This city is a great example of what happens when people use highways instead of arterials and ignore collectors. All that city highway should become arterials, and then all those space consuming interchanges can become simple collector intersections, then local connections to the collectors. All of these problems were created because the city creator ignored road hierarchy.

It means that two cars can get off the roundabout, or the one in the middle can go straight. Lots depends on the roads off the roundabout, you would need two lanes off and map them properly.
I look forward to a couple biffa cities skylines videos every week and the days when they do come out it’s very entertaining yet relaxing to watch in the morning :) thank you for all the hard work keep it up
I’m surprised Biffa didn’t add more local roads / bridges over the highways. It was forcing people onto the highways if there weren’t easy ways to connect to different parts of the city
Seriously. Absolutely no pedestrian or bike connections either so everyone had to drive and get on the highway. Makes no sense. You can definitely tell that Biffa drives everywhere IRL.
18:04 Well.. Close enough I guess 😂 Most of the roads coming up were forced to cross traffic. I think you did the typical UK-Europe left/right confusion.
Another fun fix, and a great example of what some good mass transit can do. One suggestion for the user that I haven't seen in the comments is to connect the islands with a few bridges/tunnels, and use the waterways for some ferry routes. That would go a long way toward taking some pressure off of the highway, and particularly that one roundabout that seems to handle the bulk of the city's traffic.
Ah, I love community city fixes! A great example of how TMPE doesn't just magically solve traffic problems. Reminds me of a city I once built specifically to avoid any kind of traffic jams, with intricate one way systems, lane mathematics etc., everything thought out. Turned out to be the worst city I ever built. Garbage trucks were unable to find efficient routes to all the neighbourhoods, endless streams of trucks ran through quiet neighbourhoods because the intended route took too long, etc. Had to abandon it eventually. Options, traffic needs loads of options to get anywhere. If they do, a few wonky junctions won't need to process that much traffic and give you some leeway in designing them. Very educative as always Biffa.
That lane management is the tipic Biffa mistake when you get distracted speaking, but in every single highway/node ahahah Good fix and beat as always . Nice to ear on the background. ahah
Ah it's been a while since we had a traffic fix episode. Like I said in the community tab, I miss them when we go too long without one so it's nice to have one again. One thing though, that before and after section at around 35-36 minutes could have used some speeding up, it felt like we were crawling along that stretch of road. The parts that come after that with the roundabout and the new road you build were more enjoyable to watch.
People really complicate themselves with the metro lines. My way of doing it is this: have the city segmented in areas somehow and put a metro loop inside of each one placing stops near to another's loop stops and a couple in the middle, so citizens can jump from loop to loop and travel across the whole city without the need of using cars. If one loop is too far apart from the other, i just set a straight line of metro tunnel with 2 vehicles going back and forth so they can do the jump. Also, using a train line around the outside of the city with a stop in every area on the edges also helps massively. Also, pedestrian walks are your friends!! Ask them for help!!
I use trams quite a lot for slower public transport. Metros can then be used for longer distance and inter sectional traffic. Usually, I have one line per station (only on loops one line per direction, like in Glasgow in gray and orange).
@@reinerjung1613 i have 2 lines per loop (learned it from Biffa), clock wise and anticlockwise. And i personally dont like to use methods of transportation that require more vehicles on the road even if those vehicles avoid having extra cars. Bus lines for example, i use them, yes, but only a few and in really small areas to cover local transit. For example, to me, a bus using a highway is a no-no. What I like to do is abuse pedestrian paths. I like giving citizens that option as much as i can. If the distance isnt too big, they will always choose to walk.
Wow, that was a hard one, so satisfying to watch it fixed. Appreciate the effort you put into this awesome channel! Just wondering how would multiple straight ones across the section work better than a large zig-zag loop for metro? I have always been struggling to get my metro coverage up high.
There is something so satisfying about watching the traffic start to flow again. Everytime I build an area in cities skylines I always end up spending an hour after making each area okay for traffic!
Walkways! The cims want to walk. They will walk up to 120 units to a bus stop, subway, their destination, or any combination of other mass transit station/stops that will take the cims to within 120 units, after that they will drive the entire way. That's my two farthings worth. Love the videos, thank you.
This was a really straightforward city fix, Biffa. The additional four way elevated median road helped with moving the traffic, along with the new metro stops and lines. Maybe a monorail line would have helped even better... 🤔
That was an amazing city fix. Really demonstrates how road design and mass transit have a huge impact on traffic flow. Also, I never use the clover leaf junctions in my cities. They seem to be the single biggest cause of backups.
I'm so pleased you have done another traffic fix, I find them one of the best things on your channel, feel like they got put on the back burner for too long.
The town names make my head hurt, but I quite enjoyed the fix, Bif! Haven't seen a lot of cities skylines content lately, but always great to be back for more.
I was screaming at the screen: make a pedestrian connection from the harbor it's way too far to the metro station!!!!! amazing fix, went up from 20% to almost 90%? brilliant!
In my city I have mild congestion mostly at busy roads joining onto a busy that goes onto the Highway. But I do have metro, trains and buses ferries and an airport which are all free.
Biffa changes all the directions for getting onto the platform, but gives them the arrow to only cross over by saying they need the direction so they don't cross over. Well done 😏
Running an elevated expressway through an urban park! It's a good thing you're not a real city planner Biffa! Great video. Rather than building the expressway you could have just set up a Park Avenue type road along the edges of the park (with one way roads in each direction). This would be much better for a city centre but still allow you to zip through to the motorway.
Cause you prefer not to mess with city design and save yourself some time, there are cases like this one, were the city does not have proper road herarchy. For a city like this I'd go with a different approach and repurpose some roads (mod roads to avoid destroying city layout) The lack of connections between sections is overloading the usage of nearby highways. Again, nice work done as always. Hats off.
Great Job Biffa... My wife and I have learned alot from you on fixing traffic problems.... YES!!!!! I did say I got my wife hooked on this game... with your help of course ;)
Before you add lanes to a road in order to fix a traffic jam, try this one trick: imagine Biffa just appeared in front of you and is demanding an explanation. If you can't cite a specific way it would help (other than More Lanes = Less Traffic), don't do it!

Literally the M6 in the West Midlands most times of the day a car park espeically at Rush hours and that then clogs up other major arterial routes this city is like that before you fixed it
11:56 "One lane - more than enough!" Um... I don't think so, because... less than one lane... wouldn't be enough? 😁😁😁 5:32 I thought at first all 3 lanes of the highway were being forced off onto the slip road, but I see now one lane was allowed to carry on. 😌
This was a fantastic video! Thanks a lot for explaining this and thanks to Sveb for sharing his map. I noticed a lot of mistakes I did on my own creations and now know how to fix them. Great! :)
Just brilliant to see this HUGE traffic fix... We can all learn from each other. I do hope that the person that created / made this city learned a thing or 2. :-)
Maybe it's just me, but I felt a bit cheated that Biffa used the clear all traffic option. Part of the fun of watching these traffic fixes is seeing that gradual improvement over time and seeing how traffic flow is increasing. Clearing all the traffic felt like skipping to the end of the fix, so it was less fun for me to watch.
I've only just started playing, had a city hit 36,000 people and the traffic went from 80% right down to 30% in almost no time 😅 Definitely taking notes!
This city is just a lesson in pointless redundancy. So many failed attempts to bypass traffic, when all you did was move it off the highway and into some dinky underground tunnel that becomes the new stuck point. Road hierarchy and real junctions fix almost everything.
I think you could have solved it without clearing the traffic. There is a big problem visible at 23:16 where traffic trying to turn left to enter the highway can't, because it is blocked by traffic trying to turn left to leave the highway and get to the roundabout. But since the traffic can't turn left to the highway, they can't clear the roundabout and the cloverleaf and roundabout gridlocks each other. I'm willing to bet that replacing the cloverleaf with a turbine or just building a small bypass for left turning traffic would have solved a lot of the problems in the city.
18:00 When you use the medium/large roads as an arterial and have ramps, wouldn't you want ramps on each side and then use the lane connectors so they don't cross the median? We have some at-grade arterials around here, but if you allow both directions to turn, it would usually be a straight road and not ramps.
I feel Organic & Local Produce is underrated. It produces no noise and also serves as a mini-factory, reducing load on goods-producing industry. The downsides are it is still low density and thus not scalable beyond suburban neighborhoods and requires agricultural imports, which Recycling Centers can help with. They're great in situations like this where you have a huge residential neighborhood with no commercial in sight. Problems with agricultural deliveries can be smoothed out with nearby warehouses set to "Zoned Industry - Farming Products".
Mass Transit and giving your citizens options to get to multiple locations by various means is crucial in a city design like this. Imagine if you had Varsity Sports or Concerts! The city would be totally chock-a-block. Give them options and use good road hierarchy.

Man, I salute your patience in fixing dysfunctional cities. I can imagine the amount of cussing that don't make it to the final cut XD
Drivers in that city: "Ya do the horky borky and you turn yourself around, and that is a round-a-bout!"
That lane management is the tipic Biffa mistake when you get distracted speaking, but in every single highway/node ahahah
Good fix and beat as always .
Oh my - a fix your city! Got my cup of tea ready - here we go!
Perfect! :-)
@@Prokonover Buses on highways is definitely a no-go. And indeed I forgot to mention pedestrians. ;-) I definitely agree on that too.
Wow, that was a hard one, so satisfying to watch it fixed. Appreciate the effort you put into this awesome channel!
Just wondering how would multiple straight ones across the section work better than a large zig-zag loop for metro? I have always been struggling to get my metro coverage up high.
Another great job you've done! Love your fixes and am looking forward to another episode of the 5 builders project. Have a great week, Biffa.
Thanks, you too! :-)
Love a classic traffic fix; feels like coming back to what I started following Biffa in the beginning.
There is something so satisfying about watching the traffic start to flow again. Everytime I build an area in cities skylines I always end up spending an hour after making each area okay for traffic!
So glad to see the fix your city throwback!! These are like ASMR for me and always super calming to watch!
Walkways! The cims want to walk. They will walk up to 120 units to a bus stop, subway, their destination, or any combination of other mass transit station/stops that will take the cims to within 120 units, after that they will drive the entire way. That's my two farthings worth.
Love the videos, thank you.
It's so good to see all this metro lines working properly. Nice fix ☺️
They seem to be the single biggest cause of backups.
imagine driving down a six lane road and then at the junction you only have 3 to choose from
I'm so pleased you have done another traffic fix, I find them one of the best things on your channel, feel like they got put on the back burner for too long.
The town names make my head hurt, but I quite enjoyed the fix, Bif!
Haven't seen a lot of cities skylines content lately, but always great to be back for more.
O im excited. This kinda vid is what got me into trying your other content
Thank you Emile van der Merwe :-)
I was screaming at the screen: make a pedestrian connection from the harbor it's way too far to the metro station!!!!! amazing fix, went up from 20% to almost 90%? brilliant!
Yay! I missed the city fixing. It's such a relaxing series. Thanks Biffa! :)
In my city I have mild congestion mostly at busy roads joining onto a busy that goes onto the Highway. But I do have metro, trains and buses ferries and an airport which are all free.
Build bike lanes. They work.
Great to see Biffa fixing cities again! More of these as long as he doesn't loose his nerves on fixing them 😂
Biffa changes all the directions for getting onto the platform, but gives them the arrow to only cross over by saying they need the direction so they don't cross over.
For a city like this I'd go with a different approach and repurpose some roads (mod roads to avoid destroying city layout)
The lack of connections between sections is overloading the usage of nearby highways.
Again, nice work done as always. Hats off.
Great Job Biffa... My wife and I have learned alot from you on fixing traffic problems.... YES!!!!! I did say I got my wife hooked on this game... with your help of course ;)
This city would do great with lots of walking paths too connecting those residential to commercial areas!
Before you add lanes to a road in order to fix a traffic jam, try this one trick: imagine Biffa just appeared in front of you and is demanding an explanation. If you can't cite a specific way it would help (other than More Lanes = Less Traffic), don't do it!
3:50 he’s like ok let’s fix this then he’s plesently surprised like oh you already did then he’s like wait a min u over did it, got his hopes up then crushed them 😂
Literally the M6 in the West Midlands most times of the day a car park espeically at Rush hours and that then clogs up other major arterial routes this city is like that before you fixed it
11:56 "One lane - more than enough!" Um... I don't think so, because... less than one lane... wouldn't be enough? 😁😁😁
5:32 I thought at first all 3 lanes of the highway were being forced off onto the slip road, but I see now one lane was allowed to carry on.
Your city fixes are what got me on your channel. I enjoy the problem solving. If you enjoy making this sort of content I would love to see more :)
For this one it was soo ooooh bad I'd have to sit at the PC for hours watching it clear 1 car at a time.....yeah. No time for that! 😉
Always love to see a good city fix video :)
That's one hell of a fix. Great job biffa!
Thank you Fernie Edrian Vidal :-)
Biffa, at @18:30 you made the turnon/turnoffs the wrong way :p
Yeah saw that after...oh well still worked :P
This is actually a really cool map and think you'd make a beautiful city here!
Saved the city again, great work Biffa!
Yes! Thank you! :-)
This was a good old traffic fix. Thank you Biffa!
Love your city fix videos!! Thanks very much for a new one! 👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you like them! :-)
I love watching your videos ! :) I used to have a lot of problems with Traffic now I built a huge city with 86% traffic. I'm so proud
Nice work!
Nice job! Turned out better than I thought possible.
I really liked the elevated collector with the park-like trees under and around it.
36:20 why is there a 85° road on the right?
This was a very satisfying fix. Amazing what a difference a good mass transit system makes.
Great fix Biffa. You could have used walking paths in a few places, though.
Don't known if you know barney but you made train stops look like a big purple dinosaur lol
Best Fix in my opinion so far. City looks really nice and episode was fun to watch.
My soul enjoys when you put metro lines and they work amazing
18:00 When you use the medium/large roads as an arterial and have ramps, wouldn't you want ramps on each side and then use the lane connectors so they don't cross the median? We have some at-grade arterials around here, but if you allow both directions to turn, it would usually be a straight road and not ramps.
Hi, loving your traffic fixes! You should try to fix Los Angeles traffic in a video if you can track down a recreation or make one!
I love when the first half of the video is just undoing what the original person built 😂 gets me every time
Biffa!!! CITY FIXES!!!!! HAPPY TUESDAY indeed.
Same to you! :-)
Mass Transit and giving your citizens options to get to multiple locations by various means is crucial in a city design like this. Imagine if you had Varsity Sports or Concerts! The city would be totally chock-a-block. Give them options and use good road hierarchy.
You put a turning lane in, a turning lane out
In out, in out, you build a roundabout
You pour another cuppa from your teapot spout
That's what it's all about
WHOOOOOOOOA, horky borky borky
WHOOOOOOOOA, horky borky borky
WHOOOOOOOOA, horky borky borky
Tea's drunk, city's fixed, rah rah rah!
No cap, that was actually pretty good. I read that in biffas voice too lol.
Fantastic! :-)

One more for the Agadoo fans:
Hugo Through, Through, Through, go by train don't go by road
Hugo Through, Through, Through, pick your lane before this node
Turning left? Turning right? Asymmetric roads will make your day
Add a timed traffic light, making loads of cars give way
The Yorkshire Tea has just mashed, teapot's ready to tip
When Cities Skylines has crashed, we'll have another quick sip
Hugo Through, Through, Through...
They really needed you to fix this
its like me when i cut off the power supply and only noticed once all my 50.000 citizens have already left.. luckily still had a enough money to restore everything, but it took years to get those citizens back. Actually enjoyed the look of the ghost town :D
Hey Biffa, no pressure but what about ONI at your other channel? Did the game lost that much interest to the point most creators stopped playing it, or did I missed any announcement about it? I understand you have only a certain amount of time to play/record/edit/publish, and there are other games (for instance, Dyson Space Program, which I'm literally building a sphere while I watch this video), so can't expect anybody to do it all at once. Thanks for all the hints and tips you provide on all games you play and videos you share.
I'm not really a Let's Play channel that will play a game for 100's of episodes until the whole thing is complete. On my 2nd channel I'll play something that catches my eye for as long as I have the time. This month has been super busy :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Being busy lately is good. Super busy, not always good ;) Thanks again for your efforts!
It really is incredible how much traffic backs up when you turn despawn off. My city is 71% traffic with 207k people. For fun, I hit the don't despawn button... I bottom out at 34%, and now my percentage is coming up... but population has dropped to 120k.
Coming back up now... around 45% with only 92k, and still shrinking!
Sounds like I shouldn't ever touch that button again...
That's a content I subscribed for!😄😃
