Great video! My grandma owned Stefan’s house when the movie was filmed. She passed in 2008, but loved telling stories about meeting the actors and crew and even got to be an extra. She was one of the ladies hanging up laundry in the background during the scene where Stefan’s brother just got laid off from the steel mill. Miss you Bubba.

This film is criminally under-rated. It's so gritty and real. You actually feel like you're in Johnstown, PA. A fantastic movie and probably one of Tom Cruise's best performances - seriously. He WAS Stefan Djordjevic and played that character so well. A hidden gem from the best decade - the 80s!

Wasn't there when the movie was filmed. I am from Eastern PA. I go out to Thunder In The Valley every year, only missed (3) years since it started. Unfortunately no more Thunder In The Valley. We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Theater Drive many times. I knew this movie was fimed in the Johnstown area. We got a copy of the movie from the JA library and showed it in the lobby of the hotel one rainy rally night. The lobby was packed. I laid out a bunch of waypoints for different locations from the movie and did a tour of them.
Johnstown and the people are fantastic. Never felt more welcome then at this rally.

WTF? I grew up there too, but what is with all the hate? It was poor, but the people were great. I remember that Johnstown had the highest unemployment rate in the US in the early 80's, yet had one of the lowest crime rates. Like Stefen wanted to do, I got out on a scholarship, and went to Penn State main campus and majored in engineering. Johnstown made people tough and hard working. Sounds like you are bitter and didn't learn anything from your time there.

    • @scout3058

@JohnAnderson-sm8jl You clearly haven't payed attention to the epidemics of drugs, crime, and gangs in Johnstown of late, have ya?
Your fond memories and assumptive asshole attitude don't change the murders, overdoses, home invasions, car thefts, assaults, rapes, arsons, suicides, and robberies that are the norm now.
Your nostalgia doesn't undue the influx of section 8 ghetto trash that now live in Westmont and Richland.
Your memories don't undue a serior citizen veteran whos home was invaded. They tied him to a chair, dumped gasoline on him, and set him on fire. He died a horrible death. My buddies 18 year old neice was murdered, shot in the head, in her car. A guy I knew was murdered in his living room, shot in the back of his head twice. My little brother was a firefighter for the city for years...until he had to start wearing body armor on the job due to people shooting at the fire trucks while they tried to put out house fires.
You're an ignorant, arrogant, ultra judgemental piece of crap. You don't know shit outside of your 30 year old memories, and you have the nreve to judge me *after you left and never went back.*

Nice video this film is all you can see of the old school and the mill the only one you got wrong is he does not cross the Minersville Bridge he crosses the old bridge in Conemaugh which got torn down and remade about 8 years ago another landmark only the film has.

The captions and video are NOT exact! In fact Stefan is walking across the East Conemaugh to Franklin bridge which I did a thousand times while the caption says the Minersville Bridge which I walked that hundreds of times. That modern video is on Minersville NOT East Conemaugh which was damaged in the 77 Flood and has since been redesigned and rebuilt. I was a part of the making of this movie and so much of me is in it. They should have paid me a royalty! When I watch it in 2021 I just get jaw dropped at what was and now is in Johnstown. Goodbye Coal and Iron, Grit and Sweat, Values and The Greatest Americans,

The bridge Tom Cruise walks across is the 4th Avenue Bridge…he is walking toward the Minersville PNA Lodge on the NE side of the bridge. This is verified because you can see the Resurrection Catholic Church in the background on the SW side he is walking from. This is the same bridge that we used to cross to drive up to Brownstown. So, the videographer got it right the first time, though I don't know if its actually called the Minersville Bridge (I don't think it is).

the bridge that stef is walking across in that scene isn't the minerville bridge, it's actually the main street/michael strank bridge...but i believe the minersville bridge appears later in the movie

@@BeenThereFilmedThat2020 You were correct the first time. This is verified because you can see the Resurrection Catholic Church in the background, on the SW side he is walking from. The Minersville Bridge is incorrect. That is the East Conemaugh Bridge PA 271. I know the churches in both backgrounds very well. The bridge Tom Cruise stood on was torn down and replaced.

This was Tom Cruise's best acting movie. So many great parts...true as well. In this time (80's-90's) the high school coach was almost like "God". They got to determine who got looked at and who didnt. Thank god for travel ball (Sometimes not as good) but the high school coach cant black ball as many players as they could. Small town america.

Live 2 blocks from Coach Nickersons house. Still stands to this day. My Dad said the day they came to town they went up to the owners and offered them 40 grand to trash the place (which back in those days was a ton of money!) They eagerly accepted obviously haha
