in their own right. Thanks for sharing. Chris
Triumph had already sold 2 million albums in the US at the time of this show so I wouldn't characterize them as 'unknown.' 😉
@@ryanzedic9246my thought exactly....anyone with a radio knew who they were.
2 million albums, wow out of a population of 300 million that means almost half of a single percent of the country new them. But after this concert and when MTV hit its stride they became much bigger and known wider. I couldn't beg my local radio stations to play them until after the US festival and MTV. The dj's would just say who? Oh another Rush wannabe and move on. So I guess it depends where in the US you were. I was in a small rural area. We had AM stations that played top 40 only for payola and we had independent FM stations that mainly played album cuts and had no advertising. Chris
@ryanzedic9246 we had all been listening to them starting in '78 at my high school in Southwest Indiana...very popular! Have been a Triumph fan ever since and I have seen them twice in Evansville, IN and twice in Indianapolis, IN. They never disappointed musically and stage production!
@@chrisbricky7331 wasnt 300 mil back in 80....and if population translated to record sales then artists from india and china would be blowing away everyone else.
This was at the US Festival. They were the set before Spinal Tap came on and set the back curtain on fire with their pyrotechnics. The drummer perished in the fire. It was tragic, but it was a great performance.
One of the best Canadian Bands
One of the first bands to use Pyrotechnic. Pink Floyd was the first to use light laser ect..plus this little Canadian band has someone film most of their concerts before MTV, so they had a lot of play material when MTV started its TV channel
Lead singer/lead guitarist, Rik Emmett, wrote this song for his aunt who was batting cancer
Absolutely one of the best if not the best lead singer/lead guitarist of all time. Great band that doesn't get their due and one of my fav! In this same concert he does an amazing guitar solo that includes classical style on an electric guitar.
US Festival, 1983. I was at that show. I hitch-hiked from St. Louis, Missouri to San Bernardino, California with a friend to see heavy metal Sunday - the only day to sellout with an estimated 300,000 people in the crowd.. Great show.
@Bisscute Thank you! For reacting to one of my favorite bands of all time! Rik Emmett is one of the greatest singers and guitarists of all time! This was from the US festival in 1983 and one of the best performances ever. Period! Your reaction was perfect! All that sound from 3 very talented people should tell you all you need to know about this amazing band. Thanks again!
I went to this concert, aka Heavy Metal Sunday. It reached 105 degrees that day. We were young and sweating and we could care less about the blistering heat. A handful of bands were also there: Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Judas Priest, The Scorpions, and Van Halen. One of the best festival concerts of the 80s. Triumph rocked the sea of people! There were video monitors placed toward the back. There were about 200,000 people in front of us and nobody got hurt but quite a few people suffered from dehydration. Nonetheless, we had a blast! Good times...
Must check out their albums, Just a Game, Never Surrender, Fight the Good Fight, and Thunder Seven. This is great talented progressive rock.
Another prime example of Canadian rockers. 🇨🇦
Prism
@@kennethlarocque2605 Nobody ever reacts to Prism! They were an awesome band with some of my favourite songs. You'd think American reactors would want to listen to a song called American Music lol.
Their definitely worth a deeper dive. They were a whole package. For a few years.
I was at this concert also. All the bands there were awesome. Great performance.
A great, underrated band.
Yes thier correct us festival 83 500,000 people was a 3 day concert, girl Triumph is way up there on my list of bad ass bands from my youth so glad you finally got to hear this I wasn't there but I know somebody that was , but I bought the concert 20 years ago and girl they have tons of good stuff. Lay it on the line ,should be the next its so dam good and they did it at this concert
Lay It On The Line is my favourite Triumph song
Allied Forces is mine!
These three guys were a fantastic powerhouse of rock. Thanks for reacting to them.
Three times I saw them in an arena back in the '80s and three times I spent a week seeing TRIUMPH every time I closed my eyes. Good times... good times.
❤ Another amazing Canadian Trio. 🇨🇦
My older brother took me to this concert when I was 15 years old.
“I live for the weekend” is still my friday night song!
Magic Power from the same concert - worth the watch for sure. You won't be disappointed
I saw them live with 62,000 friends! Stole the show.
This is One of My Very Favorite Bands Triumph So many Amazing Uplifting Songs and the Singer is Unbelievable I got to see them 9 times Live about 2 weeks after The Performance you are watching now they played a Texxas World Music Festival I am within a couple of concerts of having been to 700 concerts The Singer and he is also Lead Guitar has probably Top3 Performances in my Top 10 Performances have gotten to see them and him I Love that You are checking this out on RUclips 1987 Triumph Live Halifax He is Brilliant Try listening to Magic Power I Love that you chose this Band a 3 piece from Canada because a DJ in my home state Texas San Antonio this DJ played their Music a lot even though they were so far away and they were asked to Headline a Concert that another Band couldn’t play so Texas adopted Triumph and that is how I found out!
I have never heard of this band before. Looking forward to it.
Canadian band 3 piece. If you want to really be impressed get a chance and listen to lay it on the line from the same concert. His voice goes where no one else can put it.
There are many, many great Canadian bands that bunches of people seem to have "ignored."
If you have a positive song playlist this is a must to have on it.
I got to see Triumph a few times in the early 80s. They weren't flamboyant performers, but they got the job done effortlessly. "Fight The Good Fight" and "Magic Power" always brought the house roaring to its feet.
Canada produced a lot of great bands. 🤘
Triumph's song Blinding Light Show is phenominal, describing a live show from the band's perspective.
Another Canadian band is BTO - Bachman-Turner Overdrive. So many great tunes...
Yep..love BTO as well...I saw them at a small club in southern Illinois (drove from southwest Indiana with a friend, through a snowstorm to get there)...great show...stood two feet from the band...my best friend was a BTO fanatic and brought all his BTO albums with him, and was holding them up during the set...Randy Bachman signed all his albums after the show! This was in late 1985 or early 1986. He was such a nice, gracious guy, and my friend's idol. My friend is a musician as well.
This was the Us Festival 1983 in the Inland Empire region of Southern California
Very nice reaction Bisscute. I saw Triumph when I was in Texas back in 83 with Foghat as the opener. Talk about a rocking night! You just saw a glimpse of that whole amazing night.
Saw this band in concert in 1982. One of my favorite bands of the era - among SO many great ones - and highly underrated. What is it with these Canadians and 3-piece bands? Don't sleep on these guys, Biss; so much great music from them. Recommend Magic Power. Great lyrics. A lot of their lyrics are very positive.
Hi Biss-Cutie, I enjoy our cousins from the north (Canada) and the 1970's was a good time to experience all of the nice concerts. "Lay it on the Line" is another banger from them. Keep playing the good stuff my dear. 🙂
Another 3-man band from Canada! Love "Lay it on the line" it's a great song.
To must see live performances:
Jewel who will save your soul live at Woodstock?
Black crowes thorn in my pride live at the Roxbury
Everyone respected Triumph back in the day. They had 4 songs that will be great until infinity, and did it with so much power from only 3 guys.
I always liked them much more than Rush who now seem to be virtually worshipped.
I saw them live a year or so before this. Yes, Rik always hit those notes while shredding on the guitar, as did Gil Moore when he sang lead while playing the drums.
Very talented band , they were all over the radio back in the early 80's .
Great choice! One of my favorites from this amazing trio!
Rik Emmett is brilliant
This was as close to perfect as you can play live. Rik is one of the great all time talents as a lead guitarist and lead vocalist, esp live. Any song from their US Festival set is can't miss!
You are right about the confidence. Pure talent with these guys. They were also the nice guy band and they got a lot of shit for that. LOL
Biss Triumph was my first Concert ever I wasn't even into Rock I was a break dancer 1983, after that concert I never looked back
Metal and Rock was who I was!!!!!! ly biss
I was at this concert (weekend), oh the memories
Awesome reaction again!!!!!!❤ Checkout their song Lay it on the line from the same US festival 83 concert 🔥🔥🔥
Steve Perry would refer to Rik as that guy with the really high voice! Rik Emmett, sings in the stratosphere. Very high tessitura.
I saw them live in concert when I was around 13 years old. It was a great concert. 1982
Hi Miss Bisscute 😎. As always the like button 🔘 has been Illuminated !!!😊🇺🇲👍🌅🌞☀️🏝️🎶🎵🎹🎻🎸🎙️🎤
They're one of best 3 piece bands of the 70s and 80s rock super groups ❤❤ your reaction biss from all of biss nation you rock ❤❤❤😮😢😅
This a band heard of but never paid attention to
I didn't now the song but would like to hear more.
Have a great day Biss.
Saw them live a couple of times at the old memorial Stadium in St John's and they always put on a great show. Blinding Light Show is my favorite by them.
Favorite song also.
Haven't seen you in a while, biscuit, 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹, yes triumph was one of the greatest rock groups in history, their musicianship in passion for music, is unmatched by any group in the world, good to see you again biscuit I missed you, 🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹
Saw them as an opening act for Journey at The Rose bowl along with 85 thousand other fans….they were killer
Marvin Gaye - When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You
Tree-OOmph!!! ....That's perfect!
Love your reaction videos Bisscute! I would love to hear you react to a song or two by country music artist Toby Keith (RIP). Sadly, he just passed away a few weeks ago after a 2 year battle with cancer. But I did see him in concert in Florida back in 2016 and it was a great show!
If you see this, a few Toby Keith songs I might recommend are “I Love This Bar,” “As Good As I Once Was,” “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “Beer for My Horses,” and/or “Courtesy of the Red White and Blue”
Best wishes from US!
Triumph hails from Canada and is awesome just like some other 3 member group from Canada. The name escapes me....😂😂. RUSH!! This was the US83 festival. Another group that performed there was Judas Priest. I highly recommend the video of Victim of Changes. Insane!! Thanks!!
Aah, Biss, know you like the big band, heavy metal sound. Another from mid 70s with a big lead vocalist sound in front of a big crowd is Peter Frampton, Show Me the Way. 👍
Triumph has so many great/amazing songs - hope you check out a few more!!! This was awesome and LIVE!!!
One of the greatest performances of all time.
some rocking triumph songs-i live for the weekend, rock n roll weekend, allied forces, american girls, tear the roof off( highly recommend) . all great uptempo rockers!
Love this band!!
Always loved this band. I heard this song, and Magic Power and was hooked. I have atleast 13 or more, maybe16 albums of theirs. SO glad you decided to react to them. Never expected it. Love ya BIS...🤟👏🍻
Just another Canadian power trio! ‘Nuf said!
I love that you noticed Mike Levine ( the bassist) multitasking. However you forgot to notice how good the guitar playing is. From the guy (Rick Emmett) singing. Just thought that was cute.
such an epic band.......................
I was at this one, US Fest was a three day music festival (day one; new wave, day two; metal, day three; rock) this was day two.
Triumph were from Canada and just as popular as fellow Canadians Rush... hence, the sonic comparisons. Formed in 1975, Triumph was a rock trio feat. Rik Emmett (vocals & guitar), Gil Moore (vocals & drums) and Mike Levine (bass & keyboards)... They released 2 albums in Canada before they broke big in the USA w/ 3rd album 'Just a game' in 1979 and the singles - 'Lay it on the line'... 'Hold on' 🔥🤘
In the 80's, Triumph scored a series of gold selling albums in the US and a string of radio singles... 'Fight the good fight' was a major hit and this performance in 1983 @ Us Festival in California marked a peak for the band as they toured arenas ... However, Triumph's popularity began to wane in 1988 and guitarist Rik Emmett quit the band soon after for a solo career.
Triumph enlisted guitarist Phil X for their last studio album in 1992 'Edge of Excess'... Triumph split up in 1993 after the album failed commercially and their record label folded.
In 2008, the original Triumph (Emmett, Moore & Levine) reunited for a few live shows and released a concert DVD in 2012... They have since declined to reunite again and recently released a career documentary movie - "Triumph: Rock n' roll machine"
Thankyou for introducing me to another great band. Some of them are a bit iffy, but this was a revolution. Love his Gibson Les Paul sunburst. One of the few guitars you can play that hard without it distorting.
Spellcheck took revelation and turned it into revolution. Sorry about that.
It is a Framus Akkerman guitar...pretty rare! '74 vintage I believe
one of the reactions that I like from you biscute
In my opinion Triumph is the best Canadian band ever!!! (and yes, I know Rush was from Canada)
You said something about how you love double neck guitars on another video, which is funny because Rick Emmett any and every other time would be playing a double neck guitar.
Rik Emmet is one of the most under recognized guitarists ever. And Triumph is the often overlooked "other" three man rock band from Canada. For just a taste of Rik's amazing skill level, check out "Petite Etude"from their Allied Forces album
Biss... "Lay it on the Line" is a fantastic song by these guys, same concert. Love Ya, Miss Biss!❤
