    Do you use your iPad to present or do you prefer using a laptop?

      I use Notability on my iPad 12.9 to teach math. On the left are my real-time class notes and on the right is a pdf of the book, My connection is via a VGA adapter. I am just replacing the projection source from PC to iPad. My students love it. I do not use Powerpoint as I would go too fast. The students need to see me think.

      iPad is the way to go. It, with an Apple Pencil, takes presentations to the next level. I am an attorney and a long time teacher at my church - both Sunday school and advanced seminary level courses on a variety of subjects. I use my iPad Pro and the “Explain Everything” whiteboard software. The things you can do are breathtaking and limited only by your own imagination. You can even record a RUclips video while you teach the class. Yeah, it’s that cool. I use this set up for young children, Sunday school students, Seminary students, lawyers at legal seminars and for juries at trial. You can import notes from GoodNotes and presentations from PowerPoint. It’s awesome.

      I generally prepare on my desktop, saving the Power Point (or whatever) to my cloud (OneDrive), from which I can access the content for presentation via the iPad. In our classrooms, we have access to ports that support USB-C outputs to a screen. Great video, Tom. THANKS!!!

    I’m using a VGA adapter (from Apple) with my iPad 2018 since I have it simply because most projectors only support VGA. Another advantage is that when I’m connecting my Chromebook to the HDMI port I still have the VGA for my iPad. My colleagues are already used to switching to VGA and back when I’m presenting results or about my work. Zooming in a picture with my fingers with my iPad is still breathtaking for some of them :-) The relative new presentation feature in GoodNotes5 is perfect for my kind of presentations.

    Is there anything special you need to do after connecting the HDMI Cable Adapter? I tried it yesterday and it didnt automatically project and I couldn't get it to work. Thank you, - Steve

    I’ve been using my iPad Pro with GoodNotes 5 in the classroom for over a year now. I use an Apple TV to project what I’m doing. It has completely changed my teaching and the students love it and so do I.

      Thanks for sharing this with us! So do you mirror the screen or have you found a way to extend your screen on the Apple TV?

    • @FrankbeingFrankaboutstuff
      @FrankbeingFrankaboutstuff 4 года назад +1

      Tom Solid's #PaperlessMovement I do mirror my screen. With GoodNotes, I have three presentation modes: Mirror Entire Screen, Mirror Presenter Page, and Mirror Full Page. If I want to do a side-by-side (ie., textbook and GoodNotes, I use Mirror Entire Screen). I have to say your videos were the catalyst that got me to purchase my IPad Pro which has changed the way I teach. I’m engrossed in the paperless movement and have to say that I’ve probably cut my paper use by 90%. Keep on producing content that makes a difference. All the best.

    Great presentation! I do have one question. How do you transmit to the external screen so that the display there does not include the tools bar of Goodnoates? I use Zoom a lot and I log my iPad Pro as a co-presenter, but cannot get rid of the tool bar. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more.

    Hi, this is helpful, but is there a way to use a clicker to advance slides (NOT a phone)? That for me would be a deal breaker. On the Surface, I click the "eraser" at the back of the pen to do this.

      If you use the Apple adapter with HDM/USB-A/USB-C, you can plug in the receiver or cable for a clicker/remote to advance slides. I’ve used the DSan PerfectCue attached in this way to control Keynote and PowerPoint presentations.

    Thanks you Tom for this helpfull video. I have a question, when you connect the ipad pro 2020 to a projector with HDMI, is it possible to keep the sound coming out from the ipad pro 2020 (many projectors doesn't have speakers) ?

    Can we use a wireless clicker with the iPad to change slides on PowerPoint/Keynote when we're standing away from it?

      I have the same question. Sometimes I like to walk around during a presentation.

      I use my Logitec clicker using Bluetooth connection and it works fine. Basically a clicker will be seen by the iPad (or PCs) as an external keyboard - hence any Bluetooth clicker should work.

    • @tdiem5357
      @tdiem5357 2 года назад

      Yes, you can. If you use the Apple adapter with HDM/USB-A/USB-C, you can plug in the receiver or cable for a clicker/remote to advance slides. I’ve used the D-San PerfectCue in this way. And there is the option of a Bluetooth clicker as mmustho suggests.

    Great session again. I use PowerPoint and keynote for all my presentations as I teach at a university. I also use hdmi and vga and I control my presentation on my iPhone by remote, which let me walk around the stage or classroom.
    You are correct to get the results use the apple accessory. The only issues I have is I can not use the Apple Pencil on my iPhone.

      Dr Joseph V Russo I made this step already with the Note9. The stylus is awesome! The OS and the app quality is not...hence I went back to Apple! Here is the full story if you want to know more about the reasons I had www.paperlessmovement.com/blog/why-i-returned-my-galaxy-note-9-and-bought-an-iphone-xs-max/

    iPad is very convenient specially when presenting during symposium because it’s lightweight. I connect my iPad to the projector using the original dongle from Apple and use my iPhone as Keynote remote.

    But video presentations which have audio do not work with simple hdmi cables. They require separate audio input cable which iPad Pro doesn’t have.

    I use AirServer to mirror my iPad 2017 (10.5”). It works well with my students. What is the advantage of extending the screen rather than mirroring it? Thank you.

    • @paperlessmove
      @paperlessmove  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for this info. Extending gives you the advantage to see some additional notes and the toolbars on only your iPad. Like for PowerPoint you also see the previous and next slide.

    We use an Ipad to teach on our online platform. The biggest issue is finding an app that presents in full screen, Powerpoint is the only one that I've found that removes the black borders on the sides but you are limited in pen options. Does anyone know of any other app that solves this issue??

  • @wingsley

    I do not understand why the iPad must have a wired connect to an external display to do this. Why can't we use WiFi? There needs to be a video to show us how to connect an iPad to a TV or projector wirelessly for freedom of movement during a presentation.
