As a native New Yorker for most of my life, I can say with authority that you can increase the realism a bit by cutting mass transit and highway department funding to minimum and increasing the road rage to maximum. Biffa needs to read "The Power Broker" about the guy behind all the bridges and highways built in NYC in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Forty minutes without a single Robert Moses joke or reference is UNACCEPTABLE 😉😂
After a somewhat disastrous start to my day (4 hr wait for an emergency electrician after a plug socket blew) I really needed this, love your content. Thanks for making my day better :)
The 12% traffic flow is pretty normal in NYC. I have family and friends down there and have ridden with others, which is more preferable, because I can shut my eyes when the jams and near misses get too bad rather than drive. The last time I was down there, we stayed with some friends in New Jersey and took the Lincoln Tunnel in and out. Going into the city, the traffic was so bad that people were squeezing into lanes just like they do in the game. For once we can say that the traffic in CS is actually modeled realistically!
Also consider, that that’s not even the full city, it’s (for the most part) only Manhattan (one of the burrows and the part of NYC everyone thinks about when talking about NYC). It appears to be missing, Statin Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. Not to mention, all of the surrounding suburbs. So add traffic from all of that to this map and then you have a truly accurate portrayal
Thank you for your recent video about timed traffic lights. In my current city i came to a intersection that i cant just add a round about or yield signs. Your video inspired me to test timed traffic lights, and now i have several timed lights in my city and traffic is flowing better than ever! Im now at 78% traffic flow now with the timed traffic lights, i was at 23% before using the yield signs.
The heavily used local road at 37:39 is due to the local route being shorter than the 4 lane avenue due to the grid being off. Messing with the speed limit will encourage traffic down the collector avenue and mean less tinkering with traffic light timings and worrying about multiple junctions.
The whole video, and I discovered something about Biffa; If you ever like watching traffic in a tunnel, Biffa WILL delete your WITHOUT hesitation. Great Vid Biff 👍
First thing that I noticed was at 0:36 where to the right of the bottom group of wind mills you've got a roundabout that doesn't serve any purpose. Will have to download the city and have a look.
Hi ... 39:12 Yes, transforming a road's connection to a roundabout to two one-ways can help massively. I tend to upgrade the one-way for vehicles entering the roundabout - in this case it would be three lanes. Three, because the roundabout has three lanes and there are three other exits (I'm not counting the option to turn around); if those numbers differ, I'd take the lower number. Due to the spiral behaviour of roundabout the three lanes should then represent the three different paths to the first, second, third exit. Dedicated lanes entering roundabouts are actually a thing.
It wasn't 12% the moment he checked, but it totally went down this far later, so I guess 12% is still a valid answer to the question how far it's "gonna get down to"
@@martinandersen1849 I don't think he disagrees on the 12%. What he probably meant was that many people still don't notice the 12% written in the video title. The percentage definitely dropped to 12% at time code 4:48
9:18 If you can adjust the length of the road section, couldn't you pull it back a bit from the roundabout and not mess it up? 34:53 I think the easiest and most stable fix for that junction is to make all the highways going in and out 4-lane and split them into 2 2-lanes and one of those again into 2 1-lanes. Kind of disappointed that you didn't give New York a functioning mass transit system.
Love watching the traffic fixing videos. So interesting how players can make up complex problems with their traffic. I often rush max level high density buildings instead of just doing proper planning with low density housing. Then I get hit by massive waves of people moving in and I end up putting in shortcuts everywhere which just causes more issues. Cities Skylines has taught me to pace myself while building and spend a bit more time planning out infrastructure. Such a great learning tool.
I really wish someone created a Staten Island map just to recreate the SI expressway and analyze why the traffic is ALWAYS abhorrent in the morning and rush hour.
i honestly hate that i'm too good at the game now to let traffic get this bad. even with despawning off its never like this, other than strange node glitches.
When cars have problems merging into lanes in highways, I like to make some of the nodes bigger with node controller, so they can actually maintain their speed while changing lanes, instead of what they seem to be doing in this video. I was so disappointed that Biffa didn't remove the road inside that one hw round-a-bout. No "Nice" at 69%, it's the law.
I watched a Time Lapse of someone building the city of Sydney, Australia.
