    So interesting to hear Dr Banerji talking about the relationship of Buddhist philosophy and Upanishads. And the movement from mythic to mental rational modes in that period. We need more of this!!! Thank you.

      Was thinking about religions today - actually how some at least began with a core of beauty, of love.
      Now it's a panorama: slivers of God(s) in different places with too many people insisting their shard needs to go on top.
      Maybe it could be a kaleidoscope instead.

    has anybody had an oneiric experience with this one? about 28 mins in, when i'm telling the story of the parable of the dogs and i say the words of the dog, "teach me o master," it seems as if a dog barks something that could be the dog-equivalent of "teach me o master." it can be explained no doubt in material terms, but if you hear it, i'll be interested if you felt it was an evocative simulation of a dog's bark.

    The Upanishads were composed by Rishis who were householders. There were no Yathi contribution to these compositions. The greatest misconception is that the Vedas and the Upanishads were for the commonman. Upanishads were always meet for the miniscule number of people who are seekers and have the intellect for it. This is true for the present times as well.

    • @robothug6688
      @robothug6688 2 года назад +1

      About having intellect that can be a paradoxical statement. You could be one that has superior intellect that would reject all religious beliefs. My perception of what they would look for is one that has balance of intellect and creativity, as from what i have seen the most intelligent had a balance between both hemispheres of the brain. As we see for example de vinci that was both a scientist and a artist

    • @robothug6688

      Folks here have probably heard of this already, but
      there's a channeled text, formatted as Q & A, entitled 'The Law of One', AKA the 'Ra material'. Tho a tad jaded re: channelers, new age 'must reads', etc., I find both Light and gravitas in the bits I've read. Your post reminded me of its beginning...
      'Ra' identifies as a collective, an entity, actually, comprised of many thousands of advanced (highly vibrational) souls. The first question asked if they'd ever contacted Earth before. They replied that they'd visited during the time of the Pharaohs.
      They described, albeit briefly, how they brought wisdom/ teaching to the sages at court, but that the powers at the time thought all such knowledge was to remain in the hands/minds of the elite.
      Since this was the antithesis of their core message - a complex, but admirable, text, imo - Ra decided to withdraw from the Earth plane, at least in the physical form.
      Two compelling footnotes, fwiw
      :
      1) A similar collective visited the Americas at the same time - with nearly identical outcome.
      2) Ra calmly told how the pyramids in both locations were built, implying it was solely via intention/telepathy.

    I noticed that no mention was made in this conversation to the essential (to us all) aspect of gender relations during the Vedic times. Dr. Shruti Vip argues that as time went on the Vedic culture became increasingly misogynist (eg. Laws of Manu), and employed absolutely horrifying levels of violence to control (and terrify) women. The presentation here is all about the 'progress' of intellectual thought from the Rig Veda to the Upanishads, but what was happening in the culture, particularly between men and women, and between the 'castes'?

    • @anitkm08
      @anitkm08 4 года назад

      This particular discussion is centered around the Upanishads which are dated roughly between 1000 BCE to 500 BCE. Manu-samhita is a product of much later date around 200 -300 CE, hence in the discussion of Upanishads as a text and the society of that time, Manu-samhita is irrelevant. Some examples of gender relation can be found in Upanishads, for example in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, there are extensive conversations between the sage Yajnavalka and his wife Maitreyi on matters of spirituality and philosophy, which may point to the fact that such philosophical discourse was not a monopoly of men at that time. On the topic of castes, Vedas and Upnanishads do mention about 'Varna' system based on abilities of men, however birth-based rigid 'Varna' system seems to be a product of much later time (200-500 CE ) which was further sub-divided between "Jatis' as the category of labours were further solidified based on birth and ancestral profession.

      @@anitkm08 Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query; I really appreciate the information you have shared with me. I am still trying to sort out all of this in my head, and am particularly interested in learning about when patriarchal thinking and practices really came to the fore. From what I have learned so far, it seems that from the beginning of Vedic times onward there was a slow and steady process of taking away women's participation in ceremonies, and then basic freedoms (to visit her family, etc).
      I like the point you include about the conversation between the sage and his wife. These points about gender are what I was hoping to hear more about in this discussion.

    • @anitkm08
      @anitkm08 4 года назад

      @@devidaughter7782 You are welcome. The history of gradual reduction of rights of women is quite complex and does not always follow a linear path, instead has many ups and downs in the process depending on which part of India one belongs to. I can suggest books written in English by some authors like Altekar, Kumbhare, on this subject which deals with the chronological history. Though some of the best works on this subject were done in Indian languages, e.g. Sukumari Bhattacharya's seminal book in Bengali, but I am not aware of any decent translation in English of this book.

    • @devidaughter7782
      @devidaughter7782 4 года назад

      @@anitkm08 yes, I am realizing that none of this is as simple or black and white as I initially perceive it to be. When I heard about the Aryans celebrating the capture of women (and cattle) from their raids, as well as sacrificing horses, I was appalled. How could this be the same people who produced the 'language of the gods'? Learning of their violent ways has made it very hard for me to feel respect toward them and the literature they left behind.
      Yet I know that the same pattern exists in the stories that I grew up with, from the Old Testament. The ancient Israelites also believed in a god who sanctioned the use of violence to dominate the goddess-worshipping societies around them. Yet this Hebrew society also created great religious literature. So in many ways it is the same.
      Thank you for hearing me and for participating with me in this (public) conversation. I believe its important to be honest about the 'shadow side' of our cherished religious traditions, whatever they might be, and that its possible to be respectful and critical at the same time.

    • @anitkm08
      @anitkm08 4 года назад

      @@devidaughter7782 It is always a pleasure to engage in a civilized conversation. While appreciating the great intellectual and spiritual works of our ancestors, we must keep in mind the following points - 1. The world of Vedas and Testaments are 3000-4000 years old where the human society was essentially divided into tribes and hence fierce tribalism was witnessed in every part. 2. Just because the Vedas are works of high intellect, we can not expect that all individuals at that time possessed that same high intellect and spirituality. Just like today's society, during those times also there were intellectual class which were often separated from the warriors and traders and common masses. Therefore just like the great and noble works of present-day philosophers, writers, scientists do not necessarily negate the fact that there is tremendous violence in today's world, the same is applicable for our ancestors as well. Therefore the literature should be judged based on the high level of sophistication that was achieved in those primitive society which should make us appreciate more deeply the intellectual class of that era. At least that's the way I view these literature.

    is it solid in your mind or etherial ??do you reckon you existed in that dimension forever,or was it something from the past,e.g a grand guilt that stuck you to that dimension of no matter but sensing it as a real unwanted place you were forever???and of course your thought struggles to get out because it doesnt believe in cause in there every wrong thought or neologism becomes logical and unavoidable??and what the hell is this darkness you re stuck into ,just hyberbolic thought of fear??or may be the infinite universe somewhere in the void??not imagining hell as darkness of course a priori,take it 2019 scientifically;)
