Man, that was an amazing speech. And I'm Black and wasn't offended by the language in the context it was said. BTW, he had a Black QB in 1982. They didn't know about the magic in the Rifleman arm!
I remember the first time I saw this movie when I was 11 years old, and I was the ball boy for our HS football team. We had made the playoffs for the first time in years, and we watched it on a charter bus on the way to the game. It was so much fun for me because the game was on the complete opposite side of the state so we had to leave early and I got to miss the entire day of school. We ended up losing that game, and I got sick that night with bronchitis, but the next day Shaun Alexander ran for 291 yards against LSU. The Tide doesn’t lose in Baton Rouge!!!!!
I was an assistant coach for our local high school football team this year! Our head coach knew how to give a speech just like this! And we beat our big rival for a second year in a row! This movie and Remember The Titans should be required viewing for high school football players!
@@mba2ceo I never had to. I don't speak like that. Then again this movie was filmed in 1985 if correct and I believe he's just acting and not really a football coach using the N word in real life. Just a movie chief.
@@lbcoach2295 The Central Michigan Basketball coach got fired for making a very similar comment to his team. He wanted to tell his players (I'm paraphrasing) to be tough, play tough and bring out their "inner n-words". He meant it to be inspiring but one huge problem: He was White. And beyond that- it was just stupid to do. Just wrong.
@Mike Wynne ok. It's movie. I didn't mean to speak about using racist language. Relax. I just liked the way the ACTOR in the MOVIE delivered the speech. He was describing how the rich kids on the team they were playing thought of them. Just a movie, chief.
Roles as football 🏈 coaches sure seem to suit Craig T Nelson well; here and on Coach, of course. Seeing this scene again reminds me of the opening of the one Coach episode “The Loss Weekend” where Hayden(his character, head coach Hayden Fox of Minnesota state screaming Eagles) is giving a pregame pep talk to his players, just before they go out on the field.
Lol yeah it sucks that peeps aren’t tossing the “N” word around like it’s nothing. GTFOH Who are the three people who liked that reply, I’m reporting it to your employers!!!?
I went to school with the Rifleman. He was a great guy and did’t let this fame go to his head.

Rifleman played by Walter Briggs, QB for Montclair State College (now University), in my hometown of Montclair, NJ. :)
Loved this movie I was in peewee when I first saw this
Extremely powerful pregame speech. Gives me chills when I see this clip.
I have aways wanted a football autographed by Craig T Nelson that is signed, “See this? This is a football.”
Lol.
That’d be smooth
Every blue collar small town kid can relate to this movie..It wasn't just a movie it was real life..
Nickerson before the game: “We’re gonna win together!”
Nickerson after the game: “Come on, Salvucci! Let’s have a good cry!” 😂
6-2 stack monster 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
'Ready....Break!' ❤

Tom Cruise, the only cornerback to ever wear one of those horseshoe collars.
There wasn't much call for a 5'10" white cornerback in the NFL. But, he could do the job in college! The line of the movie!
@@Peraino 5'10? Don't flatter yourself Tom cruise. That's 3 inches too much.
🤣🤣🤣@@ericmacisaac
It was the 80s that was the style

Love the “that’s what we are together “ part, awesome speech, great actor. Always come back to this clip.

Reminds me in the mid 80 s I had a feirly coach like Craig Thompson
How is the football game not on RUclips? Amazes me to this day!
It's because they lost in the final seconds.
I’d run through a wall for this guy
Hands down the most inspirational pre game speech I've ever seen.
I had a coach like this in high school...hence the reason I was All State First team, twice.
Same here. This was a great movie. I've been through Johnstown a few times and this movie captured the grit of the town to a T
Miss those days!
I love 80s films, it was more interesting to see.
I'm coaching football at the high school and college level for 24 yrs. Never not ever have a came up with such a genius speech.

Craig just made for football coach rules.
