I would like to say that I think Bo is making a comparison between him & Kanye's mental health while still trying to do it in a comedic way, however Bo ended up having a REAL break down and anxiety attack while performing this on stage during THIS performance. I think Bo dealt with his issues in a much more healthy way,but I also see his point that fame can make anyone have a mental break or anxiety attack under the right set of circumstances and that he kinda understands why Kanye acts so erratic and crazy...he has been there too.however, again,Bo handles his issues in a more constructive way that brings awareness and light to the subject of mental struggles, whereas Kanye tends to go off the deep end with no positive outcome or with more negative consequences. Bo is not only clever but very intelligent and creative in the way he approaches tough subjects.you should watch his live performance of Left brain,Right brain...its fantastic and very well done!! Thank you for reacting to this.🎶🔥✌

"I hope I can give you something, I can not give myself"... "I hope you're happy" after autotuning a mental breakdown, Bo is somethin' else. It should be taken as a parody on the surface but underneath that you can tell he's hurting. Or at least he was, hopefully he's doin' better now...

It is also a remarkable comment on Kanye. Bo starts by making fun of Kanye, and inviting us in on the joke, but the coda to the song kind of demonstrates an understanding, a kinship, with Kanye's mental health struggles.

75 yr old guy here from Bo's area: Boston Mass. Saw his first video 3 years ago and experienced goose bumps and tears in same song. Never in my life has this happened. Watch new reactions to Bo, for last 3 years. I find your reactions the ones, I can't handle. Please stop having to look at what Bo is singing. Every syllable he says is perfect: since he started "My whole family" at 16 or 17 years age. I have never in my 75 years come across a talented as Bo: writing, singing, piano, guitar etc. I know you love Bo, but every one of your reaction aggravates me.

God this performance breaks me every time I hear it. I've spent a neurodivergent lifetime with mental health issues (the childhood and early adult abuse didn't help) so I feel this performance stab through me once he gets to the "but my biggest problem's you" part. The brutal honesty in it rips me apart, the gutteral screams catch my breath and the "I hope you're happy" at the end is the 1-2-KO punch. It breaks my heart because I understand on some level... though I never had the balls to get on stage (I sing). I had one panic attack on stage as a child and I never did another solo performance. Side from being brilliant, this man has balls. Once he figures himself out fully and accepts it for whatever it is, he'll have his true freedom to be whatever he wants to be without having the constant worry about things that really shouldn't matter. He'll figure it out. Both he and my son are very clever.

our unconscious mind speaks, it seeps into our ideas, the words we select, our moods…sometimes even during a parody the unconscious decides it’s a good idea to push all the anxiety out, during a performance…because the mind doesn’t know he’s performing, the mind thinks his mood and words are about himself.

This is made extremely evident many times in his acts, but most evident by the line " come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself". After opening up like that, it would have hurt much more to walk off in silence. I'm speaking as a performing musician that also suffered from anxiety and panic attacks on stage occasionally. The applause doesn't really help in that case, but the silence would be horrible, imo.

A huge piece of context about this is that after this performance, he went on hiatus for a few years. As he’d later go on to talk about, he quit comedy for a bit because his anxiety got so bad he was literally having panic attacks on-stage.
For a while, he was getting better, but then right as he wanted to get back into things the pandemic hit and he was trapped inside with his own thoughts for a while. This led him to create the Netflix special Inside, which is a look into his mental state over the course of its filming and probably one of my favorite comedy specials ever.

Plus, maybe this is just me, but I feel like them being metaphors would take away from what the song is.
