I’ve seen this bit 100 a times. I always love watching reactors laughing half way through and me knowing they are emotionally about to get kicked in the nuts. Love Bo. Nice reaction Sir.
"I guess I'll just shut up and do my job, so here I go" This line breaks me every time, feeling that the audience is collectively shouting "Dance monkey, dance" Bos pain is so palpable and raw.
@@msalasan I don't think its fair to blame the audience here for not understanding. He did an amazing job masking his crisis here especially when performing to an audience who are just trying to have a good time while trying to forget their own troubles. It is genuinely difficult to understand how someone else is feeling on a personal level. It is exponentially harder when the artist is professionally masking their emotions at a comedy show and trying to make others happy who probably need it.
"attempts to give you what he can't give himself" "Thank you, good night, I hope you're happy" .... that specific combination of lines hits me every damn time.
"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself." That line tears me up inside every damn time I hear it. Every. Single. Time. As with many true artists, actors, comedians, singers, etc. who are depressed, they try to make others laugh so that they never have to feel that low. Giving others a laugh when they can't even laugh themselves.
that tears me up for sure but the screams at the end broke me every time. he was having a meltdown right there, full panic atack. i´m really happy he´s back and really hope he´s better.
I’ve been told by several people that my poetry has given them insight into what they or a loved one is going through, so… I publish all of my poetry no matter the topic (joy, sorrow, ideation, romance, philosophy, etc) so a person who is as curious or abstruse or alienated as me might find resonance. People should feel understood, un-alone…
Bo is needed. He's one of those once in a generation type of people. Are You Happy immediately follows this in the special, and then All Eyes On Me kind of explains what happened after, and it rocks my world every time. He actually won a Grammy foe All Eys On Me. He's so special.
You're the first reactor I've seen that responded to 14:40 the same way I did. "I guess I'll just shut up and do my job, so here I go" followed by going right back into the burrito bit. Except, this time, he's just like a mindless drone performing for his audience. He knows the audience doesn't care about what he's feeling. He's there to perform, and that's what they paid for. It really opened my eyes to viewing celebrities in a different light. Who knows what they have going on behind the stage? It's absolutely genius, and I'm sad for anyone who watches this and just laughs along the whole time as if it's still a comedy skit by the end.
it isn't just the celebrites that have the same problem. it can be a normal worker who has to do the same 5 step per hour work everyday like a machine and get's yelled at when he makes a mistake after doing it right a few thousand times.
@@dovos8572 Oh, 100%. I've been there. I just mentioned celebrities specifically because most people think they have the most amazing lives ever. I'm sure some of them do, but I bet there's a large percent who put on a facade when performing but are really hurting on the inside. Robin Williams is an example of this.
@@dylfleming it is the reason why i always say "i want to be rich but i don't want to be famous". the amount of problems that are connected to being famous is just way too big and the worst thing is that being famous doesn't even equal to being rich.
@@grammar_antifa well i think they didn't really realise what exactly was happening for the most part. and there is the possibility that the post production added to the cheering too. on the other hand the cheering gives it another level of meaning that it wouldn't have without it. it is suble but it is what disturbs you and makes you think more about why they are reacting the way they seemingly are.
For me, the gutpunch was when he went back into the chorus and people cheered and laughed as if he hadn't just dropped a truth bomb on them. Then he spelled it out "You can tell them anything if you make it funny, if you make it rhyme."
He took a five year hiatus because he was having severe panic attacks on stage. He was just about ready to start touring again when COVID hit. He talks about it on his Netflix Special "Inside".
I was tearing up with you and I saw this show live. I was crying at the end, felt hypocritical to clap but I didn't know how else to try and let him know he was appreciated for being honest, that I wanted to just fucking hug him. During this recording, he went into a panic attack during the last bit of the song. He couldn't get the mic to turn off so he dropped it while it was on and went back to his dressing room and broke down for an hour (per one of the few interviews he's done since). All Eyes on Me from his Inside special is a good next step. Him talking about those panic attacks and trying to get better. It'll make you cry, but fuck it's worth it. He also did a couple movies that were amazing. Acted and I believed helped with production of Promising Young Woman, and wrote Eighth Grade, both absolutely incredible.
This may the best reaction video I’ve seen to this performance. It’s clear you are a truly empathetic person and felt the depth of what Bo was feeling and conveying with the song. Thank you for this - it’s refreshing to see someone who’s willing to let themselves be seen as they are.
He wouldn't have got the fame if he knew it wouldn't fit. He always covers deep subjects in a humorous way. He has so many masterpieces, "Welcome To The Internet" is one of his best.
Appreciate you 🙏 saucy. Bo recently came back with his "Inside" special. All filmed and produced by Bo, from his home. His older material is just as fire 🔥. Check it out! Let's take this adventure! I'm here for it. Again, thank sir
SaucyDad: "this is some real stuff, I'm getting all emotional" Me: "you haven't even got to the real stuff yet. You don't know the half of it right now" SaucyDad: gets to the real stuff, speechless. I've been watching so many reactions to this song, and this has been the rawest and most emotional one so far. Your silence at the end said far more than many other have said using words. I mean, pretty much everyone 'gets' it. Plenty of people are blown away, speechless, a bit emotional and/or just like OMG. But you're only the second I've seen actually come to tears and, one of just a few i can tell 'really' felt it on a 'this hurts me' kind of level.
Bo did leave the limelight for five years. He came back with the INSIDE special. He did what. and Make Happy, left, and came back. Anxiety issues. He also has a book entitled EGGHEAD. It has many of his insights/poems from what. in it.
All eyes on me is the next video you should watch. It’s the “sequel” to Kanye rant. It fills in a little of the lore. Also all the other comments on this will as well. Lol
Please do All Eyes On Me by Bo if you can. Recent stuff from Bo after a long break, and does explain somewhat of what he went thru. Bo has so much amazing stuff, funny as well as heartbreaking.
How he says "I hope your happy" at the end gets me hard after my 50th watch, finally realising he is both saying he wishes everyone happiness but also distain for us putting pressure on him to please the audience
Bo was having a panic attack during this performance, when he finished he went back stage and cried for 2 hours,Bo is a comedic genius xx Thanks nick xx
This is correct, he mentions it in the Good Ones podcast and it’s also mentioned artistically in Inside. He was having panic attacks throughout the entire Make Happy tour
Bo fans will love you, because we all (except Fuel-For-Life) feel like this about this video. This was his last performance before taking a five year break, because his mental health. The good news is that he is back. The better news is that he is more serious (still comic) than ever. I think the next song should be ALL EYES ON ME, because it is very much connected to this one. Wellcome to the BO fan base.
I personally don't. He's singing about burritos and this guy is already "in depth" about "green paper" and social political and class division problems. So no, I did not love this video. Too forced.
@@MalkuthSephira It's cute that you think everything Bo Burnham writes has some double meaning when he himself has said he dislikes when people read too much into his stuff that is clearly supposed to be a joke and nothing more. But sure, take my criticism of the video as a personal insult and be a little child about it.
@@benboom910 Alright then, I'll give a more detailed response, though the reason I didn't do that in the first place is how clear it was that nothing I can say will get through in the slightest. Firstly, let's establish the obvious - you chose to say something that I personally think is very stupid in public, which you had every right to do, and I chose to respond rudely, which I also had every right to do. I'm assuming that those basic facts are something you already understand, but I think it's the sort of thing that is worth establishing openly on my side regardless. So. I don't think EVERY humorous thing Bo Burnham writes has a double meaning. But I do think that a hell of a lot of it does. As far as I'm aware this song remains, to this day, his last ever live show, and he clearly put an extraordinary amount of work into it. If he's specified somewhere that THIS song is one he feels people are reading too much into, which is not something I've seen but might exist somewhere for all I know, I'm honestly inclined not to believe him, but that's not actually the issue here. Truly talented artists often end up putting more meaning into even sillier parts of whatever they're making than they intend to, and Bo is the definition of a truly talented artist. It is not even necessary for him to have intended for two thirds of one of the most important songs he's ever written to have a deeper meaning for it to have subconsciously seeped through anyway. ...But even THAT isn't actually the issue here, and the issue exists whether or not one thinks those parts of the song had deeper meaning OR whether said deeper meaning was consciously or unconsciously included, so let's get to work breaking this down. It'll be slightly out of order because I think it's ideal to address a certain statement you made before continuing. I took nothing you originally said as a personal insult. The person I feel you insulted was the REACTOR, and that is why I bothered insulting you myself. I have seen countless people have takes on Bo's stuff that I believe are stupid, and sometimes that pisses me off on Bo's behalf, but in this case the person on whose behalf I'm angry is neither Bo or myself. If it's childish to be rude in response to someone was rude to a person one respects, then I suppose I'm childish, but even if that's how one interprets it, I don't think it's nearly as childish as being rude to someone for caring deeply about art and finding meaning in it. In fact, the absurdity of being rude to someone for finding meaning and emotion in art is why I didn't write a more detailed reply in the first place. I did not think someone behaving that way was worth spending more time on. But I suppose I've changed my mind - to me, this is now worth one detailed post, which is what I'm delivering. So, with THAT established, I'll expound a bit further. Even if it genuinely IS a complete accident that the Pringles and Chipotle jokes can be read as tying into the central of the song, which, again, I myself doubt, it is still valid to personally interpret them as parts of a cohesive and deeper whole and to be emotionally moved by them. Art is utterly subjective by its fundamental nature, and I think that finding depth and relevance here in a way that makes perfect sense in tandem with the more directly delivered message of this particular piece of art is admirable, whether or not the artist expected anyone to do that. Hell, even if the artist didn't WANT anyone to do that, when one releases art to the public, one is accepting (consciously or otherwise) that the public will have their own interpretations that will not always be identical to the artist's intent. The reason I was angry enough to bother being rude to you is pretty simple: a human being watched and listened to a piece of art and found deep meaning there, and you said that his interpretation and show of emotion was "forced" just because you have a different interpretation. That goes beyond simply disagreeing with someone, which can be done politely, and enters the realm of legitimately insulting them. Delivering that insult is a deeply disrespectful thing to do, and while you have the right to express your opinion in that way, I sure as hell have the right to be disrespectful to you in response. Live by the sword and all that. If you're too thin-skinned to take what you dish out, you may want to consider dishing it out less often. Or not - that's entirely your call. Maybe you're just a glutton for retaliation, I don't know. So, I suppose a decent summary would be this: you insulted someone who found deep meaning in art, and I insulted you in response because the thought of saying nothing in that situation does not align with how I want to live my life. I did not consider your original behavior to be worth exploring in this much detail, but since you responded directly and I have some time to kill, I decided that I'd enjoy responding to clarify my point. I saw no reason to interpret the reactor's feelings as forced, disingenuous, or anything similar. What I did see is the following: someone who makes connections and finds meaning in art being hit hard by something he empathized with, regardless of what the artist's precise intent may have been, which is something I personally consider to be intelligent behavior... and then I saw someone belittle that. Belittling someone for finding meaning in art and feeling emotion about doing so, in my opinion, is a clear mark of not actually being intelligent in a way that matters. Therefore, I see you as less intelligent than the reactor you insulted, and I feel no need to be silent about that. You will almost certainly disagree with how I see this situation and everyone involved in it, and I'm perfectly fine with that, as I never expected anything more from you in the first place. I think that's all I really have to say. I doubt I'll be responding again - this has been an amount of effort that I consider worthwhile, but engaging further is unlikely to result in useful statements on either side. My thoughts are now preserved here as publicly as yours are, and I'm entirely satisfied with that. That'll be all from me. Over and out.
"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself." that tears me up for sure, but the screams at the end broke me every time. he was having a melt down right there, full panic atack. i´m really happy he´s back and really hope he´s better.
Your line, of "We need people in the world like this," makes we want to burst into tears. And, yet, it's so hard to be here....a genius and a wounded healer.....I hope he stays here with us, too! He has so much to teach the rest of us. I just burst in tears all over again, watching this, and I have seen it so many times. He touches a deep place in ALL of us, I think!
He DID retire but he’s back. He released a new special called Inside last year I believe and not only is it amazing, I think he actually won a Grammy for it. He is amazing. So good to have him back.
Pringle can => getting stuck, not fitting in. Overflowing burrito => too much inside to contain, too much on the plate. Both of them make a mess of things. Maybe they were important topics afterall.
He's a TRUE artist....I watched this video a few months ago without knowing him at all and I couldn,t stop crying at the end....and GREAT par of that I think it had to do with the lighting. He's a genius as a cinematographer too...I hope you can watch INSIDE and the Outtakes from Inside and enjoy ALL his talent. You won't regret it at all...Thanks for the reaction!.
Yes!! I love how he says the "You just want me to shut up and entertain you" bit and then goes back to the funny part of the song while the lighting changes so he's backlit and we can't see the real him, just a shadow. So smart!
Every time I watch this, I'm amazed at how many people are just laughing at the end. His pain seems so apparent to me, and I cry every time I see it. The idea of laughing at someone who feels like that just seems cruel. The fact that he was able to perform at all at this point is just astonishing. He's a hell of a performer.
"We need people like this.. desperately" 100% agreed. Bo is one of the good ones. But those kind of people see everything, and the feeling of powerlessness can be overwhelming. Thank you for this reaction. This was also a second video I saw from him, and I started crying on the exact same spot. This shit is POWERFUL.
Bo makes me feel not alone. I have watched so many reactions to this song and the way you describe what Bo is really talking about is the best I've heard. It is exactly how I feel.
My suggestion is to keep watching this song and All Eyes On Me over and over again it helps to numb the anxiety and empathy it can induce. Then when you feel these feelings in your everyday life it can help cope.
Your moments of silence at the end were heavy. I did the same thing but was SOBBING like a baby. The emotion he feeds through this song is insane. Love Bo for his silly genius ways and his openness. 💚 First reaction of yours I seen. Looking forward to checking more out.
I love when people REALLY get it with this song thank you for the great and genuine reaction. Can’t wait to see you do more Bo ! You’re gonna love it, he always has an underlying message with the comedy, he’s is one of a kind.
I am so happy you discovered Bo, "Our modern day prophet denouncing the hypocrisy of these times. We watched him mature and leave and come out the other side. He is a beautiful man. You will need to react to his entire "inside" special. He shot it during the shutdown. It is dark, scary, and shockingly beautiful.
Awesome breakdown man, you got a new subscriber out of it. Bo’s a special kind of artist and there’s no bad way to go about jumping down his Rabbit hole. A couple other commenters recommended “All Eyes on Me” and I gotta agree with them. That song is in many ways a thematic continuation of this one and he won a fuckin grammy for it. Past that…shit the list could go on for a while lol. Welcome to the Internet Left Brain, Right Brain Comedy Pandering From Gods Perspective Repeat stuff Rant. (Just “rant.”) And about 30 more haha. Keep ‘em coming! Cheers
This is always a song I listen to if I have a shit day. It is a perfect definition of a person who just takes the blows and tries to go about the day pretending they haven't. This song is so beautifully vulnerable. I'm so happy he took time to breath and start the process of healing.
“He’s talking about Pringle’s and burritos and I’m feeling emotional” Me - reaching for Kleenex and a farking seatbelt, like buddy you don’t know what you’re in for
Some laugh till the end… some laugh until it gets deep… but you’re the first that I’ve seen to realize the darkness before it hits deep and I have to mad respect that. He gets better and deeper with Inside
I have to tell you I have watched many many reactions to this song and you are one of the only reactors who got it before Bo gave it to you and then it hit your feels for reals. Bravo for being a man who is comfortable expressing his emotions. You have done your work obviously. Gives me hope that there are good men out there… much love and new sub.
Yeah. To my understanding, after this exact performance, he had something of a breakdown. Cut to five years later, for the the end of that story, and check out "All eyes on me", from "Inside"; Basically, his Covid/Quarantine special, written, filmed, performed, and produced by him, in his guesthouse.
Bo is above geniusness. From comedy, to verses, to voice, to scenography, mixing and lighting, to messages, to the feelings transmitted. The whole package at his age is at another level.. 💯🐐
Great reaction to Bo's video! It's probably the best one yet! Thank you for keeping it real. A video to watch next could be "Art is Dead". I also agree with most of the commentators, "All Eyes on Me" is a really good one to watch especially after this video but then watch the entire Inside special on Netflix and react to each song. The special in its entirety is the best way to watch it as opposed to one song at a time. It's a masterpiece of depression over time. I've subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work.
2:30 live auto tune is actually not that easy to use because you still have to hold the note in between a certain range or it jumps from one note to the next all the time. holding a note with autotune for a few seconds means that you held that note even without it. the only difference is that yours doesn't have to be 100% on pitch and it can't have a strong vibrato because that would make the note jumpy too. what many people confuse and call autotune is actually tuning in the post processing that is done by hand with some helping algorithm that do the hard work in the background, but the music producer/magician still has to go through all the notes and set the note he wants and correct errors or sound glitches that can appear when you shift around or smooth the sound wave.
This is the most genuine reaction I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I absolutely love how you poured out your heart here and weren’t afraid to show it. Thank you for sharing this. Hard to put into words how great this is.
Very genuine reaction. Just found your channel and subbed. Looking forward to watching you react to more bo Burnham in the future. Dont worry, your not alone... bo has a way of pulling real emotions out of real people.
i always feel that the burrito analogy represents his life in the sense that he probably wouldnt have done "half the shit" he did with his career if knew what it would do to him and how it would make him feel. and the stresses that come with being a performer
When you watch this again (bc of course you will lol) pay attention to the lighting as well. There are levels and meaning to that as well which show his genius as well. The light shining behind him hiding his face during performing showing (I’m just a performer) and the light on his face and everything else blacked out when he is doing his monologue. I know there are extra levels and I read someone’s comment before about it that really dove into it. If anyone has more please share. Great reaction, I loved it
I've read that the passive aggressive tone of "I hope you're happy" was kind of unique to one performance when recording the special, and the editor chose that one over the more genuine delivery. Bravo for that, because the double and opposing meaning of that line really is brilliant and fits perfectly with the message of the song...I want to make you happy but I'm giving up part of myself to do it.
There's so much Bo you should watch. F.ex. - All eyes on me - Comedy - Art is dead - That funny feeling - Country song - Repeat Stuff - Welcome to the Internet Literally anything by him is amazing
You need to watch his Netflix special "INSIDE" - it's amazing. Watch it all the way through and react as you go if you want, but watch it all in context.
Let's give the lighting designer some love too. It was a phenomenally basic design that did everything it needed to do. I'm a lighting designer by trade. When I was going to school for design, my set design instructor said, "We set designers have a god complex. We get to create the world the actors live in." I raised my hand and said, "Yeah but we lighting designers get to tell them how they feel about it." I think this is a perfect example of that. The lighting designer brings the ambiance and notice when the crowd response. It always corresponds to the lighting.
add it to the genius of Bo... He did all the lighting and effects for his show. He talks about it in interviews and how he has to time everything out even the spoken parts.
Now that you've seen this, you should watch this interview with him. He talks a lot about this song. It's also about his film Eighth Grade that he wrote and directed, which was really good and actually ties in with the themes of Make Happy and Inside. (You don't have to have seen the movie to appreciate the interview. I think most of the audience hadn't seen it yet at that point either.) It would actually be super interesting to hear you react to this interview, if that's something you'd be into. I bet you would get a lot of insight to who Bo is as a person and I'd be really interested to hear your take on his thoughts. ✌️ ruclips.net/video/eOABIabgRCg/видео.html
To sum up what happened to his career after this, he decided to stop performing on stage because of panick attakcs he had on stage. That's preaty much the feeling he is trying to convey with this song by the way. However, he didn't stop creating. He directed a movie called Eighth Grade which is about middle school, and played in a few movies like Promising Young Woman. Then, almost out of nowhere, at the begining of june 2021, about five or six years after he quit comedy on stage, a new special/ movie-ish product came out on Netflix. In it, he explains what I explained above, and also says that in january of 2020 he felt in a good enough mental state to start performing on stage again. And as everybody knows, COVID happened. So that's when he started to make the special which is called Inside. In this, we see his mental health decline again... Inside is both a special because of its construction, but at the same time, it has something which feels like an actual narrative structure. Many people, including me, consider it as a movie, even though that's not how it is presented. Inside is one of the greatest peace of media to be made in the last few years, you should give it a look.
I've seen almost every reaction to this performance I can find and urs is by far my favorite, u were probably the most appreciative of his message....bravo sir
This is the most appropriate reaction I've ever seen to this song. I've never seen your channel before but your insight waaaaay early on made me stay to watch your entire reaction. Subscribed and I will check out your podcast. It sounds informative. Looking forward to it.
Welcome to Bo. You're not finished with the Rant. After this ends Bo walks backstage where he sings a follow up song, and the true finale to "Make Happy" titled "Are You Happy?" please look it up.
I know this is late to the party, but I've watched a lot of people do exactly what you said: lots of reactors acting. I think you're the first person I've ever seen even show tears. Love the breakdown, love the reaction.
Bo did retire after this, for all the reasons he described in this song and more. He came back with a special in 2020... maybe 2021, called Inside which that full special is fantastic, and there is a sequel to this song in that Special called "All Eyes on Me" so I really would suggest you check out that song next. Also since you questioned how old he is, he turned 30 in 2020, so he is either 31 or 32.
If you're crying over this... Watch his pandemic special. That whole special is heart-wrenching. He turned 30 during the lockdowns and he really portrays so much of the pain involved.
Bo is incredible, I would love for you to follow with Are You Happy because it immediately follows this in the special and is like the second part. Subscribed to see more of your journey with Bo
That was a young man calling out for help...that was his truth coming out..he isn't happy..but he was reying to make everyone else happy..I know how you feel, Nick..I feel the same way..very talented young man..but so sad..thank you Nick💖
i get chills at the beginning knowing whats about to happen. also it might just be this music... something about it lol. you could say anything over this type of music and it feels deep
Great video! Next should be “all eyes on me” from the inside special. It explains why he retired and makes the video you just watched even more significant.
This was during the time Bo was experiencing anxiety attacks on stage. Just before he retired for five years. I have them. yes i do get them every now and again, and i still do my job even when i have them,(though it really isnt pleasant)i couldn't imagine having one in front of a few million people, and doing it flawlessly. Hope everyone is taking care
highly recommend reacting to All Eyes On Me after this! its kind of a continuation in my opinion. please go down the Bo rabbit hole. it's an incredible ride.
He left live comedy for five years right after this special but he worked on his panic attacks and was ready to come back in Jan 2020. But then Covid. So he did a MASSIVE, 2 part special that covers his 30th birthday. It's called "inside" with the 2nd part being called Inside Outtakes and it's another Netflix Special and as great as he is and as amazing as every special he's done has been nothing compares to Inside. It encapsulated the entire existential dread of the Covid experience in an indescribable experience. It is simply seminal and profound and enlightening and a magnum opus for comedy but especially musical comedy.
Deeper meaning in the first two choruses - when you think about the pringle and burrito issues - one is about not being able to fit in and the other is all about taking on too much till you fall apart.....bless you Bo, i feel you xx
I joined your channel for HMack reactions, but stay because you are a real one bro. Not many would be that vulnerable in front of the world, and I commend you for that sir. Don't ever deviate from what I saw just now, and you will climb bro. Much love SD from a kindred spirit! 👊
‘Inside’ is a full experience. I don’t recommend you doing reactions of the songs on that special. It’s something that needs to be watched from beginning to the end. It would be cool if you watched it and then did your breakdown of each song after
...you need to watch Inside. Also, just like all of his performances, it is real. But...he controls everything (except the anxiety attacks). That performance was at the end of a tour...he did a form of that rant at each show. Inside and the Inside outtakes are him coming back after 5 years. His other shows are all totally worthy...enjoy your Bo rabbit hole deep dive.
Bo is BACK!!! Watch his Inside special!!!its recient...after he came out if retirement..which yes,he went on after this special.he actually had a nervous breakdown ON stage towards the end of this...live,it was very REAL,not a joke.look into his story. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this man!!! Bo is a genius. Welcome to the Internet is a great place to start if you want a taste of his new special material from Inside. Or White Woman's Instagram is another classic from Inside.good luck on your Bo Burnham journey!!😃glad you FINALLY discovered him!!✌out
He stopped doing stand-up comedy for a while, but he didn't stop working. He directed a movie (an excellent one, Eighth grade), acted in one (Promising Young Woman) and directed some other people's comedy specials (e.g. 8 by Jerrod Carmichael, and Tambourine by Chris Rock. If you watch that last one, I would recommend watching Bo's version, not the second version that Chris cut himself afterwards).
Thank you for keeping it real, i keep watching these reaction videos on this song and yeah. Bo is real. if nobody mentioned it yet, he had an anxiety attack and cried in his dressing room right after this recording, took a hiatus for 5 years after that show, after that he improved his mental health and came back, right when covid started. Watch the netflix special "Inside"
He only stopped performing live for about 5 years. During that time he directed performances for a couple other big comedians, and made a movie called "8th Grade." In 2020, he was feeling ready to perform live again, but then Covid hit. So he made the special "Inside" in his back yard guest house instead, with lighting, camera work, set design and music mixing all by himself.
That exact moment that hit you, gets me EVERY time I watch this. I can use this video as a barometer of my mental health with how intense I react to this now. Good reaction man. 💜🇦🇺 Also might’ve missed it, but looked at channel and haven't seen any more Bo, you should do "All eyes in me" or anything from "Inside" his release from 2020
I’ve seen this bit 100 a times. I always love watching reactors laughing half way through and me knowing they are emotionally about to get kicked in the nuts. Love Bo. Nice reaction Sir.
YES!! This is my favorite song to watch reactions to! I love seeing them "get it"
It's right about 14:00 in when you see the emotions really hit him and oof, gets me too.
you, my good sir is a sadist
100% same.
And I still get chills when he does that scream
"I guess I'll just shut up and do my job, so here I go" This line breaks me every time, feeling that the audience is collectively shouting "Dance monkey, dance" Bos pain is so palpable and raw.
I always wondered if I was the only one that wanted to slap all those people that were laughing and cheering after that line.
@@msalasan Im not sure how else to express your support for him in that moment. Who says theyre cheering for what you assumed theyre cheering for?
@@msalasan I don't think its fair to blame the audience here for not understanding. He did an amazing job masking his crisis here especially when performing to an audience who are just trying to have a good time while trying to forget their own troubles. It is genuinely difficult to understand how someone else is feeling on a personal level. It is exponentially harder when the artist is professionally masking their emotions at a comedy show and trying to make others happy who probably need it.
"attempts to give you what he can't give himself"
"Thank you, good night, I hope you're happy"
.... that specific combination of lines hits me every damn time.
But yes, 1000% keep going, you absolutely must hear "Welcome to the Internet". He has a lot of amazing songs, that's (in my opinion) his magnum opus.
Followed by the mic drop... amazing.
And the irony is it is a double. He does hope they are happy, and it is a guilt dig.
I hope you're happy (with what you did to me)
@@egork92 I think it's actually "because I'm sure not"
"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself."
That line tears me up inside every damn time I hear it. Every. Single.
It tears me up irl too, I literally sit here and roll a tear
- male, 28 yo, thought he knows real struggle.
It disturbs me every time I watch this when the crowd starts cheering again when he goes back into it after that part.
Acted and I believed helped with production of Promising Young Woman, and wrote Eighth Grade, both absolutely incredible.
wrote AND directed 8th grade
This may the best reaction video I’ve seen to this performance. It’s clear you are a truly empathetic person and felt the depth of what Bo was feeling and conveying with the song. Thank you for this - it’s refreshing to see someone who’s willing to let themselves be seen as they are.
Then I think you may bу interested in seeing a new reaction by David Heretic
He wouldn't have got the fame if he knew it wouldn't fit. He always covers deep subjects in a humorous way. He has so many masterpieces, "Welcome To The Internet" is one of his best.
Appreciate you 🙏 saucy. Bo recently came back with his "Inside" special. All filmed and produced by Bo, from his home. His older material is just as fire 🔥. Check it out! Let's take this adventure! I'm here for it. Again, thank sir
SaucyDad: "this is some real stuff, I'm getting all emotional"
Me: "you haven't even got to the real stuff yet. You don't know the half of it right now"
SaucyDad: gets to the real stuff, speechless.
It has many of his insights/poems from what. in it.
I watch an unhealthy number of Bo reactions, and this is one that still hurts me lol
I always cry at the "What he cannot give himself" line. So sad and so powerful.
Bo was having a panic attack during this performance, when he finished he went back stage and cried for 2 hours,Bo is a comedic genius xx Thanks nick xx
Where did you learn this?
@@ballzorusrex3701 I watched an interview with bo burnham
This is correct, he mentions it in the Good Ones podcast and it’s also mentioned artistically in Inside. He was having panic attacks throughout the entire Make Happy tour
either he is an incredible actor, or you could really tell. because that final HAH! felt entirely too real
@@Fraxxxi that final ‘HAH’ _was_ real.
Too forced.
@@benboom910 Appreciated.
@@benboom910 It's cute that you think people who are smarter than you must be faking something.
"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself."
that tears me up for sure, but the screams at the end broke me every time. he was having a melt down right there, full panic atack. i´m really happy he´s back and really hope he´s better.
That's a great point. Thanks for pointing that out
He's a TRUE artist....I watched this video a few months ago without knowing him at all and I couldn,t stop crying at the end....and GREAT par of that I think it had to do with the lighting.
"We need people like this.. desperately"
100% agreed.
I can't watch this without tears. What an immense, honest soul. There's not a lot to say beyond what he said.
Just awe...
Your moments of silence at the end were heavy. I did the same thing but was SOBBING like a baby. The emotion he feeds through this song is insane. Love Bo for his silly genius ways and his openness. 💚 First reaction of yours I seen. Looking forward to checking more out.
The part of this that tore me up was the line .... A part of me needs you. I know what it's like to NEED something that's so bad for you .it hurts.
I love when people REALLY get it with this song thank you for the great and genuine reaction. Can’t wait to see you do more Bo ! You’re gonna love it, he always has an underlying message with the comedy, he’s is one of a kind.
Hey man I’ve watched this song like a thousand times and I tear up every single time. You’re not alone of this one
Also you should watch the inside special. It’s the special right after this one when he comes out of retirement (in a way).

This is always a song I listen to if I have a shit day. It is a perfect definition of a person who just takes the blows and tries to go about the day pretending they haven't. This song is so beautifully vulnerable. I'm so happy he took time to breath and start the process of healing.

Need to start a petition that every time someone reacts to Can't handle this should immediately follow up with Are you happy
And then finish it off with All Eyes on Me
Bo is above geniusness. From comedy, to verses, to voice, to scenography, mixing and lighting, to messages, to the feelings transmitted. The whole package at his age is at another level.. 💯🐐
I am so happy you feel the way I feel. It gets me every time.
YES i completely agree with Art is Dead. Especially the Green Room verson.
I'm SO happy you're reacting to Bo! He is incredible
I can not wait to watch every single reaction you do of his!
Thank you! I heard something similar elsewhere, but I have no expertise in the matter, and it's nice to get good explanations.
F.ex.

"Welcome to the Internet" is sheer brilliance!
We get to create the world the actors live in."
I raised my hand and said, "Yeah but we lighting designers get to tell them how they feel about it."
I think this is a perfect example of that. The lighting designer brings the ambiance and notice when the crowd response. It always corresponds to the lighting.
add it to the genius of Bo... He did all the lighting and effects for his show. He talks about it in interviews and how he has to time everything out even the spoken parts.
The chipotle metaphor is meant to show how Bo wasn't aware of all the issues that come with fame. Same with telling Pringles to listen to the people.
I love that there’s even a wind machine!
YES!! Bo Burnham is a treasure.. I just recently discovered him myself and it's been amazing!!
I definitely recommend you watch All Eyes On Me, next. it's kind of a companion piece to this, 5 years later

Highly recommend all of his stuff. His very early work was more shock value stuff but still worth a watch.
He goes over some of his issues about this in his recent special. The song All Eyes On Me. But, yeah watch all of Inside.
Brilliant! And just like that you sent me down another rabbit hole.
I appreciated your honest reactions. That was intense.
It’s ok dude - this video hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I saw it too.
It was good to revisit this through your eyes. Sometimes it is healing to sit in silence with a kindred spirit.
That was a young man calling out for help...that was his truth coming out..he isn't happy..but he was reying to make everyone else happy..I know how you feel, Nick..I feel the same way..very talented young man..but so sad..thank you Nick💖
Bo is a gem we should all keep in the attic if you know what I mean.. 🤟🏼
Loved the video bro.
I love you.
i get chills at the beginning knowing whats about to happen. also it might just be this music... something about it lol. you could say anything over this type of music and it feels deep
Makes me cry, every time.
highly recommend reacting to All Eyes On Me after this! its kind of a continuation in my opinion. please go down the Bo rabbit hole. it's an incredible ride.
That part about his metal health always gets me. I am crying 😭 rn....
Have you checked out the Inside special he did when he came out of retirement. It’s a MUST see.
Your empathy is why I just subscribed. Beautiful reaction
Thank you for being so passionate about this. I don’t feel so alone .
i didn’t know you before this video but your emotions were just the same as mine and i love that you were so open about it. Keep doing your thing 🖤✨
Emotion was what he was ultimately going for
That exact moment that hit you, gets me EVERY time I watch this. I can use this video as a barometer of my mental health with how intense I react to this now. Good reaction man. 💜🇦🇺
Also might’ve missed it, but looked at channel and haven't seen any more Bo, you should do "All eyes in me" or anything from "Inside" his release from 2020
Dude when I watch this my screen looks like a hurricane. My leg is kicking a million miles a minute
