Here are some traffic tipps from myself: roundabouts max 4 connections in. Never force them through choke points always give several entry and exits. When you make a road for traffic going through a populated area you can put in right turn only one way roads, they'll allow people to leave the connector without blocking it, ensure to block turning left wherever it would be possible. In city centers at traffic lights take away the zebra crossings and force them to use a pedestrian bridge or tunnel, that way cars don't have to stop. Don't put bus stops in busy areas, put them near but not on them as busses can clog your lanes completely. Don't concentrate industry. Also don't build a cargo hub/train harbor if it would mean it's the best way for all your industry to export because then they'll all go there. Always give other industrial areas more options. You can experiment with heavy traffic only roads connecting industrial and import areas with your commercial zones and then ban these trucks from the other faster regular roads. To keep commutes short build commercial and residential areas spread out and close to each other instead of having just one very busy city center. You can of course also do what real cities do and ban all cars from your shopping streets. Also design your roads to accommodate faster bicycle and pedestrian paths. Some pedestrian and bicycle paths will be the fastest way to get around and would be super busy.
I love when you ban the left turns and force them to go around the roundabout! That cuts down on a lot of traffic because everybody doesn’t have to cross over each other.
For areas with much storage you can use roads with median in order to stop the "criss crossing". Just make sure to have somewhere to turn around (e.g. roundabout).
One of the things I have learned is you can neutralize a lane in an industry area by taking the lane and removing all arrows (no turning or going straight allowed). The lane is then only used by traffic that will visit the industry- sort of like a shoulder or breakdown lane. Works great, and traffic keeps flowing. It is actually a good use of the 6 lane two way or 3 lane one way road, allowing two travel lanes and one lane dedicated to stopped trucks.

So calming and satisfying to see you play , build and fix cities.. you ever thought about creating a series on Transport Fever 2?? Would really love to see your creativity on that 🙂🙂
I only just started playing this again, after four years away, and I know you are 'The Expert' when it comes to these kinds of problems, but if you don't mind me saying so, I think maybe you've become so dependent on your traffic manager that you have forgotten some of the basics. The last two videos I saw very simple road-fixes (add an extra access road) that would have solved a problem way simpler than all your intersection tweaks. In both cases, the builder had traffic doing these wasteful loops around everything. Also, classic mistake - leaving one one or two ways in and out of the city via highways. I use LOTS of ramps, so trucks don't get bottle-necked going through one spot. They jump-off the highway at the most convenient point.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Don't get me wrong, I've found your 'traffic mathematics' videos invaluable. That why I subscribed just before the above message. If using highway roads for roundabouts, reduce the speed limit on them to match the roads coming on, or be slightly lower. Gives traffic coming on more time to get on.
Get rid of the roundabout bypass lane at the start and could have saved ten mins, also near cargo hub road network was too confused should have took all roads out and started again. Good old biffa loves a hugo there and dedicated turning lane :-)
I think that sometimes in a roundabout there should be 2 turning lanes and 1/2 straight lane rather than 1 turning lane and 2 straight lanes when 6(3-3)lane roads (or similar) are being connected in a roundabout.
I got a neat idea of a video I'd like you to do. It would seam like common sense "why not have all roads 6 lanes and you would never have traffic?" A video showing a sample city with 6 lanes roads everywhere with massive traffic. Then going through and doing your magic and showing how proper 2 Lane roads fixes the problem. I swear city planners should be required to be experts in this game to graduate.
11:50 Interesting 2+1 should be 3, yet the road used is a 2 lane road and neither of the oncoming traffic can switch to the exit they wish. They are pretty much forced to stick to where they are. I personally would have upgraded that to a 3 lane and the one below it as well. This to make sure traffic would flow a but better and a bit faster. Even better, I would have completely redone that mess as it makes no sense. Too many roads, not a single one really doing what it should be doing ending up becoming a pain.

Yep
If we all follow the blue car that's gonna be one very busy roundabout very soon :D
Anyone else make rushed cities so the traffic is bad so they can fix it? Just me?
Also great video as always :)
I remember doing that playing sim city on the Super Nintendo as a kid. Fixing up cities is so satisfying even today, and now I can just watch Biffa do it when I don’t have the mental energy to do it myself lol
I don't need to rush my cities to get to fix my cities :D
me... wants to send in a city at some point to see it getting fixed...
also me... plays in hard mode always fixing if it gets below 80% ... -.-"
Use your skills for evil, and create an unfixable mess of spaghetti junctions to drive him mad. Punintended
Could send in a city as a feature request?
Or if your trains get out of whack.
Or if you want a certain area detailed!
@@GoodFunIndustries my trains are never out of whack, trains are my speciality ;)
@@raistormrs Heck yes! Just in game, or out as well?
@@GoodFunIndustries just in this game. but there have to be a lot of enthusiasts judging by all the train stuff in the workshop :)
Biffa's cit planning course should be taught in unis.
That's the same map as Teaport, isn't it?
Yes it is!
So calming and satisfying to see you play , build and fix cities.. you ever thought about creating a series on Transport Fever 2?? Would really love to see your creativity on that 🙂🙂
Pizza and biffa? Great lunchtime
I try and do different things in each video to keep things fresh 👍
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Don't get me wrong, I've found your 'traffic mathematics' videos invaluable. That why I subscribed just before the above message. And I DO get that you are just trying to 'repair' someone else's city, but in some of these, the 'spaghetti monster' is just too out-of-control. Cheers.
I dont play or own the game, but i do enjoy listening to you fixing peoples cities
29:32 the blue truck takes a 360 to get over the roundabout.. and the blue car afterwards needs a 720 :D
I appreciate the concluding remarks that you made at the end during the cinematic‘s.
I bet this city has a port that imports tea.
Its the same map as teaport so, it must have that
No ports at all :’( its blasphemy
Can you have a look at my city, it's called Crawley and based in the south of the UK, has a number of really bad roundabouts which I think you could work wonders with! haha
I think he has a form to ask if you want your city fixed. I’m not sure where it is tho. Maybe in his channels about section or in the description of the video. I can’t be bothered to checl
@@Harlz2807 I was being silly, Crawley is a real place in the South UK which has some really bad roundabouts that I sometimes worry about if I will survive going round lol
Say what you want, but Biffas videos are quite therapeutic to watch and risten too whdle making dinner.
29:40 That blue car just drove around the roundabout twice!

Can you do a Fix my City with Real cities? Do it so we can see what could be improved in our cities!!!
Yeah, especially Aarhus highway in Denmark.
It would seam like common sense "why not have all roads 6 lanes and you would never have traffic?"
A video showing a sample city with 6 lanes roads everywhere with massive traffic. Then going through and doing your magic and showing how proper 2 Lane roads fixes the problem.
I swear city planners should be required to be experts in this game to graduate.
12:07 Can you delete the roundabout bypass lane? Seems to create two unnecessary junctions (diverge and merge)
29:41 the blue car that doesn't want to leave the roundabout!
28:40 .... that sounds like the start of Money Magic!
Whenever i see junctions on two or more joining fast roads, i think elevated roundabout or flyover.
Hey biffa! Nice video! For some reason yt waited 5 month to show it in my feed!
You did a great job with this fix! One day I'll own all dlc and try it my own way!
Imagine a face off between biffa and Josh from let's game it out where Biffa tries to fix a city and Josh tries to destroy it
IMPECCABLE TIMING! Online school just got over!
29:40 around, around we go . Where we spot no ones knows , but mommy I am getting car sick 😂🤣😂🤣
